Clinical Experience of Nurses in a Consultative Hospice Palliative Care Service
Sinyoung Kwon,Jinyee Byun 한국호스피스완화의료학회 2024 한국호스피스.완화의료학회지 Vol.27 No.1
Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative study was to employ Colaizzi’s phenomenological research method to elucidate and understand the essence of practical experiences among consultative hospice palliative care nurses working in hospice institutions. Methods: The participants in the study were 15 consultative hospice palliative care nurses with over 1 year of work experience in institutions located in S City, I City, and K Province in South Korea. Data were collected from 23 in-depth interviews and analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological qualitative method. Results: The practical experiences of consultative hospice palliative nurses were categorized into five categories, 10 theme clusters, and 25 themes. The five categories included “being aware of patients’ situations at the time of transition to hospice palliative care,” “empathizing with patients and their families by putting oneself in the other’s shoes,” “providing patient and family-centered end-of-life care,” “experiencing difficulties in practical tasks,” and “striving to improve hospice service quality.” Conclusion: This study is significant in that it provides practical data for understanding the experiences of consultative hospice palliative care nurses caring for terminally ill patients. This could enhance our understanding of care solutions that effectively tackle the challenges consultative hospice palliative care nurses encounter while fulfilling their roles.
Level of early childhood teachers’ ICT usage analysis
Sinyoung Kim 중소기업융합학회 2015 중소기업융합학회 국제학술대회논문집 Vol.2 No.1
This study aims to measure early childhood teachers’ level of ICT in education which is necessary in the information society. 433 teachers’ level of ICT in education were analyzed. This study suggested that the teachers’ level of ICT in education needs to be homogeneous since the teachers’ quality and provided educational quality are related to the early childhood education.
Early childhood teachers’ usability evaluation of online education system
Sinyoung Kim 중소기업융합학회 2015 중소기업융합학회 국제학술대회논문집 Vol.2 No.1
The purpose of this study is to identify what needs to be considered in a learner-oriented system design that is newly required due to the advancement of ICT and changes in the social learning environment. In particular, this study focused on the online system for early childhood teachers. As a result of analyzing experts opinions, the integrity, i.e. the system having to provide contents without any error, was high in both relevance and necessity. In other words, the importance of integrity must be emphasized in online learning.
Noise Power Estimation by Adaptively Thresholding Wavelet Packets
Sinyoung Jun,Eunsung Lee,Sangjin Kim,Jeongo Shin,Joonki Paik 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7
We present a novel method to estimate the noise power using the minimum statistics approach. The proposed method separates a noisy image into multiple frequency bands using the wavelet packet transform. By assuming that the output of the high-pass filter contains both signal detail and noise, the proposed algorithm extracts the region of pure noise from the high frequency band using an appropriate threshold. The region of pure noise, which is free from the signal detail part and the DC component, is well suited for minimum statistics condition, where the noise power can easily be extracted.
Health-related quality of life in children with epilepsy: a concept analysis
Sinyoung Choi,Kyung-Sook Bang 한국아동간호학회 2023 Child Health Nursing Research Vol.29 No.1
Purpose: This study aimed to conduct a concept analysis of health-related quality of life in children with epilepsy to promote conceptual clarification and facilitate mutual understanding of the concept. Methods: Walker and Avant's concept analysis method was adopted. Results: Health-related quality of life in children with epilepsy consists of six attributes: health status, inner strength, close relationships, resource-rich community, social acceptance, and changeability. According to the ecological system paradigm, these attributes are structured into five dimensions: organism, microsystem, macrosystem, exosystem, and chronosystem. These dimensions provide a comprehensive approach to the relationship between children with epilepsy and their environment. Epilepsy andinteractions with multilevel ecological systems that are directly and indirectly related to children with epilepsy precede the concept, followed by positive and negative affective responses. Conclusion: The findings of this study may support effective communication in various practice settings, thereby contributing to the health and well-being of children with epilepsy, as well as the development and expansion of interventions to improve their health-related quality of life.
( Sinyoung Park ),( Yang Hee Noh ),( Sun Young Rha ),( Won Ho Kim ),( Jae Hee Cheon ) 대한장연구학회 2015 Intestinal Research Vol.13 No.3
Background/Aims: The growing volume and the diversity of clinical research has led to related laws and regulations as well as the Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval process becoming more stringent. To conduct clinical research efficiently and while following regulations, information about the IRB approval process and feedback is important for investigators. This has yet to be studied. Methods: We included 381 gastrointestinal disease research proposals (79 with inflammatory bowel disease [IBD], and 302 with non-IBD) reviewed by the IRB of Severance Hospital between January 2009 and December 2013. We retrospectively analyzed research characteristics including research risk levels, results of initial reviews, frequencies of continuing review, numbers of IRB comments, frequencies of IRB comments, and durations from submission to approval. Results: Investigators` decisions on risk level were higher in the IBD group than in the non-IBD group (P <0.05). Results of initial reviews, frequencies of continuing reviews, the numbers of IRB review comments, and durations from submission to approval were not different between the two groups, but IRB decisions on risk level were higher in the IBD group (P <0.05). In subgroup analysis, the number of IRB comments from initial review on informed consent forms and procedures as well were quest of more information were significantly higher in the IBD group than in the non-IBD group (P <0.001 and 0.01, respectively). Conclusions: In Korea, rare diseases such as IBD require more information for the IRB process due to their distinct characteristics. IBD researchers should develop research protocols more carefully and make their research as subject-friendly as possible. (Intest Res 2015;13:274-281)
Current Status of Complementary Therapies Provided by Hospice Palliative Care in South Korea
Kwon, Sinyoung,Bak, Jihye,Kwon, So-Hi Korean Society for Hospice and Palliative Care 2021 한국호스피스.완화의료학회지 Vol.24 No.2
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigatecomplementary therapiesprovided at hospice palliative care facilities in South Koreaas designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Methods: The survey was conducted via e-mail from September 2 to September 23, 2020, with responsesfrom 109 therapists and 59 managers from 55 different hospice care facilities. Results: Hospices provided an average of 3.67 different types of therapies, ranging from 1 to 7 different types. The most common types of therapies were horticultural therapy (81.4%), music therapy (79.7%), art therapy (76.3%), and aromatherapy (57.6%). The average frequency of sessions was once a week, the median duration was 60 minutes. Most therapists (96.3%) had qualifications, but the certification-issuing organizations and training intensiveness varied greatly. None of the therapists were employed on a full-time basis, and their average monthly income was KRW 270,000. Therapists and managers gave average scores of 8.90 and 8.38 out of 10, respectively, regarding the positive impact of complementary therapies on patients. Conclusion: In order for patients and their families to benefit from complementary therapiesat hospice care facilities, in addition tobetter terms of employment for therapists, evidence-based guidelines for different types of therapies are needed so that therapy sessions can be conducted according to the theoretical underpinnings and characteristics of the type of therapy. It is expected that the results of this study will be used for policy-making in support of therapy as an essential hospice service.
