Rajabpour, Fatemeh Vand,Raoofian, Reza,Youssefian, Leila,Vahidnezhad, Hassan,Shahshahani, Mostafa Mirshams,Fathi, Hamidreza,Noormohammadpour, Pedram,Hesari, Kambiz Kamyab,Hashemzadeh-Chaleshtori, Mort Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.8
Background: BMI1, TWIST1 and SNAI2/SLUG have been implicated in aggressive behavior of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and melanoma and BMI1 expression could identify subtypes of Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC). However, BMI1, TWIST1 and SNAI2 expression levels in basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) have not been elucidated. We hypothesized BCC could be a good model system to decipher mechanisms which inhibit processes that drive tumor metastasis. The aim of this study was to examine the mRNA expression level of BMI1, TWIST1, and SNAI2 in BCCs. Materials and Methods: Thirty-five fresh non-metastatic BCC tissue samples and seven fresh normal skin tissue samples were evaluated by real-time RT-PCR. Results: BMI1 and TWIST1 demonstrated marked down-regulation (p<0.00l, p=0.00l respectively), but SNAI2 showed no significant change (p=0.12). Conclusions: Previous literature has clearly demonstrated a positive association between BMI1 and TWIST1 expression and metastatic BCC, aggressive SCC and melanoma. Here, we demonstrated a negative association between BMI1 and TWIST1 mRNA expression level and BCC.

Alireza Sepah Vand,Parveen Sihag,Balraj Singh,Mehran Zand 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.10
Infiltration models are very helpful in designing and evaluating surface irrigation systems. The main purpose of this study is to compare infiltration models which are used to evaluate infiltration rates of Davood Rashid, Kelat and Honam in Iran. Field infiltration tests were carried out at sixteen different locations comprising of 155 observations by use of double ring infiltrometer. The potential of four conventional infiltration models (Kostiakov, Modified Kostiakov, Novel and Philip’s models) were evaluated by least–square fitting to observed infiltration data. Three statistical comparison criteria including coefficient of correlation (C.C), coefficient of determination (R2) and root mean square error (RMSE) were used to determine the best performing infiltration models. The novel infiltration model suggests improved performance out of other three models. Further a Multi-linear Regression (MLR) equation has been developed using field infiltration data and compare with Support Vector Machine and Gaussian Process based regression with two kernels (Pearson VII and radial basis) modeling. Results suggest that Pearson VII based SVM works well than other modeling approaches in estimating the infiltration rate of soils. Sensitivity analysis concludes that the parameter, time, plays the most significant role in the estimation of infiltration rate. Comparison of results suggests that there is no significant difference between conventional and soft-computing based infiltration models.

Memaryan, Nadereh,Jolfaei, Atefeh Ghanbari,Ghaempanah, Zeinab,Shirvani, Armin,Vand, Hoda Doos Ali,Ghahari, Shahrbanoo,Bolhari, Jafar Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.9
Background: Studies have shown that a return to spirituality is a major coping response in cancer patients so that therapists can adopt a holistic approach by addressing spirituality in their patient care. The present study was conducted to develop a guideline in the spiritual field for healthcare providers who serve cancer patients in Iran. Materials and Methods: Relevant statements were extracted from scientific documents that through study questions were reviewed and modified by a consensus panel. Results: The statements were arranged in six areas, including spiritual needs assessment, spiritual care candidates, the main components of spiritual care, spiritual care providers, the settings of spiritual care and the resources and facilities for spiritual care. Conclusions: In addition to the development and preparation of these guidelines, health policy-makers should also seek to motivate and train health service providers to offer these services and facilitate their provision and help with widespread implementation.
Analytical Model and Numerical Simulation of High Level Injection in Si/SiGe HBTs
Yu, Zhi Ping,Dutton, Robert W.,Voorde, Paul Vande,Oh, Soo Young,Cottrell, Peter E. 대한전자공학회 1991 ICVC : International Conference on VLSI and CAD Vol.2 No.1
The high-level injection (FLI) behavior of Si/SiGe hetero-junction bipolar transistors (HBTs) is governed by the formation of a retarding potential barrier to the collector current flow at the base-collector junction. A quantitative, analytical model is developed to predict the barrier height dependence on the applied bias. Complete device I-V characteristics can subsequently he calculated based on this knowledge. Two-dimensional (2D) numerical simulation has also been carried out on such structure, revealing the 2D effects of the device operation. Several measures to alleviate the adverse effects of HLI on device performance are proposed.
An alternatively spliced form of Met receptor is tumorigenic
이재호,Chong Feng Gao,Chong Chou Lee,김명덕,George F. Vande Woude 생화학분자생물학회 2006 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.38 No.5
The Met tyrosine kinase receptor is a widely expressed molecule, which mediates pleiotropic celular responses following activation by its ligand, hepatocyte growth factor/scatter factor (HGF/SF). Previously, one of the authors identified an alter-natively spliced form of Met (Met-SM) that lacked a single exon of a 47-amino-acid segment in the juxtamembrane domain. Here we report that Met-SM is a potent transforming gene in NIH3T3 mouse fibroblast cells. Met-SM-transfected NIH3T3 cells show stronger foci-forming activity than wild type- Met-transfected ones. In addition, Met-SM-trans-tumorigenic in athymic nu/nu mice. Furthermore, HGF/SF significantly increases the focus-forming activity of Met-SM comparing to wild type Met. The amount of protein and of tyrosine kinase activity of Met-SM accumulates to a high level following HGF/SF treatment. The accumulation of Met-SM correlated well with its delayed ubiquitination and increased stability. These results are consistent with the important role of the juxtamembrane domain in protein stability of Met receptor and suggest that the alternatively-spliced form may contribute to the development and progression of human cancer.

Purpose: This study was performed to introduce an in vivo hybrid multimodality technique involving the coregistration of micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI) to concomitantly visualize and quantify mineralization and vascularization at follow-up in a rat model. Materials and Methods: Three adult female rats were randomly assigned as test subjects, with 1 rat serving as a control subject. For 20 weeks, the test rats received a weekly intravenous injection of 30 μg/kg zoledronic acid, and the control rat was administered a similar dose of normal saline. Bilateral extraction of the lower first and second molars was performed after 10 weeks. All rats were scanned once every 4 weeks with both micro-CT and HR-MRI. Micro-CT and HR-MRI images were registered and fused in the same 3-dimensional region to quantify blood flow velocity and trabecular bone thickness at T0 (baseline), T4 (4 weeks), T8 (8 weeks), T12 (12 weeks), T16 (16 weeks), and T20 (20 weeks). Histological assessment was the gold standard with which the findings were compared. Results: The histomorphometric images at T20 aligned with the HR-MRI findings, with both test and control rats demonstrating reduced trabecular bone vasculature and blood vessel density. The micro-CT findings were also consistent with the histomorphometric changes, which revealed that the test rats had thicker trabecular bone and smaller marrow spaces than the control rat. Conclusion: The combination of micro-CT and HR-MRI may be considered a powerful non-invasive novel technique for the longitudinal quantification of localized mineralization and vascularization
Involvement of Innate Lymphoid Cells and Dendritic Cells in a Mouse Model of Chemical-induced Asthma
Pollaris Lore,Decaesteker Tatjana,Van den Broucke Sofie,Jonckheere Anne-Charlotte,Cremer Jonathan,Verbeken Erik,Maes Tania,Devos Fien C,Vande Velde Greetje,Nemery Benoit,Hoet Peter H. M.,Vanoirbeek Je 대한천식알레르기학회 2021 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.13 No.2
Purpose: Exposure to low concentrations of toluene diisocyanate (TDI) leads to immune-mediated chemical-induced asthma. The role of the adaptive immune system has already been thoroughly investigated; nevertheless, the involvement of innate immune cells in the pathophysiology of chemical-induced asthma is still unresolved. The aim of the study is to investigate the role of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) and dendritic cells (DCs) in a mouse model for chemical-induced asthma. Methods: On days 1 and 8, BALB/c mice were dermally treated (20 μL/ear) with 0.5% TDI or the vehicle acetone olive oil (AOO; 2:3). On days 15, 17, 19, 22 and 24, the mice received an oropharyngeal challenge with 0.01% TDI or AOO (1:4). One day after the last challenge, airway hyperreactivity (AHR) to methacholine was assessed, followed by an evaluation of pulmonary inflammation and immune-related parameters, including the cytokine pattern in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, lymphocyte subpopulations of the lymph nodes and their ex vivo cytokine production profile, blood immunoglobulins and DC and ILC subpopulations in the lungs. Results: Both DC and ILC2 were recruited to the lungs after multiple airway exposures to TDI, regardless of the prior dermal sensitization. However, prior dermal sensitization with TDI alone results in AHR and predominant eosinophilic airway inflammation, accompanied by a typical type 2 helper T (Th2) cytokine profile. Conclusions: TDI-induced asthma is mediated by a predominant type 2 immune response, with the involvement of adaptive Th2 cells. However, from our study we suggest that the innate ILC2 cells are important additional players in the development of TDI-induced asthma.

Thomas F. Monaghan,Adriana M. Kavoussi,Christina W. Agudelo,Syed N. Rahman,Kyle P. Michelson,Donald L. Bliwise,Jason M. Lazar,Lori A. Birder,Upeksha S. Alwis,Johan Vande Walle,Alan J. Wein,Jerry G. Bl 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2020 International Neurourology Journal Vol.24 No.3
Purpose: Low nocturnal urine production (NUP) may be sufficient to rule out global polyuria (GP) in men. This study determines the sensitivity of indices for nocturnal polyuria (NP), defined as nocturnal polyuria index (NPi; nocturnal urine volume/24-hour urine volume) ≥0.33 or NUP ≥90 mL/hr, for detecting GP in women. Methods: Data were analyzed from 2 prospective protocols involving subjects recruited from a urology ambulatory care unit and a continence clinic. Women ≥18 years with nocturia were included if they met either of 2 common criteria for GP: (1) ≥40 mL/kg/24 hr or (2) ≥3,000 mL/24 hr. Results: Thirty-one women were included (NPi, 28.6 [21.3–40.7]; NUP, 100.8 [68.3–135.8] mL/hr). At the ≥40 mL/kg/24-hr cutoff, 40% and 63% of women reporting ≥1 nocturnal void(s) (n=30) had NPi ≥0.33 and NUP ≥90 mL/hr, respectively. Additionally, 53% and 71% of subjects reporting ≥2 nocturnal voids (n=17) had NPi ≥0.33 and NUP ≥90 mL/hr, respectively. At the ≥3,000 mL/24-hr cutoff, 38% and 69% of women reporting ≥1 nocturnal void(s) (n=13) had NPi ≥0.33 and NUP ≥90 mL/hr, respectively, and 63% and 88% of subjects reporting ≥2 nocturnal voids (n=8) had NPi ≥0.33 and NUP ≥90 mL/hr, respectively. By extension, 37%–62% of women with nocturia and GP did not have NP by NPi ≥0.33 criteria, and 12%–37% did not have NP by NUP ≥90 mL/hr criteria. Conclusions: Indices of excess nighttime urination do not reliably predict GP in women. A full-length voiding diary may be particularly important in the evaluation of women with nocturia. Nocturia in women merits further consideration as a distinct entity.
