The aim of this study was to evaluate the antiinflammatory activity of ethanol extracts from chaga mushroom (Inonotus obliquus, IOE) grown on germinated brown rice. A total of 35 male BALB/c mice were divided into 5 treatment groups and given a commercial diet (A),IOE administration (B), dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)treatment to induce colitis (C), IOE administration+DSSinduced colitis (D), and sulfasalazine administration+DSS-induced colitis (E). IOE treatment (D) decreased the expression of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, interleukin (IL)-4, interferon (IFN)-γ, signal transducers and activators of transcription (STAT)1, and STAT6 and showed lower levels of immunoglobulin (Ig)E and IgA in the spleen and mesenteric lymph node (MLN)compared to those of the DSS-induced colitis group (C). In addition, IOE suppressed the DSS-induced colonic tissue destruction. Therefore, our data strongly suggests that IOE could be a potent anti-inflammatory agent.

English Bazar municipality serves quality educational, health, marketing, recreational, administrative, and other urban facilities to the people of urban areas as well as rural areas of its surrounding. Over the last few decades, the study area experiences rapid population growth and positive economic changes. As a result, on a daily basis a huge quantity of goods and population flow within and outside the municipality. It creates high transportation demand for accessing the urban facilities. The roads and railway line radiate from the centre of the municipality towards the villages of this block and other adjacent blocks of the district. The aim of this paper is to analyze the road connectivity and network accessibility of the study villages using graph theory. Moreover, connectivity index, shimbel index, associated number, and average shortest path length have also been used for categorically understanding the magnitude of network accessibility. The result shows regional imbalances in terms of connectivity and network accessibility. Villages are located in the central position and adjacent to the English Bazar municipality (EBM) are most accessible. However, the distant villages which are far from the EBM having poor accessibility and poor road network efficiency. Therefore it would suggest that there is a need to improve the connectivity and accessibility of those distant villages for future growth and development of the study region.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P> <I>Moringa oleifera</I> (<I>M. oleifera</I>) is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions and has been used as a vegetable and in traditional medicine. In this study, the anti-atopic dermatitis activity of the ethanol extract of <I>M. oleifera</I> leaf was investigated <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo.</I> </P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>For the <I>in vitro</I> study, HaCaT human keratinocytes were used for cytokines and MAPKinase assay. In the <I>in vivo</I> study, <I>M. oleifera</I> leaf ethanolic extract (MO) was topically applied to BALB/c mice with <I>Dermatophagoides farinae</I> extract (DFE; house dust mite extract)- and 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced atopic dermatitis (AD).</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>The expression of TNF-α, CCL17, IL-1β, IL-6 pro-inflammatory cytokine-related mRNA, and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) in TNF-α/IFN-γ-induced HaCaT keratinocytes were reduced by MO. Epidermal and dermal ear thickness, mast cell infiltration, serum immunoglobulin levels, as well as gene expression of various cytokines in the ear tissue, lymph nodes, and splenocytes were improved by treatment with MO. In addition, MO reduced the expression of retinoic acid-related orphan receptor γT (RORγT), thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), and mannose receptor (CD206) mRNA in the ear tissue and improved cervical lymph node size.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>The results of this study strongly suggest the beneficial effects of MO on AD via the regulation of inflammatory responses.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Nanostructured copper–cobalt based spinel [(Cu<SUB>0.30</SUB>Co<SUB>0.70</SUB>)Co<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>] was employed as an electrocatalyst in the hydrogen peroxide (H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>) reduction reaction (HRR). Both nanoparticles and nanoneedles co-existed in the (Cu<SUB>0.30</SUB>Co<SUB>0.70</SUB>)Co<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> spinel, which exhibited a high intrinsic electrical conductivity and surface-to-volume ratio, resulting therefore in a large electrochemically active surface area for the HRR. In addition, (Cu<SUB>0.30</SUB>Co<SUB>0.70</SUB>)Co<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> showed an onset potential at approximately −0.14 V in the HRR, with a limiting current density of ∼104 mA/cm<SUP>2</SUP> at −0.43 V. The synthesised material followed the direct HRR pathway and exhibited good stability. In addition, the HRR activity of (Cu<SUB>0.30</SUB>Co<SUB>0.70</SUB>)Co<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> was comparable to that of commercial Pt/C electrodes. The present results therefore demonstrate the significant potential of (Cu<SUB>0.30</SUB>Co<SUB>0.70</SUB>)Co<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> for future applications in fuel cells as a cathode catalyst.</P>
