Vortioxetine Induced Hypomania: A Case Presentation and Review of the Literature

Ece Buyuksandalyaci Tunc,Serhat Tunc 대한정신약물학회 2022 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.20 No.2

Antidepressant-induced hypomania/mania is a complex issue that can be seen in mood disorders but is not clarified. There are case reports in the literature regarding vortioxetine-induced mania and hypomania; however, there is insufficient data. Here, we aim to present a case of vortioxetine-induced hypomania in a major depressive disorder patient who previously used various antidepressants but did not experience hypomania or mania. Our case is expected to contribute to the literature.

Surgical indicators for the operative treatment of acute mechanical intestinal obstruction due to adhesions

        Tunc Eren,Salih Boluk,Baris Bayraktar,Ibrahim Ali Ozemir,Sumeyra Yildirim Boluk,Ercument Tombalak,Orhan Alimoglu 대한외과학회 2015 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.88 No.6

Purpose: Our aim was to investigate the predictive factors indicating strangulation, and the requirement for surgery in patients with acute mechanical intestinal obstruction due to adhesions. Methods: This study retrospectively evaluated the records of patients with adhesive acute mechanical intestinal obstruction. The surgical treatment (group S), conservative treatment (group C), intraoperative bowel ischemia (group I), and intraoperative adhesion only (group A) groups were statistically evaluated according to the diagnostic and surgical parameters. Results: The study group of 252 patients consisted of 113 women (44.8%), and 139 men (55.2%). The mean age was 62.79 ± 18.08 years (range, 20?98 years). Group S consisted of 50 patients (19.8%), and 202 (80.2%) were in group C. Group I consisted of 19 patients (38%), where as 31 (62%) were in group A. In group S, the prehospital symptomatic period was longer, incidence of fever was increased, and elevated CRP levels were significant (P < 0.05). Plain abdominal radiography, and abdominal computerized tomography were significantly sensitive for strangulation (P < 0.05). The elderly were more prone to strangulation (P < 0.05). Fever, rebound tendernes, and urea & creatinine levels were significantly higher in the presence of strangulation (P < 0.05, P < 0.05, and P < 0.05, consecutively). Conclusion: Fever, rebound tenderness, urea & creatinine levels, plain abdominal radiography, and abdominal computerized tomography images were important indicators of bowel ischemia. Longer prehospital symptomatic period was related with a tendency for surgical treatment, and the elderly were more prone to strangulation. CRP detection was considered to be useful for the decision of surgery, but not significantly predictive for strangulation.

INSTABILITY OF SOLUTIONS FOR NONLINEAR DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS OF EIGHTH ORDER WITH MULTIPLE DEVIATING ARGUMENTS

Tunc, Cemil The Korean Society for Computational and Applied M 2012 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.30 No.5

In this work, we prove the instability of solutions for a class of nonlinear functional differential equations of the eighth order with n-deviating arguments. We employ the functional Lyapunov approach and the Krasovskii criteria to prove the main results. The obtained results extend some existing results in the literature.

Update in the Mechanisms of Allergen-Specific Immunotheraphy

        Tunc Akkoc,Mübeccel Akdis,Cezmi A. Akdis 대한천식알레르기학회 2011 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.3 No.1

Allergic diseases represent a complex innate and adoptive immune response to natural environmental allergens with Th2-type T cells and allergenspecific IgE predominance. Allergen-specific immunotherapy is the most effective therapeutic approach for disregulated immune response towards allergens by enhancing immune tolerance mechanisms. The main aim of immunotherapy is the generation of allergen nonresponsive or tolerant T cells in sensitized patients and downregulation of predominant T cell- and IgE-mediated immune responses. During allergen-specific immunotherapy,T regulatory cells are generated, which secrete IL-10 and induce allergen-specific B cells for the production of IgG4 antibodies. These mechanisms induce tolerance to antigens that reduces allergic symptoms. Although current knowledge highlights the role of T regulatory cell-mediated immunetolerance, definite mechanisms that lead to a successful clinical outcomes of allergen-specific immunotherapy still remains an open area of research.

From "Golden Girl" to "Yellow Peril" : Reading the Transgressive Body in Ruthanne Lum McCunn's Thousand Pieces of Gold

TUNC, Tanfer Emin Ewha Womans University Press 2008 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.14 No.2

The female body and the social constructions that define it, can literally be "read" in fiction and non-fiction, and in a genre which combines elements of both literary styles: the biographical novel. Ruthanne Lum McCunn's Thousand Pieces of Gold, which traces the life of Lalu Nathoy, a Chinese woman who migrated to the United States during the late-nineteenth century, is a prime example of such a hybrid account. As both a modern historical figure and a post-modern "fictive" literary character, Lalu Nathoy serves as a microcosm of the Asian-American experience and the ways in which gender, race, and class are produced and read through women's bodies. Her desire to escape poverty in rural China compels Lalu to negotiate a new social position for herself - one that challenges her family's middle-class aspirations and allows her, like the bamboo she cultivates, to be "strong yet bend in the wind." Although, to her parents' dismay, this survival mechanism (which is enacted on her body) characterizes her as a sexually- ambiguous working-class woman who is not even worthy of prostitution, it allows her to escape China's rigid social system and migrate to the United States. However, as Lalu soon realizes, her status as a Chinese immigrant renders her "undesirable" in the context of the American national project. Through the adaptive survival techniques of mimicry, hybridity and assimilation, she uses her body to adopt a new set of gender, race and class strategies, which ultimately allow her to carve out a niche for herself in the turn-of-the-twentieth-century American West. In doing so, Lalu not only elucidates the ways in which transcultural persons can resist hegemonic pressures and claim agency for themselves (in her case, by sabotaging the practices designed by Chinese and American society to discipline women), but also exemplifies the transgressive and subversive power that can be produced through the body.

      • Mean Platelet Volume as a Prognostic Marker in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Patients Treated with Bevacizumab-Combined Chemotherapy

Tunce, Tolga,Ozgun, Alpaslan,Emirzeoglu, Levent,Celik, Serkan,Bilgi, Oguz,Karagoz, Bulent Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Background: Recent studies have revealed a prognostic impact of the MPV (mean platelet volume)/platelet count ratio in terms of survival in advanced non-small cell lung cancer. However, there has been no direct analysis of the survival impact of MPV in patients with mCRC. The aim of the study is to evaluate the pretreatment MPV of patients with metastatic and non-metastatic colorectal cancer (non-mCRC) and also the prognostic significance of pretreatment MPV to progression in mCRC patients treated with bevacizumab-combined chemotherapy. Materials and Methods: Fifty-three metastatic and ninety-five non-metastatic colorectal cancer patients were included into the study. Data on sex, age, lymph node status, MPV, platelet and platecrit (PCT) levels were obtained retrospectively from the patient medical records. Results: The MPV was significantly higher in the patients with mCRC compared to those with non-mCRC ($7.895{\pm}1.060$ versus $7.322{\pm}1.136$, p=0.013). The benefit of bevacizumab on PFS was significantly greater among the patients with low MPV than those with high MPV. The hazard ratio (HR) of disease progression was 0.41 (95%CI, 0.174-0.986; p=0.04). In conclusion, despite the retrospective design and small sample size, MPV can be considered a prognostic factor for mCRC patients treated with bevacizumab-combined chemotherapy.

Nutritional properties, minerals, and selected heavy metal contents in herby cheese plants of Lamiaceae

Murat Tunc¸tu¨rk,Tamer Eryig˘it,Ali Rahmi Kaya 한국응용생명화학회 2017 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.60 No.1

Ten of the most popular and well-known edible plant species from the Lamiaceae which are used in the production of herby cheese were examined to evaluate their nutritional properties, mineral, and heavy metal content. This study has revealed significant variations in the contents of minerals among the studied plant species. The most of plant samples were rich in some of the vital minerals such as Fe, Cu, Ca, K, Mn, and Zn, which are known to be important in health maintenance. Ziziphora capitata plant materials had the highest concentration of toxic heavy metals, including chromium (1.72 mg kg-1), where Mentha longifolia had the highest cobalt (1.14 mg kg-1). The results of this study suggest that the use of these plant species in herby cheese will not contribute to heavy metal toxicity, but may be useful in treating micronutrient deficiency.

Logistic entropy of bone mineral density at diabetes and nondiabetes and new type visualizations

        S. Tunc Cekim,G. Kılınc,M. Sengonul,K. Kayaduman 원광대학교 기초자연과학연구소 2022 ANNALS OF FUZZY MATHEMATICS AND INFORMATICS Vol.24 No.3

In the medicine, the reference intervals are obtained help of statistical methods. These intervals are evaluated by physicians according to their vocational knowledge and thus disease is identified. The reference intervals must be obtained accurately as they are the basis of the analysis of situation and treatment. Are your reference intervals correct for your patient or is it suitable for the detection of diseases or do medical chart records and reference intervals provide complete and accurate information about the diseases they represent? In this paper, the entropy values in the reference intervals were calculated for normal, partially degraded and full degraded bone mineral density of diabetic and nondiabetics patients and were given entropy images using by fuzzy sets and its entropy concept. Thus, we have measured entropies of reference intervals and given entropy images. Also, we have calculated entropy values for T and Z scores and it has been noticed that entropy values very high in some bone mineral intervals.

Examination of levels pentraxin-3, interleukin-6, and C-reactive protein in rat model acute and chronic exercise

        Melek Tunc-Ata,Gunfer Turgut,Mukaddes Mergen-Dalyanoglu,Sebahat Turgut 한국운동재활학회 2017 JER Vol.13 No.3

Different types of exercise occurs damage at the cellular level in the muscles. Muscle damage caused by exercise is determined creatine kinase, myoglobin, and increase in levels of acute phase protein and in-terleukin in blood. The purpose of this study was investigated the levels of pentraxin-3 (PTX-3), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and C-reactive protein (CRP) following acute and chronic exercising in rats. Twenty-six Wistar Albino male rats were divided in to three groups. A treadmill exercise was per-formed 3 days/week, 10 min/day for 1 week in acute groups. In chronic group, exercise performed 7 days/week, 60 min/day for 4 weeks. At the end of the experiment, plasma PTX-3, IL-6, and CRP levels were mea-sured. In current study, the PTX-3, IL-6, and CRP levels not observed statistically significant difference among control, acute, and chronic groups. The levels IL-6 and CRP were not significantly different between acute and chronic exercise groups (P>0.05). However, the level of PTX-3 was found to be higher in the chronic group compared to the acute group (P<0.05). The PTX-3 level increase on chronic exercise-induced muscle damage. Accorting to our results, we think that PTX-3 may have a protect role on muscle damage during chronic exercises.
