Development of a collaborative framework for improving design of product service systems
Tuananh Tran,Joon Young Park(박준영) (사)한국CDE학회 2016 한국 CAD/CAM 학회 학술발표회 논문집 Vol.2016 No.동계
Product service system (PSS) has been researched in academia and implemented in industry for more than a decade and it brings plenty of benefits to various stakeholders such as: customers, PSS providers, the environment as well as the society. But the adoption of PSS in industry so far is limited comparing with its potentials. One of the reasons leading to this limitation is that PSS design is tricky. So far, there are several methodologies to design PSS but each of them has certain limitations. This paper proposes a collaborative framework which is constructed using the concept of user co-creation. This framework allows designers to design PSS effectively in terms of users’ perception of PSS value, design quality and evaluation. The authors also introduce a case study to demonstrate and validate the proposed framework.

Nowadays, crowdsourcing has become a popular concept and is widely used in many social, economical and technological areas. For consumer product design, crowdsourcing is implemented extensively with many cases. Although there has been a lot of research on the application of crowdsourcing for product design, the big picture of how factors influence the participartion of individuals from the crowd in a crowdsourcing project for product design has not yet been understood. This paper aims to investigate the relationships of crowd participation and influencing factors including: process, product, and reward. To do this, we conducted a survey on a crowd of engineering individuals and analyzed the collected data with data mining techniques. Main findings include the relationships of crowd participation versus process, product, and reward factors as well as regression models to predict crowd participation.

The rise of crowdsourcing and web 2.0 environment opens plenty of opportunities for companies who want to exploit the outer power for inner innovation. Implementation of crowdsourcing for product design and development has been more and more attracted by researchers and enterprises. Many cases of successful implementation of crowdsourcing for product design and development such as: Threadless, FIAT Mio, Lego online Factory, etc. have made crowdsourcing become a promising source of innovative power. In this research, we deploy an experiment on a real crowd of engineering related individuals and investigate how crowdsourcing takes effects on various product design and development phases. The experiment results (1) give a quantitative view of the behavior of the crowd towards various phases of a product design and development process that utilizes crowdsourcing, (2) provide a practical guidance for companies to harness the power of the crowd sensibly, and (3) contribute experimental data for further researches in this field.
Development of a novel set of criteria to select methodology for designing product service systems
Tran, Tuananh,Park, Joon Young Society for Computational Design and Engineering 2016 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.3 No.2
This paper proposes eight groups of twenty nine scoring criteria that can help designers and practitioners to compare and select an appropriate methodology for a certain problem in designing product service system (PSS). PSS has been researched for more than a decade and is now becoming more and more popular in academia as well as industry. Despite that fact, the adoption of PSS is still limited for its potential. One of the main reasons is that designing PSS itself is a challenge. Designers and developers face difficulties in choosing appropriate PSS design methodologies for their projects so that they can design effective PSS offerings. By proposing eight groups of twenty nine scoring criteria, this paper enables a "step by step" process to identify the most appropriate design methodology for a company's PSS problem. An example is also introduced to illustrate the use of the proposed scoring criteria and provide a clear picture of how different design methodologies can be utilized at their best in terms of application.

This study proposes polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) based cogeneration system for greenhouse heating and cooling. The main scope of this study is to examine the proposed cogeneration system’s suitability for the 660 ㎡-class greenhouse. A 25 kW PEMFC system generates electricity for two identical air-cooled heat pumps, each with a nominal heating capacity of 70 kW and a cooling capacity of 65 kW. Heat recovered from the fuel cell supports the heat pump, supplying hot water to the greenhouse. In cooling mode, the adsorption system provides cold water to the greenhouse using recovered heat from the fuel cell. As a result, the cogeneration system satisfies both heating and cooling capability, performing 175 and 145 kW, respectively.

Today, it is crucial to understand one’s own traditional culture as well as others. By learning traditional culture, students can consider the distinct characteristic of their own culture and culture universality. Also creative activities education in traditional culture industry field make it possible for students to develop creativity and build their character. This study provides activitity program for the Bucheon Atelier Street. This program composes cognitive constituents which are problem-solving, divergent thinking, visualization skills, critical thinking. Also, it includes factors which are diversity, autonomy, creativity, curiosity, interest, immersion. In addition, it help to build character implements which are cooperation, responsibility, consideration, pride. This program consist of 5 steps: beforehand activity, researching material activity, experiencing an on-the-spot activity, other experiencing activity, arrange activity. Beforehand activity is planning and getting prior knowledge process. Researching material activity is about 7 intangible cultural assets in Bucheon Atelier Street. Other experiencing activity is producing brochure or advertisement poster. Lastly, writing essay and presenting and evaluating are conducted in the arrange activity.
