Apium graveolens has been shown to inhibit the growth of a variety of cancer tissues. In this study, we investigated the anticancer effect of A. graveolens on the human prostatic carcinoma cell line LNCaP. LNCaP cells were treated with increasing concentrations of an ethanolic extract of A. graveolens ranging from 1000 to 3000 μg/mL, and viability was determined after 24 and 48 h using the XTT cell proliferation assay. The levels of cleaved poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), one of the best biomarkers of apoptosis, were analyzed. Finally, quantitative gene expression analysis of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a critical mediator of angiogenesis, was performed using real-time reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction. A. graveolens extract inhibited cell viability in both a time- and dose-dependent manner. Data from cleaved PARP assays suggested that A. graveolens caused induction of apoptosis in these cells. Treatment of cells with A. graveolens also resulted in downregulation of VEGF expression. This study showed that the antiproliferative effect exerted by an ethanolic extract of A. graveolens is triggered by induction of apoptosis. We also demonstrated that VEGF expression was downregulated by treatment with A. graveolens extract.
Some Characterizations of Quaternionic Rectifying Curves in the Semi-Euclidean Space E(4)(2)
( Tulay Erisir ),( Mehmet Ali Gungor ) 호남수학회 2014 호남수학학술지 Vol.36 No.1
The notion of rectifying curve in the Euclidean space is introduced by Chen as a curve whose position vector always lies in its rectifying plane spanned by the tangent and the binormal vector field t and n2 of the curve, [1]. In this study, we have obtained some characterizations of semi-real spatial quaternionic rectifying curves in R31. Moreover, by the aid of these characterizations, we have investigated semi real quaternionic rectifying curves in semi-quaternionic space Qu.
New Approach to Pell and Pell-Lucas Sequences
Yagmur, Tulay Department of Mathematics 2019 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.59 No.1
In this paper, we first define generalizations of Pell and Pell-Lucas sequences by the recurrence relations $$p_n=2ap_{n-1}+(b-a^2)p_{n-2}\;and\;q_n=2aq_{n-1}+(b-a^2)q_{n-2}$$ with initial conditions $p_0=0$, $p_1=1$, and $p_0=2$, $p_1=2a$, respectively. We give generating functions and Binet's formulas for these sequences. Also, we obtain some identities of these sequences.

The Effect of a Social Skills Program on Violent Behaviors in Children Aged 60~72 Months
Kuzlu Ayyildiz, Tulay,Cimete, Guler 한국간호과학회 2019 Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Vol.49 No.6
Purpose: To determine the effects of a child and parent program on developing social skills for preventing violent behaviors in children aged 60~72 months through a specially developed pre and posttest, control group, quasi-experimental study. Methods: A social skills development program based on Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory was used. The data were collected using the Social Skills Assessment Scale (SSAS), a Chart to Monitor Verbal and Behavioral Violence in Children, the Parental Attitude Scale and the Parent Interview Form. This quasi-experimental study that included a pretest, posttest, and control group had a sample comprising 67 children and parents, with 36 in the experimental group, and 31 in the control group. Results: Over a six-month period, while the social skill scores of the children in the experimental and control groups increased, their violent behaviors decreased (p<.050). Increase in social skill scores and decrease in violent behaviors were higher in the experimental than in the control group children (p<.050). The parents in the experimental group stated that they had started to empathize with their children, using “I” language, and applied rules more consistently after the program. Conclusion: This program was successful in preventing violent behaviors in children through the development of social skills. Hence, it can be effectively implemented through a teacher/nurse collaboration.
HYPERBOLIC SPINOR DARBOUX EQUATIONS OF SPACELIKE CURVES IN MINKOWSKI 3-SPACE
Yakup Balci,Tulay Erisir,Mehmet Ali Gungor 충청수학회 2015 충청수학회지 Vol.28 No.4
In this paper, we study on spinors with two hyperbolic components. Firstly, we express the hyperbolic spinor representation of a spacelike curve defined on an oriented (spacelike or time-like) surface in Minkowski space R. Then, we obtain the relation between the hyperbolic spinor representation of the Frenet frame of the spacelike curve on oriented surface and Darboux frame of the surface on the same points. Finally, we give one example about these hyperbolic spinors.

External Jugular Vein Catheterization Using ‘Intra-Atrial Electrocardiogram’
Dilek Karaaslan,Ugur Altinisik,Tulay Tuncer Peker,Esra Nayir,Sadik Ozmen 연세대학교의과대학 2009 Yonsei medical journal Vol.50 No.2
Purpose: To investigate the reliability of intra-atrial electrocardiogram (ECG) use for external jugular vein (EJV) catheterization. Materials and Methods: Patients undergoing open heart surgery in Suleyman Demirel University Hospital between February and June 2006 were included in the study. Using a sterile Seldinger technique, a triple lumen polyurethane central venous catheter was introduced (Certofix® Trio V 720, length 20 cm, 7 French) under intra-atrial ECG guidance. The presence of an increase in P-wave size was recorded. Just after the surgery, a portable chest X-ray was taken. The method was considered to be successful when a change in P-wave could be seen and the catheter was in the superior vena cava, as well as when there was no change in P-wave and the catheter was not in the superior vena cava. Results: In six patients (12%), we were not able to advance the guidewire. In the remaining 44 patients, the catheter was inserted without problem. Eight of these 44 catheters were positioned in the innominate vein, with a malposition ratio of 18%. The success rate of external jugular vein cannulation with intra-atrial ECG was 95%. No complications occured related to the EJV cannulation. Conclusion: Considering that it is easily accessed without complication, and the malposition is successfully detected by intra-atrial ECG, EJV is a suitable access for central venous cannulation when internal jugular vein (IJV) is not usable. Objective: Lymphadenectomy, in general, is a safe and well-tolerated procedure in gynecologic oncology. However, some technical difficulties may be experienced in obese women which may result in inadequate lymphadenectomy and increased complications. The purpose of this study is to retrospectively evaluate the effect of obesity on lymph node counts retrieved and complication rates observed during lymphadenectomy in gynecologic cancers. Methods: Patients with ovarian, endometrial or cervical cancers treated with initial surgery including bilateral pelvic and paraaortic lymph node dissection were grouped as non-obese and obese. These two groups were compared in terms of the number of retrieved lymph nodes and the rate of intraoperative complications directly related to lymph node dissection. Results: One hundred twenty-three patients were eligible with a mean age of 55.1 years and mean body mass index of 29.2 kg/m2. Fifty-nine patients were obese while 64 were non-obese. Lymph node counts obtained in different stations and in total were similar among non-obese and obese patients. Rates of lymphadenectomy-related intraoperative complications including vascular, neural, intestinal, and bladder injury were also similar in non-obese and obese patients. Conclusion: The obesity does not affect the lymph node counts and intraoperative complication rates adversely in women with gynecologic cancers. Therefore, adequate lymph node dissection should not be omitted based solely upon obesity in gynecologic oncology patients.
