Comprehensive Spinal Tuberculosis Score: A Clinical Guide for the Management of Thoracolumbar Spinal Tuberculosis

        Sonawane Dhiraj Vithal,Kolur Shivaprasad Sharangouda,Pawar Harish Kacharu,Chandanwale Ajay,Pawar Eknath,Jawale Sagar Anant,Vaja Tejas Pragji,Nadwi Safiuddin,Patil Maheshwari Basavangouda 대한척추외과학회 2024 Asian Spine Journal Vol.18 No.1

Study Design: A newly proposed scoring tool was designed to assist in the clinical management of adult thoracolumbar spinal tuberculosis (TB). Purpose: To formulate a comprehensive yet simple scoring tool to guide decision-making in the management of adult thoracolumbar spinal TB. Overview of Literature: Spine surgeons have differing consensus in defining the threshold grade for clinico-radiological parameters when deciding between operative or conservative treatment for adult thoracolumbar spinal TB. Currently, the void in decision-making from the lack of well-defined guidelines is compensated by the surgeon’s experience in treating these patients. To the best of our knowledge, no scoring system holistically integrates multiple facets of spinal TB to guide clinical decision-making. Methods: The RAND/University of California, Los Angeles appropriateness method was employed among an expert panel of 10 spine surgeons from four apex tertiary care centers. Vital characteristics that independently influenced treatment decisions in spinal TB were identified, and a scoring tool was formulated. Points were assigned for each component based on their severity. The cutoff scores to guide clinical management were determined from the receiver operating characteristic curve based on the retrospective records of 151 patients treated operatively or non-operatively with improved functional outcomes at the 1-year follow-up. Results: The components of the comprehensive spinal TB score (CSTS) are pain, kyphosis angle, vertebral destruction, and neurological status. A score classification of <5.5, 5.5–6.5, and >6.5 was established to guide the patient toward conservative, conservative/operative, and operative management, respectively. Conclusions: The CSTS was designed to reflect the essential indicators of mechanical stability, neurological stability, and disease process stabilization in spinal TB. The scoring tool is devised to be practical and serve as a common language in the spine community to facilitate discussions and decision-making in thoracolumbar spinal TB. The validity, reliability, and reproducibility of this tool must be assessed through multicenter long-term studies.

PEDOT:PSS shell on CdS nanowires: Room temperature LPG sensor

        Sonawane, N.B.,Ahire, R.R.,Gurav, K.V.,Kim, J.H.,Sankapal, B.R. Elsevier Sequoia 2014 JOURNAL OF ALLOYS AND COMPOUNDS Vol.592 No.-

Nanoheterojunctions between p-PEDOT:PSS and n-CdS were fabricated by using simple chemical method at room temperature (27oC) on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass substrate. The thin layer of commercially available poly (3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene: poly (styrene sulfonic acid)) (PEDOT:PSS) shell was formed on CdS nanowires by dip-coating method. This formed nanoheterojunction was used as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sensor at room temperature. The formed nanoheterojunction network with porous and high surface area enables enough space to adsorb and de-adsorb gas molecules easily and showed the gas response of 58.9% under the exposure of LPG (900ppm). The results demonstrate that the shell configuration of p-PEDOT:PSS on n-CdS nanowires to form nanoheterojunction which provides a facile and compatible frame for the potential applications as a LPG sensors which can operate at room temperature.

Machinability Study of Duplex Stainless Steel 2205 During Dry Turning

Gaurav D. Sonawane,Vikas G. Sargade 한국정밀공학회 2020 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.21 No.5

Duplex stainless steels (DSS) are preferred replacement to austenitic stainless steel because of their higher strength leadingto economic benefi ts. However, poor ductility and thermal conductivity along with high toughness make them diffi cult tomachine. In the present investigation, tool wear, cutting force and surface roughness were evaluated during dry turning of DSS2205 using tungsten carbide inserts coated with AlTiCrN and AlTiN. High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering techniquewas used for coating the substrates. Cutting speeds of 100, 140 and 180 m/min; feed of 0.12, 0.15, and 0.18 mm/rev, and afi xed depth of cut of 0.8 mm were chosen as cutting parameters for dry turning. AlTiCrN coating exhibited highest adhesionstrength of 110 N compared to 89 N by AlTiN coating. AlTiCrN coated tools exhibited highest tool life of 7840 mm, withleast surface roughness of 0.72 μm and cutting force of 255 N. This is attributed to its excellent physical properties such asgood adhesion, higher oxidation resistance and thermal stability, compared to AlTiN coated tool. AlTiCrN and AlTiN coatedtools exhibited respectively 6-times and 4-times more tool life than uncoated tools. Combination of high speed (180 m/min)and low feed (0.12 mm/rev) resulted in least surface fi nish. Regression model developed from the experimental data showedcloser agreement (95%) between predicted and experimental values of surface roughness.

Fluorescent Bead–DNA Conjugate-based Dual Signal Amplification Technology

Mukesh Digambar Sonawane,Hae Ryong Lee,Satish Balasaheb Nimse,Keum-Soo Song,김태선,김상철 대한화학회 2016 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.37 No.5

One of the major challenges in DNA microarrays for their widespread application is assay sensitivity. Therefore, to achieve higher sensitivity, we developed a dual signal amplification technology based on the fluorescence beads (FB). It is the first report of the development of a dual signal amplification technology for DNA microarrays by synthesizing and applying the FB–DNA conjugates. The FB–DNA conjugates and Cy5-T1-FB-mixed-DNA demonstrated ~250–325-fold increase in sensitivity when compared with the conventional use of Cy5-labeled oligonucleotides such as Cy5-T1. Furthermore, the Cy5-T1-FB-mixed-DNA demonstrated ~5–1.3-fold increase in the sensitivity when compared with that of the FB–DNA conjugates alone.

MODEL-BASED ANALYSIS OF THE MECHANICAL SUBSYSTEM OF AN AIR BRAKE SYSTEM

        D. B. SONAWANE,K. NARAYAN,V. S. RAO,S. C. SUBRAMANIAN 한국자동차공학회 2011 International journal of automotive technology Vol.12 No.5

Most commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks use an air brake system, often equipped with an S-cam drum brake, to reduce their speed and/or to stop. With a drum brake system, the clearance between the brake shoe/pad and the brake drum may increase because of various reasons such as wearing of the brake shoe and/or brake drum and drum expansion caused by high heat generation during the braking process. Hence, to ensure proper functioning of the brake system, it is essential that the clearance between the brake shoe and the brake drum is monitored. In this paper, we present a mathematical model for the mechanical subsystem of the air brake system that can be used to monitor this clearance. This mathematical model correlates the push rod stroke transients and the brake chamber pressure transients. A kinematic analysis and a dynamic analysis of the mechanical subsystem of the air brake system were performed, and the results are corroborated with experimental data.

Efficient adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B dye over Bi2O3-bentonite nanocomposites: A kinetic study

        Sandip P. Patil,Bhaskar Bethi,G.H. Sonawane,V.S. Shrivastava,Shirish Sonawane 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.34 No.-

Bi2O3-bentonite nanocomposites successfully synthesized by intercalation method, are used forphotocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (Rh B) under visible light irradiation. Bi2O3-bentonite showsenhanced photocatalytic efficiency than pure Bi2O3 due to intercalation with bentonite. Removal of Rh Bis achieved upto 98.5% using 3 gL 1 photocatalyst at pH 3. It is found that increase in light absorption anddecrease in electron-hole recombination enhances photocatalytic efficiency. Photocatalytic degradationof Rh B by Bi2O3-bentonite proceeds via advanced oxidative process. The plausible mechanism ofphotocatalytic degradation Rh B reported by LC-MS shows generation of different degradation productsincluding benzoic acid and benzonium ion.

Efficacy and Safety of a Flaxseed Hull Extract in the Symptomatic Management of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: A Parallel, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Pilot Study

        Rudy Simons,Navneet Sonawane,Marian Verbruggen,Jayesh Chaudhary 한국식품영양과학회 2015 Journal of medicinal food Vol.18 No.2

This exploratory study was designed to assess the effectiveness of a lignan-rich extract of flaxseed hulls (LinumLife EXTRA®) in alleviating symptoms in subjects with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) compared with placebo. Two dosages of extract were compared against placebo in a double-blinded, randomized, parallel, multicenter study. Newly diagnosed cases of BPH in patients aged 45–75 years with an American Urological Association Symptom Index (AUASI) score of ≥ 13 were included. Study treatment consisted of 500 or 1000 mg of extract containing 100 mg (low-dose active [LDA] group, n = 26) or 200 mg (high-dose active [HDA] group, n = 26) of secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG), respectively. The placebo (P) group (n = 28) received matching maltodextrin capsules. Sixty subjects (LDA [n = 19], HDA [n = 20], and P [n = 21]) completed the study as per the protocol requirements. Change in the AUASI score within a period of 8 weeks, from baseline to end of treatment, was assessed. Significant improvement of obstructive symptoms and management of irritable BPH symptoms was achieved in all groups after treatment. Due to a strong placebo effect, there was no statistical difference between the groups that were treated with flaxseed hull extract as compared with the placebo group. Treatment with flaxseed hull extract did not lead to adverse effects compared with placebo. Supplementation with flaxseed hull extract was found to be safe and well-tolerated and may have improved the quality of life of individuals with BPH. The significant placebo effect as well as the number of subjects per treatment group and the relative short duration of the study may explain the lack of statistical significance between groups.
