Leveraging Sport Events for Tourism Development: The Event Portfolio Perspective
Vassilios Ziakas 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Journal of Global Sport Management Vol.8 No.1
Despite the increasing use of sport events in portfolios as a tourism place-making tool, academic research on this phenomenon is sparse within sport management. In response, the purpose of this theoretical contribution is to review and synthesize pertinent literature on sport events and tourism management in order to set the ground towards developing a policy framework for leveraging event portfolios and creating value for the host destination’s tourism product. To this end, an event portfolio tourism leveraging model is proposed building upon the theoretical tenets of a holistic event portfolio approach integrated with the perspectives on economic event leverage, event tourism portfolio, and destination capitals. It is argued that the proposed model can be used to more effectively integrate sport events into destination development. In doing so, the paper calls for the need to conduct more systematic, nuanced and comprehensive investigations within sport event management that will build knowledge on leveraging multiple events for obtaining multiple benefits.

Multilobular tumour of bone (MTB) is an uncommon tumour and is usually located in the skull. A 13-year-old mixed breed dog was presented with a two-week history of progressively worsening vestibular dysfunction and cognitive abnormalities; it appeared demented and showed asymmetric ataxia and hypermetria of all limbs. The owner opted to have the animal euthanised. Necropsy revealed a large mass occupying the right occipital, parietal and temporal bones, severely compressing the cerebellum and the right occipital lobe. Histologically, it was characterised by the presence of multiple lobules containing osteoid or cartilage and separated by fibrous septae, features typical of MTB. Lung metastases were evident. To our knowledge, this is the first report of an MTB causing both severe cerebral and cerebellar compression and the second detailed report of an MTB of the occipital bone. MTB should be included in the differential diagnosis of bone tumours as well as in cases with central vestibular disease.

Background: The objective of this research is the computed axial tomography (CT) imaging grading of radiation induced pneumonitis (RP) and its correlation with clinical and radiotherapeutic parameters. Materials and Methods: The chest CT films of 20 patients with non-small cell lung cancer who have undergone threedimensional conformal radiation therapy were reviewed. The proposed CT grading of RP is supported on solely radiological diagnosis criteria and distinguishes five grades. The manifestation of RP was also correlated with any positive pre-existing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) history, smoking history, the FEV1 value, and the dosimetric variable V20. Results: The CT grading of RP was as follows: 3 patients (15%) presented with ground glass opacity (grade 1), 9 patients (45%) were classified as grade 2, 7 patients (35%) presented with focal consolidation, with or without elements of fibrosis (grade 3), and only one patient (5%) presented with opacity with accompanying atelectasis and loss of pulmonary volume (grade 4). Both univariate and multivariate analysis revealed as prognostic factors for the radiological grading of RP the reduction of FEV1 and the V20 (P=0.026 and P=0.003, respectively). There was also a significant (P<0.001) correlation of radiological grading of RP with FEV1 and V20 (spearman rho 0.92 and 0.93, respectively). Conclusions: The high correlation of the proposed radiological grading with the FEV1 and the V20 is giving a satisfactory clinical validity. Although the proposed grading scale seems relevant to clinical practice, further studies are needed for the confirmation of its validity and reliability.
Male Breast Carcinoma: Epidemiology, Risk Factors and Current Therapeutic Approaches
Zygogianni, Anna G.,Kyrgias, George,Gennatas, Costantinos,Ilknur, Aytas,Armonis, Vassilios,Tolia, Maria,Papaloukas, Christos,Pistevou, Gompaki,Kouvaris, John,Kouloulias, Vassilios Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.1
Male breast cancer is a very rare disease with an incidence of about 0.5-1% comparing with the one of female breast cancer but relatively little is known about its cause. Treatment strategies for breast cancer in males are derived from studies performed among females. The probable reasons behind the frequent, late diagnoses presented at stages III or IV might be the lack of awareness. The rarity of the disease precludes large prospective randomized clinical trials. This study reviews male breast cancer and its risk factors, recommendations for diagnosis and the management of patients with male breast cancer.

Numerous technical modifications and various complications of the Senning procedure have been described in the literature. We describe the excellent clinical status and anatomic result of a 33-year-old patient who underwent a modified Senning operation using the left atrial appendage for reconstruction more than 30 years prior to presentation.
Secure Blocking + Secure Matching = Secure Record Linkage
Alexandros Karakasidis,Vassilios S. Verykios 한국정보과학회 2011 Journal of Computing Science and Engineering Vol.5 No.3
Performing approximate data matching has always been an intriguing problem for both industry and academia. This task becomes even more challenging when the requirement of data privacy rises. In this paper, we propose a novel technique to address the problem of efficient privacy-preserving approximate record linkage. The secure framework we propose consists of two basic components. First, we utilize a secure blocking component based on phonetic algorithms statistically enhanced to improve security. Second, we use a secure matching component where actual approximate matching is performed using a novel private approach of the Levenshtein Distance algorithm. Our goal is to combine the speed of private blocking with the increased accuracy of approximate secure matching.
Metal Oxide Semiconductors as Visible Light Photocatalysts
George Kiriakidis,Vassilios Binas 한국물리학회 2014 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.65 No.3
Mn-, Co-, and Mn-Co doped TiO2 ternary and quaternary semiconducting powder materialsprepared by using the co-precipitation method and fully characterized by using x-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM – EDS) and UV- visiblediffuse reflection spectroscopy were utilized for the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blueunder visible light irradiation. These materials show a red shift and absorption in the visible regiondepending on the dopant type and concentration. These materials have proven to be effective asvisible light photocatalysts.
