Magneto-rheological engine mount design and experimental characterization
Tamer Türkücü,Ömer Keleş 대한기계학회 2018 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.32 No.11
Isolation mounts using magneto-rheological (MR) fluid have increasing potential for various applications. This paper introduces new design and manufacturing aspects of MR engine mounts. CAD software was used to design MR mounts and three different types of MR mount prototypes were considered. Later, magnetostatic analyses were performed to validate the designed configuration of the electromagnetic coil, which controlled the MR fluid flow. The MR mounts were manufactured and, then, tested statically and dynamically using a servo-hydraulic rate machine. Static tests were performed with amplitudes between 0-10 mm. Dynamic tests were performed under excitation frequencies in between 0-100 Hz with amplitudes of ±0.1 mm, ±0.5 mm, ±1.0 mm and ±2.0 mm as well as under excitation frequencies in between 0-20 Hz with amplitudes of ±3.0 mm, ±4.0 mm. Besides the MR mounts, hydro mount and elastomeric top were tested adopting the same procedure. The finding of different mount properties was explained and MR mount characteristics in frequency domain were demonstrated. In addition, the measured characteristics were compared with each other for hydraulic mount and elastomeric top.

Background and Purpose Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease characterizedby inflammatory demyelination. Recent studies have shown that long-term exposure to air pollutants(including PM10 particulates) is potentially an environmental risk factor for MS. Weaimed to determine the prevalence rates of MS in two cities with different levels of air pollution. Methods This door-to-door population-based study was conducted between April 2014 andJune 2015. Two cities were screened for the prevalence rates of MS: 1) Karabük, which bordersan iron-and-steel factory, and 2) Akçakoca, which is a coastal city located in the same region. A validated survey form was used for screening MS. The 2010 McDonald Criteria were usedfor diagnosing MS. The patients were examined twice, first by a neurology assistant in the fieldand then by a senior neurologist in public health centers in the cities. Results The prevalence of MS was 95.9/100,000 in Karabük and 46.1/100,000 in Akçakoca. Intotal, 33 patients were diagnosed with clinically definite MS. The female/male ratio was 1.5, and21 patients were diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS, 9 with secondary progressive MS, and3 with primary progressive MS. Conclusions We found that the prevalence of MS was more than two fold higher in Karabükthan in Akçakoca, which supports a link between air pollution and the pathogenesis of MS. However, larger etiological and epidemiological studies are needed to confirm this hypothesis.

Cezmi Çağrı Türk,Niyazi Nefi Kara,Dinç Süren,Çağatay Özdöl,Tolga Gediz,Sevim Yıldız3 대한척추외과학회 2015 Asian Spine Journal Vol.9 No.4
Study Design: The retrospective analysis of intramedullary hemangiopericytomas (HPCs) was performed, and the entity was discussed in accordance with the literature findings. Purpose: This study aimed at defining distinctive characteristic features of intramedullary HPC with respect to surgical approach and prognosis. Overview of Literature: Intramedullary HPCs are extremely rare tumors. They originate from capillary pericytes, supposedly follow the vessels over the spinal cord, and infiltrate deep into the spinal cord without a distinct plane. Their treatments and prognosis are not well-defined in the literature. Methods: Our database was retrospectively reviewed for the cases of HPCs. Later on, a literature search was performed to reveal all reported cases of intramedullary HPCs. The following key words were searched in PubMed databases: “hemangiopericytoma and intramedullary,” “hemangiopericytoma and spine (spinal) and intradural,” and “hemangiopericytoma and spinal cord.” The articles were reviewed for patients’ demographics features, imaging characteristics, tumor-specific factors (surgical technique, pathological descriptions, and world health organization grades), and postoperative course and prognosis (adjuvant therapies, recurrences, complications, and mortalities). Results: A total of seven patients (three male and four female) was reached, with their ages ranging from 15 to 80 years (mean, 32.5 years). The tumors were located majorly in thoracic region (5/7, 71.4%), and only two cases were in the cervical region (2/7, 28.6%). All tumors were completely removed, and only two cases received radiotherapy. No recurrence was reported. Conclusions: Complete resection of the intramedullary HPCs seems to be the best management strategy for long-term and recurrence- free survival and in alleviating further need for radiotherapy.
‘Populism as a medium of mass mobilization’: The case of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan
H Bahadir Türk 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2018 International Area Studies Review Vol.21 No.2
It goes without saying that Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has put his mark on the last 14 years of Turkish politics. The main argument of this study is that the case of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan provides an illustrative example to make sense of populism as a medium of mass mobilization. Furthermore, it is argued that Erdoğan’s leadership can be best understood by taking into account how he manages political crises. Accordingly, through the examples of 2007, 2013 and 2016, which mark critical periods in Turkish politics, the article attempts to highlight the major characteristics of Erdoğan’s populist leadership.

In this work, we study the conditions between null geodesic curves and timelike ruled surfaces in dual Lorentzian space. For this study, we establish a system of differential equations characterizing timelike ruled surfaces in dual Lorentzian space by using the invariant quantities of null geodesic curves on the given ruled surfaces. We obtain the solutions of these systems for special cases. Regarding to these special solutions, we give some results of the relations between null geodesic curves and timelike ruled surfaces in dual Lorentzian space.
Optimum design of partially prestressed concrete beams using Genetic Algorithms
Erdem Türkeli,Hasan Tahsin Öztürk 국제구조공학회 2017 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.64 No.5
This paper deals with the optimum cost design of partially prestressed concrete I crosssectioned beams by using Genetic Algorithms. For this purpose, the optimum cost design of two selected example problems that have different characteristics in behavior are performed via Genetic Algorithms by determining their objective functions, design variables and constraints. The results obtained from the technical literature are compared with the ones obtained from this study. The interpretation of the results show that the design of partially prestressed concrete I crossectioned beams from cost point of view by using Genetic Algorithms is 35~50 % more economical than the traditional ones (technical literature) without conceding safety.

One of the most critical disputes in the Post-Soviet space is the long-lasting Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia. While this issue has long been regarded as a land-based dispute to a large extent, it can also be stated from the securitization perspective that it is a conflict inherent in ethnic identity. The proposed way to solve a problem in the securitization approach is the desecuritization of the issue. However, negotiations conducted by the Minsk Group on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which were initiated within the framework of the OSCE, did not yield any results. In this context, the process of resolving the issue through negotiations, in other words, desecuritization, failed. This has led to the re-securitization of the problem and paved the way for taking extraordinary measures to come to a solution. The final military confrontation experienced in 2020 has also been triggered specifically by this approach.

Fatih Battal,Hakan Türkön,Nilüfer Aylanç,Hakan Aylanç,Şule Yıldırım,Nazan Kaymaz,Sema Uysal 대한소아소화기영양학회 2018 Pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology & nutrition Vol.21 No.2
Purpose: The prevalence of obesity has significantly increased among children and adolescents worldwide and is becoming an important health care problem in parallel with the increased prevalence of obesity pediatric non-alco-holic fatty liver disease. Betatrophin is a newly define hormone that is commonly secreted by liver and plays role in glucose tolerance. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum betatrophin levels and non-alco-holic fatty liver disease in obese children. Methods: The study included 40 obese children with a body mass index (BMI) above 95th centile, and 35 non-obese subjects with a BMI 3-85th centile, whose age and gender were similar to those of the patient group. For the evaluation of metabolic parameters fasting serum glucose, insulin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, lipid profile and serum betatrophin levels were measured. Total cholesterol: high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol: high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratios were calculated as “atherogenicindices.”Results: Serum betatrophin levels of the obese subjects were similar to that of non-obese subjects (p=0.90). Betatrophin levels were not correlated with the metabolic parameters. Conclusion: In the present study, levels of betatrophin are not different between obese and insulin resistant children and non-obese subjects, and they are not correlated with atherogenic indices. To elucidate the exact role of beta-trophin in obesity, further studies are required to identify the betatrophin receptor and/or other possible cofactors.
Fetal programming: could intrauterin life affect health status in adulthood?
( Hande Nur Onur Öztürk ),( Perim Fatma Türker ) 대한산부인과학회 2021 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.64 No.6
Intrauterine life is one of the most important periods of life. As the development of the fetus continues, the mechanisms that affect adult health also begin to mature. With the hypothesis denoted “fetal programming,” it is thought that the presence of endocrinological disorders, toxins, infectious agents, the nutritional status of a mother, and nutrients related to placental functionality all have an effect on future life. Therefore, the fetus must adapt to the environment for survival. These adaptations may be involved the redistribution of metabolic, hormonal, or cardiac outputs in an effort to protect the brain, which is one of the important organs, as well as the slowing of growth to meet nutritional requirements. Unlike lifestyle changes or treatments received in adult life, the early developmental period tends to have a lasting effect on the structure and functionality of the body. In this review, fetal programming and the effects of fetal programming are discussed.
