EARLY SCIENCE WITH THE KOREAN VLBI NETWORK: EVALUATION OF SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

<P>We report the very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observing performance of the Korean VLBI Network (KVN). The KVN is the first millimeter-dedicated VLBI network in East Asia. The KVN consists of three 21 m radio telescopes with baseline lengths in a range of 305-476 km. The quasi-optical system equipped on the antennas allows simultaneous observations at 22, 43, 86, and 129 GHz. The first fringes of the KVN were obtained at 22 GHz on 2010 June 8. Test observations at 22 and 43 GHz on 2010 September 30 and 2011 April 4 confirmed that the full cycle of VLBI observations works according to specification: scheduling, antenna control system, data recording, correlation, post-correlation data processing, astrometry, geodesy, and imaging analysis. We found that decorrelation due to instability in the hardware at times up to 600 s is negligible. The atmosphere fluctuations at KVN baseline are partly coherent, which allows us to extend integration time under good winter weather conditions up to 600 s without significant loss of coherence. The post-fit residuals at KVN baselines do not exhibit systematic patterns, and the weighted rms of the residuals is 14.8 ps. The KVN is ready to image compact radio sources both in snapshot and full-track modes with residual noise in calibrated phases of less than 2 deg at 22 and 43 GHz and with dynamic ranges of ~300 for snapshot mode and ~1000 for full-track mode. With simultaneous multi-frequency observations, the KVN can be used to make parsec-scale spectral index maps of compact radio sources.</P>
Formation of liposome by microfluidic flow focusing and its application in gene delivery

We report the formation of liposomes in a simple procedure using a microfluidic hydrodynamic flow focusing method for the application in gene delivery. We fabricated microfluidic device using soft lithography and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) molding technique. Lipid-containing stream was surrounded by aqueous stream and liposomes were formed at the lipid-water interface. Size distribution of liposomes and zeta potential of liposome dispersion were investigated under various flow rate ratio (FRR) and processing temperature. Size distributions of liposomes were measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS), and zeta potential was measured to quantify the colloidal stability. Prepared liposomes were used as a vehicle for gene delivery, and the successful expression of delivered gene was observed by fluorescent microscope.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>In order to fabricate polymer field‐effect transistors (PFETs) with high electrical stability under bias‐stress, it is crucial to minimize the density of charge trapping sites caused by the disordered regions. Here we report PFETs with excellent electrical stability comparable to that of single‐crystalline organic semiconductors by specifically controlling the molecular weight (MW) of the donor‐acceptor type copolymer semiconductors, poly (didodecylquaterthiophene‐<I>alt</I>‐didodecylbithiazole). We found that MW‐induced thermally structural transition from liquid‐crystalline to semi‐crystalline phases strongly affects the device performance (charge‐carrier mobility and electrical bias‐stability) as well as the nanostructures such as the molecular ordering and the morphological feature. In particular, for the polymer with a MW of 22 kDa, the transfer curves varied little (Δ<I>V</I><SUB>th</SUB> = 3∼4 V) during a period of prolonged bias stress (about 50 000 s) under ambient conditions. This enhancement of the electrical bias‐stability can be attributed to highly ordered liquid‐crystalline nanostructure of copolymer semiconductors on dielectric surface via the optimization of molecular weights.</P>

When we survey the Chinese political history of post-1949 period, we can find out that there were two important events which made the watershed of the Chinese politics.They were the Sino-Soviet ideological disputes and the Great Leap Forward. These two events occured each other with close interrelationship. Among them, the Sino-Soviet ideological disputes was peculiar event that evolved out between the same two Marxian countries. And this also made Red China face the internal crisis. I think it very important to explore the interrelationship between the two events. For the fulfillment of this purpose, this thesis aims at analyzing the G.L.F. within the context of the Sino-Soviet conflicts. The G.L.F. was originated in the 20th congress of Soviet Communist party. Therefore, the main subject to explore in this thesis is how the Sino-Soviet ideological disputes evolved and how it eventually influenced to the G.L.F. The basic cause of the Sino-Soviet conflicts was due to the different degree of economic development of the two countries. This has became a prime factor in causing friction with Red China. As China is lagging far behind the Soviet Russia in economic development, she could not but cling to the extreme, dogmatic ideology called "Maoism" and rely on the charismatic leader, Mao to shorten the time for the building of "Socialism." Under this circumstance, Khrushchev's de-Stalinization gave a deadly blow to Mao. Because de-Stalinization posed the danger of a party split and it's impact upon China created a tremendous stir throughout the country. At first, Mao persuaded Khrushchev to abandon his new policy-line, but only failed.As a result, Mao and Khrushchev became estranged. Conceiving that Red china was beholden to her economically, Soviet Russia intended to make China an economic and even a political satellite by restricting economic assistance. In this situation, Mao had to make some important decision to break the bonds of Soviet's economic and political domination. So he decided to implement the G.L.F. for an independent Chinese way to communism. The G.L.F. was the symbol of China's, in particular Mao's, determination to break free of Soviet controlls. But this fantastic policy was failed. Mao could not help retreating from the G.L.F, because the economic situation in China demanded some decisive policy measures. To meet this urgency, the C.C.P carried out policy reviews and adjustment. From that time on, the serious intra-party struggle began and the Sino-Soviet relations got worsened. So the Sino-Soviet disputes and the G.L.F were really a watershed in political history of the Chinese People's Republic.

흑백 1채널 이미지를 3 채널 이미지로 색상화하고 Super-Resolution하여 의미 있는 정보를 얻도록 한다. CCTV, 군사용 카메라, 차량용 블랙박스 등 많은 분야에서 주간에 촬영된 영상은 컬러 이미지로 많은 정보를 얻을 수 있다. 하지만 야간에 촬영된 영상은 빛이 없어서 영상에서 정보를 얻기가 원활하지 않다. 따라서 DCGAN을 통해 단일 채널의 흑백 이미지를 3채널의 색상화 이미지로 만들고, Super-Resolution 기술을 적용해서 해상도를 높여 가시광선이 없는 야간이나 어두운 공간에서도 의미있는 영상을 얻을 수 있도록 한다.
2010∼2012년 연안에서 서식하는 해산어에서 아니사키스 유충의 감염현황

A survey was conducted to investigate infection of anisakid nematode larvae in 243 wild marine fishes caught from the southern coastal area of Korea between 2010 and 2012. The samples comprised fishes from 9 orders, 30 families and 50 species. Total infection rate of anisakid nematode larvae was 10.7% (26/243 fish), which comprised from Yeosu, 7.4% (7/95) in 2010 and 22.7% (5/22) in 2011; from Jeju, 8.2% (5/61) in 2011; from Wando, 40.9% (9/22) in 2012. Anisakid nematode larvae were not detected in Tongyoung and Wando samples in 2011. Molecular identification of the 89 worms from 26 fish was conducted by PCR-RFLP and/or sequence analysis of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of ribosomal DNA. From the results, 6 kinds of anisakis species were identified: Anisakis pegreffii (infection rate: 53.9%, 48/89 worms), Hysterothylacium aduncum (38.2%, 34/89), H. fabri (3.4%, 3/89), hybird (A. simplex X A. pegreffii) (2.4%, 2/89), A. simplex (1.1%, 1/89) and Raphidascaris lophii (1.1%, 1/89). The rate of single infection was 80.8% (21/26 infected fish), while 19.2% (5/26) showed mixed infection with 2 to 3 different anisakis species.
A survey of fish viruses isolated from wild marine fishes from the coastal waters of southern Korea

<P>A survey was conducted to investigate viral infection in 253 wild marine fishes harvested in the southern coastal area of Korea from 2010 to 2012. The fish that were captured by local anglers were randomly bought and sampled for virus examination. The samples were tested for presence of virus by virus isolation with FHM, FSP, and BF-2 cells and molecular methods (polymerase chain reaction and sequencing). Of the 253 fish sampled, 9 fish were infected with virus. Aquabirnaviruses (ABVs), <I>Viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus</I> (VHSV), and Red seabream iridovirus (RSIV) were detected in 7, 1, and 1 fish, respectively. Molecular phylogenies demonstrated the detected viruses (ABV, VHSV, and RSIV) were more closely related to viruses reported of the same type from Korea and Japan than from other countries, suggesting these viruses may be indigenous to Korean and Japanese coastal waters.</P>
