Assessing the Links Between Anthropometrics Data and Akabane Test Results

        Valery Muzhikov,Elena Vershinina,Vadim Belenky,Ruslan Muzhikov 사단법인약침학회 2018 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.11 No.1

According to popular belief, metabolic disorders and imbalances are one of the main factors contributing to various human illnesses. Early diagnosis of these disorders is one of the main methods for preventing serious diseases. The goal of this study was to assess the correlations between main physical indicators and the activity of certain acupuncture channels using the thermal Akabane test based on ancient Chinese diagnostic methods. This test measures the pain thresholds' temperature sensitivity when a point source of heat is applied to the “entrance–exit” points of each channel. The skin temperature sensitivity in our bodies is a basic reactive system; it is as significant as such important indicators as body temperature and provides a very clear representation of functional and psychophysiological profiles. On the basis of our statistical study, we revealed reliable correspondence between the activity of certain acupuncture channels and main anthropometric and biometric data.

Comparative Assessment of the Heart’s Functioning by Using the Akabane Test and Classical Methods of Instrumental Examination

        Valery Muzhikov,Elena Vershinina,Vadim Belenky,Ruslan Muzhikov 사단법인약침학회 2017 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.10 No.3

Acupuncture physicians have studied the application of reflexotherapy to cardiology. However, no one has investigated the connection of ancient Chinese diagnostic methods with modern tools. A total of 102 patients (54 men and 48 women) with heart pathology, namely, sick-sinus syndrome, Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome, and atrioventricular blockade, were studied using the usual instrumental methods (transesophageal electrophysiological study of the heart, echocardiography), after which they underwent Akabane thermopuncture testing as in traditional Chinese medicine. The results of cardio examination from one side of the Akabane test with that from the other side were compared by means of a multiple stepwise regression analysis. We revealed the effects on the characteristic pattern of acupuncture channel lesions inherent in a definite heart pathology, i.e., the most vulnerable acupuncture channel (AC), of such factors as disturbances of the contractile, conductive, or automatic heart functions, and changes in the chambers' size or circulation volume. Сhanges in the indices of the left and the right branches of these channels usually reflect the opposing natures of the changes in these indicators, which should be considered in reflexotherapy. The main value of the Akabane test along with the use of mathematical analysis lies in early, quick, and inexpensive detection of the above-mentioned heart disturbances.

Disturbance in the Daytime Midlatitude Upper F Region Associated with a Medium Scale Electrodynamic Vortex Motion of Plasma

Valery V. Hegai,Vitaly P. Kim 한국우주과학회 2016 Journal of Astronomy and Space Sciences Vol.33 No.3

Under the assumption of the presence of a medium-scale E × B drift vortex of plasma in the daytime midlatitude F region, and using a simplified ionospheric model, we demonstrate that the E × B drift produces noticeable perturbations in the horizontal distribution of the plasma density in the upper F region. The pattern of ion density perturbations shows two separate medium scale domains of enhanced and reduced ion density with respect to the background. The E × B drift does not produce multiple small-scale ion density irregularities through plasma mixing because of the suppression effect of the field-aligned ambipolar plasma diffusion.

Thermopuncture for the Diagnosis, Monitoring, and Treatment of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

        Valery Muzhikov,Elena Vershinina,Ruslan Muzhikov,Kirill Nikitin 사단법인약침학회 2018 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.11 No.5

BackgroundType 2 diabetes (T2D) is a socially significant disease that affects millions of patients. There were an estimated 366 million people with this disease in 2011, and, according to the forecast, approximately 552 million will be affected by this disease in 2030. It is well known that the primary diagnosis and treatment of a patient with this disease are quite expensive. What should be done to make it possible for a patient to monitor his own state and provide treatment in his own home using telemedicine? To solve this problem, an alternative concept for the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment at the basis of traditional Chinese medicine combined with mathematical methods of data processing has been used. Methods/DesignTo assess the pattern thresholds of acupuncture channels of heat sensitivity in patients with T2D, the Akabane test was performed on 160 men and 243 women (total 696 tests), including the dynamics of surveillance. For comparison, a group of healthy individuals comprising 116 men and 277 women also participated. ResultsIt was found that the main difference between patients with T2D and the healthy individuals is the presence of a pronounced asymmetry between the right and left branches of the canals, primarily in the digestive system. At the same time, the level of asymmetry increases with the increase in the glycemic level. This dependence allows for the early diagnosis of T2D. Moreover, a targeted stimulation of the definite channels with a high level of asymmetry based on the individual calculations can decrease the glycemic level. ConclusionThe combination of the Akabane test with the use of mathematical analysis in patients with T2D makes it possible to trace the entire chain of carbohydrate metabolism at an individual level and to identify the compensatory mechanisms for more effective treatment of reflexotherapy methods. This kind of treatment and monitoring can also be performed by the patient independently in his own home.

        MINISO: The Miniso Experience

Valery Alexandra Delgado Velásquez,Angelly Nayelli Fernández Bellodas,José Carlos Feliciano Nishikawa Academy of Asian Business (AAB) 2021 Academy of Asian Business Review Vol.7 No.2

This MINISO was founded at the end of 2013 as a Japanese-inspired lifestyle products retailer offering high-quality household items, cosmetics, and food at affordable prices. In such a short time, MINISO became a famous global brand. However, the firm is now at a critical stage, where it still must face the challenges that lie ahead after the ravages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This case study dives into the history of MINISO and attempts to explain why its business model has been successful. In addition to determining its competitive advantages, marketing strategies and other factors that have helped the company overcome several obstacles along its journey around the world. It will also help better understand differences between international markets and how the brand adapted to the public's requirements, especially to win the Latin American population's hearts, as evidenced by its rapid positioning in the region. For this purpose, this study can be divided into four parts. The first part explains what MINISO is and the business model that has allowed the company to expand globally. The second part analyzes the obstacles that the company has overcome to develop its strengths across its history. The third part will delve into success factors, the "heart of the brand”, allowing the company to connect with consumers worldwide. Finally, the last part describes the challenges that the firm must face to remain competitive in such an uncertain environment.

      • Standing on Your Own Two Feet: An Examination of Singaporean Trainee Teachers’ Perceptions of the Primary-To-Secondary School Transition

( Valery Tay ),( Michael Hast ) 경북대학교 중등교육연구소 2022 Asia Pacific Journal of Educational Research Vol.5 No.2

Every year, around 40,000 Singaporean adolescents transition from primary to secondary school. This transfer can often be a challenging experience for students and it is therefore crucial to understand how to support them during this period. Yet while several studies examining student experiences of this transition and how they can be supported are available, the opportunities to apply them to the Singapore context are limited. As a result, the present small-scale qualitative interview study sought to investigate seven Singaporean trainee teachers’ perceptions of the primary-to-secondary school transitioning experience and the role they play in it. The findings revealed that post-transition students are frequently perceived as immature, that teachers have high expectations - which may form part of an unspoken teacher culture - and that they recognise the need to foster a sense of autonomy. The interaction of these themes and the possible contradictions among them may impede students’ successful transition. Forms of teacher support were also identified. The findings are used to articulate recommendations on how the primary-to-secondary transition can be successfully bridged through more targeted help.

Ionospheric F2-layer Perturbations Observed After the M8.8 Chile Earthquake on February 27, 2010, at Long Distance from the Epicenter

        Valery V. Hegai,Vitaly P. Kim,Anna D. Legen’ka 한국우주과학회 2017 Journal of Astronomy and Space Sciences Vol.34 No.1

The F2-layer critical frequency (foF2) data from several ionosondes are employed to study the long-distance effect of the M8.8 Chile Earthquake of February 27, 2010, on the F2 layer. Significant perturbations of the peak F2-layer electron density have been observed following the earthquake at two South African stations, Hermanus and Madimbo, which are located at great circle distances of ~8,000 and ~10,000 km from the earthquake epicenter, respectively. Simplified estimates demonstrate that the observed ionospheric perturbations can be caused by a long-period acoustic gravity wave produced in the F-region by the earthquake.

Method for assessing the effect of crack-like defects on the performance of high-pressure cylinders

Valery V. Spiryagin 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.6

The paper presents the results of verification calculation on the crack resistance of a high-pressure cylinder taken out of service due to the detection of crack-like defect. The critical dimensions of cracks, at which brittle failure of the cylinder can occur, and the safety coefficient of the cylinder in terms of crack resistance, are determined. Based on the provisions of linear fracture mechanics, back in the XIX century it was established that the causes of the failure of high-strength materials are crack-like defects of the operational or the technological origin. The causes of these defects can be operational impacts (vibration, cyclic loading and aggressive environments) and design and technological factors (welding, rolling, heat treatment, etc.). One of the actual problems of theoretical and experimental research of reliability of structural materials in industrial equipment is to study influence of the internal and the surface semi-elliptic cracks on safety of their operation.
