        Synthesis and characterization of epoxy resin-based ion-imprinted polymer for selective removal of copper ions

        With the continuous development of the concept of green chemistry, more attention is being paid to the selective capture of copper (II) from wastewater and its recovery and reuse. Ion imprinting technology is widely used to remove heavy metals from aqueous solutions due to its high selectivity. In this work, Cu(II) imprinted polymer (Cu(II)-IIP) was prepared by stepwise polymerization using Cu(II) ions as the template ions, PEG-600 as a pore-forming agent, epoxy resin as the carrier, and polyethylene polyamine as curing agent and complexing agent. The influences of solution pH, reaction temperature, reaction time and initial solubility of metal ions on its adsorption ability were systematically examined. The studies showed that the maximum adsorption quantity was 91.58 mg/g when pH=5 and T=318 K. The adsorption for Cu(II) of the Cu(II)-IIP was considered to be the monolayer chemisorption and spontaneous endothermic process. In the presence of multiple coexisting ions, Cu(II)-IIP had high selectivity for Cu(II). After five adsorption-desorption cycles, high removal rate could still be obtained, which means that the material provides a feasible method for treating wastewater containing Cu(II) ions.

        The Comparative Study on Teaching Perspectives of Pre-service English Teachers between Korea and China

        [연구목적] 본 연구는 효과적인 수업을 위한 교수자 인식에 관심을 가지고 한국과 중국의 예비 영어교사들의 교수관점을 비교하는데 목적을 두었다. [연구방법] 이를 위해, 양국의 예비 영어교사 235명을 대상으로 교수관점 지표(Teaching Perspectives Inventory, TPI) 설문을 실시하고 국가 간 교수관점 5개 영역(전달, 도제, 발달, 양육, 사회개혁)별 차이검증과 국가 내 영역 간 상관관계 분석을 실시하였다. [연구결과] 본 연구를 통해 도출된 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국과 중국의 예비교사들은 공히 ‘양육’의 관점에서 높은 인식 점수를 나타냈다. 그리고 ‘양육’ 관점을 제외한 나머지 4개 영역에서는 중국의 예비교사들이 상대적으로 높은 점수를 보여 양국 간 교수관점에서 유의미한 차이를 나타냈다. 둘째, 중국의 경우, 양육과 도제 관점 간 높은 상관관계가 나타났고, 한국의 예비교사들은 양육과 발달 간 상관관계 점수에서 높은 수치를 보였다. 셋째, 양국 예비교사들이 5개의 관점에 대한 우선순위 선정 내용을 분석한 결과, 한국의 경우 학습자 중심의 발달 관점을 첫 번째 순위로 가장 많이 선택하였고, 중국의 예비교사들은 (내용)전달 관점을 첫 순위로 선정하였다. [결론] 이러한 연구결과는 한국과 중국의 예비영어교사들이 인식하는 효과적인 수업에 대한 통찰을 제공하고, 이에 따라 양국 예비영어 교사교육에 있어서 시사점을 제공한다. Purpose : This study aims to compare the teaching perspectives of pre-service English teachers between Korea and China. Methods : To achieve this goal, the Teaching Perspectives Inventory (TPI) was adopted to investigate the perspectives of 235 students majoring in English Education in Korea (n=75 ) and China (n=160). In 1st and 2nd semesters of 2019 in China and Korea respectively, TPI surveys were conducted and the data was analyzed. Results : The result presented three aspects: firstly, both Korean and Chinese participants tended to value Nurturing as the highest average score. Except Nurturing, the significant difference of the two countries existed in the other four teaching perspectives, including Transmission, Apprenticeship, Developmental, and Social Reform. Secondly, in Korea and China, the correlation among each teaching perspective significantly existed, but showed the different correlation value. Thirdly, in terms of the importance degree of teaching perspectives, Korean participants preferred Developmental teaching perspective, while Chinese participants selected Transmission teaching perspective. Conclusion : Based on the result, the study provided the inspiration for differences in the understanding of how effective teaching should be obtained between Korean and Chinese pre-service English teachers.

        The Effects of Managerial Tie Traits on Foreign-Market Commitment

        Research on foreign entries stresses top management team (TMT) characteristics in decision-making. We select school tie, regional tie, coworker tie, and association tie as TMT characteristics. Resource-based and upper echelons theories suggest that TMT shares similar values and perceptions in its informal ties. At the same time, a lack of organizational diversity makes it difficult to acquire diverse resources in a dynamic environment. Thus, we hypothesize that the homogeneity of TMT informal ties reduces firms’ commitment to foreign markets. Also, we examine how inter-province networks moderate the relationship between informal ties and commitment. Our analysis of private-owned enterprises listed on the China Stock Exchange in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2017 to 2019 shows that regional, coworker, and association ties negatively affect commitment to foreign markets. The negative impact of regional and association ties can be weakened through official connections outside the local province.

      • Anisotropic AC Magnetic Susceptibility in (Ga,Mn)As Films

        <P>We report a systematic investigation of ac magnetic susceptibility in (Ga,Mn)As films as a function of temperature and magnetic field, carried out in parallel with dc magnetization measurements. The temperature dependence of ac susceptibility χ<SUB>ac</SUB> shows anisotropic behavior: 1) a single peak in χ<SUB>ac</SUB> is observed close to T for the [11̅0] orientation of the driving ac field; 2) a single peak is also seen close to 22 K for the field along [110]; and 3) peaks at both these temperatures are observed for the field applied along [100]. A detailed analysis of the ac and dc data unambiguously indicates that the peak near T is related to the paramagnetic-to-ferromagnetic phase transition, with the ferromagnetic domains nucleating with their easy axes aligned with the [11̅0] direction, providing a clear picture of uniaxial domain behavior near T . The peak near 22 K, on the other hand, is related to the onset of biaxial domain structure in (Ga,Mn)As induced by the competition between uniaxial and cubic anisotropy. More specifically, the ac susceptibility peak near T<SUB>C</SUB> involves 180° magnetization flips along the [11̅0] easy axis of the domains, while the peak near 22 K originates from magnetization wobbling between two biaxial easy axes separated by a small angle.</P>

        Adsorption performance of SO2 over ZnAl2O4 nanospheres

        A type of uniform ZnAl2O4 nanospheres was selectively synthesized via a facile solvothermalmethod andtheir size was controlled to be 320–450 nm in diameter. It exhibits excellent SO2 adsorption capacity. Both physical structure and surface basicity were determined to play important roles in SO2 adsorptionprocess. In situ FTIR investigation revealed that adsorbed SO2 molecules formed surface bisulfite, sulfite,and bidentate binuclear sulfate. The CO2-TPD results revealed the SO2 adsorption capacity of thecatalysts correlated closely with their basicity sites. The mechanisms for SO2 adsorption andtransformation have been discussed in detail.

        Dynamic Model Identification for Adaptive Polishing System

        In this paper, a decoupled and adaptive polishing system without force sensors is designed for the industrial robot to track the rapid change of the contact force and eliminate dynamical nonlinearities in the polishing process. An identification method is proposed to obtain the dynamic model of this system. The system dynamic model is composed of the nominal linear model and the nonlinear model. The parameters of the system linear time-invariant (LTI) model is identified by frequency domain response with the disturbance observer in this paper. Regarding the high order differential terms and uncertain errors of the nonlinear part of the dynamic model, the Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) is introduced for identifying system nonlinear characteristics. The bounds of the learning rate are discussed and the LSTM stability analysis result shows that the proposed method holds the Lyapunov stability. Finally, the experimental results show that a more accurate dynamic model can be established by combing frequency domain response and LSTM.

        Effects of building information modeling prior knowledge on applying virtual reality in construction education: lessons from a comparison study

        Applying building information modeling (BIM) and virtual reality (VR) in construction education is an effective way to achieve better study motivation, learnability, creativity, and observation of the real world. However, whether different levels of BIM prior knowledge affect students’ VR experimental learning, if at all, has not been examined. Therefore, this study employs a teaching intervention experiment to access the VR learning process based on the BIM prior knowledge. A total of 47 students, from the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, participated in the experiment. They were grouped according to whether they had taken the prior BIM tutorial section, with 23 participants in the group having completed the tutorial and 24 participants in the group that had not. Experiment materials were created and rendered via Autodesk Revit and Iris VR; the materials supported three tasks related to the underground design review scenarios and three other tasks about site planning review scenarios. After the experiment, a comparison study was done to discuss their differences based on VR task performances and satisfaction. The results revealed that the BIM prior knowledge mediated both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional navigations when students performed the tasks. Moreover, the relationship differences within the satisfactions showed that BIM prior knowledge effectively affected the learning outcomes. In conclusion, the comparison study implies that students’ BIM prior knowledge is efficacious in the students’ VR task performance and their VR satisfaction from cognitive and memory perspectives.

        Evaluation framework for BIM-based VR applications in design phase

        The integration of building information modeling (BIM) and virtual reality (VR) has attracted increasing attention in the architecture engineering and construction (AEC) industry. Despite the rapid emergence of BIM-based VR applications, no evaluation framework specialized for the technologies exists in the AEC industry. After extensively reviewing existing studies and interviewing experts, the research team proposed an evaluation framework for BIM-based VR applications, which consists of 3 stages, 5 areas, 14 criteria, and 29 metrics and focuses on the design phase of the projects. To assess the usefulness of the framework, the team applied it to five BIM-based VR applications using a BIM-based design project for an educational building in Hong Kong. The team also interviewed experts to discuss the comprehensiveness of the framework. The results show that the framework provides consistent results for comprehensive evaluation criteria and metrics in a quantitative and flexible manner. Further research that considers additional criteria and/or metrics related to other phases (e.g. construction phase) is required to extend the framework to the whole lifecycle.

        Image-based Visual Servoing using Improved Image Moments in 6-DOF Robot Systems

        This paper addresses the challenges of choosing proper image features for planar symmetric shape objects and designing visual servoing controller to enhance the tracking performance in image-based visual servoing (IBVS). Six image moments are chosen as the image features and the analytical image interaction matrix related to the image features are derived. A controller is designed to efficiently increase the robustness of the visual servoing system. Experimental results on a 6-DOF robot visual servoing system are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
