Unconventional resources in Algeria: appraisal result from the Hamra Quartzite reservoir

        Soumya Benayad,박영수,Rabah Chaouchi,Naima Kherfi 한국지질과학협의회 2013 Geosciences Journal Vol.17 No.3

Unconventional resources have been widely discovered within the Ordovician rocks (Hamra Quartzite reservoir) of a number of basins in Algeria, including the giant Hassi Messaoud oil-field. This study aims to provide an appraisal of the major characteristics of the Hamra Quartzite reservoir within the southern peripheral area of the Hassi Messaoud field. Petrographically, quartz grains in this reservoir are considered to be mature quartz arenites characterized by pervasive quartz overgrowth. Reservoir porosity is dominated by secondary intergranular dissolution porosity. The diagenetic sequence of the Hamra Quartzite reservoir occurred in three phases: eodiagenesis (early), mesodiagenesis (mid), and telodiagenesis (late) phases. These phases are directly related to tectonic events that affected the study area, and are controlled mainly by the Hercynian unconformity. The Hamra Quartzite reservoir was highly silicified during the pre-Hercynian phase. Compaction and cementation are the principal factors controlling reservoir degradation. The reservoir is faulted and fractured, and fractures ranging from partially open to closed are observed in cores. Petrophysically, the reservoir displays low porosity and permeability values. However, moderately porous and permeable sandstone is present toward the southeastern part of the studied reservoir.

Sentiment Analysis of Malayalam Tweets using Machine Learning techniques is done in this paper. The tweets are classified into positive and negative using different machine learning techniques such as Naive Bayes (NB), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Random Forest (RF). The different features like Bag of Words (BOW), Term Frequency vs. Inverse Document Frequency (TF IDF), Unigram with Sentiwordnet, and Unigram with Sentiwordnet including negation words are considered for feature vector formation of input dataset. The Random Forest classifier shows higher accuracy while considering Unigram with Sentiwordnet including negation words as a feature.

      • Comparison of Optimized Chargepads for Wireless EV Charging Application

        Soumya Bandyopadhyay,Jianning Dong,Zian Qin,Pavol Bauer 전력전자학회 2019 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2019 No.5

Inductive power transfer (IPT) is becoming increasingly popular in stationary electric vehicle charging systems. In this paper, the influence of the different IPT coupler geometries on the performance factors efficiency, power density, misalignment tolerance, and stray field is studied. Five different coupler topologies namely the circular, rectangular, double-D (DDDD) and the double-D transmitter with double-D-Quadrature receiver (DD-DDQ) are considered in this study. The electromagnetic behavior of the couplers is modeled using three-dimensional finite element analysis. To ensure a fair quantitative comparison, a multi-objective optimization framework is developed to analyze the Pareto trade-offs between conflicting performance metrics like power densities, efficiencies, and misalignment tolerance for all the considered coupler topologies.

Influence of Temperature and Humidity on Pregnancy Rate of Murrah Buffaloes under Subtropical Climate

        Soumya Dash,A. K. Chakravarty,V. Sah,V. Jamuna,R. Behera,N. Kashyap,B. Deshmukh 아세아·태평양축산학회 2015 Animal Bioscience Vol.28 No.7

Heat stress has adverse effects on fertility of dairy animals. Decline in fertility is linearly associated with an increase in combination of both temperature and humidity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between temperature humidity index (THI) and the pregnancy rate of Murrah buffaloes in a subtropical climate. The effects of genetic and non-genetic factors viz., sire, parity, period of calving and age group at first calving were found non-significant on pregnancy rate. The effect of THI was found significant (p<0.001) on pregnancy rate of Murrah buffaloes calved for first time and overall pregnancy rate. The threshold THI affecting the pregnancy rate was identified as THI 75. The months from October to March showed THI<75 and considered as non heat stress zone (NHSZ), while months from April to September were determined as heat stress zone (HSZ) with THI≥75. The lowest overall pregnancy rate (0.25) was obtained in July with THI 80.9, while the highest overall pregnancy rate (0.59) was found in November with THI 66.1. May and June were identified as critical heat stress zone (CHSZ) within the HSZ with maximum decline (−7%) in pregnancy rate with per unit increase in THI. The highest overall pregnancy rate was estimated as 0.45 in NHSZ with THI value 56.7 to 73.2. The pregnancy rate was found to have declined to 0.28 in HSZ with THI 73.5 to 83.7. However, the lowest pregnancy rate was estimated as 0.27 in CHSZ with THI value 80.3 to 81.6.

      • Metabolomics affirms traditional alcoholic beverage raksi as a remedy for high-altitude sickness

        Soumya Majumder,Arindam Ghosh,Sourav Chakraborty,Sumedha Saha,Malay Bhattacharya 한국식품연구원 2021 Journal of Ethnic Foods Vol.8 No.-

Raksi, a fermented distilled alcoholic beverage, is an ethnic drink consumed in high altitude regions of Singalila Ridge of the Himalayas and in adjoining high altitude places in Nepal, northern and north eastern part of India and Tibetan plateau. Like jaanr, tongba, nigar, chhyang, and other fermented ethnic beverages, raksi is considered as an element of ethnopharmacology of high altitude with claims of medicinal properties. An ethnobiological survey was done in the study area prior to collection and identification of raksi samples. In this research, two raksi samples (khokim raksi and chimphing raksi) of Singalila Ridge of the Himalayas were investigated by metabolite profiling using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. Results of the experiment showed presence of several respiratory protective, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant components which have properties to prevent various high altitude illnesses. Moreover, large quantities of bioactive terpenoids, fatty acid derivatives, coumarins, and peptides were detected whose chemotaxonomy and biosynthesis pathways were further studied. This metabolomics investigation not only affirmed Raksi as a remedy for high-altitude sickness but also helped in understanding the importance of this type of ethnic foods in high altitude ethnoecology. This research on raksi in the fields of ethnobiology and metabolomics is a cumulative approach which has opened the door for in-depth investigations on similar ethnic foods. However, further experiments on raksi are surely needed in ethnobiology, microbiology, biochemistry, and food technology.

Robust optimization of reinforced concrete folded plate and shell roof structure incorporating parameter uncertainty

Soumya Bhattacharjya,Subhasis Chakraborti,Subhashis Das 국제구조공학회 2015 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.56 No.5

There is a growing trend of considering uncertainty in optimization process since last few decades. In this regard, Robust Design Optimization (RDO) scheme has gained increasing momentum because of its virtue of improving performance of structure by minimizing the variation of performance and ensuring necessary safety and feasibility of constraint under uncertainty. In the present study, RDO of reinforced concrete folded plate and shell structure has been carried out incorporating uncertainty in the relevant parameters by Monte Carlo Simulation. Folded plate and shell structures are among the new generation popular structures often used in aesthetically appealing constructions. However, RDO study of such important structures is observed to be scarce. The optimization problem is formulated as cost minimization problem subjected to the force and displacements constraints considering dead, live and wind load. Then, the RDO is framed by simultaneously optimizing the expected value and the variation of the performance function using weighted sum approach. The robustness in constraint is ensured by adding suitable penalty term and through a target reliability index. The RDO problem is solved by Sequential Quadratic Programming. Subsequently, the results of the RDO are compared with conventional deterministic design approach. The parametric study implies that robust designs can be achieved by sacrificing only small increment in initial cost, but at the same time, considerable quality and guarantee of the structural behaviour can be ensured by the RDO solutions.

Dielectrically Modulated Hetero Channel Double Gate MOSFET as a Label Free Biosensor

        Soumya S. Mohanty,Sikha Mishra,Meryleen Mohapatra,Guru Prasad Mishra 한국전기전자재료학회 2022 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.23 No.2

A dielectric modulation (DM) highly sensitive InP/InGaAs/InP hetero channel dual material double gate MOSFET (H-DMDG MOSFET) is designed and simulated for accurate identifi cation of the bio-targets such as protein, streptavidin, uricase, biotin, APTES, and Keratin. Group III–V based materials are considered for biosensor design for its chemical inertness, high temperature/power ability, and high carrier velocity. Nanogap cavity is incorporated near the source and drain ends within the gate dielectric for sensing the neutral and charged analytes. The simulated parameters of the proposed structure are analyzed by varying dielectric constant and the charge density of the biomolecules. The infl uence of both the biomolecules on the electrical features like surface potential, drain current, electric fi eld, and sensitivity have been examined. The highest sensitivity of 0.513 and a lower electric fi eld of 1.98 × 10 6 V/cm is attained at the drain end for K = 8 as compared to other biomolecules.

Recent Epidemiology of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

        ( Soumya Murag ),( Aijaz Ahmed ),( Donghee Kim ) 대한소화기학회 2021 Gut and Liver Vol.15 No.2

The ongoing obesity epidemic and the increasing recognition of metabolic syndrome have contributed to the growing prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the most common form of liver disease worldwide. It is imperative to understand the incidence and prevalence of NAFLD as it is associated with a profound economic burden of hospitalizations, including the shifting trends in liver transplantation. The long-term cumulative healthcare cost of NAFLD patients has been shown to be 80% higher than that of non-NAFLD patients. We explore diagnostic challenges in identifying those with NAFLD who have a higher predilection to progress to end-stage liver disease. We aim to assess all-cause and cause-specific mortality as it relates to NAFLD. (Gut Liver 2021;15:206-216)

Micro- and Macro-Level Factors Determining Financial Performance of UAE Insurance Companies

SASIDHARAN, Soumya,RANJITH, V.K.,PRABHURAM, Sunitha Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.12

The research aims to analyze the firm-specific and macroeconomic factors that affect insurance company's financial performance. The research explores the variables that influence the financial performance of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)' insurance companies. The analysis for determining financial performance considers the following variables: the firm's age, retention ratio, capital adequacy, underwriting risk/loss ratio, financial-leverage, reinsurance dependency, and macro-economic factors such as GDP per capita, inflation rate considered as independent factors. The return-on-asset (ROA) is the key measuring indicator; it is regarded as the dependent variable for financial performance measures. The research focuses on secondary information obtained from insurance companies' financial statements. The researcher targeted 18 insurance companies listed on the UAE stock exchanges for study purposes. The research examines the overall factors that influence the financial performance of an insurance company. For analysis of data, software package of social sciences (SPSS version 20) is used. The studies used correlation and multiple linear regression analysis to determine financial performance and their effects. The analysis suggests that there are important and constructive relationships between the size, capital adequacy, and reinsurance dependency, while loss ratio, retention ratio, and financial leverage indicate a major negative relationship. And there's no link between GDP per capita and inflation.
