The Relationship Between Self-confidence and Academic Commitment of AB-ELS Students in Learning Korean Language in an Online Class Setting Jeremy C. DeGuzman,* Kim M. andrea Reyes,** Kyla Niicole G. Cruz,*** & Jiyoung Lee**** Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the Self-confidence and Academic Commitment of students learning Korean online. The subjects of this study were 86 4th year students of AB ELS who participated in online Korean language classes. In this study, analysis data were collected through an online questionnaire of self-confidence and academic commitment. For analysis, using SPSS 23.0, descriptive statistics and correlation analysis were performed. The research results are as follows. First, the students’ self-confidence was found to be neither agree nor disagree. Second, students’ academic commitment was slightly disagreed. Third, it was found that there was a significant positive correlation between students’ self-confidence and academic commitment. Based on the results of this study, methods to enhance the academic commitment of students learning Korean online were discussed. The primary purpose of the present study was to test the hypothesis that two general developmentally based levels of hypothesis-testing skills exist. The first hypothesized level presumably involves skills associated with testing hypotheses about observable causal agents; the second presumably involves skills associated with testing hypotheses involving unobservable entities. To test this hypothesis, a hypothesis-testing skills test was developed and administered to a large sample of college students both at the start and at the end of a biology course in which several hypotheses at each level were generated and tested. The predicted positive relationship between level of hypothesis-testing skill and performance on a transfer problem involving the test of a hypothesis involving unobservable entities was found. The predicted positive relationship between level of hypothesis-testing skill and course performance was also found. Both theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed. ⓒ 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Res Sci Teach 37: 81-101, 2000
Metabolic, Metallic and Mitotic Sources of Oxidative Stress in Alzheimer Disease
Smith, Mark A.,Zhu, Xiongwei,Nunomura, Akihiko,Raina, Arun K.,Rottkamp, Catherine A.,Takeda , Atsushi,Perry, George 한림대학교 환경·생명과학연구소 2000 [일송 국제심포지엄] 노화와 만성퇴행성 신경질환 Vol.- No.3
Alzheimer disease (AD) is marked by increases in oxidative damage to macromolecules such as sugars, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Notably, such damage is not limited to the lesions of the disease but instead involves all vulnerable neurons. These findings of oxidative abnormalities clearly predate gross described neuronal cytopathology and support the primacy of oxidative damage as an early and dynamic change of AD. Here, we review possible sources of oxidative damage as it applies to AD. Contrary to in vitro findings, correlations between cases with various extents of amyloid-β deposits or neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) show that oxidative damage is in fact reduced with increasing senile plaque and neurofibrillary tangle density (Nunomura et al., 1999a). for amyloid-β, there is a direct negative linear correlation with oxidative damage (Nunomura et al., 1999b). These findings indicate that the formation of the amyloid-β plaques and NFT, long thought of as a deleterious process leading to neuronal death, may in fact be a cytoprotective response (Morsch et al.,1999) to reduce oxidative damage.
Portal Vein Thrombosis in Minimal Change Disease
Gyuri Kim,Gyuri Kim,Su Jin Heo,Yoen Kyung Kee,Seung Hyeok Han 이화여자대학교 의과학연구소 2014 EMJ (Ewha medical journal) Vol.37 No.2
Among the possible venous thromboembolic events in nephrotic syndrome, renal vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are common, while portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is rare. This report describes a 26-year-old man with histologically proven minimal change disease (MCD) complicated by PVT. The patient presented with epigastric pain and edema. He had been diagnosed with MCD five months earlier and achieved complete remission with corticosteroids, which were discontinued one month before the visit. Full-blown relapsing nephrotic syndrome was evident on laboratory and clinical findings, and an abdominal computed tomography revealed PVT. He immediately received immunosuppressants and anticoagulation therapy. An eight-week treatment resulted in complete remission, and a follow-up abdominal ultrasonography showed disappearance of PVT. In conclusion, PVT is rare and may not be easily diagnosed in patients with nephrotic syndrome suffering from abdominal pain. Early recognition of this rare complication and prompt immunosuppression and anticoagulation therapy are encouraged to avoid a fatal outcome.
Economic Integration and Firm-Union Interaction : The Role of Market Structure
Fung, K. C.,Huizinga, Harry 세종대학교 국제경제연구소 1999 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.14 No.4
This paper examines the impact of market integration in the presence of a labor union. Effects on wages, employment, product price, firm profits, and union rents are analyzed. Both the theoretical model as well as numerical simulations show the importance of factors such as the product demand elasticity, the number of firms, the degree of product differentiation, and the nature of competition in the goods market. One surprising result is that union wages and union rents can increase in the presence of market integration. (JFL Classifications: F10, F12, F15)
