‘Murmur[ing] Name upon Name’: Yeats, Daniel Crilly, John Kells Ingram and Young Ireland Balladry
Warwick Gould 한국예이츠학회 2023 한국예이츠 저널 Vol.70 No.-
Section V of The Tragic Generation, Book IV of The Trembling of the Veil (1922) opens with a double-themed meditation on the Rhymers’ Club and what became the Irish Literary Society. The connexion perhaps lies in the numbers of Irish- or Celtic-sympathizers among the active membership of the Rhymers’ Club. John Kells Ingram (1823-1907), who wrote in March 1843 ‘The Memory of the Dead’. arguably the greatest literary ballad of the Young Ireland era. By the time Yeats admitted authorship, Ingram’s ballad had been ‘for much of the nineteenth century the anthem of Irish nationalism.’ On the other hand, around 1916, Yeats recalls the diplomat Daniel Crilly (1857-1923)’s reading of the ballad ‘The Men of By and By’ in 1888 because, Yeats is not sure that even after the events of Easter, 1916, Ireland really has become the nation of Davis’s dream. Like Crilly then, he can only murmur over sacred names. Crilly’s old performance pushes Yeats to question only the harder this ritual of memorialisation.

The Yeats Society of Sligo, and a Yeats Country Arts Festival in May 1958 had been established by what Jim McGarry, one of the seven original plotters, called Sligo’s “small cultural underground.” It had included a lecture on Yeats from Roger McHugh of UCD. An occasional lecture series from Padraic Colum, Ethel Mannin, briefly a mistress of Yeats’s, who donated his letters to the Sligo Co. Library, and Thomas Rice Henn, author of The Lonely Tower, in 1959, followed. The pharmacist, Tony Toher, on the corner of O’Connell and Wine Streets, had on display a set of 38 photographs of Sligo sights prepared and a “Yeats County” map made up to show those pilgrims who came in search of Yeats the geography of the county according to the places in the poems. Starting with this image of Sligo as “underground culture,” the author reflects his own experience when he first attended the Yeats Summer School and traces the history of the Summer School, providing rich information on distinguished Yeats scholars, such as T. R. Henn, Denis Donoghue, Frank Kermode, and famous Irish poets including Seamus Heaney, Geoffrey Hill, Brendan Kennelly, Thomas Kinsella, and Michael Longley.

An analytical semiclassical model is presented of the interaction between a single atom and the two degenerate counter-propagatingelectromagnetic eld modes in a microtoroidal resonator. The model is valid in the weak driving limit, and predicts atomic transits withtemporal structure qualitatively dierent than that when only one electromagnetic mode is present.
Validation of Radioanalytical Techniques for Nuclear Waste Characterisation
Warwick, Phillip E. Korean Radioactive Waste Society 2019 방사성폐기물학회지 Vol.17 No.4
Waste characterisation associated with nuclear site decommissioning relies on radiochemical analysis of a diverse range of sample types, requiring extensive validation of analytical techniques using matrix-matched materials. The absence of relevant reference materials has hindered robust method development and validation. The paper discusses how method validation in support of nuclear waste characterisation can be achieved without using reference materials. The key stages in an analytical procedure are evaluated and a multi-stage approach is proposed with the ultimate aim of determining an operational envelope for an analytical procedure.

This paper explores the effects of the proposed free trade agreement between Japan and Korea. Our experiments are based on a new dynamic simulation model, called the Asia-Pacific G-cubed Model, which incorporates rational expectations and intertemporal optimizing behavior of agents. The simulations show that both Korea and Japan benefit from the bilateral FTA although other countries lose. The output gains from the FTA are estimated to be larger when trade liberalization is undertaken by a more gradually phased-in than a rapid tariff reduction. [C53, D58, F15, 053]
Anodisation Increases Integration of Unloaded Titanium Implants in Sheep Mandible.
Duncan, Warwick J,Lee, Min-Ho,Bae, Tae-Sung,Lee, Sook-Jeong,Gay, Jennifer,Loch, Carolina Hindawi Pub. Corp 2015 BioMed research international Vol.2015 No.-

Spark discharge anodic oxidation forms porous TiO2 films on titanium implant surfaces. This increases surface roughness and concentration of calcium and phosphate ions and may enhance early osseointegration. To test this, forty 3.75???mm ?? 13???mm titanium implants (Megagen, Korea) were placed into healed mandibular postextraction ridges of 10 sheep. There were 10 implants per group: RBM surface (control), RBM + anodised, RBM + anodised + fluoride, and titanium alloy + anodised surface. Resonant frequency analysis (RFA) was measured in implant stability quotient (ISQ) at surgery and at sacrifice after 1-month unloaded healing. Mean bone-implant contact (% BIC) was measured in undemineralised ground sections for the best three consecutive threads. One of 40 implants showed evidence of failure. RFA differed between groups at surgery but not after 1 month. RFA values increased nonsignificantly for all implants after 1 month, except for controls. There was a marked difference in BIC after 1-month healing, with higher values for alloy implants, followed by anodised + fluoride and anodised implants. Anodisation increased early osseointegration of rough-surfaced implants by 50-80%. RFA testing lacked sufficient resolution to detect this improvement. Whether this gain in early bone-implant contact is clinically significant is the subject of future experiments.
