The impact of lymph node dissection on survival in patients with clinical early-stage ovarian cancer

        Ting Deng,Qidan Huang,Ting Wan,Xiaoling Luo,Yanling Feng,He Huang,Jihong Liu 대한부인종양학회 2021 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.32 No.3

Objective: To estimate the impact of lymph node dissection on survival in patients withapparent early-stage epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of patients with clinical stage I–II EOC. Allpatients underwent primary surgery at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center between January2003 and December 2015. Demographic features and clinicopathological information as wellas perioperative adverse events were investigated, and survival analyses were performed. Results: A total of 400 ovarian cancer patients were enrolled, and patients were divided into2 groups: 81 patients did not undergo lymph node resection (group A), and 319 patientsunderwent lymph node dissection (group B). In group B, the median number of removednodes per patient was 25 (21 pelvic and 4 para-aortic nodes). In groups A and B, respectively, the 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) rates were 83.3% and 82.1% (p=0.305), and the5-year overall survival (OS) rates were 93.1% and 90.9% (p=0.645). The recurrence rate inthe retroperitoneal lymph nodes was not associated with lymph node dissection (p=0.121). The median operating time was markedly longer in group B than in group A (220 minutesvs. 155 minutes, p<0.001), and group B had a significantly higher incidence of lymph cysts atdischarge (32.9% vs. 0.0%, p<0.001). Conclusion: In patients with early-stage ovarian cancer, lymph node dissection was notassociated with a gain in OS or PFS and was associated with an increased incidence ofperioperative adverse events.

Ergostatrien-3β-ol (EK100) from Antrodia camphorata Attenuates Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Liver Injury In Vitro and In Vivo

        Ting-Yu Chao,Cheng-Chu Hsieh,Shih-Min Hsu,Cho-Hua Wan,Guan-Ting Lian,Yi-Han Tseng,Yueh-Hsiung Kuo,Shu-Chen Hsieh 한국식품영양과학회 2021 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.26 No.1

Hepatic ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury is a complication that occurs during liver surgery, whereby hepatic tissue is injured by oxygen deficiency during ischemia, then further damaged by a cascade of inflammatory and oxidative insults when blood is resupplied during reperfusion. Antrodia camphorata is an indigenous fungus in Taiwan and an esteemed Chinese herbal medicine with various bioactivities. This study examined the effect of ergostatrien-3β-ol (EK100), an active compound found in both the fruiting body and mycelia of A. camphorata, on IR injury pathologies in rats and cell models of oxidative and inflammatory stress. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to receive a vehicle or 5 mg/kg EK100 prior to hepatic IR injury induced by 1 h ischemia followed by 24 h reperfusion, or a sham operation. RAW 264.7 murine macrophages and HepG2 hepatocytes were pretreated with EK100, then inflammation was induced with lipopolysaccharides in the former and oxidative stress was induced with hydrogen peroxide in the latter. EK100 decreased IR-induced elevation in serum levels of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase and lowered levels of the inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1β. In addition, EK100 significantly reduced hepatic mRNA levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2, as well as nitrite production and iNOS gene expression in both hepatocyte and macrophage cell lines. We demonstrated that EK100 exhibits potent protection against hepatic IR injury, which may be used to design strategies to ameliorate liver damage during liver surgery.

Fumigaclavine C attenuates adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and ameliorates lipid accumulation in high-fat diet-induced obese mice

        Wan-Guo Yu,Yun He,Yun-Fang Chen,Xiao-Yao Gao,Wan-E Ning,Chun-You Liu,Ting-Fan Tang,Quan Liu,Xiao-Cheng Huang 대한약리학회 2019 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.23 No.3

Fumigaclavine C (FC), an active indole alkaloid, is obtained from endophytic Aspergillus terreus (strain No. FC118) by the root of Rhizophora stylosa (Rhizophoraceae). This study is designed to evaluate whether FC has anti-adipogenic effects in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and whether it ameliorates lipid accumulation in highfat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice. FC notably increased the levels of glycerol in the culture supernatants and markedly reduced lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. FC differentially inhibited the expressions of adipogenesis-related genes, including the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor proteins, CCAAT/enhancer-binding proteins, and sterol regulatory element-binding proteins. FC markedly reduced the expressions of lipid synthesis-related genes, such as the fatty acid binding protein, lipoprotein lipase, and fatty acid synthase. Furthermore, FC significantly increased the expressions of lipolysis-related genes, such as the hormone-sensitive lipase, Aquaporin- 7, and adipose triglyceride lipase. In HFD-induced obese mice, intraperitoneal injections of FC decreased both the body weight and visceral adipose tissue weight. FC administration significantly reduced lipid accumulation. Moreover, FC could dosedependently and differentially regulate the expressions of lipid metabolism-related transcription factors. All these data indicated that FC exhibited anti-obesity effects through modulating adipogenesis and lipolysis.

      • Comparison of the clinical outcomes of manual syringe infusion and pump infusion of distending media for hysteroscopic procedures: a preliminary report of a randomized controlled trial

        ( Wan-hua Ting ),( Sheng-mou Hsiao ) 대한산부인과학회 2016 대한산부인과학회 학술대회 Vol.102 No.-

Objectives: Adverse events associated with large volumes of distending media in hysteroscopic procedures can be life-threatening. Manual syringe infusion (MI) may have potential benefit according to our previous study [1]. The aim of this prospective randomized controlled study was to compare the clinical outcomes of MI and pump infusion (PI) of distending media for hysteroscopic procedures. Methods: Between December 2013 and April 2016, women who had hysteroscopic procedures and gave their informed written consent to participate in the study were randomly assigned to two groups: MI and PI. Women’s characteristics, the volume of distending media used, perioperative data, baseline and postoperative serum electrolyte levels and values of blood osmolarity were recorded. The Wilcoxon rank-sum test and the Chi-square test were employed for statistical analysis. Results: Baseline characteristics were similar between the groups (Table 1). The PI group was associated with a higher volume of infused fluid and collected fluid, and a lower postoperative pain score (Table 2). There is a tendency to be well correlated between the infused fluid and fluid deficit (Spearman’s rho = 0.21, p=0.058). Almost all serum electrolyte levels differed significantly between the baseline and postoperative values in both groups; however, no significant differences were noted between groups (Table 3). The postoperative sodium level (Spearman rho = -0.26, p=0.03, Table 4) and the change of potassium level (Spearman rho = -0.26, p=0.03, Table 5) were significantly correlated to the volume of fluid deficit. The postoperative phosphate level (Spearman rho = 0.31, p=0.03, Table 4) were significantly correlated to the volume of infused fluid. None have significant adverse effects. Conclusions: The MI method was associated with a lower volume of infused fluid than the PI method. Thus, the MI method may be superior to PI method in reducing media related hysteroscopic complications.

Dynamic Protein Adsorption-Desorption Analysis of Contact Lenses in a Three-Dimensional-Printed Eye Model

        Wan-Hsin Chang,Pei-Yi Liu,Dai-En Lin,Yuan-Ting Jiang,Chien-Ju Lu,Yuan-Hao Howard Hsu 한국고분자학회 2022 Macromolecular Research Vol.30 No.1

Adsorption of secreted protein on contact lenses is a dynamic and complex behavior. To understand this behavior, we used three-dimensional (3D) printing technology to create an eye model that simulated the anterior segment of the actual human eyeball. In this model, the fluid inlet was connected to a syringe pump to mimic the rate of human tear secretion and the outlet was connected to an ultraviolet- visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer. The experimental results revealed that the symmetrical eye model with a 180° inlet-outlet angle was suitable for dynamic analysis of protein adsorption. In this model, protein adsorption was slow and desorption was rapid. The contact lens was soaked in poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine- co-butyl methacrylate) (PMB) to confirm the anti-protein adsorption property of this polymer through dynamic adsorption and desorption eye model analysis.

Arge aurora Wei sp. nov. (Hymenoptera, Argidae) from China with a key to East Asian species of Arge nipponensis group

        Wan Siying,Wu Duo,Niu Gengyun,Liu Ting,Wei Meicai 한국곤충학회 2022 Entomological Research Vol.52 No.1

Arge nipponensis group is proposed for 12 East Asian species. A key to species of this group is provided. Arge aurora Wei, sp. nov., a widespread species in China is described. It has been misidentified as Arge nipponensis Rohwer, 1910 in China since 1927. Arge nipponensis Rohwer is removed from the faunal list of China. The ovipositor and genitalia of A. nipponensis are described and figured for the first time. The geographic distribution analysis indicated that geographical barriers were probably the key to the distribution of A. aurora and A. nipponensis.

      • Identification of Genes and MicroRNAs Involved in Ovarian Carcinogenesis

Wan, Shu-Mei,Lv, Fang,Guan, Ting Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.8

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play roles in the clinic, both as diagnostic and therapeutic tools. The identification of relevant microRNAs is critically required for ovarian cancer because of the prevalence of late diagnosis and poor treatment options currently. To identify miRNAs involved in the development or progression of ovarian cancer, we analyzed gene expression profiles downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus. Comparison of expression patterns between carcinomas and the corresponding normal ovarian tissues enabled us to identify 508 genes that were commonly up-regulated and 1331 genes that were down-regulated in the cancer specimens. Function annotation of these genes showed that most of the up-regulated genes were related to cell cycling, and most of the down-regulated genes were associated with the immune response. When these differentially expressed genes were mapped to MiRTarBase, we obtained a total of 18 key miRNAs which may play important regulatory roles in ovarian cancer. Investigation of these genes and microRNAs should help to disclose the molecular mechanisms of ovarian carcinogenesis and facilitate development of new approaches to therapeutic intervention.
