A New Modulation Approach for Matrix Converter
S. Pipolo,A.Formentini,A. Trentin,P. Zanchetta,M. Calvini,M. Venturini 전력전자학회 2019 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2019 No.5
The matrix converter is an AC/AC converter constituted by an array of controlled semiconductor switches that connects directly the three-phase source to the three-phase load. The major development of matrix converters begins when Alesina and Venturini proposed the basic principles of operation in the ‘80s. In their modulation methods, through the commonmode-voltage addition technique a voltage ratio of 86.6% can be obtained. In this paper, a novel method which preserves the same voltage ratio of traditional modulations is proposed. The key concept of this approach is to use only the two closest input voltages instead of all three-phase voltages. The duties cycle are computed on the knowledge of output power demand. With this arrangement, lower switching losses in addition to better harmonic content on output current can be achieved. Hence, this paper presents a detailed mathematical treatment of new modulation approach developed for matrix converter. To validate the proposed strategy, significantly simulation results achieved in co-simulation MATLAB/SIMULINK/PLECS environment will be shown and compared with Venturini’s modulation.

The field of fashion is rapidly evolving, as it has surprisingly arisen as one of the most inclined to adopt digitalization and virtual realities to transform its business model, motivated by the apparent plethora of options and advantages that these technologies have to offer. The metaverse is one of these digital emerging trends. The aim of the present study is to investigate the context-specific consumption values associated with the use of the metaverse in fashion practices. Based on a theoretical framework rooted in the “theory of consumption values”, a qualitative study was employed. Semi-structured interviews with 13 metaverse users and professionals were conducted to derive context-specific consumption values. Our findings enrich and extend the theory of consumption values literature by redefining the five consumption values according to the metaverse usage. The five values have been identified as: utilitarianism, social identity, personification, hedonism, and personal beliefs. Technology provides and fashion brand managers can capitalize on these findings to develop new digital experiences and enhance the metaverse users’ engagement.

The first experimental study is presented of a corrugated wall device that uses wakefields to remove a linear energy correlation in a relativistic electron beam (a “dechirper”). Time-resolved measurements of both longitudinal and transverse wakefields of the device are presented and compared with simulations. This study demonstrates the feasibility to employ a dechirper for precise control of the beam phase space in the next generation of free-electron-lasers.

Excimer laser processing appears very promising to prepare at low temperature high quality polysilicon TFTs for active matrix display applications. In this work, the specific advantages of a large area (20 cm2) and long-pulse duration (200 ns) excimer source (VEL from SOPRA) both for crystallization of the silicon thin film (50 . 100 nm) on SiO2-coated glass substrates and for doping of source and drain regions of the TFT, are reviewed._?

Over the last years, additive manufacturing (AM) has been gathering momentum both in the academic and in the industrial world. Besides the obvious benefits in terms of flexibility and process capabilities, the environmental performance of such processes has still to be properly analyzed. Actually, the advantages of additive manufacturing over conventional processes are not obvious. Indeed, different manufacturing approaches result in different amounts of involved material and in different processing energy demands. Environmental comparative analyses are hence crucial to properly characterize AM processes. In this paper, an energetic comparison between the emerging wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) process and a traditional machining-from-bulk solution to produce a steel blade is presented. A methodology accounting for all the material and energy flows of the whole component life cycle is proposed. Experimental measurements and environmental databases are used to quantify the primary energy demand at each stage of the life cycle. The results reveal that, for the analyzed case study, an integrated additive (WAAM)-subtractive manufacturing route enables significant material and primary energy savings with respect to traditionally applied approaches.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate a new extracapsular surgical technique for the treatment of cranial cruciate ligament rupture in small breed dogs. Nine small breed dogs (seven females and two males) weighing ≤ 15 kg were treated with biceps femoris muscle transposition (BFT). The duration of the BFT procedure was 20 min. Each patient underwent a standard clinical protocol and a questionnaire for the owners. Follow-up (at 1, 3, and 12 months postoperative) confirmed significant improvement in all patients, especially at 1 month postoperatively (p < 0.01) and again after complete stifle joint assessment at 3 months postoperatively. After 12 months, only two patients showed a slight increase in osteoarthritis. According to our results, BFT is a simple extracapsular surgical technique that can be used for the treatment of cranial cruciate ligament rupture in small breed dogs.
Photolarvicidal effect of curcuminoids from Curcuma longa Linn. against Aedes aegypti larvae

In this study we evaluated the photolarvicidal activity of different curcuminoids forms: Natural Turmeric (NT), Synthetic Curcumin (SC) and Synthetic curcumin formulated with sucrose (SCS) against Aedes aegypti larvae which is the major vector of dengue, chikungunya and Zika viruses. Two strategies for curcuminoids delivery were chosen for the experiments: (i) larvae exposed to aqueous solutions of curcuminoids in the concentration range of 5–25 mg/L (w/v) and (ii) larvae exposed to two different types of curcuminoids carriers (pet food). Phototoxic effects of the curcuminoids were evaluated by counting the dead larvae after sunlight exposure, at irradiance range of 30–60 mW/cm 2 . The characteristic photobleaching time for each curcuminoids in solution was also determined in order to infer the safety of these molecules in the natural environment. Curcuminoids solutions showed high photolarvicidal activity after 30 min of sunlight irradiation, with LC 50 values of 20.0, 11.6 and 2.2 mg/L for NT, SC and SCS, respectively. The curcuminoids carriers, despite showing high mortality (about 90%), presented photodynamic activity only after 8 h of sunlight irradiation. The curcuminoids remained in the aqueous solution for up to 3 h; subsequently, the maximum absorption peak of these pigments was completely modified. The characteristic photobleaching time for each sample was 6, 32 and 60 min for NT, SC and SCS. These original and relevant results show that the combination of curcuminoids pigments with sunlight establishes an extremely effective alternative for Ae. aegypti larvae control, ensuring high environmental safety due to the low persistence of these molecules in the presence of light.
