Hepatitis B Reactivation among Chronic Hepatitis C Patients Treated with Direct Acting Antivirals

Aims: This study aimed to investigate hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation among hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected patients treated with oral direct acting antiviral (DAA) therapy in areas endemic for HBV in Korea. Methods: A total of 821 HCV-infected patients receiving oral DAA therapy from March 2015 to November 2016 were evaluated. Serum HBV DNA and HCV RNA was regularly assessed during and after DAA treatment in patients with HBV-HCV coinfection. HBV virological reactivation was defined as a >1 log increase in HBV DNA from baseline or a reappearance of HBV DNA for those with baseline undetectable HBV DNA. Clinical reactivation was defined as a serum alanine aminotransferase level ≥3-fold over the upper limit of normal or > 100 U/L. Results: Prior to DAA therapy 95.8% (787/821) had HBsAg testing and 1.7% (13/787) were positive. HBV virological reactivation was found in 7 (53.8%) of the 13 patients. HBV-related clinical reactivation was not observed in our cohort. Conclusions: For HBV-HCV co-infected patients, the risk of HBV virological reactivation was present after oral DAA treatment for HCV infection. Monitoring the HBV DNA level during oral DAA therapy for HCV infection is warranted.

<P>Efficient gene delivery of a baculovirus-derived vector (BV-p53-lacZ) to a human osteogenic sarcoma cell line, Saos-2, was serendipitously found while evaluating the vector for gene delivery to human p53-null tumour cells in a previous study. Therefore, we investigated other human, rat and mouse osteogenic sarcoma and other types of tumour cell lines for transduction efficiency via baculovirus vectors containing a lacZ reporter gene under the control of either a cytomegalovirus or Rous sarcoma virus promoter. The expression of beta-galactosidase protein, assessed by X-Gal staining and beta-galactosidase ELISA, demonstrated an extremely high level of transduction efficiency in some osteogenic sarcoma cell lines, such as U-2OS, Saos-2 and Saos-LM2. These human osteogenic sarcoma cell lines showed levels of beta-galactosidase expression 5-40 times greater than HepG2 cells, which were previously thought to be the mammalian cells most susceptible to baculovirus-mediated gene delivery. The level of acetylated histone proteins in these tumour lines did not correlate well with the high level of reporter gene expression. These results strongly suggest that some osteogenic sarcoma cells are highly susceptible to baculovirus-mediated gene delivery and that a baculovirus-derived vector is an efficient gene delivery vehicle into human osteogenic sarcoma cells.</P>

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic T17 cells-driven immune-mediated inflammatory disease. However, psoriasis patients may have elevated serum total immunoglobulin E (IgE), which is a hallmark of Th2 inflammation. In previous case reports, patients with psoriasis with high serum IgE levels did not respond well to treatment or exacerbated eczema lesions. Objectives: We sought to investigate the clinical characteristics of psoriasis patients with high serum total IgE levels. Methods: This is a retrospective chart review of 130 patients with plaque psoriasis who had done serum total IgE level test from November 1, 2009, to October 31, 2019. We compared the demographics, clinical characteristics, severity of the disease, and treatment regimen for each high IgE group (>214 U/mL), and normal IgE group (≤214 U/mL). Results: Among 130 patients with psoriasis, 41 patients (31.5%) had high serum IgE level. High IgE levels were positively associated with the severity of disease and psoriasis lesions including scalp, hands, feet, and flexures which are difficult-to-treat were observed significantly higher in patients with high serum IgE level. There was no correlation between age, gender, disease duration, or presence of pruritus, and serum total IgE level. Conclusion: High serum IgE levels in psoriasis may be a prognostic factor which is related with more severe and difficult-to-treat traits requiring systemic treatment.

<P>Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a member of the β-herpesvirus family, which has tropism for glial cells. It was recently reported that HCMV might play important roles in the pathogenesis of malignant glioma. In this study, we investigated the effects of the HCMV IE1 protein on the gene expression profile in the human glioblastoma cell line, U373MG by employing cDNA microarray technology. Using DNA chips containing approximately 1,000 human cDNAs, RNA samples from U373MG cells stably expressing IE1 were compared with those from the control cells lacking IE1 cDNA. Fluorescence intensities of 13 genes were significantly decreased in IE1-expressing cells, while one gene was found to be upregulated. Among these 14 genes, we chose to work further on glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), and p53, because of their previously known involvement in tumorigenesis. The mRNA levels of all these genes were found to be decreased in IE1-expressing glioblastoma cells by real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) as well as Northern blot analysis. The decreased expression of these genes was also observed at protein levels as measured by immunocytochemistry or fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) analysis. Our data strongly suggested that HCMV IE1 could modulate the expression of cellular genes that might play important roles in the pathogenesis of glial tumors. © 2005 Wiley-Liss, Inc.</P>

An experimetal method proposed in this paper, the triangular current test furnishes a straightforward procedure for the display of the current-inductance locus on a C. R. T. The effectiveness of this method is shown in the evaluation of equivalent electric circuit parameters for the electromechanical machine with the saturation, hystersis and the eddy current in the magnetic core.
저압 플라즈마를 이용한 피혁의 환경 친화적인 접착 표면 처리

The plasma generally, ionized gas state, is the 4th state composed the universe. Generating the plasma artificially has been studied by spending energy and it has a lot of applications in human's life. There are several merits to modify the surface of polymer using plasma. Above all, plasma maintains the property of polymer because of it changes the property of surface only. Also, it doesn't use any organic solvents and it is the environment friendly process because of there are no waste under processing. Furthemore, in case of high-pressure plasma, it is possible that automated-processing continuously. In this study, we tried the reforming of surface to rise the adhesive strength between the material of polymer, experimented the rising of adhesive strength through a experiment of peel strenght by virtue of processing time and using gas, confirmed the change of polymer's surface through measuring the surface contact angle analyzer and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).
