The purpose of this study is to discuss how to improve the maneuverability of lifting and diving for underwater vehicle's vertical motion. Therefore, to solve these problems, applied the 3-D numerical simulation, Taguchi's Design of Experiment (DOE), and intelligent parameter design methods, etc. We planned four steps as follows: firstly, we applied the 2-D flow simulation with NACA series, and then through the Taguchi's dynamic method to analyze the sensitivity (β). Secondly, take the data of pitching torque and total resistance from the Taguchi orthogonal array (L9), the ignal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and analysis each factorial contribution by ANOVA. Thirdly, used Radial Basis Function Network (RBFN) method to train the non-linear meta-modeling and found out the best factorial combination by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Weighted Percentage Reduction of Quality Loss (WPRQL). Finally, the application of the above methods gives the global optimum for multi-quality characteristics and the robust design configuration, including L/D is 9.4:1, the foreplane on the hull (Bow-2), and position of the sail is 0.25 Ls from the bow. The result shows that the total quality is improved by 86.03% in comparison with the original design.

Accurate measurements of ozone precursors are required to understand the process and extent of ozone formation in rural and urban areas. Nonmethane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) have been identified as important ozone precursors. Identification and quantification of NMHCs are difficult because of the large number present and the wide molecular weight range encountered in typical air samples. A major plan of the research team of the Climate and Air Quality Taiwan Station (CATs) was the measurement of atmospheric nonmethane hydrocarbons. An analytical method has been development for the analysis of the individual nonmethane hydrocarbons in ambient air at ppb (v) and subppb(v) levels. The whole ambient air samples were collected in canisters and analyzed by GC-FID with $Al_2O_3$/KCl PLOT column. Our targeted for quantitative analysis 43 compounds that may be substantial contributors to ozone formation. The retention indices and molar response factors of some commercially available $C_2{\sim}C_{10}$ hydrocarbons were determined and used to identify and quantify air samples. A quality assurance program was instituted to ensure that good measurements were made by participating in the International Nonmethane Hydrocarbon Intercomparison Experiments (NOMHICE).

ε-Poly-L-lysine (ε-PL) is a homopolymer of L-lysine molecules connected between the epsilon amino and alpha carboxyl groups. This polymer is currently used as a natural preservative in food. Insufficient biomass is a major problem in ε-PL fermentation. Here, to improve cell growth and ε-PL productivity, various nitrogen-rich nutrients were supplemented into flask cultures after 16 h cultivation, marking the onset of ε-PL biosynthesis. Yeast extract, soybean powder, corn powder, and beef extract significantly improved cell growth. In terms of ε-PL productivity, yeast extract at 0.5% (w/v) gave the maximum yield (2.24 g/l), 115.4% higher than the control (1.04 g/l), followed by soybean powder (1.86 g/l) at 1% (w/v) and corn powder (1.72 g/l) at 1% (w/v). However, supplementation with beef extract inhibited ε-PL production. The optimal time for supplementation for all nutrients examined was at 16 h cultivation. The kinetics of yeast-extract-supplemented cultures showed enhanced cell growth and production duration. Thus, the most commonly used two-stage pH control fed-batch fermentation method was modified by omitting the pH 5.0-controlled period, and coupling the procedure with nutrient feeding in the pH 3.9-controlled phase. Using this process, by continuously feeding 0.5 g/h of yeast extract, soybean powder, or corn powder into cultures in a 30 L fermenter, the final ε-PL titer reached 28.2 g/l, 23.7 g/l, and 21.4 g/l, respectively, 91.8%, 61.2%, and 45.6% higher than that of the control (14.7 g/l). This describes a promising option for the mass production of ε-PL.

The effects of O2 partial pressure during RF magnetron sputtering on the structural and nanomechanical properties of a-plane ZnO thin films were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and nanoindentation techniques. The XRD and the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) selected area diffraction results indicate that the epitaxial relationship between ZnO thin films and Al2O3 substrates is ZnO ð1120Þ//Al2O3 ð1102Þ. The average values of the hardness and Young’s modulus of the a-plane ZnO films were found to decrease with increasing oxygen partial pressure. The cross-sectional TEM revealing the localized plastic deformation of ZnO thin films beneath the Berkovich indenter, indicating the prominent role played by the threading dislocations in the film deformation behavior. At higher indentation loadings, the sapphire substrate exhibits extensive deformation with narrow slip bands appearing on {0001} plane. However, no evidence of pressure-induced phase transformation, as well as cracking and/or delamination phenomena at the filmesubstrate interface was observed.

A reasonable dielectric fluid velocity and better exclusion of debris are very important to obtain a stable machining performance in multi-cutting of WEDM-HS. We investigated the dynamic characteristics of multi-cutting wire electrode in WEDM-HS subjected to working fluid considering the effect of debris. First, a fluid-solid coupling nonlinear vibration model is derived by analyzing the forces acting on the multi-cutting wire which locate in the dielectric fluid. The additional axial force arising from the transverse vibration of the multi-cutting wire is considered as a nonlinear term in the model. Considering that the debris accumulation in discharge gap severely influences the stability of multi-cutting wire electrode, the relationship between the debris volume concentration and debris-working fluid two-phase flow drag coefficient is obtained using the Einstein two-phase flow viscosity theory. Finally, the influences of several parameters on the multi-cutting wire displacement are discussed in detail.
