        Contactless Power Charger for Light Electric Vehicles Featuring Active Load Matching

        Contactless power transfer technology is gaining increasing attention in city transportation applications because of its high mobility and flexibility in charging and its commensurate power level with conductive power transfer method. In this study, an inductively coupled contactless charging system for a 48 V light electric vehicle is proposed. Although this study does not focus on system efficiency, the generic problems in an inductively coupled contactless power transfer system without ferromagnetic structure are discussed. An active load matching method is also proposed to control the power transfer on the receiving side through a load matching converter. Small signal modeling and linear control technology are applied to the load matching converter for port voltage regulation, which effectively controls the power flow into the load. A prototype is built, and experiments are conducted to reveal the intrinsic characteristics of a series–series resonant inductive power charger in terms of frequency, air gap length, power flow control, coil misalignment, and efficiency issues.

      • DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF AN ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM USING DYNAMIC-KEY MECHANISM

        The existing encryption algorithms have been designed for the encryption key value to be unchanged and applied to the round functions of each block, and enciphered. Therefore, it has such a weak point that the plaintext or encryption key could be easily exposed by differential cryptanalysis or linear cryptanalysis, both are the most powerful methods for decoding block encryption of a round-repeating structure. In order to deal with this weak point, an encryption algorithm using a more efficient key should be designed. In this paper, it proposed an encryption algorithm which is designed for each encryption key value to be applied to each round block with a different value. This algorithm needs a short processing time in encryption and decryption, and it has a high intensity, which can be applied to electronic commerce and various applications of data protection.

        Cloning and Characterization of Functional Trehalose-6-Phosphate Synthase Gene in Maize

        Trehalose is a non-reducing disaccharide of glucose that functions as a compatible solute in the stabilization of biological structures under heat and desiccation stress in bacteria, fungi, and some “resurrection plants”. In the plant kingdom, trehalose is biosynthesized by trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TPS) and trehalose-6-phosphate phosphatase (TPP). Over-expression of exogenous and endogenous genes encoding TPS and TPP is reported to be effective for improving abiotic stress tolerance in tobacco, potato, tomato, rice, and Arabidopsis. On the basis of bioinformatics prediction, we cloned a fragment containing an open reading frame of 2,820 bp from maize,which encodes a protein of 939 amino acids. Phylogenetic analysis showed that this gene belongs to the class I subfamily of the TPS gene family. Analysis of conserved domains revealed the presence of a TPS domain and a TPP domain. Yeast complementation with TPS and TPP mutants demonstrated that this protein has the activity of trehalose-6-phosphate synthase. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR and realtime quantitative PCR indicated that the expression of this gene is upregulated in response to both salt and cold stress.

        A novel synthesis of ditrimethylolpropane biphosphoramide diethyleneamine as flame retardant and antistatic textiles

        A novel phosphorous- and nitrogen-containing flame retardant, ditrimethylolpropane biphosphoramide diethyleneamine (DBD), was synthesized. Its chemical structure is characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The effect of DBD on the physical, mechanical, and antistatic properties, thermal stability, and flame retardancy of wool fabric was systematically investigated. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the initial decomposition temperature of DBD was 165 oC and 243 oC under nitrogen and air atmosphere, respectively. Furthermore, after 30 washes, the treated wool fabric exhibited excellent wash durability and good antistatic properties. Vertical burning tests indicated that both the burning time and char length of the treated wool fabric were lower than those of the flame-retardant standard, leading to a B1 flame retardant rating for the treated wool fabric. Compared to untreated wool fabric, the limiting oxygen index value of treated wool fabric increased significantly from 25.7% to 34.7%.

        Down-regulated serum microRNA-101 is associated with aggressive progression and poor prognosis of cervical cancer

        Objective: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a vital role in pathogenesis and progression of many cancers, including cervical cancer. However, importance of serum level of miR-101 in cervical cancer has rarely been studied. In the present study, clinical significance and prognostic value of serum miR-101 for cervical cancer was investigated. Methods: Association between miR-101 level in cervical cancer tissues and prognosis of patients was analyzed by using data retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, which was followed with our clinical study in which miR-101 serum level comparison between cervical cancer patients and healthy controls was conducted by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results: TCGA database demonstrated that miR-101 was down-regulated in cervical cancer tissues compared with normal cervical tissues, and univariate Cox regression analysis indicated that decreased miR-101 expression was a highly significant negative risk factor. Similar trend was found in the serum miR-101. Serum level of miR-101 was associated with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage (p=0.003), lymph node metastasis (p=0.001), and serum squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag) level >4 (p=0.007). The overall survival time of cervical cancer patients with a higher level of serum miR-101 was significantly longer than that of patients with a lower level of serum miR-101. Moreover, multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that the down-regulated serum level of miR-101 was an independent predictor for the unfavorable prognosis of cervical cancer. Conclusion: Serum level of miR-101 is closely associated with metastasis and prognosis of cervical cancer; and, hence could be a potential biomarker and prognostic predictor for cervical cancer.

        Ubiquitin Ligases in Cholesterol Metabolism

        To maintain cholesterol homeostasis, the processes of cholesterol metabolism are regulated at multiple levels including transcription, translation, and enzymatic activity. Recently, the regulation of protein stability of some key players in cholesterol metabolism has been characterized. More and more ubiquitin ligases have been identified including gp78, Hrd1, TRC8, TEB4, Fbw7, and inducible degrader of low density lipoprotein receptor. Their working mechanisms and physiological functions are becoming revealed. Here, we summarize the structure, substrates and function of these ubiquitin ligases. Their potential application in drug discovery is also discussed.

        Synthesis of a novel phosphorus-nitrogen-containing intumescent flame retardant and its application to fabrics

        A novel phosphorus-nitrogen-containing intumescent flame retardant (IFR), ditrimethylolpropane di-Nhydroxyethylphosphoramide (DDP), was successfully synthesized and used as a flame retardant forvarious fabrics. The chemical structure of DDP was characterized using FT-IR, 1H NMR, 31P NMR, andelemental analysis. The thermal property of DDP was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. Theeffect of DDP on the flame-retardant properties of fabrics was evaluated by measurement of the burninglength. The optimal synthesis conditions for DDP were determined. DDP showed high flame retardancywhen applied to nylon and moderate flame retardancy when applied to cotton and polyester

        Thermo-mechanical behaviors of epoxy resins reinforced with nano-Al2O3 particles

        This study examined the thermo-mechanical behavior of epoxy resins/nano-Al2O3 composites including the curing behavior, thermal stability, dynamic mechanical properties and thermal mechanical properties. The DSC curve peak temperature of the composites was decreased by the addition of nano-Al2O3. The thermal stability of the composites was similar to that of the neat epoxy resins. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) indicated the glass transition temperature of the composites to be approximately 11 8C higher than that of the neat epoxy resins. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE)of the composites decreased with increasing nano-Al2O3 content.

      • Detection of Starch Content in Potato Based on Hyperspectral Imaging Technique

        Detection of starch content in potato is studied applying hyperspectral imaging technique in the paper. The original and preprocessing spectra were processed with partial least square(PLS) method to build prediction model of starch content. The original spectra between 400 and 1000nm was preprocessed with smoothing, second derivation, and multiplicative scatter correction (MSC). Prediction model was built with preprocessing spectra by applying principal component analysis (PCA). Known from the result, the model based on the preprocessing spectra preprocessed with smoothing and PCA is the best of all prediction models built in research. The determination coefficient (R2)of calibration set and prediction set was 0.8234 and 0.9031 respectively. The root mean square error of calibration set (RMSEC) and root mean square error of validation set(RMSEV) was 0.5633 and 0.5025,respectively.It indicated that this method could be applied in detection of starch content in potato. The study could offer theoretical and practical reference for further study in the future.
