Proceedings of International Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 244-254, 1999.-Obesity can be defined as a metabolic disease due to an increased state of fat tissues caused by an imbalance of calorie intake and use. Recently, in Korea by improvement and westernization of food intake, along with decrease in exercise activities, the prevalence of obesity has increased greatly. Our objectives were to study stability and effects of decrease in body fat by administering red ginseng compound preparation (known to have body fat decreasing effects in laboratory animals) to obesity patients on low calorie diets. Changes in weight and body fat were measured while carrying out calorie-restricted diets on patients for 4 weeks, then administering red ginseng compound preparation for another 4 weeks. The patients were 20 people whose BMI were 25kg/㎡ or over and whose percent body fat was also 30% or over when tested by bioelectrical conductivity. 1. Changes in weight were from 70.04kg(base line) to 67.43kg(after taking red ginseng compound preparation). 2. In similar sense, BMI decreased from 27.12kg/㎡(base line) to 26.56kg/㎡(after dieting), and further to 26.01kg/㎡ (after taking red ginseng compound preparation). The BMI seemed to decrease significantly compared to the baseline after the use of red ginseng compound. 3. Waist hip ratio was changed from 0.8858(base line) to 0.8728, but it was statistically insignificant. 4. The percent body fat was 35,16%(base line), 33.87%(after dieting), and 31.68%(after taking red ginseng compound preparation). 5. Complete blood cell count and blood chemisrty remained unaffected by the administration. 6. In concern to endocrinologic studies, T3 decreased from 118.7 to 98.2ng/dL, and T4 increased from 8.8 to 9.2㎕/ dL. Epinephrine showed a tendency to decreased from 0.27 to 0.25 ng/mL, and norepinephrine increased from 0.39 to 0.44ng/mL. 7. Leptin was not changed. 8. Some patients complained adverse effects; constipation(5 patients, may be due to diet therapy), fatigue (2 patients), pruritus(2 patients), flushing(s patients), dizziness(3 patients) and epigastric discomfort(2 patients). However their symptoms were mild, so medication did not stopped. In conclusion, loss of weight without significant side effects was observed during low calorie diet and red ginseng compound preparation administration. This is thought to be in relation to sympathetic nerve system rather than adrenal gland. Also, further long0term studies should be required, since the observed results were based on short-term changes in weight.

Since the reformation movement, the system renovation is consistently proceeding in China. The law system renovation in particular, is the work to establish 'the law government' concept which adapted as a means for strengthen the justification of ruling under the situation that the Chinese Communist Party is no longer take advantage of the revolution. Justifying the ruling of present Chinese government will be a visible outcome from reformation and globlization in the past 27 years. China is attempting to? establish the socialistic market economy, and through this, to stabilize the Communist Party ruling as a part of strengthened institution. The chief aim of civil law reformation is enactment of civil law by 2010. For China who considers herself as a nation of strong in culture, the enactment of ownership law will mean a great significance. The enactment of ownership law is the procedure which must be passed through, before civil law is enacted. China already has a strongly built market economy systems. Moreover, a liberalization movement for market economy is now more accelerating since WTO affiliation in 2001. However, the Chinese law system renovation has been proceeding mainly focused upon establishing market economy through stabilization of well going trades on the bases of economic law. This is the main reason of rushing to enact the law such as for bond issues and mortgages. The size of Chinese economy is expanded as big as the 4th place in the world, and the speedily proceeded urbanization and industrialization demand complicated and various economic activities. However it is true that the trade stabilization could no be achieved without the law concerning by which the ownership law can judicially be affiliated.

It has been well known that alcoholism is influenced by multiple factors such as biological, social and familial factors. Recently many researches are focusing on further investigation of biological aspects, especially on enzymes of acetaldehyde metabolism. The low Km aldehyde dehydrogenase(ALDH-I) has been implicated to play a major part in the metabolism of acetaldehyde. Therefore ALDH-I deficiency has been assumed to give rise to aversive effects to alcohol which are caused by a high blood acetaldehyde concentration. Recently Ethanol Patch Test(EPT) was suggested as a screening test to dectect ALDH-I deficiency. The mechanism of skin erythema of EPT is presumed to involve vasodilatatlon due to an accumulation of acetaldehyde in the skin. The lack of ALDH-I in the skin may be responsible for the delayed metabolism of acetaldehyde. This study was designed to evaluate the relationship between time of disappearance of skin erythema in EPT and aversive effects to alcohol in 38 alcoholic patients and 42 control subject. The results was as follow : 1) The difference of total lenght of times of disappearance of skin erythema in EPT between two groups was significant. 2)When a patch area showed erythema 10 minutes after removal, it was judged to be ALDH-I dificiency. 10.52% of alcoholic patients and 32.55% of control subjects were catergorized as ALDH-I deficient. 3) When the results of EPT were compared according to response degrees on each item in two groups, significant items were No. 1, 2, 14. 4) When the results of EPT were compared according to total scores on each dimension in two groups, physiological aversive and psychological aversive dimensions were significantly correlated only in control subjects.

Artificial pollen germination was examined to determine the suitable concentration of sugar medium, temperature and pH in four species of Lilium. Germination ratio was highest in the 5% sugar medium and at 25℃. And the most favorable pH was 6. In these conditions, elongation of pollen tube was also longest.

본 연구는 정권수립후 북한의 통일정책의 변천과정을 분석하고 있다. 알려진대로 북한은 전한반도의 공산화를 위해 전념해왔다. 북한은 한반도의 유일합법정부라 주장하면서 남한정부의 전복을 위한 통일전선전략을 통일정책의 기조로 유지해왔다. 이러한 목적에 의거해서 북한은 지금까지 민주기지 노선을 강화해오고 있다. 따라서 이 논문은 7장으로 구성되어 있는데, 제1장은 본 논문의 목적과 방향을 제시하고 있고, 제2장은 1948년에서 1950년까지의 민주기지노선을 설명하고 있고, 제3장은 1950년에서 1953년까지의 민족해방통일노선을 포함하고 있고, 제4장은 1953년에서 1960년까지의 평화통일노선을 언급하고 있고, 제5장은 1960년에서 1980년까지의 인민 민주주의 혁명노선을 분석하고 있고, 제6장은 1980년이후 연방제를 고찰하고 있다. 결론으로써 제7장은 북한통일정책 전반에 대해 평가하고 있다. This study attends to analyse the process of change about the unification policy of North Korea after taking power. As is well known, North Korea puts his heart and soul into the communizing the entire Korean Peninsula. The North Korean regime attempted to translate its claim of the only lawful government in Korea into action by seeking to overthrow the South Korean government. In according with the purpose, North Korea consolidated the line of democratic base in the peninsula until now. Accordingly, this treatise consists of seven chapters: Chapter Ⅰ presents the direction and aim of this dissertation. Chapter Ⅱ explains the line of the democratic base from 1948 to 1950. Chapter Ⅲ contains the line of national liberation unification from 1950~1953. Chapter Ⅳ writes up the line of peaceful unification from 1953~1960. Chapter Ⅴ is aimed at making an analysis of the line of people's democratic revolution from 1960~1980. Chapter Ⅵ analyses federalism after 1980. As for conclusion, chapter Ⅶ generally analyses the whole of unofication policy in North Korea.

Three different treatments for induction of estrus in Korean native black goats were compared: follicle stimulating hormone(FSH, FSH-p^TM), FSH combined with MAP(intravaginal impregnated sponges, Veramix^ⓡ, containing 60 ㎎ medroxy progesterone acetate for 14 days), and FSH combined with progesterone(Ovaron^ⓡ, 10 ㎎ IM for 10 days) and PGF_2α(Lutalyse^ⓡ, 3 ㎎ IM at first FSH injection). FSH for inducing estrus and superovulation was given a total 20 ㎎ intramuscularilly in decreasing dosage injections twice daily over 4 days. The MAPs were withdrawn at the 3rd day of FSH injection. Estrus observations were conducted every 6 hours from last FSH injection for 24 hours by placing the does with fertile male goats. Estrus and superovulation were more successfully induced with treatment of MAP + FSH than other treatments(FSH only, or progesterone + PGF_2α + FSH) (estrus induction; 100 vs 42.8 and 71.4%, ovulation points; 11.4 vs 5.4 and 4.4, respectively). The effect of gonadotropin releasing hormone(GnRH) on the ovulation rate was also examined. However, no difference was observed for inducing ovulation with treatment or dosage(100 ㎍ 200 ㎍) of GnRH. Low midline laparotomies were performed, and then ovarian responses (ovulations and follicular development) were examined by exteriorization of the reproductive tracts. Ova were recovered from oviducts by retrograde flushing 60-146 hours after MAP removal, and were classified the developmental stages. Overall 66.1% (236/357) of recovery rate was obtained from 30 superovulated does. The optimal recovery time of microinjectable 1-cell zygotes was approximately 72-76 hours after MAP removal.

The domestic M&A's market has been sluggish because of the specific cooperate structure like 'Chae-bul' and immaturity of the capital market in Korea. But these days it gets kind of brisk due to the open-door policy in the capital market and liberalization of foreign investment with the difficulty of mutual investment among the affliated companies of Chae-bul and the occupancy of management such as holding stocks. The strategy of the Korean firms against dynamic change of the domestic M&A's market requires understanding the substance of M&A. First, that understanding is a problem in which M&A is a desirable economic action. M&A can be defined as the replacement of the company with the new company or management, or the competition among the managements. It's a positive game rather than a zero-sum game because it can produce added value, Second, that understanding is a question of the open foreign policy in M&A's market. M&A funds are profitable as they're long-term investments in Korea and we can import technological know-how from overseas. Meanwhile the management defensive regulatory system against hostile M&A should be placed properly by two methods. One is to enlarge the defensive function such as strengthening the authority of the board of directors & the creation of modification of the articles of incorporation, and to restructure the company such as restructuring, merging, division. and unifying companies. The other is to ease the regulation of issuing CB and acquiring our own company's stock, Above all things, company's transparency, however, must be promoted, and management authority should be enlarged such as reengineering and lay-offs, and merged companies should be competitive by achieving an advanced technology.
