WOULD MARKETING SCIENCE BE STRONGER HAD IT BEEN LESS FREQUENTIST?
Vinicius Andrade Brei,Jaiany Rocha Trindade 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07
This study aims to evaluate the level of reproducibility of the marketing field. The research is motivated because many significant published research findings in various scientific areas, including marketing, have been found to be false or only partially replicable, a phenomenon labelled Reproducibility Crisis. This crisis is partly due to the strong overreliance on frequentist statistics and the misuse and misinterpretation of p-values in the Null Hypothesis Significance Testing (NHST) framework. This study offers two main contributions: first, it develops a methodological, quantitative evaluation of the most-cited published papers in marketing history in its four top journals, creating an overall index of marketing science reproducibility. Second, it analyzes how misuse and misinterpretation of p-values and frequentist statistics have undermined marketing science's reproducibility and discusses possible solutions for these problems. We selected a representative sample of the marketing literature, screening the papers using hierarchical classification criteria and the Web of Science (WoS) database to select the most-cited papers.

This work aims to evaluate the punching shear carrying capacity of flat slabs of reinforced concrete added with different amounts of steel fibers and varying the rectangularity index of columns under symmetrical loading. The addition of steel fiber provide higher load-carrying capacity. However, the column rectangularity index tends to lower that load-carrying capacity for magnitudes beyond 1.5 for the tested slabs. Nine models were tested with dimensions of 1,800 × 1,800 mm and 130 mm height varying the amount of added fiber (0, 50 and 60 kg/m) and the index of rectangularity (1.0, 1.5 e 2.0). From the results, the load carrying capacity, the vertical displacement, and the crack patterns were obtained. In addition, the results were compared with other similar studies and analytical models for steel fiber. The addition of steel fibers showed to be effective in increasing the punching shear load carrying capacity, it leads to a higher number of cracks and higher vertical displacements. Regarding the rectangularity index, for those tested slabs which was below 1.5, the load carrying capacity of punching shear of the slabs increases. However, for slabs above 1.5, it was observed that the punching shear load carrying capacity decreases.
USING A HEAT PUMP AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO SUPPORT SOLAR COLLECTOR FOR WATER HEATING IN BRAZIL
ROBERTS VINICIUS DE MELO REIS,RAPHAEL NUNES OLIVEIRA,LUIZ MACHADO,RICARDO NICOLAU NASSAR KOURY 대한설비공학회 2012 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.20 No.3
With related greenhouse e®ect environmental issues linked to the constant problems of the °uctuations in oil prices, the use of solar energy is an important renewable energy source. Brazil is a country which is privileged considering the high rates of solar irradiation present throughout almost the entire national territory. Nevertheless, during certain times of the year, there is a solar energy de¯cit, which leads solar systems to require electrical resistance support at these times. The use of electrical resistance represents 23.5% of electric energy consumption and it presents a low residential energy e±ciency. The purpose of this work is an alternative technical design for reduction of electric energy consumption through the use of a solar energy system together with a generating heat pump for water heaters for households, as well as the ¯nancial feasibility study on the use of this system. One such heat pump has been designed, constructed and tested experimentally. The average performance coe±cient is equal to 2.10, a low value due to the use of a hermetic reciprocating compressor. Despite this low moderate price coe±cient of acquisition and installation of a heat pump, one can allow a return on investment in from 2.1 to 3.3 years, whereas the equipment has a useful life of about 20 years, this period of return on investment is interesting.
A Computer Vision System for Pallets Verification in Quality Control
Marcus Vinicius Barbosa de Morais,Sara Dereste dos Santos,Ricardo Pires 한국정밀공학회 2023 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.24 No.7
Flexible manufacturing systems have gained their place in industries thanks to the possibility of being adapted to a particular task. A robotized palletizing cell is an example of such a system, which is responsible for organizing and stacking loads to be transported. A key part in this process is the pallet and if it presents a problem, the whole cell may stop. Furthermore, it is possible that manipulator robots, transported loads, and any other part of the cell suffer damage. To avoid these problems, the objective of this work is to develop an artificial vision system capable of selecting wood pallets that are in good condition, which means free of defects such as splinters, cracks and broken or out of dimensions elements. The artificial vision system has been developed based on image processing and machine learning techniques and presented better results compared to the past studies. Image processing parameters of Canny and Hough Transform have been adjusted, followed by comparisons among Support-Vector Machines with different kernels and their parameters. An accuracy of 100% in the classification has been obtained based on the Support-Vector Machine with radial basis function kernel.

In this paper, to optimize the average delay and power allocation (PA) for system users, we propose a resource scheduling scheme for wireless networks based on Cyclic Prefix Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (CP-OFDM) according to the first fifth-generation standards. For delay minimization, we solve a throughput maximization problem that considers CPOFDM systems with carrier aggregation (CA). Regarding PA, we consider an approach that involves maximizing goodput using an effective signal-to-noise ratio. An algorithm for jointly solving delay minimization through computation of required user rates and optimizing the power allocated to users is proposed to compose the resource allocation approach. In wireless network simulations, we consider a scenario with the following capabilities: CA, 256-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation, millimeter waves above 6 GHz, and a radio frame structure with 120 KHz spacing between the subcarriers. The performance of the proposed resource allocation algorithm is evaluated and compared with those of other algorithms from the literature using computational simulations in terms of various Quality of Service parameters, such as the throughput, delay, fairness index, and loss rate.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to apply a newly developed free software program, at low cost and with minimal time, to evaluate the quality of dental and maxillofacial cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Materials and Methods: A polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) phantom, CQP-IFBA, was scanned in 3 CBCT units with 7 protocols. A macro program was developed, using the free software ImageJ, to automatically evaluate the image quality parameters. The image quality evaluation was based on 8 parameters: uniformity, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), noise, the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), spatial resolution, the artifact index, geometric accuracy, and low-contrast resolution. Results: The image uniformity and noise depended on the protocol that was applied. Regarding the CNR, highdensity structures were more sensitive to the effect of scanning parameters. There were no significant differences between SNR and CNR in centered and peripheral objects. The geometric accuracy assessment showed that all the distance measurements were lower than the real values. Low-contrast resolution was influenced by the scanning parameters, and the 1-mm rod present in the phantom was not depicted in any of the 3 CBCT units. Smaller voxel sizes presented higher spatial resolution. There were no significant differences among the protocols regarding artifact presence. Conclusion: This software package provided a fast, low-cost, and feasible method for the evaluation of image quality parameters in CBCT.
Pluripotency of Stem Cells from Human Exfoliated Deciduous Teeth for Tissue Engineering
Rosa, Vinicius,Dubey, Nileshkumar,Islam, Intekhab,Min, Kyung-San,Nö,r, Jacques E. Hindawi Publishing Corporation 2016 Stem cells international Vol.2016 No.-

Stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) are highly proliferative pluripotent cells that can be retrieved from primary teeth. Although SHED are isolated from the dental pulp, their differentiation potential is not limited to odontoblasts only. In fact, SHED can differentiate into several cell types including neurons, osteoblasts, adipocytes, and endothelial cells. The high plasticity makes SHED an interesting stem cell model for research in several biomedical areas. This review will discuss key findings about the characterization and differentiation of SHED into odontoblasts, neurons, and hormone secreting cells (e.g., hepatocytes and islet-like cell aggregates). The outcomes of the studies presented here support the multipotency of SHED and their potential to be used for tissue engineering-based therapies.

Francio Vinicius Tieppo,Wie Christopher S.,Murphy Micheal T.,Neal Matthew T.,Lyons Mark K.,Gibbs Wende N.,Strand Natalie H. 대한마취통증의학회 2022 Anesthesia and pain medicine Vol.17 No.2
Background: Intradural disc herniation (IDH) is a very rare and challenging diagnosis, with an estimated incidence of less than 1.5%. The pathogenesis of IDH remains uncertain. Definitive management remains surgical; however, some cases may initially be managed non-surgically. Case: A middle-aged male with presented with acute right-sided lumbar radiculopathy following heavy lifting. History was significant for prior lumbar disc herniation managed non-surgically. Lumbar MRI demonstrated a large disc herniation. The patient was initially treated non-surgically with epidural steroid injections. At 4-months, he re-injured and follow-up images demonstrated the herniated disc penetrating the dura and the diagnosis of intradural disc herniation. Conclusions: The present case is rare because the IDH occurred at the L3-4 level and resulted in unilateral radiculopathy without cauda-equina symptoms and occurred in the absence of prior surgery. This patient was initially treated non-surgically with satisfactory relief, however, reinjury led to progression of IDH with new neurological deficits necessitating surgery.
