박정배,양재남,임윤정,구자설,장재영,박상훈,김상우,전훈재,Disinfection Management Committee of the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy 대한소화기내시경학회 2015 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.48 No.1
Background/Aims: There is a growing emphasis on quality management in endoscope reprocessing. Previous surveys conducted in 2002 and 2004 were not practitioner-oriented. Therefore, this survey is significant for being the first to target actual participants in endoscope reprocessing in Korea. Methods: This survey comprised 33 self-filled questions, and was personally delivered to nurses and nursing auxiliaries in the endoscopy departments of eight hospitals belonging to the society. The anonymous responses were collected after 1 week either by post or in person by committee members. Results: The survey included 100 participants. In the questionnaire addressing compliance rates with the reprocessing guideline, the majority (98.9%) had a high compliance rate compared to 27% of respondents in 2002 and 50% in 2004. The lowest rate of compliance with a reprocessing procedure was reported for transporting the contaminated endoscope in a sealed container. Automated endoscope reprocessors were available in all hospitals. Regarding reprocessing time, more than half of the subjects replied that reprocessing took more than 15 minutes (63.2%). Conclusions: The quality management of endoscope reprocessing has improved as since the previous survey. A national survey expanded to include primary clinics is required to determine the true current status of endoscope reprocessing.

Purpose: To evaluate the associations between early/late age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and systemic and ocular parameters using national population-based data. Methods: From 2008 to 2012, a total of 16,897 participants of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey underwent ophthalmologic examinations by the Korean Ophthalmological Society. Cases of early and late (neovascular and geographic atrophy) AMD were identified using digital fundus images. Risk factors were identified using logistic regression. Results: Age-standardized prevalence of early and late AMD among subjects aged 40 years and older was 5.5% and 0.6%, respectively. Increasing age was the most significant risk factor for both early and late AMD (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 1.09, 95% confidence interval [CI]; 1.07–1.10; aOR: 1.14, 95% CI: 1.10−1.19, respectively). Patients who slept, on average, more than nine hours per day (aOR: 0.68, 95% CI: 0.47−1.00) and who were in the lowest quintile (≤ 38.21 g/dL) of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (aOR: 0.68, 95% CI: 0.51−0.92) were significantly associated with a lower prevalence of early AMD. Increasing spherical equivalent (SE) [aOR: 0.53 of the first quintile of SE ≤ -1.38 diopters (D), 95% CI: 0.35−0.78; aOR: 1.41 of the fifth quintile of SE ≥ +0.69 D, 95% CI: 1.07−1.86] was associated with a higher prevalence of early AMD. Lower quartile of systolic blood pressure (≤ 110.0 mmHg) was associated with a lower prevalence of neovascular AMD (aOR: 0.25, 95% CI: 0.09−0.67). Conclusions: Aging was the most significant risk factor for both early and late AMD. Lower level of HDL cholesterol, longer duration of sleep, and myopia had protective associations with early AMD, while lower systolic blood pressure had a protective association with neovascular AMD.

Clinical practice guidelines for intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring: 2020 update
Korean Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring,Korean Neurological Association,Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine,Korean Society of Clinical Neurophysiology,Korean Association o 대한임상신경생리학회 2021 Annals of Clinical Neurophysiology Vol.23 No.1
The utility and accuracy of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) has evolved greatly following the recent development of new devices for neurophysiological testing and advances in anesthesiology. Until recently, the need for IONM services has been limited to large academic hospitals, but the demand for neurophysiologists with expertise in IONM has grown rapidly across diverse types of hospital. The primary goal of the Korean Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (KSION) is to promote the development of IONM research groups and to contribute to the improvement of fellowship among members and human health through academic projects. These guidelines are based on extensive literature reviews, recruitment of expert opinions, and consensus among KSION board members. This version of the guidelines was fully approved by the KSION, Korean Association of EMG Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the Korean Society of Clinical Neurophysiology, the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Korean Neurological Association.

The Korean Society of Radiology and the National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency developed guidelines for primary imaging tests and appropriate biopsy methods for thyroid nodules. These guidelines were developed using an adaptation process by collaboration between the development committee and the working group. The development committee, composed of research methodology experts, established the overall plan and provided support about methodological strategies. The working group, composed of radiologist experts in thyroid imaging, wrote the proposals. The guidelines recommend neck ultrasound (US) as a first-line imaging modality for the diagnosis of thyroid nodules in patients with suspected nodules, and US-guided fine-needle aspiration as a primary method for histologic examination of thyroid nodules.
The Korean Society for AIDS 대한감염학회 2021 Infection and Chemotherapy Vol.53 No.3
Since the establishment of the Committee for Clinical Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) by the Korean Society for AIDS in 2010, clinical guidelines have been prepared in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018. As new research findings on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of AIDS have been published in and outside of Korea along with the development and introduction of new antiretroviral medications, a need has arisen to revise the clinical guidelines by analyzing such new data. The clinical guidelines address the initial evaluation of patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, follow-up tests, appropriate timing of medication, appropriate antiretroviral medications, treatment strategies for patients who have concurrent infections with hepatitis B or C virus, recommendations for resistance testing, treatment for patients with HIV and tuberculosis coinfections, and treatment in pregnant women. Through these clinical guidelines, the Korean Society for AIDS and the Committee for Clinical Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of HIV/AIDS contributes to overcoming AIDS by delivering latest data and treatment strategies to healthcare professionals who treat AIDS in the clinic.

The Korean Pain Interventional Society (KORSIS) was established in 2004 to foster pain interventionalists through research, education, and imaging guidance on interventions in relation to pain originating from the spine and peripheral neuromuscular structures. The 47th symposium was held at Samjung Hotel, Seoul, Korea, from 09:00 to 16:00 on Sunday, April 16, 2023. The symposium addressed headaches and facial pain treatment that patients frequently complain of in clinical practice but which are challenging to treat. It also addressed the diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy, including cubital tunnel syndrome, injection procedure methods for treatment of peripheral neuropathy, imaging study findings of the ankle joint, and the experiences and pain treatment techniques of clinicians experienced in pain management. It is hoped that the attendees at this symposium will apply what they have learned in clinical practice to enhance patient treatment.
