The Influence of Responsibility Shift on Warehousing Performance: The Case of Australia
Vinh V. THAI,Vinh V. THAI,Zaheed HALIM 한국해운물류학회 2019 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.35 No.1
Although there have been extensive efforts to eliminate the use of warehousing due to its large requirement of resources, the need to connect manufacturing with end consumers will be difficult to coordinate without it. In Australia, the rapid advance of warehousing has facilitated the challenging demands of customers. In the literature, the challenges of increasing reliability, space utilisation, and reducing waste have been managed through improved warehousing processes and technology; however, the important role of employees through responsibility shift in enhancing warehousing performance has not yet been fully explored. This study therefore examines the relationship between the employment of Responsibility Shift (RS) and Warehousing Performance (WP) in Australia within the processes of Inbounding and Storage through the usage of a survey conducted with department supervisors and managers of warehousing companies which were members of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Australia (CILTA) and Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Australia (SCLAA). It was found that RS positively causes a statistically significant influence on warehousing performance. This research contributes to enrich the literature on RS as it is perhaps the first study which examines the effects of RS on warehousing performance in Australia while also enables warehousing managers to explore ways to improve warehousing performance from the human resource management perspective. Although being significant both in terms of managerial and academic implications, the generalizability of this research is limited from a small sample size. Future research, therefore, needs to look into a wider population as well as further investigation into the effects of Responsibility Shift in the rapidly developing warehousing business environment elsewhere in the world.

In this paper, we propose an alternative blocking-matching approach to the correspondence problem in stereo matching. In blocking-matching algorithms, a local window is used to measure the similarity (or dissimilarity) between pixels of a stereo pair. Although some area-based stereo matching methods have been developed and work well in many kinds of regions such as textureless or object boundary regions, their performance can degrade when working in some types of radiometric conditions. Our proposed algorithm is an improved method that uses a non-parametric transform in the pre-processing step and an edge-preserving filter in the post-processing step. Input images are first pre-processed by the census transform, which makes the proposed method more robust when the image pair is captured in different light sources or camera exposure conditions. The window cost in our approach is computed from the transformed images using the Hamming distance, and the correspondence is finally chosen by a Winner-Takes-All strategy. The experimental results for the Middleburry images show that the proposed method outperforms test local stereo methods in radiometrically different images.
Fuzzy Encoding Pattern for Stereo Matching Cost
Dinh, Vinh Quang,Nguyen, Vinh Dinh,Van Nguyen, Hau,Jeon, Jae Wook IEEE 2016 IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Vide Vol.26 No.7
<P>We propose a novel fuzzy encoding pattern that fuzzily encodes the relative orders between pixel pairs. An image window is divided into disjoint neighboring pixel sets for the window's center pixel, and the relative order is established not only between the center pixel and its neighbors but also between the pixel pairs in each neighboring pixel set. The relative orders are fuzzily encoded to extract more detailed information from a local structure. We successfully apply the pattern as a matching cost function for stereo correspondence under severe radiometric variations. We conduct experiments using the proposed matching cost function and compare it with functions employing the census transform, supporting local binary pattern, and adaptive normalized cross correlation, as well as a mutual information-based matching cost function, using different stereo data sets. Compared with the census transform, the proposed function reduces the error from 33.1% to 16.9% in the Middlebury data set and from 17.6% to 9.5% in the Kitti data set. The experimental results indicate that the proposed function is superior to the state-of-the-art functions under radiometric variations. In addition, the proposed function is faster than recently developed functions, such as the adaptive normalized cross correlation, a mutual information-based function, and support local binary pattern.</P>

A newly puzzle shape of crestbond rib shear connector is a type of ductile perfobond rib shear connector. This shear connector has some advantages, including relatively easy rebar installation and cutting, as well as the higher shear resistance strength. Thus, this study proposed a newly puzzle shape of crestbond rib with a "Ʊ" shape, and its shear resistance behaviors and shear strengths were examined using push-out tests. Five main parameters were considered in the push-out specimens to evaluate the effects of shear resistance parameters such as the dimensions of the crestbond rib, transverse rebars in the crestbond dowel, concrete strength, rebar strength, and dowel action on the shear strength. The shear loading test results were used to compare the changes in the shear behaviors, failure modes, and shear strengths. It was found that the concrete strength and number of transverse rebars in the crestbond rib were significantly related to its shear resistance. After the initial bearing resistance behavior of the concrete dowel, a relative slip occurred in all the specimens. However, its rigid behavior to shear loading decreased the ductility of the shear connection. The cross-sectional area of the crestbond rib was also shown to have a minor effect on the shear resistance of the crestbond rib shear connector. The failure mechanism of the crestbond rib shear connector was complex, and included compression, shear, and tension. As a failure mode, a crack was initiated in the middle of the concrete slab in a vertical direction, and propagated with increasing shear load. Then, horizontal cracks occurred and propagated to the front and rear faces of the specimens. Based on the results of this study, a design shear strength equation was proposed and compared with previously suggested equations.
Thermocapillary migration of a fluid compound droplet
Vinh T. Nguyen,Truong V. Vu,Phan H. Nguyen,Nang X. Ho,Binh D. Pham,Hoe D. Nguyen,Hung V. Vu 대한기계학회 2021 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.35 No.9
Compound and simple droplets have been studied and appeared in many life applications, e.g., drug processing and microfluidic systems. Many studies have been conducted on the thermocapillary effects on simple droplets, but similar studies on compound droplets are quite rare. Filling this missing gap, this paper presents the front-tracking-based simulation results of the thermocapillary effects on compound droplets in a certain limited domain. The compound droplet consists of a single inner core that is initially concentric with the outer one. Various dimensionless parameters including Reynolds number from 1 to 50, Marangoni number from 1 to 100, droplet radius ratio from 0.3 to 0.8, and viscosity ratios from 0.1 to 6.4 are varied to reveal their influences on the migration of a compound droplet from cold to hot regions. Initially, the inner droplet moves faster than the outer one, and when the leading surface of the inner droplet touches the outer one, the inner and outer droplets migrate at the same speed. The effects of these parameters on the compound droplet eccentricity are also considered.
