( Soe Soe Khaing ),( Aung Win ) 한국교육공학회 2014 한국교육공학회 학술대회발표자료집 Vol.2014 No.2
Developing e-learning courses for higher education is very important. Because e-learning is just as effective as any face-toface learning and it includes all part of a ``blended`` learning approach. Moreover e-learning service plays an important role in providing to enhance lifelong learning and provide unlimited opportunities for personal growth and development to all. This paper intends to carry out research and development framework of the e-learning course distribution of the lessons learned from two years`` experience and to identify the current challenges and to make some suggestions for the future. Rolling out strategies for e-learning courses is based on network infrastructure, interest of e-learning and learning environment. Based on these various factors, it will use statistical analysis and some methods and strategies to rolling out the contents to other universities. This research will contribute to strengthen the successful implementation of e-learning operation in some universities under ministry of science and technology, Myanmar.

<P>Asymptomatic infection is an important obstacle for controlling disease in countries where malaria is endemic. Because asymptomatic carriers do not seek treatment for their infections, they can have high levels of gametocytes and constitute a reservoir available for new infection. We employed a sample pooling/PCR-based molecular detection strategy for screening malaria infection in residents from areas of Myanmar where malaria is endemic. Blood samples (<I>n</I> = 1,552) were collected from residents in three areas of malaria endemicity (Kayin State, Bago, and Tanintharyi regions) of Myanmar. Two nested PCR and real-time PCR assays showed that asymptomatic infection was detected in about 1.0% to 9.4% of residents from the surveyed areas. The sensitivities of the two nested PCR and real-time PCR techniques were higher than that of microscopy examination (sensitivity, 100% versus 26.4%; kappa values, 0.2 to 0.5). Among the three regions, parasite-positive samples were highly detected in subjects from the Bago and Tanintharyi regions. Active surveillance of residents from regions of intense malaria transmission would reduce the risk of morbidity and mitigate transmission to the population in these areas of endemicity. Our data demonstrate that PCR-based molecular techniques are more efficient than microscopy for nationwide surveillance of malaria in countries where malaria is endemic.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Drug targeting using functionalized nanoparticles provides a new standard in anticancer therapy. Liposomes, safe and effective drug delivery carriers, can incorporate both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs for combination chemotherapy treatment of cancers. The objectives of the current study were to synthesize and test the effectiveness of a nanotechnology-based strategy utilizing folic acid (FA)-conjugated liposomes that incorporate both celastrol (Cs) and irinotecan (Ir) for targeted breast cancer therapy. Our results revealed the successful preparation of Cs and Ir-loaded folate-targeted liposomes (Lipo/Cs/Ir-FA) with a small particle size (∼190 nm) and polydispersity index (∼0.10). The formulation exhibited higher drug release profiles for both Ir and Cs at pH 5.0 compared to those at physiological pH, favoring cancer cell-targeted release. Furthermore, <I>in vitro</I> cell studies showed high uptake and enhanced apoptosis in folate receptor-positive breast cancer cells (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231), but not in folate receptor-negative lung cancer cells (A549). Moreover, an <I>in vivo</I> study in a mouse tumor model using MDA-MB-231 xenografts supported effective drug delivery behavior of the folate-conjugated liposomes by selective targeting of tumor tissue and minimizing systemic adverse effects. Therefore, our formulation could provide an effective therapy for targeted cancer treatment.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Folate-conjugated liposomes incorporating celastrol and irinotecan were synthesized. </LI> <LI> The formulation exhibited higher drug release profiles at pH 5.0 than at pH 7.4. </LI> <LI> <I>In vitro</I> studies showed high uptake in folate receptor-positive breast cancer cells. </LI> <LI> A mouse model showed effective drug targeting of tumors with minimal adverse effects. </LI> <LI> Our formulation could provide an effective therapy for targeted cancer treatment. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Optimization of efficient protocorm-like body (PLB) formation of Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium hybrids
Soe, Khaing Wah,Myint, Khin Thida,Naing, Aung Htay,Kim, Chang Kil Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology 2014 慶北大農學誌 Vol.32 No.4
Optimization of the protocorm-like body (PLB) formation of Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium hybrids was performed by determining the effects of plant growth regulators (PGRs) and different parts and division sizes of the PLB. For both genera, the base part was the best for the proliferation of PLBs, yielding the highest number of PLBs on a PGR-free medium for Phalaenopsis and medium containing $0.1{\mu}M$ NAA and $10.0{\mu}M$ BAP for Dendrobium. As regards the division size, four-division sections resulted in a higher PLB formation efficiency for Phalaenopsis, while two-division sections produced a higher PLB formation efficiency for Dendrobium. It is expected that these findings will be applicable to efficient PLB formation of other Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium orchids.

Soe, Seokjun,Park, Yoonjae,Chae, Heejoon BioMed Central 2018 BMC bioinformatics Vol.19 No.1
<P><B>Background</B></P><P>Bisulfite sequencing is one of the major high-resolution DNA methylation measurement method. Due to the selective nucleotide conversion on unmethylated cytosines after treatment with sodium bisulfite, processing bisulfite-treated sequencing reads requires additional steps which need high computational demands. However, a dearth of efficient aligner that is designed for bisulfite-treated sequencing becomes a bottleneck of large-scale DNA methylome analyses.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>In this study, we present a highly scalable, efficient, and load-balanced bisulfite aligner, BiSpark, which is designed for processing large volumes of bisulfite sequencing data. We implemented the BiSpark algorithm over the Apache Spark, a memory optimized distributed data processing framework, to achieve the maximum data parallel efficiency. The BiSpark algorithm is designed to support redistribution of imbalanced data to minimize delays on large-scale distributed environment.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Experimental results on methylome datasets show that BiSpark significantly outperforms other state-of-the-art bisulfite sequencing aligners in terms of alignment speed and scalability with respect to dataset size and a number of computing nodes while providing highly consistent and comparable mapping results.</P><P><B>Availability</B></P><P>The implementation of BiSpark software package and source code is available at https://github.com/bhi-kimlab/BiSpark/.</P>

A Rare Presentation of Metastasis of Prostate Adenocarcinoma to the Stomach and Rectum
Soe, Aye Min,Bordia, Sonal,Xiao, Philip Q.,Lopez-Morra, Hernan,Tejada, Juan,Atluri, Sreedevi,Krishnaiah, Mahesh The Korean Gastric Cancer Association 2014 Journal of gastric cancer Vol.14 No.4
Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in men in the United States. The most common sites of metastasis include the bone, lymph nodes, lung, liver, pleura, and adrenal glands, whereas metastatic prostate cancer involving the gastrointestinal tract has been rarely reported. A 64-year-old African-American man with a history of prostate cancer presented with anemia. He reported the passing of dark colored stools but denied hematemesis or hematochezia. Colonoscopy revealed circumferential nodularity, and histology demonstrated metastatic carcinoma of the prostate. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed hypertrophic folds in the gastric fundus, and microscopic examination revealed tumor cells positive for prostate-specific antigen. Bone scanning and computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis did not show metastasis. It is crucial to distinguish primary gastrointestinal cancer from metastatic lesions, especially in patients with a history of cancer at another site, for appropriate management.
