저분자 유기산에 의한 중금속 오염토양의 복원

        정의덕,원미숙,윤장희,이병호,백우현,Gardella, Joseph A. 한국환경과학회 2001 한국환경과학회지 Vol.10 No.4

For the remediation of the contaminated soil with heavy metals, Cd, Cr, Cu, and Pb, the reaction parameters were optimized. Tartaric acid (TA) and oxalic acid(OA) as a washing agent were evaluated as a function of concentration, reaction time, mixing ratio of washing agent and recovery of metals. The optimum washing conditions of TA and OA were in the ratio of 1 : 20 between soil and acid solution during 2 hr reaction under unbuffered pH solutions. At the optimized reaction conditions, the removal efficiencies were compared with that of 0.1 M HC1 and ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid(EDTA). TA showed higher efficiency on the removal of Pb than that of EDTA, which established for the remediation of contaminated soil with Pb and Cd metals. The recovery of metal ions from washing solution was achieved by adding calcium hydroxide and sodium sulfide by forming the precipitation of metal hydroxide and metal sulfide. Optimum amounts of sodium sulfide and calcium hydroxide were Cd = 25g/ℓ, Cu = 5∼10g/ℓ and Pb = 5∼10g/ℓ for the washing solution of OA and 2∼5g/ℓ for the washing solution of TA, respectively. The amounts of Na_2S and Ca(OH)_2 for the tartaric acid was less than that of oxalic acid.

Application of the Sleep C.A.L.M. Tool for Assessing Nocturia in a Large Nationally Representative Cohort

        Joseph U. Boroda,Benjamin De Leon,Lakshay Khosla,Muchi D. Chobufo,Syed N. Rahman,Jason M. Lazar,Jeffrey P. Weiss,Thomas F. Monaghan 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2024 International Neurourology Journal Vol.28 No.-

Purpose: Nocturia significantly impacts patients’ quality of life but remains insufficiently evaluated and treated. The “Sleep C.A.L.M.” system categorizes the factors thought to collectively reflect most underlying causes of nocturia (Sleep disorders, Comorbidities, Actions [i.e., modifiable patient behaviors such as excess fluid intake], Lower urinary tract dysfunction, and Medications). The purpose of this study was to assess the association of nocturia with the Sleep C.A.L.M. categories using a nationally representative dataset. Methods: Retrospective analysis of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2013/14–2017/18 cycles was conducted. Pertinent questionnaire, laboratory, dietary, and physical examination data were used to ascertain the presence of Sleep C.A.L.M. categories in adults ≥20 years of age. Nocturia was defined as ≥2 nighttime voids. Results: A total of 12,274 included subjects were included (51.6% female; median age, 49.0 years [interquartile range, 34.0–62.0 years]; 27.6% nocturia). Among subjects with nocturia, the prevalence of 0, ≥1, and ≥2 Sleep C.A.L.M. categories was 3.5% (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.8%–4.4%), 96.5% (95% CI, 95.6%–97.2%), and 81.2% (95% CI, 78.9%–83.3%), respectively. Compared to those with 0–1 Sleep C.A.L.M. categories, the adjusted odds of nocturia in subjects with 2, 3, and 4–5 Sleep C. A.L.M. categories were 1.77 (95% CI, 1.43–2.21), 2.33 (1.89–2.87), and 3.49 (2.81–4.35), respectively (P<0.001). Similar trends were observed for most age and sex subgroups. When assessed individually, each of the 5 Sleep C.A.L.M. categories were independently associated with greater odds of nocturia, which likewise persisted across multiple age and sex subgroups. Conclusions: Sleep C.A.L.M. burden is associated with increased odds of nocturia in a dose-dependent fashion, and potentially a relevant means by which to organize the underlying etiologies for nocturia among community-dwelling adults.

Isolated Non-Compaction of the Left Ventricle in a Patient with New-Onset Heart Failure: Morphologic and Functional Evaluation with Cardiac Multidetector Computed Tomography

이헌,김석연,U. Joseph Schoepf 대한영상의학회 2012 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.13 No.2

We describe a case of new-onset heart failure in a patient in whom cardiac CT enabled the non-invasive diagnosis of isolated non-compaction and associated functional abnormalities of the left ventricle with the concomitant evaluation of coronary arteries. This case highlights the utility of cardiac CT for the morphological and functional evaluation of the heart as a single imaging modality.

Impact of Aging on Urinary Natriuretic Peptides in Nocturia and Nocturnal Polyuria

        Lakshay Khosla,Joseph U. Boroda,Joshua Salama,Syed N. Rahman,Danielle J. Gordon,Matthew W. Moy,Yonatan Akivis,Alla Akivis,Jason M. Lazar,Jeffrey P. Weiss,Lori A. Birder 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2022 International Neurourology Journal Vol.26 No.2

Purpose: The pathophysiology of nocturia and nocturnal polyuria (NP), conditions that become more prevalent with aging, may in part be explained by changes in hormones involved in water homeostasis. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of aging on urinary natriuretic peptides in nocturia and NP. Methods: Patients aged ≥18 years completed 24-hour bladder diaries for assessment of nocturia and NP. They were divided into subgroups of ≥65 years old and <65 years old. Urine samples were collected and analyzed for natriuretic peptide (NTproANP, NT-proBNP, and NT-proCNP) levels. Peptide levels were compared between patients with and without nocturia/NP and within age subgroups; correlation to the NP index (NPi) was determined. Results: Compared to patients without nocturia (N=15), patients with nocturia (N=36) had higher median levels of urinary NT-proANP (15.8 pmol/mmol Cr vs. 10.9 pmol/mmol Cr, P=0.016) and NT-proBNP (6.3 pmol/mmol Cr vs. 4.5 pmol/mmol Cr, P=0.021), but showed no differences in NT-proCNP (2.4 pmol/mmol Cr vs. 2.5 pmol/mmol Cr, P=0.967). Patients ≥65 years old with nocturia had higher NT-proANP (29.8 pmol/mmol Cr vs. 11.0 pmol/mmol Cr, P<0.001) and NT-proBNP (9.6 pmol/mmol Cr vs. 5.0 pmol/mmol Cr, P<0.001) than patients <65 years old. Additionally, patients with NP (N=30) showed higher urinary NT-proANP (19.6 pmol/mmol Cr vs. 10.5 pmol/mmol Cr, P<0.001) and NT-proBNP (6.7 pmol/mmol Cr vs. 4.7 pmol/mmol Cr, P=0.020) compared to patients without NP (N=21). NP patients ≥65 years had higher NT-proANP (29.8 pmol/mmol Cr vs. 12.5 pmol/mmol Cr, P<0.001) and NT-proBNP (9.6 pmol/mmol Cr vs. 4.4 pmol/mmol Cr, P=0.004) than patients <65 years old. NPi positively correlated with urinary NT-proANP (RS=0.417, P=0.002) and NT-proBNP (RS=0.303, P=0.031), but not with NT-proCNP (RS=-0.094, P=0.510). Conclusions: Since urinary NT-proANP and NT-proBNP were greater in aged patients with nocturia and NP, natriuretic peptides may contribute to the pathophysiology of these conditions and further research should aim to explore them as targets for management.

Herpesvirus Saimiri STP-A Oncoprotein Utilizes Src Family Protein Tyrosine Kinase and Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor-Associated Factors To Elicit Cellular Signal Transduction

        Garcia, Maria I.,Kaserman, Joseph,Chung, Young-Hwa,Jung, Jae U.,Lee, Sun-Hwa American Society for Microbiology 2007 Journal of virology Vol.81 No.6

<B>ABSTRACT</B><P>The saimiri transforming protein oncogene, called STP-A, of herpesvirus saimiri (HVS) subgroup A is not required for viral replication but is required for lymphoid cell immortalization in culture and lymphoma induction in primates. Here we report that STP-A interacts with cellular tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factors (TRAF2 and TRAF6) and Src family protein tyrosine kinases (SF-PTKs) in a genetically and functionally separable manner and that each interaction constitutively elicits independent cellular signal transduction. The amino-terminal and central proline-rich motifs of STP-A were responsible for TRAF6 and TRAF2 interactions, respectively, and STP-A and TRAF6 interaction contributed to the majority of NF-κB activation, whereas STP-A and TRAF2 interaction played a minor role in NF-κB activation. On the other hand, interaction of STP-A with SF-PTKs through its SH2 binding motif effectively elicited AP-1 and NF-AT transcription factor activity. One cellular gene targeted by STP-A is intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), which participates in a wide range of inflammatory and immune responses. Both TRAF and SF-PTK signal transductions induced by STP-A were required for the marked increase of ICAM-1 expression. These results demonstrate that the viral oncogene STP-A independently targets two vital cellular signaling molecules and that these activities likely contribute to HVS-mediated lymphoid cell immortalization in culture and lymphoma induction in primates.</P>

Tube Voltage, DNA Double-Strand Breaks, and Image Quality in Coronary CT Angiography

        Lin Zhu Xiao,Zhou Fan,Schoepf U. Joseph,Pillai Balakrishnan,Zhou Chang Sheng,Quan Wei,Bao Xue Qin,Lu Guang Ming,Zhang Long Jiang 대한영상의학회 2020 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.21 No.8

Objective: To evaluate the effects of tube voltage on image quality in coronary CT angiography (CCTA), the estimated radiation dose, and DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) in peripheral blood lymphocytes to optimize the use of CCTA in the era of low radiation doses. Materials and Methods: This study included 240 patients who were divided into 2 groups according to the DNA DSB analysis methods, i.e., immunofluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. Each group was subdivided into 4 subgroups: those receiving CCTA only with different tube voltages of 120, 100, 80, or 70 kVp. Objective and subjective image quality was evaluated by analysis of variance. Radiation dosages were also recorded and compared. Results: There was no significant difference in demographic characteristics between the 2 groups and 4 subgroups in each group (all p > 0.05). As tube voltage decreased, both image quality and radiation dose decreased gradually and significantly. After CCTA, γ-H2AX foci and mean fluorescence intensity in the 120-, 100-, 80-, and 70-kVp groups increased by 0.14, 0.09, 0.07, and 0.06 foci per cell and 21.26, 9.13, 8.10, and 7.13 (all p < 0.05), respectively. The increase in the DNA DSB level in the 120-kVp group was higher than those in the other 3 groups (all p < 0.05), while there was no significant difference in the DSBs levels among these latter groups (all p > 0.05). Conclusion: The 100-kVp tube voltage may be optimal for CCTA when weighing DNA DSBs against the estimated radiation dose and image quality, with further reductions in tube voltage being unnecessary for CCTA.

Current Status of Etiology, Epidemiology, Clinical Manifestations and Imagings for COVID-19

        Jiang Meng Di,Zu Zi Yue,Schoepf U. Joseph,Savage Rock H.,Zhang Xiao Lei,Lu Guang Ming,Zhang Long Jiang 대한영상의학회 2020 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.21 No.10

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a transmissible respiratory disease that was initially reported in Wuhan, China in December 2019. With the alarming levels of COVID-19 spread worldwide, the World Health Organization characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic. Over the past several months, chest CT has played a vital role in early identification, disease severity assessment, and dynamic disease course monitoring of COVID-19. The published data has enriched our knowledge on the etiology, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and pathologic findings of COVID-19. Additionally, as the imaging spectrum of the disease continues to be defined, extrapulmonary infections or other complications will require further attention. This review aims to provide an updated framework and essential knowledge with which radiologists can better understand COVID-19.

CT Angiography-Derived RECHARGE Score Predicts Successful Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients with Chronic Total Occlusion

        Li Jiahui,Wang Rui,Tesche Christian,Schoepf U. Joseph,Pannell Jonathan T.,He Yi,Huang Rongchong,Chen Yalei,Li Jianan,Song Xiantao 대한영상의학회 2021 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.22 No.5

Objective: To investigate the feasibility and the accuracy of the coronary CT angiography (CCTA)-derived Registry of Crossboss and Hybrid procedures in France, the Netherlands, Belgium and United Kingdom (RECHARGE) score (RECHARGECCTA) for the prediction of procedural success and 30-minutes guidewire crossing in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic total occlusion (CTO). Materials and Methods: One hundred and twenty-four consecutive patients (mean age, 54 years; 79% male) with 131 CTO lesions who underwent CCTA before catheter angiography (CA) with CTO-PCI were retrospectively enrolled in this study. The RECHARGECCTA scores were calculated and compared with RECHARGECA and other CTA-based prediction scores, including Multicenter CTO Registry of Japan (J-CTO), CT Registry of CTO Revascularisation (CT-RECTOR), and Korean Multicenter CTO CT Registry (KCCT) scores. Results: The procedural success rate of the CTO-PCI procedures was 72%, and 61% of cases achieved the 30-minutes wire crossing. No significant difference was observed between the RECHARGECCTA score and the RECHARGECA score for procedural success (median 2 vs. median 2, p = 0.084). However, the RECHARGECCTA score was higher than the RECHARGECA score for the 30-minutes wire crossing (median 2 vs. median 1.5, p = 0.001). The areas under the curve (AUCs) of the RECHARGECCTA and RECHARGECA scores for predicting procedural success showed no statistical significance (0.718 vs. 0.757, p = 0.655). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and the negative predictive value of the RECHARGECCTA scores of ≤ 2 for predictive procedural success were 78%, 60%, 43%, and 87%, respectively. The RECHARGECCTA score showed a discriminative performance that was comparable to those of the other CTA-based prediction scores (AUC = 0.718 vs. 0.665–0.717, all p > 0.05). Conclusion: The non-invasive RECHARGECCTA score performs better than the invasive determination for the prediction of the 30-minutes wire crossing of CTO-PCI. However, the RECHARGECCTA score may not replace other CTA-based prediction scores for predicting CTO-PCI success.
