The defatted methanol extract of bark of Diospyros malabarica (DM) at doses of 200 and 400 mg/ kg, p.o. showed significant hypoglycemic activity on normal rats. The extract also exerted significant antihyperglycemic effect in alloxan-induced hyperglycemia and resulted in increase in plasma protein content and decrease in alkaline phosphatase, cholesterol and triglyceride levels when compared with those in the diabetic control group. However there were no significant changes in body and kidney weights of the DM extract-treated animals, compared to those of the untreated diabetic rats as a control. However, the DM extract showed a potential antioxidant activity by increasing catalase activity and reducing lipid peroxidation in liver. The results demonstrate antidiabetic activity of the defatted methanol extract of DM bark. EXTENSION OF EGERVÀRY THEOREM ON OPTIMAL SOLUTION OF ASSIGNMENT PROBLEM: LOGICAL APPROACH
Susanta Kumar Mohanta,Prasanta Kumar Das 경남대학교 기초과학연구소 2020 Nonlinear Functional Analysis and Applications Vol.25 No.3
A technique to solve the balanced linear assignment problem is introduced using graph theory and is based on logical approach. In the method, the aim is to find a matching in which the sum of weights of the edges is as large as possible, in a weighted bipartite graph. Generally it consists of finding a minimum-weight perfect matching and is a specialization of the maximum weight matching problem for bipartite graphs. The concept of decision matrix ([1]) is applied for finding last two assignments.

Annona reticulata belonging to the family Annonaceae is traditionally used as anthelmintic and it is reported to have anticancer activity. Free radicals are known to be involved in various types of diseases like cancer, diabetes, neurological disorders etc. The present study was aimed to evaluate free radical scavenging property of methanol extract of the leaves of Annona reticulata in some in vitro models e.g. DPPH, nitric oxide, superoxide and lipid peroxide radical model. The extract showed good dose-dependent free radical scavenging property in all the models. IC50 values were found to be 3.22, 170.01, 25.12 and 140.12 μg/ml respectively in DPPH, nitric oxide, superoxide and lipid peroxidation inhibition assays. Reductive ability of the extract was also tested based on potassium ferricyanide reduction where dose dependant reducing capability was observed. Measurement of total phenolic compounds by Folin-Ciocalteu’s phenol reagent indicated that 1mg of the extract contained 146.20 μg equivalent of pyrocatechol. The findings ascertain promising free radical scavenging property of the extract and the antioxidant property of the extract may be due to the high content of phenolic compounds. <P>Fabrication of semiconductor thin films with uniform and vertically aligned one-dimensional nanostructures is an active area of research. We report the synthesis of vertically aligned nanograss (NG)-structured SnO2 thin films on a wide range of substrates with a vapor-solid deposition process. In this process, some chemical and physical parameters, such as chemical composition, deposition height from the precursor mixture, deposition temperature, and substrate roughness, are found to play key roles during the growth of SnO2 nanograsses (SNGs). The effects of density change and cross-sectional dimension (width) of the nanograsses (NGs) on surface area improvement of the thin films have been examined by varying the respective parameters. BiVO4 (BV) solution layers were coated onto SNG, forming core-shell type-II heterojunction thin films (SNG-BV). The thickness of the drop-cast BiVO4 solution layers onto the NGs was controlled by the number density of the NGs per unit area. Light absorption efficiency (ηabs) of the core-shell SNG-BV films has been optimized by controlling quasi-arranged periodicity of the core NGs and accessible shell thickness of BiVO4 layers. The charge separation efficiency (ηsep) of SNG-BV films strongly depends on the thickness of the BiVO4 layers onto NGs. Thin layers of BiVO4 coating along the axial direction of thinner SnO2 NGs (25-50 nm) shows enhanced ηsep but lower ηabs due to poor light absorption. On the other hand, the thicker core NGs (40-200 nm) with low surface area provide thick layers of BiVO4, which drives strong light absorption but suffers from efficient ηsep. However, intermediate layers of BiVO4 onto uniformly arranged SnO2 NGs with 30-70 nm width shows enhanced ηabs as well as efficient ηsep compared to other SNG-BV samples. This result demonstrates that control over the horizontal dimension of the core materials in the core-shell heterojunction (keeping vertical restriction) is a viable approach for optimizing the photoelectrochemical efficiency.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Free vibration of Levy-type rectangular laminated plates using efficient zig-zag theory
Behera, Susanta,Kumari, Poonam Techno-Press 2018 Advances in computational design Vol.3 No.3
First time, an exact solution for free vibration of the Levy-type rectangular laminated plate is developed considering the most efficient Zig-Zag theory (ZIGT) and third order theory (TOT). The plate is subjected to hard simply supported boundary condition (Levy-type) along x axis. Using the equilibrium equations and the plate constitutive relations, a set of 12 m first order differential homogenous equations are obtained, containing displacements and stress resultant as primary variables. The natural frequencies of a single-layer isotropic, multi-layer composites and sandwich plates are tabulated for three values of length-to-thickness ratio (S) and five set of boundary conditions and further assessed by comparing with existing literature and recently developed 3D EKM (extended Kantorovich method) solution. It is found that for the symmetric composite plate, TOT produces better results than ZIGT. For antisymmetric and sandwich plates, ZIGT predicts the frequency for different boundary conditions within 3% error with respect to 3D elasticity solution while TOT gives 10% error. But, ZIGT gives better predictions than the TOT concerning the displacement and stress variables.
