니켈과 크롬은 대부분의 교정장치를 제작하는데 사용되는 합금을 구성하는 주요한 금속이다. 그러나 이들 금속은 과민반응, 피부염, 천식 등의 주요한 원인이 되며, 이들 금속의 우발적인 흡입에 의해 암이 유발될 수 있음이 보고된바 있다. 이에 하악 standard edgewise 브라켓을 이용한 사분악의 교정 장치를 37℃, 0.05% NaCl 용액에 저장하여 교정장치의 부식에 의해 유리된 니켈과 크롬을 Inductively Coupled Plasma(ICP) spectroanalyzer를 이용하여 측정하였다. 교정장치로부터, 1일 평균 9.83-70.0㎍/day의 니켈이 유리되었으나, 크롬은 10ppb 측정한계에서 측정불가능 하였다. 니켈 유리량은 제품에 따라 유의한 차이를 가져왔다. Galvanic 조건이나 Sand blasting 처리는 니켈 유리량에 증가를 가져왔으나 통계학적으로 유의하지 않았다. Nickel and chromium are two major metals used in the alloys of most orthodontic appliances. But these metals arc known to cause hypersensitivity, dermatitis, and asthma. In addition, a significant carcinogenic and mutagenic potential has been demonstrated for compounds containing these metals. The purpose of this study was to find out how much nickel and chromium was released from orthodontic appliances, and which factors would influence the release. The simulated orthodontic appliances were constructed for a half of a mandibular arch and incubated in 0.05% NaCl solution at 37℃. Nickel and chromium release was quantified with an Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) spectroanalyzer. The results were as follows 1. From simulated orthodontic appliances, nickel was released 9.83-70.0㎍/day but the release of chromium was not detectable in limit of l0ppb. 2. The amount of nickel release was significantly different between the types of appliances. 3. The galvanic condition increased the amount of nickel release, which was not statistically significant. 4. The sand blasting increased the amount of nickel release, which was also not statistically significant.

In order to investigate the effect of ethylene on somatic embryogenesis in celery (Apium graveolens L.). Ethrel ranging from 10^-3 μL/L to 10 μL/L was treated to embryo on various developmental stage. In treatment with 10^-3 μL/L ehtrel at the cell clump stage, the number of somatic embryo was increased up to 42.8% whereas the number of embryo was decreased by 14.3% at the concentration of over 1 μL/L. In treatment on the globular and cotyledonary stage, the somatic embryo development was increased in concentration from 10^-3 μL/L to 1.0 μL/L ethrel whereas embryo development was inhibited in concentraion of 10 μL/L. When AgNO_3 ranging from 0 .1 mg/L to 50 mg/L was treated to embryo on various developmental stage, its developmental rate was decreased in all concentration of AgNO_3 in treatment on cell clump stage. In treatment on globular stage the elongation rate of embryo was increase compared to control, but abnormal embryos were increased conspicuously.

In order to investigate the preventive effects of Houttuyniae Herba experimental studies were performed in rats fed 1%-cholesterol + Houttuyniae Herba Ex.. The results were summarized as that : Houttuyniae Herba showed significant inhibition on increase of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and phospholipid contents as well as remarkable inhibition on decrease of HDL-cholesterol contents in hyperlipidemia-induced rats fed 1%-cholesterol + Houttuyniae Herba Ex. Judging from above results, it is proved that Houttuyniae Herba is applicable to hyper-lipidemia such as hyper-cholesterolemia, hyper-triglyceridemia and so on, causing ischemic heart diease, hypertension, artero-sclerosis and cerebro-vascular accidents.

Polymer-modified paste-applied membrane waterproofing materials has been used as waterproofing materials, e.g. for basement and water tank due to both simple handling and excellent workability. However, as for the polymer-modified paste-applied membrane waterproofing materials, the durability is easy to be degraded by the occurrence and propagation of crack. An aim of this study is to make clear performance of the polymer-modified paste-applied membrane waterproofing materials of which performances are improved through this study. PAE and EVA show the result to be markedly dependent on the condition and period of deterioration. Presence of reinforcement causes the influence to the physical properties of waterproofing materials. In addition, a reinforcement effect of non-woven fabric on cracking can be expected.

목적: 정신분열병 환자의 적응 상태와 증상 형성에 영향을 주는 것으로 생각되는 인지기능 상태를 주의력, 형태 인식, 단어에 대한 구별과 종합 기능을 평가해봄으로써 알아보고자 하였다 방법: 정신분열병 환자 27명과 대조군 27명을 대상으로 하였고, 평가 도구로써 주의력은 K-WAIS의 숫자외우기 문제로, 형태 인식은 K-WAIS의 모양 맞추기 문제와 숨은 그림 찾기로, 단어 기능은 K-WAIS의 공통성 문제와 단어 차이 검사로 각각 이루어졌다. 통계 처리는 SPSS 11.5를 이용하여 Chi-Square test와 Student's t-test로 검증을 하였다. 결과: 정신분열군은 숫자외우기, 숨은 그림 찾기, 모양 맞추기에서는 대조군보다 낮은 점수를 보였다. 단어 차이 검사와 공통성 문제에서는 양군에서 차이를 보이지 않았다. 결론: 본 연구에서 정신분열군의 인지 기능은 정상인 대조군에 비해 주의력과 형태 인식 기능이 유의하게 떨어져 있었으며, 단어들을 구분하고 종합하는 능력은 차이가 없었다. 이런 결과는 임상적으로 정신분열병에서 보이는 망상이 언어적인 측면에서는 어느 정도 전달이 되는 현상과 일치하지만 주의나 형태인지와 같은 기본적인 과정에서 장애가 있다는 추정을 하게 한다. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the cognitive function in patients with schizophrenia by assessing attention, recognition of a shape, and verbal function. Methods: The subjects were 27 patients with schizophrenia group and 27 control group. Attention was assessed by the digit span task(K-WAIS subtest). The recognition of a shape was assessed by the object assembly task(K-WAIS subtest) and hidden figure task. Verbal function was assessed by Similiarities(K-WAIS subtest) and the different word task. Analysis was performed by the Chi-Square test and Student's t-test via SPSS 11.5. Result: Schizophrenia group had statistically lower scores than control group in digital span, hidden figure and object assembly. There was no difference between two groups in dimensions of difference in words and similarity. Conclusion: This study showed that patients with schizophrenia had impairments in attention and recognition of shape, and no difference between two groups in verbal ability. These explained the partial communicative function of delusion in verbal level. The formation of delusion might be related to the more basic elements such as attention and recognition of shape.
C6 glia 세포에서 유도성 Nitric Oxide Synthase 유전자 발현조절에 관한 연구

To investigate transcriptional regulation of iNOS gene by LPS and cytokines, the production of NO, expression of iNOS mRNA and protein, binding activity of nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-kB), and promoter activity of iNOS gene were examined in rat C6 glial cells. LPS, interferon-gamma(IFN-γ), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) stimulated the production of NO, which was increased synergistically by co-treatment. By the treatment of LPS, iNOS mRNA expression was initiated at 1 h, markedly increased by 3 h, and decreased gradually afterward. iNOS mRNA expression was markedly enhanced by mixture of LPS, IFN-γ and TNF-α. iNOS protein synthesis was increased by the treatment of mixture LPS and cytokine mixture. Treatment of LPS stimulated NF-kB activation, and the activation reached to the maximum level at 30 min, and the treatment of mixture of LPS and cytokines increased the activation. To determine the effect of NF-kB binding activity on iNOS promoter activation, CAT assay was performed. iNOS promoter activity was increased by the treatment with LPS for 5.5 h, and further increased by the combined treatment with LPS and cytokines. These results suggest that NF-kB activation by LPS and cytokines may play a significant role in the induction of the iNOS gene.
홍삼류의 섭취가 비만과 혈중 지질의 상호관계에 미치는 영향

비만은 동맥경화의 위험인자로서 혈중에 triglyceride의 농도를 종가시키고, 상대적으로 HDL-Cholesterol의 농도를 감소시킴과 동시에 수축기 혈압을 상승시킨다. 본 연구에서 홍삼제품류를 4년 또는 5년 동안 복용해 온 건강한 사람 (ginseng군)과 홍삼제품을 복용하지 않은 건강한 사람 (control군)을 대상으로 하여 신체 계측치로부터 비만지수를 구하고 이것과 혈중의 triglyceride (TG)농도, TG/HDL-Cholesterol ratio 및 수축기 혈압과의 상호관계를 연구한 바, ginseng군에서는 대조군에 비해 혈중의 TG 농도가 일정하게 유지되었고, TG/HDL-Cholesterol ratio 및 수축기 혈압도 일정하게 유지되었다. 이러한 현상은 ginseng군에서 기호품으로 alcohol을 섭취하거나, 흡연을 한 경우에도 상관없이 일정하게 유지 되었다. 이 결과는 홍삼제품류를 장기 복용하면 비만의 저하 및 고혈압 또는 동맥경화의 위험인자가 억제될 수 있고, 결론적으로 비만, 고혈압 및 동맥경화를 예방할 수 있을 것으로 추정한다. Obesity is the risk fcactor of atherosclerosis and not only increases triglyceride concentration in blood but also decreases relatively the ratio of TG to HDL-Cholesterol in blood. In case of obesity, systolic blood pressure is also increased in responding the increase of TG in blood. Index of obesity in red ginseng-taking group (ginseng group) was lower as compared with non-red ginseng-taking group (control group). The TG concentration, the ratio of triglyceride to HDL-cholesterol in blood and systolic blood pressure were decreased in the subjects of ginseng group compared with that in control group. It is inferred that long-term intake of ginseng products may help to prevent the risk of atherosclerosis and obesity.
