When we think about the economy of the 21st century, globalization and multinational enterprises (MNEs) cannot be ignored. Therefore, my Master Thesis is going to look into Anton Paar, a multinational company that is based both in Austria and South Korea, in this case the mother company is based in Graz Austria and their South Korean subsidiary is based in Seoul. When thinking about an MNE the first step of the company is the internationalization process, the journey of coming to the South Korean market. The obstacles that had to be overcome where in the field of law, language, culture and many more. After looking at the internationalization process that was concerned with external factors, an MNE must turn to some of their internal factors. One of the most important internal factors in a globalized economy is knowledge management. Knowledge management of a MNE must figure out how they will transfer their knowledge from the mother company to their subsidiary, how and if they should adapt their original strategy or use some of the knowledge they gain from the subsidiary in different fields of their mother company and other subsidiaries. Another big concern is the management of knowledge loss and what they will do to enforce their employees to share and transcribe their knowledge. These questions and many more are of utmost importance when it comes to an MNE and their way of working in a globalized economy. In my Master Thesis I will try to answer these questions for the company Anton Paar, via semi structured interviews and an intensive literature review.

The purpose of this study was to explore the association between workaholism (working 50 or more hours per week) and personal and mentalwell-being. With time being a scarce resource, it is important to understand the trade-offs involved and the implications that arise from time allocation decisions. Becker (1965) provides a theoretical framework for the allocation of time that lays the groundwork for this understanding.Data were obtained from the 2010 administration of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 (NLSY79). In 2010, the sample ranged in age from 45 to 53. Workaholism was associated with objectively measured physical and mental well-being, but not subjectively measured physical well-being. Policy implications include the development of business practices aimed to reduce the negative impact workaholism can have an employees’ physical and mental well-being, potentially resulting in a healthier and more productive workforce. The results of this study may be enlightening for those directly or indirectly experiencing workaholism to further understand the damaging effects of workaholism on personal well-being. Through increased awareness, personal change may be more likely to occur.

The Impact of Japan’s Rivalry with China on Its Willingness to Pursue Free Trade Agreements

This study explores the main causes that have led Japan to conclude an FTA with ASEAN. This paper appraises JapanASEAN relations and shows that closer relations between Japan and ASEAN have provided momentum for the launch of Japan's FTAs with ASEAN. Consequently, this paper explores the origins and progress of JapanASEAN FTA, as well as the strategies and initiatives embraced by Japan in its FTA negotiations with ASEAN. By examining the domestic, regional, and global factors that led to the launch of the JapanASEAN FTA, this paper concludes that the strategies adopted were primarily aimed at its main rival, China. The rivalry has resulted in both positive and negative consequences for East Asian Regional economic environment. The negative consequences include the creation of a “spaghetti bowl”, which increases costs for Japanese firms operating abroad, and “slows down the progress of the creation of an effective single regional institution”.
