NBA 구단의 상징에 함의된 기호들의 지시의미 비교 연구

본 연구는 NBA에 소속되어 있는 농구팀 30개 구단의 상징(Symbol)들을 특정한 기준(원, 농구공, 문자, 동물, 독특한 소재)으로 분류하여 해당 상징기호들의 시각적 특징과 의미를 논한 다음 이 들 과정에서 추출된 요소의 의미들을 종합하여 지시의미를 규명할 것이다. 분석 방법은 시각물 특성상 중복될 가능성을 배제하지 않고 강하게 부각된 기호요소들을 퍼스의 삼원론과 롤랑바르트의 신화론을 바탕으로 진행하였다. 연구 결과 구단의 상징에 가장 많은 표현 방식으로 사용된 것은 문자(Letter)를 주기호로 활용한 방식으로 총 15개 팀이 이 지시 방법을 사용하였다. 이는 구단명의 강한 표출이 가능한 방법으로 상업적 목적을 수반하고 있는 프로 구단 특성을 고려한다면 충분히 이해가 가능하다. 두 번째로는 12구단이 적용한 원(Circle)을 주기호로 활용한 상징으로 이는 긍정과 동의를 나타내는 기호로서 대부분의 사람들이 추구하는 바이고 조형적으로도 완벽한 형태를 구현하고 있어 자신들 구단의 절대성과 완벽성을 추구함을 표출하기에 적절한 기호였을 것으로 파악된다. 세 번째는 8개 구단이 적용한 농구공(Ball)을 주기호로 활용한 상징으로 이는 농구라는 정체성을 표현하기에 매우 유효한 기호였을 것이다. 그러나 생각보다 적은 팀이 이를 차용하였는데 이는 원이나 구단명 등 우회적으로 표현이 가능하기에 발생한 결과로 보인다. 네 번째는 동물(Animal)을 주기호로 활용한 상징으로 7개 구단이 이를 적용하였다. 이는 다른 스포츠 구단에서도 많이 활용하는 방법으로 상징에 농구라는 정체성을 표출하기보다는 구단이 추구하는 이념이나 주장이 내재된 동물 캐릭터 상징이 다양한 마케팅 활동에 보다 효율적일 것이라고 판단한 것으로 이해된다. 다섯 번째는 차별 소재(Unique Material)를 주기호로 활용한 상징을 4개 구단이 적용하였다. 이는 그 무엇보다도 타 구단과의 차별화를 중시한 것으로 이해된다. This study classifies the symbols of 30 clubs belonging to the NBA by specific criteria (circle, basketball, letters, animals, and unique materials) to identify the visual characteristics and meanings of the symbols, and then By synthesizing the meanings, the meaning of the reference will be identified. The analysis method was conducted based on Peirce's ternary theory and Barthes' myth theory based on the strongly expressed part, recognizing the possibility of repetition due to the nature of the visual material. As a result of the study, the most frequently used expression method for the symbol of the club was the method using letters as the main symbol, and a total of 15 teams used this instruction method. This is fully understandable if we consider the characteristics of a professional club that has a commercial purpose as a method that allows strong expression of the club name. The second is a symbol using the circle applied by the 12 clubs as the main symbol, which is a symbol of affirmation and agreement. It is understood that it was an appropriate sign to express the pursuit of perfection. The third is a symbol that uses a basketball applied by 8 clubs as its main symbol, which must have been a very useful symbol to express the identity of basketball. However, fewer teams than expected used it, and this appears to be the result of indirect expression such as circles or club names. Fourth, as a symbol using an animal as the main symbol, 7 clubs applied it. This method is widely used by other sports clubs, and rather than expressing the identity of basketball in the symbol, it is understood that the animal character symbol with the ideology or claim that the club pursues would be more effective in various marketing activities. Fifth, 4 clubs applied a symbol using a unique material as the main symbol. It is understood that above all else, differentiation from other clubs is emphasized.

AKARI OBSERVATIONS OF DUSTY TORI OF ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI

The dusty torus of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) is one of theimportant components for theunification theory of AGNs. The geometry and properties ofthe dusty torus are key factors in understanding the nature of AGNs aswell as the formation and evolution of AGNs. However, they are stillunder discussion. Infrared observation is useful for understanding the dustytorus as thermal emission from hot dust with the dust sublimationtemperature ($\sim$ 1500 K) has been observed in the infrared. We have analyzed infrared spectroscopic data of low-redshift andhigh-redshift quasars, which are luminous AGNs. For the low-redshift quasars, we constructed the spectral energydistributions (SEDs) with AKARI near-infrared and Spitzer mid-infraredspectra and decomposed the SEDs into a power-lawcomponent from the nuclei, silicate features, and blackbody components withdifferent temperatures from the dusty torus. From the decomposition,the temperature of the innermost dusty torus shows the range between900-2000 K. For the high-redshiftquasars, AKARI traced rest-frameoptical and near-infrared spectra of AGNs. Combining with WISE data,we havefound that the temperature of the innermost dusty torus in high redshift quasarsis lower than that in typical quasars. The hydrogen H$\alpha$ emission line from the braod emission line region in thequasars also shows narrow full widthat half maximumof 3000$-$4000 km s$^{-1}$. These results indicatethat the dusty torus and the broad emission line region are more extendedthan those of typical quasars.

Anti-Tumor and Immunoregulatory Effects of Fermented Papaya Preparation (FPP: SAIDO-PS501)

Various beneficial effects have been described for fermented papaya preparation (FPP: SAIDO-PS501) based on its anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory functions. The present study was designed to determine the effects of FPP on carcinogenesis in vivo, and immunomodulatory function in vitro. Mice were injected with RL male 1 cells subcutaneously or 3-methylcholantherene (MCA) intravenously to induce cancer and orally or intraperitoneally treated with FPP solution. Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were obtained from healthy volunteers and patients with atopic dermatitis, treated with FPP, and subjected to measurement of cytokine production and changes in Foxp3-expressing regulatory T cell (Treg) stimulated with phytohemagglutinin (PHA). Administration of FPP suppressed tumor size and the incidence of malignancy. In vitro, treatment of PBMC with FPP induced IL-$1{\beta}$, $TNF{\alpha}$ and $IFN{\gamma}$ production. Moreover, FPP suppressed proliferation of PHA-stimulated Foxp3-expressing Treg. These results suggest that FPP has chemotherapeutic properties.

조선후기 시민의식의 성장에 관한 시각적 고찰 : 봉산탈춤 제 6과장 양반춤 탈을 중심으로

동서고금(東西古今)을 살펴 보면 역사에 우연은 없다. 반드시 인과응보(因果應報)적이다. 이는 정부와 국민들간의 관계에도 예외는 아닐 것이다. 이에 본 논문의 목적은 조선시대 후기 기득 세력이었던 양반층에 대한 일반 백성들의 정서를 당시 놀이 문화 중 하나였던 봉산탈춤을 통해 이해하는 데에 있다. 연구 대상으로는 전체구성 중'양반춤'에 등장하는'말뚝이 탈 서방님 탈 취발이 탈'로 선정하였다. 이는 시각디자인 관점에서 분석하는 데에 조형성과 풍자성을 겸비한 탈이 적격이라 판단되었기 때문이다. 분석 방법은 문헌 연구와 롤랑바르트의 신화론을 통하여 표현(expression)과 내용(contents)면으로 나누어 분석하였다. 이 둘은 분리될 수 없는 두 가지로 결합됨으로서 존재적 의미론을 갖는다. 분석 결과 당시 조선 후기 백성들은 여러 국가적 전란등을 통해 당시 기득 세력에 대한 실망감과 일반 백성들 중 일부는 부의 축척을 통한 내적 자신감을 갖게 되는 등 서서히 민중 의식이 성장하기 시작하였다. 특히 봉산탈춤이라는 민중 놀이 문화를 통하여 당시 양반들에 대한 불만을 우회적으로 풍자 비판했음을 알 수 있었다. For all ages and countries there is no historical coincidence. What goes around always comes around. The same principle is applied to the relationship between the government and the people. The objective of this study is to understand the emotions of the general people towards the nobleman class with the vested rights in the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty through the Bongsan masked dance which was one of the popular cultures at that time. 'Maldduggi Mask' 'Seobangnim Mask' and 'Chibari Mask' which appear in the 'Nobleman Dance' throughout the entire structure have been chosen as the subjects of the study. Such a decision has been made since it is believed that the mask with formative and satirical characteristics is appropriate for the analysis in terms of the visual design. The analyzing method has been divided into expressions and contents through the literal study and the mythology by Roland Barthes. Such two categories are united as two inseparable things providing ontological semantics. As a result of the analysis it has been found that some of those who lived in the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty were greatly disappointed about those with the vested rights at that time after experiencing various national crisises while others became internally confident through the accumulation of wealth. In such a situation the public awareness started to grow slowly. In particular it is possible to know that the dissatisfaction about the nobleman class was shown indirectly through the public culture of the Bongsan masked dance.

동국신속삼강행실도(東國新續三綱行實圖)에 나타난 시각 기호의 이데올로기에 대한 연구 : 롤랑바르트의 신화론 중심으로

새로운 정권이 들어서면 야심 찬 대국민 기획안을 발표하곤 한다. 이는 전 세계 어느 국가나 국민에게 새롭게 출범한 정부의 미래 청사진을 제시하는 것이기 때문에 너무도 당연한 것이다. 그럼 과거 정부(조정)는 과연 어떠했을까? 이러한 문제의식이 본 논문을 집필하는 계기가 되었다. 이에 연구 대상을 동국신속삼강행실도로 정한 이유는 과거 다른 행실도와는 달리 우리나라만의 사례와 가장 방대한 양을 가지고 있기 때문에 당시 사회상을 관찰하는데 더 유리 하리라는 판단에서였다. 연구 목적은 당시 조정은 어떠한 이데올로기와 신화를 백성들에게 주입하려 하였는지 분석하는 데에 있고 분석의 툴로는 이러한 숨어있는 의도를 파악하는 데 적절하다 생각되는 롤랑바르트의 신화론을 적용하였다. 분석 결과 당시 조정이 임진왜란으로 추락한 민심을 회복하기 위해 이 판본을 대 국민 이데올로기 계몽을 위해 사용하였음을 알 수가 있었고 백성들이 하늘을 원망하고 있을 때 이렇게 하는 것이 가장 인간다운 행동이고 이것이 곧 나라를 위하는 것임을 전달하려는 당시 조정의 신화가 내재 되어 있음을 또한 알 수가 있었다. Whenever a new government comes in the office it announces an ambitious plan for the people. Such a procedure would be natural since the new government is supposed to provide the public with a blueprint for the future. What did the government in the past do in such a case? Such a question has motivated me to write this paper. The reason why I have chosen 'Three Ethical Principles for Behaviors in Eastern Countries' as the topic of the study is that it has more cases for our country than any other source in the past. As a result I now believe that the topic which I have chosen would help me to observe the social prospects in the past. The objective of this study is to analyze the types of ideology and mythology which were used by the government in the past to persuade the public at that time. As a framework for analysis the mythology suggested by Roland Barthes has been applied since I believe that it is appropriate for identifying the hidden intention. According to the results of the analysis I am now aware of the fact that the government in the past used such an idea to enlighten the ideology of the ordinary people in order to recover the fallen sentiment of the public which was caused by the Japanese Invasion of Korea at that time. Also I am aware that the government in the past tried to notify the people of the most humane actions in order to help them to stop blaming God and find the way to make a contribution to the nation. All these things could be found in the mythology which was used by the government at that time.

LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS OF OFF-AXIS MIRROR OPTICS OF ALUMINUM FOR SPACE INFRARED MISSIONS

We report our research on aluminum mirror optics for future infrared astronomical satellites. For space infrared missions, cooling the whole instrument is crucial to suppress the infrared background and detector noise. In this aspect, aluminum is appropriate for cryogenic optics, because the same material can be used for the whole structure of the instrument including optical components thanks to its excellent machinability, which helps to mitigate optical misalignment at low temperatures. We have fabricated aluminum mirrors with ultra-precision machining and measured the wave front errors (WFEs) of the mirrors with a Fizeau interferometer. Based on the power spectral densities of the WFEs, we confirmed that the surface accuracy of all the mirrors satisfied the requirements for the SPICA Coronagraph Instrument. We then integrated the mirrors into an optical system, and examined the image quality of the system with an optical laser. As a result, the total WFE is estimated to be 33 nm (rms) from the Strehl ratio. This is consistent with the WFEs estimated from the measurement of the individual mirrors.

Academic Medicine은 환자 중심 의료이다

The tripartite mission of 'academic medicine' is education, research, and patient care. Academic medical centers (AMCs) are carrying out the mission and ultimately aiming to improve the health of people and communities. Globally, AMCs are facing a tremendous financial risk stemming from the changes in health insurance reimbursement plans and a shortage of human resources. Innovative AMCs in the United States are trying to transform their physician-centered, and siloed structure into a patient-centered, and integrated structure. They are also building integrated systems with primary healthcare groups to provide continuous patient care from primary to tertiary levels and making strategic networks based on value-based payment and the patient-centered model. These changes have been proven to improve outcomes of patient care and increase fiscal revenues, which are both crucial in supporting education and research. To address the shortage of human resources, programs are being built to develop newly appointed faculty for the future. AMCs have different approaches to bringing changes into their organizations; however, there is a common emphasis on 'a patient-centered approach,' which helps them set more explicit organizational values and make strategic decisions based on their values. Korean AMCs are facing similar challenges to AMCs in the United States in spite of many differences between the countries' healthcare systems. The innovative efforts of AMCs in the United States to address the challenges will be helpful, well-worked examples for Korean AMCs with similar challenges.
