Optical Camera Communication: Motion over Camera

Teli, Shivani,Cahyadi, Willy Anugrah,Chung, Yeon Ho Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 2017 IEEE communications magazine Vol.55 No.8

OCC is a pragmatic version of VLC based on a smart device camera that allows easier implementation of various services in smart devices. This article presents a flexible and novel motion detection scheme over a smart device camera in OCC. The motion detection is conducted in conjunction with a static downlink optical camera communication, where a mobile phone front camera is employed as the receiver and an 8 x 8 dot matrix LED as the transmitter. In addition to the 8 x 8 dot matrix LED for data transmission, 10 white LEDs are also employed for providing illumination, acquiring camera focus, and light metering. The motion detection or MoC is designed to detect the user's finger movement through the OCC link via the camera. A simple but efficient quadrant division based motion detection algorithm is proposed for reliable and accurate detection of motion. The experiment and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is able to detect motion with a success probability of up to 96 percent in the mobile phone camera based OCC. It is envisioned that the proposed motion detection can facilitate cost-effective and convenient smart home environments in the OCC, where the provision of illumination and short-range wireless communications has already been addressed.

      • Selective capture based high-speed optical vehicular signaling system

        Teli, Shivani,Chung, Yeon-Ho Elsevier 2018 SIGNAL PROCESSING-IMAGE COMMUNICATION - Vol.68 No.-

Abstract

The present article introduces a high-speed optical vehicular signaling system using a distinct and unique capturing strategy called selective capture (SC). The proposed scheme performs the SC within the frame while capturing, not after the frames are captured, thereby reducing the capturing area and thus increasing the camera capture speed. One of the major challenges in optical camera communication (OCC) based vehicular signaling system is low data transmission rate, due to a low sampling rate of a camera receiver, compared with very high-speed modulation of light emitting diodes (LEDs) used as the transmitter. We propose this SC-based technique for a high-speed optical vehicular signaling system. Experiments are conducted to verify the proposed scheme while analyzing various parameters such as margin setting to calculate a total SC area, considering the movement of a vehicle along the roadside, inter-vehicle distance measurement and LED detection from a Raspberry Pi camera (RaspiCam) module. The SC is performed using template matching technique on the RaspiCam module and then the margin is added with the SC to obtain the total SC area. This total SC area is utilized for capturing the taillights of the leading vehicle ( L V ). The optical vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) signaling system utilizes two 4 × 4 red LED arrays mounted on L V as the taillights and a RaspiCam mounted on the following vehicle ( F V ). It is found that the use of RaspiCam set with the total SC area to capture the taillights significantly increases the capture speed of RaspiCam from 120 frames per second (fps) to 435 fps, yielding an efficient and high-speed V2V signaling with flicker-free taillights. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed optical V2V provides a data rate of up to 6.912 kbps and achieves acceptable bit error rate performance at a distance of up to 175 cm.

Highlights

High-speed optical vehicular signaling system using selective capture is proposed.

High rate, high performance and inter-vehicle distance measurement are provided.

Selective capture significantly increases capture speed from 120 fps to 435 fps.

At a 640 × 480 resolution, a high data rate of 6.912 kbps is achieved up to 175 cm.

Imparting Disperse and Cationic Dyeability to Polypropylene through Melt Blending

        Teli M. D.,Adivarekar R. V.,Ramani V.Y.,Sabale A.G. The Korean Fiber Society 2004 Fibers and polymers Vol.5 No.4

The present paper deals with improvement in disperse dyeablility as well as imparting of cationic dyeablility to difficultly dyeable polypropylene by a melt blending technique. Isotactic polypropylene (PP) was blended with fibre grade polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), cationic dyeable polyethylene terephthalate (CDPET) and polystyrene (PS), individually. The resulting binary blends were spun and drawn into fibres at draw ratio 2, 2.5, and 3. The compatibility of blends, structural changes of fibres in terms of X-ray crystallinity, relative crystallinity, sonic modulus, birefringence and thermal stability were examined. The blended fibres were found to be disperse dyeable by the conventional method of high temperature and high pressure dyeing. And this dye ability increased with increase in the level of substitution. PP/CDPET blend also exhibited dyeablility with cationic dyes in addition to that with disperse dyes. The optimum level of blending was predicted keeping in view of tenacity and thermal stability of melt blend fibres. The wash fastness properties of the dyed fibres were found to be of high rate.

Application of Sterculia Foetida Fruit Shell Waste Biomolecules on Silk for Aesthetic and Wellness Properties

        M. D. Teli,Pintu Pandit 한국섬유공학회 2018 Fibers and polymers Vol.19 No.1

There has been growing interest in the use of bioresource waste for natural dyeing and finishing. This paper discusses dye extraction from the novel source fruit shell waste of Sterculia foetida and its app+lication on mulberry silk fabric to confer aesthetic coloration and wellness properties such as ultra-violet (UV) protection and antibacterial properties. Treated fabrics showed a substantial increase in color depth and adequate wash, light, and rubbing fastness properties fordyed silk fabrics with and without mordanting. Pre- and post-mordanting of silk fabrics were carried out using mordants such as alum, harda (myrobalan), and copper sulfate. UV-visible spectrophotometric analysis of fruit shell extract (FSE) at different pHs and FSE with three different mordants at neutral pH was used to understand the phenomena of dye-fiber interaction. The treated fabrics characterised by ATR-FTIR, SEM-EDS, and XRD analysis indicate the nature of dye fiber interaction justifying the multifunctional properties. The treated fabric also showed very good ultraviolet protection property and antibacterial properties both against S. aureus and E. coli bacteria even after ten washes. The results indicate that Sterculia foetida fruit shell extract offers an excellent potential as coloration, antibacterial, and ultraviolet protective agent for mulberry silk fabric.

Nazir Ahmad Teli,M. Mohamed Sheik Sirajuddeen 한국물리학회 2019 Current Applied Physics Vol.19 No.4

Full Potential Linearised Augmented Plane Wave (FP-LAPW) method was used to investigate the electronic and magnetic properties of NiO doped with Hf and Ta within the frame work of density functional theory (DFT). NiO is found to be stable in rock salt structure. NiO shows conducting characteristics for the lattice constant of 4.155 Å. Doping Hf and Ta in the metallic super cell of NiO separately in the doping concentration of 12.5%, the compounds Hf0.125Ni0.875O and Ta0.125Ni0.875O are formed. These compounds of Hf0.125Ni0.875O and Ta0.125Ni0.875O are predicted to exhibit stability in the ferromagnetic phase. The density of states and band structure plots predict that these compounds exhibit half metallic character with formation of energy gap in one of the spins at the Fermi level. The total spin magnetic moments found in these compounds are 12.00689 μB and 10.97628 μB.

Off Label Use of Eltrombopag and Recombinant Activated Factor VII in Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome. A Case Report and Review of Literature

        Alkistis Adramerina,Nancy Chainoglou,Stamatia Theodoridou,Aikaterini Teli,Marina Economou 대한소아혈액종양학회 2022 Clinical Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Vol.29 No.1

Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is characterized by eczema, recurrent infections and microthrombocytopenia, with the latter being the most consistent finding in the course of the disease. The present case report describes a pediatric patient with WAS and severe bleeding phenotype resulting from a very low platelet count. In order to limit platelet transfusions and related risk of allo-immunization, use of recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa) for treatment of bleeding was decided. In addition, pro-phylactic treatment with eltrombopag was attempted, in order to increase platelet count and limit bleeding episodes. Management of the patient with the above men-tioned agents led to a significant improvement in his clinical course and overall qual-ity of life. This is the first report on off-label use of rFVIIa in a WAS patient. With regards to the off-label use of thrombopoietic agents in pediatric WAS patients, lim-ited data is available and is reviewed in the report.

An all chemical route to design a hybrid battery-type supercapacitor based on ZnCo2O4/CdS composite nanostructures

        Dipali S. Patil,Aviraj M. Teli,최원준,Sachin A. Pawar,신재철,김효진 한국물리학회 2020 Current Applied Physics Vol.20 No.12

Recently, spinel-type binary metal oxides have attracted enormous interest in energy storage devices. In supercapacitors improving energy density is still challenging task and the composite nanostructures are found to address this issue in some extent. Herein, a composite nanostructure based on ZnCo2O4/CdS was synthesized on nickel foam using hydrothermal and successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) methods. A hydrothermally synthesized ZnCo2O4 nanoflowers were coated by CdS nanoparticles by varying SILAR cycles and studied its electrochemical performance. The ZnCo2O4/CdS nanostructured electrode with optimized four SILAR cycles of CdS coating exhibited a high areal capacity, energy density and power density of 2658 mCcm 2, 517 μWhcm 2 and 17.5 mWcm 2 at 25 mA, which is higher than pristine ZnCo2O4. This work show ZnCo2O4/CdS nanostructure is a favorable electrode for supercapacitors.

Immune response and antioxidant status of broilers as influenced by oxidized vegetable oil and pomegranate peel

        ( Mohammad Ghasemi-Sadabadi ),( Yahya Ebrahimnezhad ),( Naser Maheri-Sis ),( Jamshid Ghiasi Ghalehkandi ),( Abdolahad Shaddel-Teli ) 한국축산학회 2021 한국축산학회지 Vol.63 No.5

The experiment was designed as a 3 × 3 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments, including (i) pomegranate peel (zero, 4%, and 8 percent), (ii) oxidized soybean oil (zero, 2%, and 4 percent), and (iii) alpha-tocopherol (zero and 200 mg/kg). Supplementation of 8% pomegranate peel in diets significantly decreased the growth performance of broiler chickens. The supplementation of 4% oxidized oil in diets significantly reduced body weight gain and Feed intake whole experimental period (p < 0.05). The results showed that supplementation of 4% pomegranate peel in the diet was associated with low aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase, and malondialdehyde (MDA). However, 4% pomegranate peel increased the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities. The supplemental 4% oxidized oil increased the serum AST, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and MDA concentrations. TAC, SOD, and Catalase (CAT) activities were affected by 4% oxidized oil and alpha-tocopherol. The use of oxidized oil and vitamin E decreased MDA concentration. The serum glucose and globulin concentrations were significantly lower in the 8% pomegranate peel. The results showed that supplementation with 4% pomegranate peel in diets reduced serum low-density lipoprotein (LDL). The inclusion of 4% oxidized oil in diets reduced serum glucose and increased the blood lipid concentration such as triglyceride, cholesterol and LDL. Vitamin E supplementation reduced the serum cholesterol and LDL concentrations. The use of 8% pomegranate peel reduced red blood cell (RBC), hemoglobin, and packed cell value (PCV). The results indicated that supplementation with 8% pomegranate peel and 4% oxidized oil in diets decreased the immunoglobulin concentration in broilers. In addition, it was found that the inclusion of 4% pomegranate peel in diets resulted in higher IgG, IgM and total immunoglobulin. Pomegranate peel supplementation significantly decreased meat MDA concentration. Supplementation of 4% oxidized oil increased MDA of meat (p < 0.05). Vitamin E supplementation (200 mg/kg) significantly decreased MDA of meat (p < 0.05). Consequently, the results of this experiment showed that supplementation with 4% pomegranate peel had beneficial effects on broiler chickens. It was also found that feeding 2% oxidized oil in diets had no adverse effect on broilers.

Relationships of Fall Risk With Frailty, Sarcopenia, and Balance Disturbances in Mild-to-Moderate Alzheimer’s Disease

        Merve Güner Oytun,Semra Topuz,Arzu Okyar Baş,Süheyla Çöteli,Zeynep Kahyaoğlu,İlker Boğa,Serdar Ceylan,Burcu Balam Doğu,Mustafa Cankurtaran,Meltem Halil 대한신경과학회 2023 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.19 No.3

hence it commonly coexists with balance issues. Frailty and sarcopenia are intertwined and prevalent in dementia, and are closely related to falls. We aimed to determine the relationships of the fall risk with balance disturbances, sarcopenia, and frailty in mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Methods The study enrolled 56 patients with probable AD. A comprehensive geriatric assessment was performed, and muscle strength and mass, performance status, gait, and balance were evaluated. All parameters were compared between fallers and nonfallers with AD. Results Fallers comprised 53.6% of the study population. The demographic features and AD stages did not differ between fallers and nonfallers. Fallers were more frail than nonfallers (p<0.05). Frailty was found to be independently associated with fall history (odds ratio=2.15, 95% confidence interval=1.20–3.82, p=0.031). We found that falls were not associated with AD stage, muscle mass and function, balance and geriatric syndromes except urinary incontinence in patients with AD (p>0.05). Conclusions We found that falls were not influenced by AD stage. Both physical and cumulative frailty were strongly associated with falls in patients with mild-to-moderate AD.
