Gone with the Wind, Gone with the Translator Influences of Reception Theory on the Formation of a Translation

YANG, Shizhuo 한국통역번역학회 2009 통역과 번역 Vol.11 No.2

When a novel comes into the hands of a translator, it can come out very differently from the original due to various factors such as idiomatic expressions, cultural connotations, author’s subjectivity, and even the influence of readership. The Chinese translation from English of the American novel Gone with the Wind is such an example. Through a comparative study of two Chinese translations respectively by Fu Donghua and Li Yeguang, and in the light of reception theory advocated by Jauss and Iser, we reveal how the two translators rewrote their translations with the consideration of readers’ response in mind. What makes their translations different is that Fu regarded the novel as a fascinating romance while Li took it as a realistic and historical novel. Detailed analysis will be carried out regarding the two translators’ distinctive interpretations of the theme, their understanding of major characters and the related translation strategies they adopted. We also show why Fu was criticized for what he has translated. We come to the conclusion that the relevant factors of reception theory have influenced greatly these two translators’ decisions in the process of creating a brand new version of Gone with the Wind.

Influence of post-pouring joint on long-term performance of steel-concrete composite beam

        Dunwen Huang,Junwei Han,Xiaochun Liu,Shizhuo Zhang,Tao Chen 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.28 No.1

The concrete bridge decks are usually precast and in-situ assembled with steel girders with post-pouring joint in the construction practice of super-wide steel-concrete composite beam. But the difference of concrete age between the precast slabs and the post-pouring joint has been not yet considered for the long-term performance analysis of this kind composite beam. A simply supported precast-assembled T-shaped beam was taken as an example to analyze the long-term performance of steel-concrete composite beam with post-pouring joint. Based on the deformation coordination conditions of the old-new concrete deck and steel girder, a theoretical model for the long-term behavior of precast-assembled composite beam is proposed in this paper according to age-adjusted effective modulus method. Then, the feasibility of the proposed model is verified by the available test data from the Gilbert's composite beams. Parametric studies were preformed to evaluate the influences of the cross-sectional area ratio of the post-pouring joint to the whole bridge deck, as well as the difference of concrete age between the precast slabs and the post-pouring joint, on the long-term performance of the composite beam. The results indicate that the traditional method without considering the age difference would seriously underestimate the effect of creep and shrinkage of concrete bridge decks. The concrete age difference between the precast slabs and the post-pouring joint should be demonstrated for the life cycle design and long-term performance analysis of precast-assembled steel-concrete composite beams.

사이버범죄에 대한 국제법연구― ―국제협약, 관할권, softlaw 규범을 중심으로

马光 ( Ma Guang ),钟诗卓 ( Zhong Shizhuo ) 고려대학교 법학연구원 2020 고려법학 Vol.0 No.98

At present, as “Internet +” era begins, network technology is changing with each passing day. With the rapid development of online transaction, sharing economy, online payment and online government affairs, the digital technology based on the Internet is integrating with all aspects of the society, which not only improves the living standard of world, but also opens the “Pandora’s box”. Criminals combine traditional crime and network, which is a new thing, to commit crimes. The characteristics of cross-border, intelligent and covert make network crimes spread to all corners of the world and increase the difficulty of governance. This paper analyzes transnational cybercrime from the perspective of international conventions, jurisdiction, and soft law rules, and puts forward corresponding governance suggestions.
