      • Marine Self-organizing VHF Data Link: Operational Principle

        The marine self-organizing VHF data link is a digital radio link with self-organizing ability, which exploits the STDMA algorithm and operates in marine VHF channels. It can support the applications of surveillance, situation awareness and communication. It is the core technology of the Universal AIS which is considered as a future surveillance system at sea by the IMO. In this paper, the operational principle of the marine self-organizing VHF data link is introduced. Simultaneously, a new access protocol is proposed to enhance the marine self-organizing VHF data link so as to support point-to-point communication. The point-to-point communication is one of the most important bases to establish dynamic internetworks among computers on the bridges in the future.

        한·중 여성소설의 전쟁 체험과 여성 주체성 형성

        이 논문은 한국 작가 박완서의 그 산이 정말 거기 있었을까와 중국 작가 장졔의 무자를 대상으로 여성들의 전쟁 체험과 여성의식의 변화 과정, 주체성의 형성 등을 살펴보았다. 두 작품 모두 여성의 시각으로 전시 여성들이 직면해야 하는 위기와 문제, 그리고 고난을 적극적으로 해결하고 극복하면서 여성으로서의 삶에 대해 진지하게 성찰하는 모습을적절히형상화하고있다. 비록나라는다르지만, 두작품에반영된전시여성의삶을통해 전쟁이 여성의 삶에 끼치는 영향과 여성 정체성 찾기에 나타난 보편성과 공통점을 확인할 수 있었다. 구세대 여성들의 경우, 전쟁의 고통스런 경험은 기성의 관념을 강화시키기도 하고 또역으로 분열시키기도 한다. 즉 구세대 여성들이 체화하고 있었던 가부장적 이념이 남성중심적사상으로강화되어 등장하기도하고, 또여성의공적 영역에서의사회생활을인정하는 모습을 보임으로써 가부장적 이념의 분열을 드러내기도 하였다. 다른 한편 전쟁은 여성에게 가족의 유지와 생계 문제 해결을 요구함으로써 공적 공간 으로의진출계기를마련해주었으며이를통해여성은독립한인간으로서의자아를찾아가는 기회를 가질 수 있었다. 결국 개인의 성장과 주체성의 구성은 사회가 제공하는 경험의요소와 인간내면의주체의식이서로호응되면서 발전해 간다는 것을 확인할 수있었다. 두작품은전쟁의계기로다양한경험을하게된여성들이자신의힘으로삶의어려움을 극복하고 경제적 독립을 통해 인격적 독립까지도 획득하는 과정을 보여주었다. 물론두작품에나타난주체성형성과정의구체적인양상에는차이가 분명존재한다. 그산이정말거기 있었을까에서 주인공 여성은전쟁 중여성 가장이되면서자신의내면을 형성하고자연스럽게 연애과 결혼의 경로를 거친다. 무자의우웨이는 작가가 되면서 가장으로서의 면모를 보이지만, 왜곡된 남성관으로 인하여 두 번에 걸친 결혼에 실패한다. 이러한 차이는 작가의 경험과 의식의 차이로 나타난 것이기도 하지만, 한국과 중국의 전쟁과 근대국가의 건설과정이 서로 달라 나타난 것이기도 하다. 이러한 차이에도 불구하고 한・중 양국의 대표적인 여성작가 박완서와 장졔의 작품에서 전시의 극한 환경 속에 놓인 여성들은 각종 고난을 극복하면서 자기 정체성을 탐구하는 끈질긴 노력을 공통적으로 보여주었다. 이런 측면에서 소설에 나타난 여성 의식의 전개와 변화 발전의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

        Pulsed low-dose rate radiotherapy for recurrent bone sarcomas: case reports and brief review

        Purpose: Re-irradiation for bulky recurrent sarcoma carries significant risks. Pulsed low-dose rate radiotherapy (PLDR) is an attractive option for re-irradiation due to inherent radiobiological advantages. Materials and Methods: We present two patients who underwent re-irradiation using PLDR technique, followed by a literature review. Results: The first case is that of a 76-year-old male who developed an in-field recurrence of a bulky pelvic bone high-grade chondrosarcoma after he was treated with definitive radiotherapy using helical TomoTherapy with a total dose of 66 Gy. The patient was re-irradiated using PLDR with a shrinking field technique; 50 Gy in 2 Gy fractions followed by a boost of 20 Gy in 2 Gy fractions. The patient remains disease-free without significant toxicity 60 months post-irradiation. The second case is that of an 82-year-old female who was treated with a definitive irradiation of 66 Gy in 33 fractions for a right shoulder grade II chondrosarcoma. She developed an in-field recurrence 28 months later and presented with bulky disease causing brachial plexopathy and lymphedema. The patient was re-irradiated with a palliative intent to a total dose of 50 Gy in 2 Gy fractions over 5 weeks using PLDR. Brachial plexopathy resolved shortly after re-irradiation, but local progression near the surface was evident 8 months later. She passed away from unrelated causes 11 months later. Conclusion: We present two cases highlighting our early experience with PLDR, which was effective in the re-irradiation of recurrent bony sarcoma. Our study highlights PLDR as an option for re-irradiation in recurrent unresectable tumors.

        High-Definition Computed Tomography for Coronary Artery Stent Imaging: a Phantom Study

        Objective: To assess the performance of a high-definition CT (HDCT) for imaging small caliber coronary stents (≤ 3 mm) by comparing different scan modes of a conventional 64-row standard-definition CT (SDCT). Materials and Methods: A cardiac phantom with twelve stents (2.5 mm and 3.0 mm in diameter) was scanned by HDCT and SDCT. The scan modes were retrospective electrocardiography (ECG)-gated helical and prospective ECG-triggered axial with tube voltages of 120 kVp and 100 kVp, respectively. The inner stent diameters (ISD) and the in-stent attenuation value (AVin-stent) and the in-vessel extra-stent attenuation value (AVin-vessel) were measured by two observers. The artificial lumen narrowing (ALN = [ISD - ISDmeasured]/ISD) and artificial attenuation increase between in-stent and in-vessel (AAI = AVin-stent - AVin-vessel) were calculated. All data was analyzed by intraclass correlation and ANOVA-test. Results: The correlation coefficient of ISD, AVin-vessel and AVin-stent between the two observers was good. The ALNs of HDCT were statistically lower than that of SDCT (30 ± 5.7% versus 35 ± 5.4%, p < 0.05). HDCT had statistically lower AAI values than SDCT (15.7 ± 81.4 HU versus 71.4 ± 90.5 HU, p < 0.05). The prospective axial dataset demonstrated smaller ALN than the retrospective helical dataset on both HDCT and SDCT (p < 0.05). Additionally, there were no differences in ALN between the 120 kVp and 100 kVp tube voltages on HDCT (p = 0.05). Conclusion: High-definition CT helps improve measurement accuracy for imaging coronary stents compared to SDCT. HDCT with 100 kVp and the prospective ECG-triggered axial technique, with a lower radiation dose than 120 kVp application, may be advantageous in evaluating coronary stents with smaller calibers (≤ 3 mm).         The molecular mechanism of propionate-regulating gluconeogenesis in bovine hepatocytes

        Objective: Cows that are nursing get around 80% of their glucose from liver gluconeogenesis. Propionate, a significant precursor of liver gluconeogenesis, can regulate the key genes involved in hepatic gluconeogenesis expression, but its precise effects on the activity of enzymes have not yet been fully elucidated. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of propionate on the activity, gene expression, and protein abundance of the key enzymes involved in the gluconeogenesis of dairy cow hepatocytes. Methods: The hepatocytes were cultured and treated with various concentrations of sodium propionate (0, 1.25, 2.50, 3.75, and 5.00 mM) for 12 h. Glucose content in the culture media was determined by an enzymatic coloring method. The activities of gluconeogenesis related enzymes were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay kits, and the levels of gene expression and protein abundance of the enzymes were detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blot, respectively. Results: Propionate supplementation considerably increased the amount of glucose in the culture medium compared to the control (p<0.05); while there was no discernible difference among the various treatment concentrations (p>0.05). The activities of cytoplasmic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCK1), mitochondrial phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCK2), pyruvate carboxylase (PC), and glucose-6-phosphatase (G6PC) were increased with the addition of 2.50 and 3.75 mM propionate; the gene expressions and protein abundances of PEPCK1, PEPCK2, PC, and G6PC were increased by 3.75 mM propionate addition. Conclusion: Propionate encouraged glucose synthesis in bovine hepatocytes, and 3.75 mM propionate directly increased the activities, gene expressions and protein abundances of PC, PEPCK1, PEPCK2, and G6PC in bovine hepatocytes, providing a theoretical basis of propionate-regulating gluconeogenesis in bovine hepatocytes.

      • Serum Zinc Status and Helicobacter Pylori Infection in Gastric Disease Patients

        The role of Helicobacter pylori status and serum zinc value in gastric disease patients and healthy controls were investigated. Cases used in this work were 45 gastric cancer patients, 44 with peptic ulcers, 52 suffering gastritis and 64 healthy controls, all diagnosed histologically with the controls undergoing medical checkups. Helicobacter pylori status and serum levels of Zn were determined by 13C-urea breath test and flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer, respectively. Our study showed that Helicobacter pylori infection has no change in gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer group, on the contrast, serum levels of Zn were significantly reduced in gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer group, compared with healthy controls, and the higher the Zn levels are, the more increased risk of gastric cancer. Helicobacter pylori infection is a cause of gastritis, peptic ulcers and even gastric cancer, while serum zinc level is an indicator of protection of gastric membranes against damage.

        Differentiation of the Infarct Core from Ischemic Penumbra within the First 4.5 Hours, Using Diffusion Tensor Imaging-Derived Metrics: A Rat Model

        Objective: To investigate whether the diffusion tensor imaging-derived metrics are capable of differentiating the ischemic penumbra (IP) from the infarct core (IC), and determining stroke onset within the first 4.5 hours. Materials and Methods: All procedures were approved by the local animal care committee. Eight of the eleven rats having permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion were included for analyses. Using a 7 tesla magnetic resonance system, the relative cerebral blood flow and apparent diffusion coefficient maps were generated to define IP and IC, half hour after surgery and then every hour, up to 6.5 hours. Relative fractional anisotropy, pure anisotropy (rq) and diffusion magnitude (rL) maps were obtained. One-way analysis of variance, receiver operating characteristic curve and nonlinear regression analyses were performed. Results: The evolutions of tensor metrics were different in ischemic regions (IC and IP) and topographic subtypes (cortical, subcortical gray matter, and white matter). The rL had a significant drop of 40% at 0.5 hour, and remained stagnant up to 6.5 hours. Significant differences (p < 0.05) in rL values were found between IP, IC, and normal tissue for all topographic subtypes. Optimal rL threshold in discriminating IP from IC was about -29%. The evolution of rq showed an exponential decrease in cortical IC, from -26.9% to -47.6%; an rq reduction smaller than 44.6% can be used to predict an acute stroke onset in less than 4.5 hours. Conclusion: Diffusion tensor metrics may potentially help discriminate IP from IC and determine the acute stroke age within the therapeutic time window.

      • Development of Automatic Supplementary Lighting System for Greenhouses

        To solve the agricultural damages caused by the climate change, this study is developed to build an automatic supplementary lighting platform for plant factories. The platform mainly uses aluminum as materials. The lighting strategy will depend on the DPI. During the day, platform parked at the original position and uses quantum sensor to accumulate the daylight. At night, it moved to the supplementary lighting area and provides lighting to plants. The platform is operated in cooperation with a PLC control system, and uses RFID and limit switch as a local positioning system at plant factories. In supplementary lighting area, lifting system detects the height of plants to adjust the level of lampshade accordingly. The study operated 10 times movement experiments, after first 5 times calibration, the success rate of last 5 times moving positioning is 93%, and the success rate of 10 times lifting experiments is 98%. The platform can provide an average of 354 μmol /㎡ /s light intensity within the distance of 10cm from the plants, and 3.27 μmol CO<sub>2</sub> / ㎡ / s if it is within the photosynthesis characteristic of lettuce. Based on the results of two-week experiment, it can be confirmed that supplementary lighting is able to provide sufficient lighting to plants during the night, and reach DPI standard of each supplementary lighting area.

      • Preparation and Characterization of Anti-GP73 Monoclonal Antibodies and Development of Double-antibody Sandwich ELISA

        Background: Serum Golgi protein 73 (GP73) as a novel and potential marker for diagnosing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have been found to be elevated in HCC patients and associated with clinical variables representing tumor growth and invasiveness. The aim of this study was to prepare a pair of monoclonal antibodys (mAbs) against GP73 and develop a newly designed double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (s-ELISA), which would be used in the detection of serum GP73 (sGP73) as well as in the diagnosis of HCC. Materials and Methods: Produced by prokaryotic expression, the purified recombinant GP73 (rGP73), produced by prokaryotic expression, was used to immunize the Balb/c mice. Two hybridoma cell lines against GP73 were obtained by fusing mouse Sp2/0 myeloma cells with spleen cells from the immunized mice. The titers of anti-GP73 mAb reached 1:243,000. Western blotting analysis and Immunohistochemistry staining revealed that anti-GP73 mAb could recognize GP73 protein. The double-antibody s-ELISA was successfully established and validated by 119 HCC and 103 normal serum samples. Results: showed that the detection limit of this method could reach 1.56 ng/ml, and sGP73 levels in HCC group (mean=190.6 ng/ml) were much higher than those of in healthy controls (mean=70.92 ng/ml). Conclusions: Results of our study not only showed that sGP73 levels of HCC patients were significantly higher than those of healthy controls, but also indicated that the laboratory homemade anti-GP73 mAbs could be the optimal tool used in evaluating sGP73 levels, which would provide a solid foundation for subsequent clinical applications.

        A Review on the Scientific Name of Chinese Cabbage by International Code of Nomenclature

        We organized the scientific names of Chinese cabbage according to the International Code ofNomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN) and the International Code of Nomenclature forCultivated Plants (ICNCP). We found that the subspecies name ‘Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis(Lour.) Rupr.’ was suitable as the scientific name for Chinese cabbage, and we classified B. rapavar. glabra Regel. as its synonym. In addition, B. petsai Bailey is an ‘unrecorded name’ notfound in the original description, and therefore is not suitable for use. We conclude that allnames based on this name are ‘invalid names’, and should not be used.
