A Korean indigenous species, Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis (PBS), is popularly reared at many insect farms as valuable industrial insect resources in South Korea. However, there is no comprehensive study on the genetic diversity within the Korean PBS population as well as between morphologically closed species. Employing the rapidly evolved genetic markers such as mitochondrial DNA is important in the detection of haplotype diversity and rapid species identification of larval stage and/or its processed goods. We here examined how many genetically different haplotypes distribute in the reared PBS collected from 14 insect farms and the interspecific genetic difference between congeners using mitochondrial COI gene sequences (DNA barcoding region). As a results, the PBS was clearly separated from two related species with large genetic distances (7.98%~8.86%). In the PBS, 57 haplotypes were detected from 223 specimens with low intraspecific genetic distance (~1.3%). Among them, the most dominant haplotypes are subsequently detected in H4 (25.6%), H38 (15.7%) and H26 (10.3%). From the haplotype network and distribution analyses, we consider that many haplotypes have been mixed by artificial collections from various local places and exchanged between insect farms within South Korea. We expect that this data will be helpful in rapid species identification for its processed goods, and understanding the exact population diversity and detection of the original habitats for each haplotype of the reared PBS throughout comparing with natural populations in the further study.

This taxonomic study on the genus Scutellathous is only recognized a species. S. porrecticollis (Lewis, 1894) in Korea. The previous record of Athous (=Medakathous) jactatus (Lewis, 1984) is revealed as the misientification of S. porrecticollis. We also describe and illustrate Subscutellathous koreanicus gen. and sp. nov. from Korea. This new genus si compared to the most closed genus Scutellathous by the basis of diagnostic characters in generic level.

For reviewing Korean species of Denticollinae and reconstructing phylogenetic relationships between subfamilies in Elateridae, three kinds of studies were conducted: 1) taxonomic review based on morphology; 2) DNA barcode for Denticollinae; 3) molecular phylogenetic study of Elateridae using 12 genetic markers. In taxonomic study, a total of 54 species were reviewed including 13 new species and then unrecorded species. In DNA barcoding, six cryptic and/or pseudocryptic species were confirmed by their sympatric or allopatric distribution. We propose a conservative threshold of 3.6% for convenient molecular operational taxonomic unit identification in Denticollinae. From this study, we confirmed that COI sequence is useful for reassessing species diversity for polymorphic and polytypic species occurring in sympatric and allopatric distributions. In molecular phylogenetic study, the phylogenetic inference constructed robust phylogeny with almost very strongly supported nodal values(>90%) and showed that Hypnoidinae, Oxynopterinae and Denticollinae are monophyletic; Elaterinae, Hemiopinae and Melanotinae are a monophyletic group; and two tribes in Denticollinae are paraphyletic, it is needed to reclassify their systematic accounts.
New Record of Ptecticus sinchangensis Ouchi, 1938 (Diptera, Stratiomyidae, Sarginae) in Korea
( Taeman Han ),( Tae Hwa Kang ),( Seung-hyun Kim ),( In Gyun Park ),( Haechul Park ) 한국잠사학회 2018 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.37 No.2
In Korea, species of the genus Ptecticus Loew, 1855 (Family Stratiomyidae) have been known as three species, P. aurifer (Walker, 1854), P. matsumurae Lindner, 1936 and P. japonicus (Thunberg, 1789) (= P. tenebrifer (Walker, 1849)). Additionally, an unrecorded species, P. sinchangensis Ôuchi, 1938, was found in Korea. We therefore report the species for the first time in Korea with morphological diagnosis and key for the identification of the Korean species of the genus. In total, the members of the genus Ptecticus are officially recognized as four species in Korea.

We found the large narcissus fly, Merodon equestris (Fabricius), which has been doubted to occur in Korea. This species is an economically important in management of narcissus and also of quarantine pests. We therefore provide the morphological diagnosis and DNA barcode sequences for rapid species identification of M. equestris based on the five Korean specimens.
A taxonomic review of the genus Acteniceromorphus Kishii, 1955 (Coleoptera; Elateridae) in Korea
( Taeman Han ),( In Gyun Park ),( Haechul Park ) 한국잠사학회 2015 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.31 No.2
The genus Acteniceromorphus is taxonomically reviewed for the first time in Korea. From the previously recorded three species, two species, A. selectus (Candeze, 1894) and A. fulvipennis (Lewis, 1894) are confirmed as misidientification of species which are endemic to Japan. Another species, A. chlamydatus (Lewis, 1894) is unavailable any Korean specimens. Additionally, we found A. ferrugineipennis (Candeze, 1879) as new to Korea. We also provide a comparison of DNA barcoding for two species previously misidentified and the newly recorded species, except A. chlamydatus. DNA barcoding result shows that each species is clearly delimited at species-level from each other by large interspecific genetic distance over 7.2%.
Taxonomic Review of the Genus Hemicrepidius Germar 1839 (Coleoptera: Elateridae) in Korea
Taeman Han,Hae Chul Park,Young Bo Lee,Sangwook Park,Seunghwan Lee 한국응용곤충학회 2012 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2012 No.10
We reviewed the Korean species belonging to the genus Hemicrepidius. Of the previously recorded five species, the specimens known as H. (s. str.) secessus secessus (Candèze, 1873) are confirmed as the misidentification of H. oblongus (Solsky, 1870). The status of H. (s. str.) secessus hallaensis Kishii 2002 is suggested to be raised to species level. We also propose three new species, H. (s. str.) sp1 nov., H. (s. str.) sp2 nov., H. (Miwacrepidius) sp1 nov. from Korea. In Hemicrepidius sensu strito, molecular approaches based on the species recognized from Korea, Russia, and Japan using COI and 16S rRNA genes strongly support that all Korean species and the Russian specimens of H. oblongus are clustered into a monophyletic group, whereas Japanese species might be early and independently divided from the former.
