Development in highly active catalysts for the reforming of methane with CO₂and partial oxidation of methane was conducted to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide with high reaction rates. An Ni-based four-components catalyst, Ni-Ce₂O₃-Pt-Rh, supported on an alumina wash-coated ceramic fiber in a plate shape was suitable for the objective reaction. By combining the catalytic combustion of ethane or propane, methane conversion was markedly enhanced, and a high space-time yield of syngas, 25,000 ㏖/ℓ·h was obtained at a catalyst temperature of 700℃ or furnace temperature of 500℃. The extraordinary high space-time yield of syngas was also confirmed even under the very rapid flow rate conditions as a contact time of 3 m-sec by using a monolithic shape of catalyst bed without back pressure.
Immunological aspects of patho-physiology of preeclampsia
( Tomoyuki Fujii ) 대한산부인과학회 2015 대한산부인과학회 학술대회 Vol.101 No.-
Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder defined as a pregnant complication with hypertension ( ≥ 140 mm Hg systolic or 2! 90 mm !-Ig diastolic) plus proteinuria (≥ 0.3 g/24 hours) after 20 weeks of gestation. As the pathogenic pathway of preeclampsia. thc two stage model has been proposed that a poorly perfused placenta (Stage I) produces factor(s) such as soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase- l (sFlt- l) leading to thc clin ical manifestations of preeclampsia (Slage2). Although the initial cause of preeclampsia has nOI been clarified, many immunological disorders in preeclamptic women ha\``c been reported. We have found thc presence of intcrleukin-2 (lL-2) in decidua, altered expression of human leukocyte antigen-G (HLA-G) on trophoblasts, and elevation of serum interleukin-2 and tumor necrosis factor -alpha levels before the clinical manifestations of preeclampsia. We also reported that IL-2 expressed in preeclamptic decidua might reduce the angiogenic activity of trophoblasts by inducing LAK-cells from decidual lymphoq``les. which might be relevant to deranged vasculature of the placenta, a characteristic histology in preeclampsia. Besides the maternal immune disorders, recent studies have revealed the relationship between preeclampsia and lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), which is a bioactive lipid mediator and is though t to play an important role in pregnancy. Plasma LPA is 1113inly produced by 3utotaxin (ATX), and ATX activity in plasma and the expression of ATX by trophoblasts increases during pregnancy paralleled with gestational weeks. We have found that the serum ATX antigen levels of the preeclamptic women were significantly lower than those of the normal pregnant women. Placental expression level of ATX in preeclampsia, especially in the early-onset preeclampsia, was significantly lower than that in nonml pregnancy. These findings suggest that a disturbance in placental ATX production may be linked to poor placental development and clin ical manifestation of preeclampsia.

Prediction of psychological wellbeing based on several important predictors was conducted for ensuring maintenance of good mental health. A 3-year follow-up study to determine psychological well-being was conducted in 969 Japanese male workers. Age, body mass index, present history of medication and four lifestyle factors were used for the analysis. A logistic regression analysis revealed that the odds ratio (95% confidence interval) for obtaining a score of ≥4 in the General Health Questionnaire-12-item version, among the subjects who felt refreshed by sleep was 0.559 (0.415-0.753). None of the other factors showed any statistically significant association. Feeling refreshed by sleep was identified as a predictor of maintained psychological wellbeing in this 3-year follow-up study.
1/f-LIKE FREQUENCY FLUCTUATION IN FRONTAL ALPHA WAVE AS AN INDICATOR OF EMOTION
( Tomoyuki Yoshida ) 한국감성과학회 2000 춘계학술대회 Vol.2000 No.-
There are two approaches in the study of emotion in the physiological psychology. The first is to clarify the brain mechanism of emotion, and the second is to evaluate objectively emotions using physiological responses along with our feeling experience. The method presented here belongs to the second one. Our method is based on the "level-crossing point detection" method. which involves the analysis of frequency fluctuations of EEG and is characterized by estimation of emotionality using coefficients of slopes in the log-power spectra of frequency fluctuation in alpha waves on both the left and right frontal lobe. In this paper we introduce a new theory of estimation on an individual`s emotional state by using our non-invasive and easy measurement apparatus.
The Japanese Way in Warfare: Japan`s Grand Strategy for the Twenty-First Century
( Tomoyuki Ishizu ) 한국국방연구원 2000 The Korean Journal of Defense Analysis Vol.12 No.1
Japan`s foreign and defense policy is now at a crossroads. The end of the Cold War opens the door for a possible policy renaissance in Japan. By "renaissance," it is meant that instead of merely responding passively to the changes in the international environment, Japan might positively shape the international environment. This marks a departure from the Japanese stance since the Second World War and should be appreciated as such. At the same time, however, it is also fair to say that Japan is still muddling through, failing to define clear national objectives and a grand strategy needed to achieve them. This article is designed to provide a useful framework upon which Japan`s future foreign and defense policy could be based. To this end, the experience of Britain will be examined. Though historical, the British model in fact provides many relevant lessons for Japan, and the author will draw on his discussion of these lessons in order to envision a grand strategy suitable for Japan`s survival and prosperity in the security environment of East Asia in the twenty-first century. In so doing, problems on the Korean peninsula and the China-Taiwan issue will be examined as case studies and developed as fully as possible. It should be noted that this article aims to provide a framework through which Japan`s foreign and defense policy could be developed in the future. As such, its focus will be conceptual rather than factual, and historical rather than current events-driven.
