Fragile X Mental Retardation Protein in Learning-Related Synaptic Plasticity

        Valentina Mercaldo,Giannina Descalzi,민쭈오 한국분자세포생물학회 2009 Molecules and cells Vol.28 No.6

Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is caused by a lack of the fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP) due to silencing of the Fmr1 gene. As an RNA binding protein, FMRP is thought to contribute to synaptic plasticity by regulating plasticity-related protein synthesis and other signaling pathways. Previous studies have mostly focused on the roles of FMRP within the hippocampus - a key structure for spatial memory. However, recent studies indicate that FMRP may have a more general contribution to brain functions, in-cluding synaptic plasticity and modulation within the pre-frontal cortex. In this brief review, we will focus on recent studies reported in the prefrontal cortex, including the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). We hypothesize that al-terations in ACC-related plasticity and synaptic modula-tion may contribute to various forms of cognitive deficits associated with FXS.

      • CAN YOU JUDGE THE BOOK BY ITS COVER? ANTECEDENTS AND CONSEQUENCES OF BRAND ENGAGEMENT IN SELF CONCEPT

        Valentina Mazzoli,Diletta Acuti,Raffaele Donvito 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2017 Global Fashion Management Conference Vol.2017 No.07

The current research aims to shed light on consumer-brand relationship, adopting the self-determination theory as theoretical lens for defining the antecedents and the consequences of the Brand Engagement in Self Concept (Sprott, Czellar, & Spangenberg, 2009). The originality of the study stems in the contest of analysis, that is the international cosplayer community, given the extreme engagement manifestation of the actors of the community in comics characters. Thus, the goal of this study is to test a model previously proposed by Razmus, Jaroszy?ska, & Pal?ga (2017) in a community of high engagement manifestations, that is the cosplayer community (e.g. dress-up as their own favourite character). Moreover, authors would like to introduce a novel variable that is the brand-self congruity (Aaker, 1997; Sirgy, 1982), able to influence the relationship between personal aspirations (Kasser and Ryan, 1993; 1996), brand engagement in self-concept, brand advocacy (Kim et al. 2001) and brand loyalty (Oliver, 1999).

      • ASSESSING ONLINE BRAND EXPERIENCE THROUGH CONSUMER BRAND ENGAGEMENT BEHAVIOR

        Valentina Mazzoli,Raffaele Donvito,Laura Grazzini 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2017 Global Fashion Management Conference Vol.2017 No.07

This study aims at identifying a novel framework that further explains the relationship between brands and customers in the online context at different touchpoints (e.g. social media, website) of the customer journey. In pursuing this goal, authors expect online brand experience as the main trigger in determining specific customer brand engagement (CBE) behaviours.

Increasing Incidence of Thyroid Carcinoma: Risk Factors and Seeking Approaches for Primary Prevention

        Valentina Drozd,Daniel I. Branovan,Christoph Reiners 대한갑상선학회 2020 International Journal of Thyroidology Vol.13 No.2

Based on opinions published by many scientists about the increase in the incidence of thyroid cancer in manycountries, this paper intends to identify research to be done on one hand with respect to reasons for this increase, the natural course of thyroid cancer and risk factors and - on the other hand - to support the clinician in primaryprevention of thyroid cancer. Along with the traditionally discussed risk factors: ethnicity, heredity, sexeffects/hormones, comorbidity, radiation exposure, diet (iodine), life-style (smoking), features of the naturalenvironment, the effect of endocrine disrupters and in particular nitrates are also discussed. For the clinician, asimple approach for primary prevention of thyroid cancer is to refer the patient for a radiological examinationapplying ionizing radiation with exposure of the head and neck region only if the indication is justified accordingto the International Committee for Radiological Protection. In clinical practice, it is also important to take intoaccount and minimize other risk factors: prevention of obesity and weight reduction, adequate treatment ofvarious thyroid diseases, avoidance of excessive consumption of nitrates and other endocrine disruptors/environmental pollutants. In case of a nuclear emergency, attention has to be paid for immediate withdrawalof contaminated food and drink as well as iodine thyroid blocking especially in vulnerable members of thepopulation as children, pregnant or breastfeeding women. More research is also required to identify other reasonsof the increasing incidence and predictors of aggressive vs indolent behavior of thyroid cancer to avoid unnecessaryscreening activity, overdiagnosis, and overtreatment.

Coronavirus epitope prediction from highly conserved region of spike protein

Valentina Yurina 대한백신학회 2020 Clinical and Experimental Vaccine Research Vol.9 No.2

Purpose: The aim of this research was to predict the epitope for coronavirus family spike protein. Coronavirus family is highly evolved viruses which cause several outbreaks in the past decades. Therefore, it is crucial to design a global vaccine candidate to prevent the coronavirus outbreak in the future. Materials and Methods: The spike protein amino acid sequences from nine coronavirus family were searched in the Uniprot database. The spike protein sequences were aligned using Clustal method. The highly conservatives amino acids were analyzed its B cell linear and continuous epitopes and T cell epitopes. Results: From the alignment results it was found that there is a highly conserved region in the extracellular domain of spike protein. With prediction methods from this highly conserved region, B cell and T cell epitopes from spike protein were derived. Conclusion: From several different prediction results, B cell epitope and T cell epitope were identified in the highly conserved region thus it is promising to be developed as a coronavirus vaccine candidate.

      • Simulation of Landslides Impact on the Building

        ( Valentina Burova ) 대한지질공학회 2019 대한지질공학회 학술발표회논문집 Vol.2019 No.2

In Russian Federation more than 50% of the cities are located in the landslides-prone areas. The paper describes the results of landslides simulation on buildings with application of Automatic Design System PLAXIS 3D, which allows an additional subsidence of basements and foundations to be estimated when exposed to landslides. Two principle schemes have been analyzed. The first one, the landslide is localized above the object along the slope and acts on it from the outside. The second one, the landslide is formed within the compressible thickness of the object basement. On the whole, 17 variants of computations have been made taking into account different impact schemes and buildings’ basements. The results of simulation have been compared with maximum permissible additional deformations for buildings of different structural types and their states. Analysis of the simulation results showed the excess of permissible additional subsidence is typical for the second scheme when the landslide is located within the compressible thickness of the concrete frame building basement with column foundation. For this case, the curves of relationship between of additional subsidence of basements and landslides of various sizes were constructed. This study was supported by the Russian Science Foundation, project no. 16-17-00125

Specialization and Exports in South America after Trade Agreements

( Valentina Viego ),( Virginia Corbella ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2017 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.32 No.2

A vast body of literature recognizes that economic integration brings asymmetric benefits for the actors carrying out the process. Regional integration agreements influence the level of industrial activity and its location, preventing some countries from fully participating as beneficiaries. This study aims to examine the changes in production and export structures of South American manufacturing sector after the signing of trade agreements. We performed unit root tests with endogenous breaks, cointegration tests, and stochastic frontier models on production and export for the period 1985~2008. Our results show that after the signing of trade agreements, changes in the structure of production and export have been weak, and thus trade agreements have not boosted structural changes in specialization and export intensity in South American countries.

DNA Damage in the Gill Cells of the Marine Scallop Mizuhopecten yessoensis during Anoxic Stress and Aerobic Recovery

        Valentina V. Slobodskova,Avianna F. Zhukovskaya,Victor P. Chelomin 한국해양과학기술원 2012 Ocean science journal Vol.47 No.2

Anoxia-induced DNA damage in the gill cells of the marine scallop Mizuhopecten yessoensis was assessed with the alkaline comet assay (single-cell gel electrophoresis). The alkaline comet assay method for detecting DNA strand breaks and alkali labile sites in individual cells. DNA damage was determened in the scallops (M. yessoensis) gill cells. The scallops were exposed to air for 8 h showing a clear increase in the levels of DNA damage. After the air exposure, M. yessoensis were re-submersed for a period of 12 h, leading values to return to a pre-aerial exposure level. Control animals were kept immersed during the whole period. The resulting data demonstrate that natural influences, such as oxygen depletion (anoxia) in seawater, can be responsible for the induction of DNA damage. If the scallops were re-immersed in oxic conditions, the anoxically induced breaks were repaired. The main mechanisms influencing the integrity of the DNA structure are discussed in this paper.
