        The Implementation of Reverse Kessler Warm Rain Scheme for Radar Reflectivity Assimilation Using a Nudging Approach in New Zealand

        Reverse Kessler warm rain processes were implementedwithin the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) andcoupled with a Newtonian relaxation, or nudging technique designedto improve quantitative precipitation forecasting (QPF) in NewZealand by making use of observed radar reflectivity and modestcomputing facilities. One of the reasons for developing such ascheme, rather than using 4D-Var for example, is that radar VARscheme in general, and 4D-Var in particular, requires computationalresources beyond the capability of most university groups and indeedsome national forecasting centres of small countries like New Zealand. The new scheme adjusts the model water vapor mixing ratio profilesbased on observed reflectivity at each time step within an assimilationtime window. The whole scheme can be divided into followingsteps: (i) The radar reflectivity is firstly converted to rain water, and(ii) then the rain water is used to derive cloud water contentaccording to the reverse Kessler scheme; (iii) The cloud watercontent associated water vapor mixing ratio is then calculated basedon the saturation adjustment processes; (iv) Finally the adjustedwater vapor is nudged into the model and the model background isupdated. 13 rainfall cases which occurred in the summer of 2011/2012in New Zealand were used to evaluate the new scheme, differentforecast scores were calculated and showed that the new scheme wasable to improve precipitation forecasts on average up to around 7hours ahead depending on different verification thresholds.

        Purpose: Malnutrition is a common problem in hospitalized patients that can increase the risk of complications, including infections and length of hospitalization. Appropriate nutritional support is important, particularly in pediatric patients, because growth and development are closely related to the nutritional supply. This study examined the status of nutritional support for pediatric patients in general wards to determine if interventions of the pediatric nutrition support team (pNST) contribute to appropriate nutritional support and help improve their nutritional status. Methods: Between July 2016 and June 2017, all pediatric inpatients who received parenteral nutrition support at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital were recruited and divided into the NST group and non-NST group according to the activities of pNST. The nutritional status was assessed in all subjects, and the calories and proteins delivered through nutritional support in each group were calculated and then compared with the recommended requirements in pediatric patients. Results: The number of patients recruited was 174: 100 (57.5%) in the NST group and 74 (42.5%) in the non-NST group. Significantly more calories and protein were supplied in the NST group than the non-NST group in hospitalized children aged between four and 17 years (P<0.05). In the non-NST group, the amounts of calories supplied were insufficient compared to the recommended requirements. The proportion of patients supplied with the appropriate number of calories was 60.0% in the NST group and 20.0% in the non-NST group (P<0.001), and the proportion of cases supplied with the appropriate amount of protein was 87.0% in the NST group and 62.2% in the non-NST group (P<0.001). Conclusion: Interventions of the pediatric nutrition support team contributed to the sufficient supply of calories and protein and the improvement of clinical outcomes in hospitalized children on parenteral nutrition therapy.

      • 알루미늄 나노입자 첨가량에 따른 케로신 젤의 유변학적 특성 변화

        본 연구에서는 젤화제 Thixatrol<SUP>Ⓡ</SUP> 및 100 nm 크기의 알루미늄 입자 첨가량에 따른 케로신 기반 젤 추진제를 제작하여 유변학적 특성을 파악하였다. 케로신 젤 추진제는 젤화제 첨가량 2.5 wt%, 5 wt%, 7.5 wt%의 세 가지 젤을 제작하였으며, 알루미늄이 첨가된 젤은 젤화제 7.5 wt%를 기반으로 입자 첨가량 10 wt%와 20 wt%의 두 가지 블렌딩 알루미늄 젤을 분석하였다. 회전형 rheometer를 이용하여 각 시료의 점도를 측정한 결과, 젤화제 첨가량 증가 및 알루미늄 입자 증가에 따라 점도값이 정성적으로 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 그러나 20 wt%의 높은 금속입자 함유 젤의 경우, 입자간 응집, 고형화로 인해 낮은 전단변형률 구간에서 조차 측정 신뢰도가 낮아 회전형이 아닌 모세관 또는 다양한 방식의 점도계 활용이 요구된다. In this study, the rheological characteristics of kerosene based gel propellants were investigated. For the gelling agent, Thixatrol<SUP>Ⓡ</SUP> has been used with 100 nm nano-sized aluminium particle addition. Three gellant contents of 2.5 wt%, 5 wt% and 7.5 wt% kerosene gels were first investigated where aluminium particles contents of 10 wt% and 20 wt% were added to 7.5 wt% gellant case. The viscosities of each sample measured by rotational rheometer show that the viscosity augments as gellant or aluminium content increases while the 20 wt% aluminum content resulted in failure of measurement due to the agglomerations of aluminum particles.

      • 소형 하이브리드 로켓 모터를 이용한 수중연소시험

        본 연구는 하이브리드 로켓 모터의 수중추진기관 적용을 위한 초기연구로 Lab-scale 하이브리드 로켓 모터를 이용하여 수중연소시험을 수행하였다. 3 m x 1 m x 1 m 크기의 수조 내 바닥면에서 55 cm 위에 연소기를 위치하여 수중연소시험을 수행하였으며 아크릴판으로 제작된 파열판(rupture disk)을 이용하여 연소실 초기 기밀을 유지하였다. 산화제는 액체아산화질소(LN2O), 연료는 HDPE를 사용하였고 KNSB 추진제를 이용하여 점화하였으며 연소시험은 총 5초간 진행되었다. 수중연소시험 결과 설계 추력에 근접하는 추력을 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다. In this study, underwater combustion test was performed using a lab-scale hybrid rocket motor. The purpose of this study is to find out the feasibility of underwater propulsion using hybrid rocket system. Combustor was located underwater above 55cm from the bottom of water tank where the size of water tank is 3m X 1m X 1m. The combustor was sealed by installing acrylic plate rupture disk at the nozzle exit. LN2O and HDPE were used as oxidizer and solid fuel respectively, while the KNSB propellant was used as the ignitor source. The combustion duration was set to 5 seconds, and it was confirmed that the measured thrust of underwater combustion test was close to the design thrust.

      • Effects of Acid Rain on Ecosystem in Korea

        In this paper, recent work on effects of acid rain on ecosystem was summerized. Acidic precipitation is the product of many sources, both natural and anthropogenic, with the precursors often transported over long distances crossing national boundaries. Althrough the cause of acid precipitation are currently being debated, the damages which caused by acid precipitation are certainly existed. To reduce the impacts of acid rain on ecosystem. the pattern of energy consumption has to be studied extensively. It is important to examine not only short-term but also long-terns effects of acid rain. An international research institute to work on transport of air pollutants, patterns of energy consumption, and effects of acid precipitation is recommended.

      • RIDGEWOOD AERATION SYSTEM ANALYSIS : FINE BUBBLE DOME SYSTEM

        The Ridgewood Aeration System Analysis was initiated in March. 1983 at the Ridgewood. Wastewater Treatment facility in New Jersey. U.S.A. The purpose of this phase of the project was to evaluate the fine bubble dome aeration system. Both clean and dirty water tests were conduted under batch conditions. A comparison of the transfer efficiencies and a values for coarse and fine bubble systems is made. Significantly higher transfer efficiencies and a values resulted for the fine bubble system under batch conditions. The significant cost savings can be predicted using the fine bubble aeration system compare to the coarse bubble aeration system.

      • 청소년의 방과후학교 플루트 지도에서 리듬학습 방안

        This study acknowledged the need for ability to read music for students to play instruments in after school flute classes. To this end, this study intends to create student participation and activity based instruction of the element knowledge of music as reading notes, rhythm, and, key using Kodály’s teaching method. This study reviewed precedent studies on Kodály’s musing teaching method. Also, this study investigated Kodály’s teaching method in depth to suggest music teaching and learning method for instructing flute. Characteristics and results of teachingㆍlearning guidance are as follows. First, class participation was increased by helping students to learn rhythm easily and enjoyably using rhythm syllables, beating rhythm, and rhythm games. Also, it was identified that sense of rhythm of students improved through various rhythm activities. Secondly, interesting and new teaching methods of hand signal song, guessing hand signal, and playing by looking at hand signal of teacher were conducted for hand signal. Thirdly, the movable-do system helped students to learn easily through games. Students learned the concept of notes and built ability to read music through the movable-do system. Fourthly, this study used flying notes for students to learn notes, and was helpful in understanding line and fret on manuscript paper. 본 연구는 학교현장에서 그 수요가 날로 증가하고 있는 방과후학교 프로그램 중 플루트를 통한 청소년의 악기지도를 함에 있어서 음악의 핵심요소인 리듬의 이해를 통한 악기지도를 하고자 하였다. 음악의 주요요소인 리듬을 이해 한다는 것은 음악의 기초적인 이해를 도와 연주를 쉽게 할 수 있다. 이를 위하여 본고에서는 음악교육자 코다이의 이론을 중심으로 플루트 지도에서 리듬학습을 구안하였다. 이는 플루트를 연주함에 있어서 단순히 기술적인 연습이 아니라, 오선악보에 대한 거부감 줄이고 생활 속에서 플루트의 연주를 즐겁게 할 수 있도록 유도하기 위함이다. 이를 바탕으로 방과후학교에서 청소년의 플루트 지도에서 실제 적용할 수 있는 악곡으로 그 방안을 제시하여 청소년의 악기활동이 활성화 될 수 있는 방안을 모색하려는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 하였으며, 2016년 6월부터 5월까지 약 5주간에 걸쳐 호남지역에 생활하고 있는 아동ㆍ청소년을 대상으로 방과후학교 플루트 수업을 하였다. 악기지도의 특성상 다수의 자료를 얻을 수는 없었지만, 4개 학교에서 실험집단과 비교집단과의 차이를 살펴보았다. 본 연구를 통해 밝혀진 연구결과를 보면 리듬음절 활동은 플루트 연주와 악곡을 익히는데 도움이 되었으며, 이동도법에 대한 내용은 꾸준한 지도가 필요하였다. 이러한 플루트의 지도 방법의 적용은 악보에 대한 두려움을 줄일 수 있어 청소년기 정서적 안정과 음악적 생활화를 위하여 다양한 악기활동이 활성화 되어지길 바란다.
