Evaluation of the Analgesic Effect of Dextromethorphan and its Interaction With Nitric Oxide on Sciatic Nerve Ligated Rats

        Gholamreza Karimi,Kaveh Tabrizian,Ramin Rezaee 사단법인약침학회 2010 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.3 No.1

The symptoms of neuropathic pain are often intractable because they are poorly relieved by conventional analgesics. This therapeutic area remains one of the least satisfactorily managed by current drugs. Effective therapy for this type of pain is lacking, and the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. The present study was undertaken to determine the effect of sciatic nerve ligation on inducing neuropathic pain and to understand the mechanisms involved, and the effect of, an L-nitro-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME)/dextromethorphan combination therapy on reducing neuropathic pain. According to our results, L-NAME and dextromethorphan showed analgesic properties, but only 100 mg/kg L-NAME had an additive effect on the analgesic effects of dextromethorphan. Our observations support the idea that N-methyl-D-aspartate/nitric oxide pathways play an important role in the development of such sciatic nerve ligated-evoked pathological pain conditions, thus this combination therapy could be used instead of conventional treatment.

An experimental loading study of a pitching wind turbine airfoil in near- and post-stall regions

Mehran Masdari,Mahbod Seyednia,Arshia Tabrizian 대한기계학회 2018 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.32 No.8

A series of experimental tests was conducted to present an insight into lift characteristics of an oscillating wind turbine airfoil at nearand post-stall regions. Due to the unsteady nature of the flow around a wind turbine, the blades are subjected to oscillating motions and consequently, unsteady phenomena occur, dynamic stall in particular. Therefore, the unsteady lift of wind turbine blades is of considerable importance in performance and estimation of a wind turbine lifespan. In the current study, at Re = 420000, a detailed survey of parameters affecting lift characteristics in the hysteresis loops are carried out for the critical section of a 660 kW wind turbine blade. To investigate the effects of reduced frequency, mean angle of attack (AOA) and amplitude of oscillation, the characteristics of lift hysteresis loops including maximum lift, width of the loop, crossover point (if exists) and the normal force defect (NFD) are compared qualitatively and quantitatively. The results indicate that increase of reduced frequency leads to decrease in lift curve slope and delay in maximum lift occurrence. Furthermore, the lift curves are the evidence of strong dependence of lift characteristics on mean AOA and amplitude of pitching motion. Increase of amplitude makes the airfoil enter the post-stall region and hence, it delays the maximum lift occurrence. Entering the post-stall region, the airfoil encounters deeper dynamic stall. Also, approaching to post-stall region makes the clockwise part of the loops more dominant.

Comparison of Placenta PCR and Maternal Serology of Aborted Women for Detection of Toxoplasma gondii in Ardabil, Iran

        Somaie Matin,Gholamreza Shahbazi,Shervin Tabrizian Namin,Rouhallah Moradpour,Hadi Piri-dogahe 대한기생충학ㆍ열대의학회 2017 The Korean Journal of Parasitology Vol.55 No.6

Primary maternal infection with toxoplasmosis during pregnancy is frequently associated with transplacental transmission of the parasite to the fetus. This study was conducted to test the utility of PCR assay to detect recent infections with Toxoplasma in aborted women at various gestational ages who referred to Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Alavi Hospital in Ardabil during 2014 and 2016. Two hundred women with a history of single or repeated abortion were investigated in this study. Blood samples were tested for specific anti-Toxoplasma IgM and IgG antibodies by ELISA. According to the results, 53.5% of the women under study were positive for anti-Toxoplasma antibodies: 4.0% of them had IgM, 43.0% had IgG, and 6.5% had both IgM and IgG. Subsequently, Nested-PCR analysis was used to detect T. gondii DNA in the placenta of subjects. In 10.5% of the women, the results were positive for 529 bp element of T. gondii. Among them, 5 (23.8%) cases were IgM positive, 1 (4.8%) case was IgG positive, and 11 (52.4%) were both IgM and IgG positive. In 4 (19.0%) patients, none of the antibodies were found to be positive. In total, 16 patients had positive results in both ELISA and PCR methods, and 174 cases had negative results for new infection. The findings of this study revealed that T. gondii might be one of the significant factors leading to abortion, and that the analysis of placenta can be important in order to achieve increased detection sensitivity.

Experimental investigation of a supercritical airfoil boundary layer in pitching motion

        Mehran Masdari,Mohsen Jahanmiri,Mohammad Reza Soltani,Arshia Tabrizian,Mohammad Gorji 대한기계학회 2017 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.31 No.1

In this study, the boundary layer velocity profile on the upper surface of a supercritical airfoil in a forced sinusoidal pitching motion was measured and experimentally investigated. Measurements were performed using a boundary layer rake, including total pressure tubes positioned at 25 % of the chord far from the leading edge on the upper surface. For static measurements, the effects of the angle ofattack between −3° and 14° and free-stream velocity between 40m sand 70m swere investigated; for dynamic measurements, theeffects of oscillation amplitude variation between ±3° and ±10°, reduced frequency from 0.007 to 0.0313, and mean angle of attack between −3° and 6° were studied during one oscillation cycle. Results indicated that the boundary layer thickness decreased in upstroke motion. Increasing the oscillation frequency led to the extension of hysteresis loops. Fast Fourier transform was used on pressure signals to study the amplitude of the dominant frequency in the velocity profile. Spectral analysis showed that the dominant forced frequency of oscillation in the boundary layer and the amplitude of this frequency were varied by increasing the reduced frequency and other parameters.

Effects of Quercetin and Resveratrol on Zinc Chloride- and Sodium Metavanadate-Induced Passive Avoidance Memory Retention Deficits in Male Mice

        Mahmoud Hashemzaei,Sahar Fanoudi,Mohadeseh Najari,Mansoureh Fotouhi,Maryam Belaran,Najmeh Sadat Alipour,Zahra Dadrezaei,Fatemeh Miri,Kaveh Tabrizian 한국식품영양과학회 2021 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.26 No.1

Quercetin and resveratrol are found in a variety of fruits and vegetables and have several biological and pharmacological properties. In this study, the effects of quercetin [50 mg/kg, intraperitoneal (i.p.)] and resveratrol (50 mg/kg, i.p.) on zinc chloride (ZnCl₂; 75 mg/kg/d, 2 weeks oral gavage) and sodium metavanadate (SMV; 22.5 mg/kg/d, 2 weeks oral gavage) induced passive avoidance memory retention were investigated in step-through passive avoidance tasks. ZnCl₂ was dissolved in saline and SMV was dissolved in drinking water. Mice received ZnCl₂ or SMV orally for two weeks and were administered quercetin or resveratrol by i.p. injection on day 14, days 12 and 14, or days 10, 12, and 14. At the end of treatment, animals were trained for one day in a step-through passive avoidance task, then alterations in avoidance memory retention were evaluated after 24, 48, 96, and 168 h. Oral consumption of ZnCl₂ and SMV decreased latency time compared with control groups. Both quercetin and resveratrol (50 mg/kg, i.p.) prevented ZnCl₂- and SMV-induced avoidance memory retention impairments and did not significantly alter muscle strength, as demonstrated in rotarod tasks. No significant differences were observed between mice who received single, double, or triple doses of quercetin or resveratrol. The results suggest that quercetin and resveratrol may have preventive effects on ZnCl₂- and SMV-induced memory impairment in male mice.
