        Association Among Self-Injury, Suicidal Tendency, and Personality and Psychological Characteristics in Korean Adolescents

        Objective To compare mental health problems and personality characteristics between adolescents with self-injury (SI) and suicidal tendency (ST), including suicidal ideation and suicide planning. Methods The participants completed the Adolescent Personality and Mental Health Problems Screening Questionnaire, Third version (AMPQ-III), and Korean version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ-Kr), and gave their demographic information. Based on the answered SI and ST items in AMPQ-III, the participants were divided into groups: without SI and ST, with SI and without ST, without SI and with ST, and with SI and ST. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc Scheffe test were used to determine group differences, stepwise multiple linear regression, and factors associated with SI and ST. Results ANOVA yielded results for all categories of mental health problems. Significant differences were observed between the four groups. Conversely, for personality characteristics, only the sense of community item between the group without SI and with ST and the group without SI and ST were significantly different; sense of community was associated with ST (β=-0.054, p=0.005). Among the mental health subscales, SI was significantly associated with conduct problems (β=0.211, p<0.001), emotional problems (β=0.173, p<0.001), peer problems (β=0.085, p<0.001), and prosocial behavior (β=0.073, p<0.001). ST was significantly associated with emotional symptoms (β=0.317, p<0.001), peer problems (β=0.130, p<0.001), conduct problems (β=0.106, p<0.001), hyperactivity (β=0.050, p=0.010), and prosocial behavior (β=0.062, p<0.001). Conclusion The findings highlight the necessity of assessing psychological strength, difficulties, and personality characteristics for the prevention and early intervention of adolescent SI.

      • The Change of Skeletal Muscle Mass Is Associated with Hepatic Steatosis in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

        Aims: We aimed to investigate the association between the change of muscle mass and change of fibrosis and steatosis in NAFLD patients. Methods: We analyzed 2,893 NAFLD subjects who had health check-up more than twice in St. Vincent’s Hospital between November 2009 and December 2017. NAFLD was diagnosed by ultrasound, and appendicular muscle mass (ASM) was assessed by Inbody 720, and Sarcopenia index was calculated as ASM divided by weight (SI%) and ASM divided by body mass index (SI-BMI). Non-invasive markers were used to evaluate the severity of hepatic fibrosis and steatosis; NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS), Fibrosis-4 (Fib-4) score, and Forn’s index for fibrosis, and hepatic steatosis index (HSI) and fatty liver index (FLI) for steatosis. Results: The mean age was 47.3±10.4 years, and 1956 subjects (67.6%) were male. Diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome were more prevalent in sarcopenic subjects (P<0.01), and non-invasive fibrosis and steatosis markers were higher in sarcopenic subjects (P< 0.01). The mean interval between two health check-up was 39.8±21.9 months. There was no significant association between the change of NFS, Fib-4, and Forn’s index and the change of SI% and SI-BMI (all P >0.1). However, the changes of HIS and FLI were significantly associated with the change of SI% and SI-BMI (all P<0.01). Multivariate logistic analysis demonstrated the independent association between the change of skeletal muscle mass and the changes of non-invasive steatosis markers after adjusting for other confounding factors (all P< 0.001). However, the changes of non-invasive fibrosis markers did not show an independent association with the change of appendicular muscle mass after adjusting for other confounders (all P >0.1) Conclusions: The change of muscle mass is strongly associated with the change of hepatic steatosis, but not the change of fibrosis.

        De novo assembled transcriptome of horned gall aphid, Schlechtendalia chinensis Bell, suggest changes in functional gene expression during host alternation

        The horned gall aphid, Schlechtendalia chinensis Bell, is the most economically valuable galling aphid. It accounts for approximately 75% of Chinese gallnut production, which is important for medical and chemical purposes. The horned gall aphid feeds on the Chinese sumac tree, Rhus chinensis, during the summer, induces galls, and overwinters on the moss Plagiomnium spp. However, the sequence information of S. chinensis is limited, and the functional gene expression changes during host alternation remain obscure. In this study, the transcriptome of the horned gall aphid was sequenced using high‐throughput sequencing technology. Approximately 49 million reads were obtained and were assembled into 99 366 transcripts and 47 400 unigenes. Annotation was performed using a BLAST search against primary databases such as NCBI nr and Swiss‐Prot, as well as enrichment analysis by GO, KOG and KEGG. Differentially expressed genes between spring and autumn migrant aphids were compared, and the expression levels of many genes related to detoxification, digestion and other functional genes were found to have changed, reflecting the adaptation ability of horned gall aphids in different seasons and hosts. Functional genes in wax biosynthesis were upregulated in spring migrant aphids. This study analyzed the expression profile difference between spring and autumn migrant aphids to approach the real functional genes change during host alternation. The transcriptome provides a basis to understanding the functional genes during gall aphid host alternation and the related physiological and molecular characteristics.

        남한에서 확인되는 고구려의 시 · 공간적 정체성

        고구려는 5세기를 전후한 시점에 남한 지역으로 진출하기 시작하여 멸망하기 전까지 많은 유적과 유물을 남겼다. 475년 백제의 한성 접령을 계기로 본격화 되는 고구려의 남진은 몽촌토성을 기점으로 남쪽으로는 금강 유역까지 영역을 확장하기에 이르렀다. 이와 관련된 유적으로는 금강 유역의 목책 방어 단계의 관방 유적과 한강에서 금강 사이의 육상 교통로를 따라 소규모로 존재하고 있는 고구려 석실분을 들 수 있다. 이틀 유적에서 출토된 고구려 토기는 점열문, 파상문 등과 같은 문양이 시문되어 있거나 표면에 타날 흔적이 남아있는 등의 특징을 지니고 있다. 또한 이 시기에는 강원도 일대에서도 고분을 중심으로 고구려 유적이 일부 발견되었으나, 성곽 유적은 확인되지 않았다. 6세기에 들어 백제의 세력이 재정비되자 고구려는 금강 유역에서 한강 유역으로 후퇴하게 되는데, 한강 북안의 아차산 보루군은 이제 목책에서 석축 성벽으로 방어 체계를 전환하게 된다. 많은 보루가 유기적으로 연결되어 있는 아차산 보루군은 단순한 감시 기능을 담당하는 보루들의 집합군이라기 보다는 행정 및 군사를 모두 담당할 수 있는 일종의 대형 성곽으로써 기능했을 가능성이 높다. 551년 백제와 신라 연합군에 의해 한강 유역을 상실한 고구려는 임진 한탄강을 최종 방어선으로 삼게 되는데, 해당 시기에는 임진강 유역의 관방유적 또한 아차산 보루문과 마찬가지로 이미 묵책에서 여축 성벽 단계로 전환되었던 것으로 보인다. 암진강 유역에서는 외당을 갖춘 기와 건물지가 들어선 호로고루가 가장 중심이 되었던 것으로 파악된다. 고구려의 남진은 백제와 신라에도 많은 영향을 미치게 되는데, 특히 백제 지역에서는 고구려계 토기가 제작되고 있다는 점이 특징적이다. 그 중에서도 사비기 고구려계 백제 토기는 제작 시점이 6세기임에도 불구하고 5세기대 고구려 토기의 특징을 보여주고 있다는 정에서 시사하는 바가 크다고 하겠다. In 5th century, Koguryo(Goguryo, 高句麗) moved southern Korea and then left many remains and relics before the collapse. After dominating Hanseong(漢城) at 475, Koguryo had built a command oenter to move southward in Mongchon toseonglearthenwall), And then Koguryo advanced to the Geum River basin. In this regard, fortresses which are banicaded by the wooden fenoe and tombs which are independently located on the traffic route are left in the late 5th century. Koguryo pottery of that sites show the surface decoration of dot-rows(點列) or wave lines(波狀) and the traoes of tanal(padd!ing, 打撿). In 6th century, Koguryo receded from the Geum River basin to the Han River basin due to Baekje(百濟)' s power expansion. That time, Koguryo fortresses of Acha mountain was switched the defense system from the wooden fenoe(木珊) to the stone wall(石築城壁). These fortresses were organically interlinked, so fortresses in Acha mountain itself probably served as a single mid-scale castle, whose administrative center is assumed to have been Hongreonbong Fort No.1. In 551, as the allied powers of Si!la(新羅) and Baekje moved northward, Koguryo receded the lnljin and Hantan River basin. That time, Koguryo fortresses of lnljin River basin was also switched the defense system from the wooden fenoe to the stone wall. That area' s center is assumed to have been Horogoru fortress which was built the tile-roofed house. Meanwhile, Koguryo' s southward advance had many influences to Baekje. Koguryo styled pottery had been made. Characteristics of Koguryo pottery continued throughout the Sabi period and became new styled pottery, so called "Sabi Style Pottery" , distinct from the typical Baekje pottery.

      • 플랫폼 경제의 부상과 혁신적이고 공정한 산업 생태계 조성 방안

        A platform economy where platforms bring about huge changes across all areas of the economy is developing around the world. In the past, U.S. and Chinese companies led major platforms in the digital industry. Recently, however, Korean companies are also actively challenging to build platforms. Platforms have the potential to make fundamental changes in the Korean economy, and the next few years will decide whether Korean companies will be able to successfully build platforms and lead the domestic or global ecosystems. It is time for research on platform promotion and regulation measures to promote platform creation and ecosystem leadership of Korean companies. In order to establish national platform policy, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of platforms and to understand the current status of their competition. Major keywords related to the characteristics of platforms include switching costs and multi-homing in the introduction stage, network effects and critical mass in the growth stage, ‘market for lemons’ in the reinforcement stage, two-sided market pricing in the harvest stage, and platform envelopment in the expansion stage. To overview the current status of platform competition at home and abroad, competition for platform leadership has virtually ended in some areas, but fierce competition for leadership is currently underway in many other areas. Taking into account different characteristics of platforms from general products and the current status of competition, we cannot be too cautious when establishing and applying platform policies. Looking at platform policies of other countries, the platform anti-trust bill package was proposed in June 2021 in the United States. Representative bills include American Choice and Innovation Online Act, Ending Platform Monopolies Act, Platform Competition and Opportunity Act, and Augmenting Compatibility and Competition by Enabling Service Switching Act. Representative bills announced in Europe include the Digital Market Act and the Digital Service Act. In Korea, various platform-related bills such as the Online Platform Fairness Act and the Online Platform User Protection Act have been proposed. Although regulations on platforms are generally tightened at home and abroad, it seems that platform policies should be established in consideration of national interests of our country. Considering overseas policy trends and interviews with platform policy experts, this study proposes the following policies. First, it is necessary to support platform companies to solve problems such as conflicts with professionals and consideration for the vulnerable so that they can overcome barriers to entry into the market. Second, in order for platform companies to secure a large number of high-quality participants, different requirements should be identified according to the type and situation of platform workers and solved through social dialogues. Third, in order for platform companies to revitalize ecosystems and transactions, institutional mechanisms should be prepared to make it difficult for platforms to favor their products in sectors with weak market competition, and autonomous regulations should be encouraged in sectors with strong market competition. Fourth, platform companies should be given autonomy to determine appropriate fees, but the government can present guidelines if necessary. Fifth, platform companies should be allowed to acquire competitive startups except in hostile mergers and acquisitions of companies emerging as potential competitors in the existing business area. Sixth, in order to prevent reverse discrimination of domestic companies, regulations that are difficult to apply to overseas companies in reality should not be applied to domestic companies, but should also be applied to overseas companies if regulations are essential.       • 사료단백질 수준이 암컷 꽃사슴에 있어 질소대사에 미치는 영향

        This study was conducted to evaluate the nutritional and physiological effect of dietary protein level on female sika deer; Throughout the experiment, each of 3 female sika deer was fed 3 diets isocalorically formulated at 7, 12 and 17% CP levels. Each of trial included 5-day transition, 10-day preliminary and 7-day collection periods. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Apparent digestibilities of CP, and ADF were affected by dietary protein level; however OM, and DM digestibilities were not affected by dietary protein level. 2. All the two-year old female sika deer at 7, 12 and 17% of dietary CP levels had positive nitrogen balance. 3. Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) was significantly greater (P<.05) in female sika deer with the dietary protein level increased. 4. Metabolic fecal nitrogen (MFN) estimated by regression analysis was 0.32 g/㎏W0.75/d. 5. Maintenance protein requirement estimated by regression analysis was 1.81 g/㎏W0.75/d.

      • Li 화합물을 첨가한 CaSO₄:Dy 열중성자 측정용 TLD 소자 개발

        Personal neutron dosimetry is quite a difficult area because a neutron is always accompanied with gamma radiation, which is required of a capability for mixed field dosimetry. CaSO₄:Dy phosphor is known to have a very high sensitivity to gamma, but the neutron capture cross section of the constituents of CaSO₄:Dy are so small that the interactions between the thermal neutron and the phosphor are rare. One method to improve the neutron interaction is by introducing an impurity ion with a large thermal neutron captures cross section into the phosphor to act as a neutron target centre such as 6Li. In neutron-gamma mixed radiation fields, if two detectors for the 6Li-7Li compounds embedded CaSO₄:Dy TL pellets are used, a 6Li-compound embedded pellet can detect the neutron and gamma radiation together, and the other pellet can only detect the gamma radiation. Recently Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KEARI) has developed a new type of CaSO₄:Dy TL materials embedded with phosphorous (KCT-300) to detect beta and gamma radiation with a very high sensitivity[1]. This paper presents the development of CaSO₄:Dy TL pellets embedded with 6Li compound for a thermal neutron measurement, and the detection method of the neutron and gamma dose in mixed fields with CaSO₄:Dy TL pellets embedded with a 6Li compound(KCT-306) and CaSO₄:Dy TL pellets embedded with a 7Li compound(KCT-307) is introduced. The net neutron sensitivity of CaSO₄:Dy TL pellets embedded with 6Li compound developed in this study is higher than that of the TLD-600 (Harshaw Co.) dosimeter which is available in the open market.

        A bacterium producing protease and CMCase was isolated from soil, has been identified as Bacillus sp. The isolate, named Bacillus sp. SY8-24, was shown to be very similar to Bacillus subtilis on the basis of its biochemical properties. Medium optimization for mass production of Bacillus sp. SY8-24 was performed. The optimum condition for the mass production of Bacillus sp. SY8-24 was attained in a culture medium composed of 1%(w/v) soybean meal and 2%(w/v) molasses.

      • 民族主義的 側面에서 본 韓國文學 : 日帝治下의 文學을 中心으로 Especially during the Japanese Rule of Korea

        How national consciousness is reflected in Korean literature during the Japanese rule of Korea can be a matter of our concern, partly because national consciousness and nationalism embedded in literary works were one of our issues of that period, and partly because it is significant to fathom the historical import of such literature and explain its present implications. In this article, main Colonial literary works with deep layers of national consciousness and nationalism in them are looked into in three separate genres:(1) poetry, (2) fiction, (3) criticism. In poetry, national self-esteem and resistance to Japanese imperialism were urged suggestively and metaphorically in the form of expressions peculiar to poetry. In fiction, the first phase of the resistance characterized by negative enlightenment eventually grew into the phase of positive, though suggestive, manifestation and description of the spirit of resistance. In literary criticism, first, most critics analyzed the discord and friction between nationalism and socialism by inquiring into the process through which these two ideologies were introduced into literature and by surveying the scope of literary theories based on the two ideas. Secondly, they tried to find the historical import and the sphere of nationalistic literary theories by analyzing the reflection of such theories in Korean society described in literary works, and by analyzing the contribution of such theories to the formation of spiritual structure of Korean literature. Such literature tells us that literature can not be separated from realities of the times and that it abstracts and reorganizes the notions of the age. In that respect, we can assert that the Koreans under the Japanese rule criticized, denied, and resisted the Colonial age instead of accepting it tolerantly.

      • 고감도 CaSO_4 : Dy TL 분말의 TL 특성 및 고감도 TL 소자 제작 Dy TL powder and development of high sensitivity CaSO_4 Dy TL pellet

        CaSO_4 : Dy series TL material is widely used as a personal dosimeter because of its high sensitivity to radiation. KAERI(Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) has been produced CaSO_4 TL powder activated by Dy(rare earth elements) for several years and continually tried to improve its sensitivity having more than that of commercialized Teledyne CaSO_4 : Dy TL powders(USA). The TL powder is prepared by adding 0.1mol% Dy as an activator and by the acid evaporation method at first. And new step of washing this powder by distil-water is appended to separate non-crystalized powder in the initial crystal of CaSO_4 : Dy powder. CaSO_4 : Dy crystal TL powder which is produced by applying this new method has higer sensitivity than before washing step, and it has also higher sensitivity than that of Teledyne CaSO_4 : Dy TL powder. This CaSO_4 : Dy TL powder shows good TL characteristics such as dose response, energy response and fading. It is not possible to make solid detectors of only CaSO_4 : Dy TL phosphor without any binding material. Until now widely used sintered pellets. which were made from a mixture of CaSO_4 : Dy TL phosphor and Teflon. But, due to reduction in content of CaSO_4 : Dy TL phosphor in pellets(15∼20wt%) the TL sensitivity of pellets was reduced correspondingly. To variously use the CaSO_4 : Dy TL phosphor, research for preparing detectors by mixing CaSO_4 : Dy TL phosphor with different binding substances has been conductedThis paper described development of a new type of CaSO_4 : Dy pellets by using P-compounds as a bonding material(KCT-300), and compared the TL sensitivity with that of the commercialized Teledyne CaSO_4 : Dy pellets. Sensitivity of a new developed KCT-300 shows about 6 times than Teledyne ones, and can be used to measure very low radiation dose.
