        Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of 3-Styrylchromones in Alkaline Ionic Liquid

        A simple, highly efficient and environmentally benign method for the synthesis of 3-styrylchromones from 3-formylchromones and 4-nitrophenylacetic acid/4-nitrotolune in the presence of catalytic amount of basic ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydroxide [(bmim)OH] carried out under the influence of microwave irradiation. This method gives remarkable advantages such as, short reaction times, simple work-up procedure and moderate to good yields. The ionic liquid was successfully reused for four cycles without significant loss of activity.

        An Efficient Synthesis of 2,4,5-Triaryl-1H-Imidazole Derivatives Catalyzed by Boric Acid in Aqueous Media Under Ultrasound-Irradiation

        Boric acid ($BO_3H_3$) is an inexpensive, efficient and mild catalyst for the synthesis of 2,4,5-triaryl-1H-imidazoles in excellent yields from the one-pot three-component condensation of benzil/benzoin, an aldehydes and ammonium acetate in aqueous media under ultrasound at room temperature. The remarkable advantages offered by this method are green catalyst, mild reaction conditions, simple procedures, much faster reactions and excellent yield of products.

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Cu<SUB>2</SUB>SnS<SUB>3</SUB> (CTS) thin films have been successfully deposited on a cost-effective stainless steel substrate by simple and inexpensive chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. The films are deliberated in provisos of their structural, morphological, optical and photoelectrochemical (PEC) properties before and after annealing treatment, using various physico-chemical techniques. The XRD studies showed the formation of triclinic phase of CTS films with nanocrystalline structure. Also, the crystallinity is enhanced with annealing and the secondary phase of Cu<SUB>2</SUB>S observed. Raman analysis confirmed the formation of CTS compound with secondary Cu<SUB>2</SUB>S phase. The SEM images also discovered mostly tiny spherical grains and significant progress in the size of grains after annealing. The films possess direct transitions with band gap energies of 1.35eV and 1.31eV before and after annealing, respectively. The improved photoconversion efficiency of CTS thin film based PEC cell is explained with the help of theoretical modeling of energy band diagram and correspondent circuit model of the impedance spectra.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>(a) The schematic presentation for fabrication of CBD deposited CTS thin film.         Synthesis and Characterization of Tetradentate N<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub> Schiff Base Ligand and its Rare Earth Metal Complexes

        o-phenylenediamine, 3-acetyl-6-methyl-(2H)pyran,2,4(3H)-dione (dehydroacetic acid 또는 DHA) 및 2, 4-dihydroxy benzaldehyde에서 비롯된 4-hydroxy-3-(1-{2-(2,4-dihydroxy-benzylidene)-amino phenylimino}-ethyl)-6-methyl-pyran-2-one ($H_2$L)의 La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III) 및 Gd(III) 고체착물을 합성하여 원소분석, 전도도법, 자기수자율, UV-vis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, X-선 회절, 열분석으로 특성을 규명하였으며, 항미생물 활성도를 조사하였다. FT-IR 스펙트럼 결과에 의하면 이 리간드는 중심금속에 대해 ONNO 주개원자를 통해 이염기성 사배위 리간드로 행동함을 알 수 있다. 원소분석 결과로부터 이들 착물의 화학량론비는 1:1 (금속: 리간드)임을 알 수 있다. 물리 및 화학적 실험결과로부터 La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III) 및 Gd(III) 착물은 일그러진 팔면체의 기하구조를 가짐을 알 수 있다. X-선 회절 데이터로부터 La(III) 및 Ce(III) 착물은 단사정계, 그리고 Pr(III) 및 Nd(III) 착물은 사방정계를 가짐을 알 수 있다. 이들 착물의 열적 행동(TG/DTA)을 연구하였으며, 속도론적 파라메타를 Horowitz-Metzger 및 Coats-Redfern 방법으로 결정하였다. 리간드와 그 착물의 항박테리아 활성도를 Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli 및 Bacillus Sp.에 대해, 그리고 살균활성도를 Aspergillus Niger, Trichoderma 및 Fusarium oxysporum에 대해 각각 조사하였다. The solid complexes of La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III) and Gd(III) with 4-hydroxy-3-(1-{2-(2,4-dihydroxy-benzylidene)-amino phenylimino}-ethyl)-6-methyl-pyran-2-one ($H_2$L) derived from o-phenylenediamine, 3-acetyl-6-methyl-(2H)pyran,2,4(3H)-dione (dehydroacetic acid or DHA) and 2, 4-dihydroxy benzaldehyde have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductometry, magnetic susceptibility, UV-visible, FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis study, and screened for antimicrobial activity. The FT-IR spectral data suggest that the ligand behaves as a dibasic tetradentate ligand with ONNO donor atoms sequence towards central metal ion. From the microanalytical data, the stoichiometry of the complexes has been found to be 1:1 (metal: ligand). The physico-chemical data suggests distorted octahedral geometry for La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III) and Gd(III) complexes. The X-ray diffraction data suggests monoclinic crystal system for La(III) and Ce(III) and orthorombic crystal system for Pr(III) and Nd(III) complexes. Thermal behavior (TG/DTA) of the complexes was studied and kinetic parameters were determined by Horowitz-Metzger and Coats-Redfern methods. The ligand and its metal complexes were screened for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus Sp. and fungicidal activity against Aspergillus Niger, Trichoderma and Fusarium oxysporum.

        일련의 불소화된 티아디아졸 3, 트리아졸 4, 그리고 옥사디아졸 5이 (2-(6-Methyl-2-P-tolyl-lH-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-3-yl)핵종을 가지고 있는 티오세미카르바지드로 부터 합성되어진다. 초음파조사 방법 뿐만 아니라 일반적인 방법에 의해 반응이 진행되었다. 모든 생성물들은 IR, 1H NMR, MS로 구조가 결정되었고, 이들 화합물의 항균활성을 스크닝하였다. The synthesis of a series of fluorinated thiadiazoles 3, triazoles 4 and oxadiazoles 5 are synthesized from thiosemicarbazides 2 containing (2-(6-methyl-2-p-tolyl-lH-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-3-yl nucleus. These reactions were carried out by conventional method as well as ultra sound irradiation method. All products have been characterized by IR, 1H NMR, MS study and screened for their antimicrobial activity.

        Facile synthesis of Cu2SnS3 thin films grown by SILAR method: effect of film thickness

        <P>Ternary Cu-Sn-S system, Cu2SnS3 (CTS) thin films have been successfully deposited via successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method. The effect of film thickness on the structural, morphological, wettability and optical properties of CTS material is studied. The XRD studies confirm formation of triclinic (mohite) phase of CTS material. The SEM images show that entire film surface is covered by compact nearly spherical grains over growth of spongy clusters. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis revealed that the surface area of CTS material is 2.11 m(2) g(-1). The wettability study indicates hydrophilic nature of CTS samples. The optical band gap is decreased from 1.36 to 0.98 eV with increase in film thickness. The photoelectrochemical (PEC) study of CTS material shows anodic photocurrent indicating P-type electrical conductivity.</P>

        Renouncing you enjoy-Dying you live : On Understanding Life: "Be fruitful and multiply (Gen. 1.28) and Renunciation: From Hindu and Christian Perspective"

        논문에서는 세계화의 과정에서 사유화와 소비주의가 어떻게 가난한 이들과 자연자원들을 착취하게 되고 환경파괴로 이끌게 되는지 분석한다. 과거 몇 년간 그런 잘못된 개발이 일어나게 되었던 주된 이유는 인간의 권리에 대한 일방적인 강조와 인간의 책무를 무시 속에 있다고 생각된다. 그러므로 만연한 물질주의적인 태도, 개인의 찬미, 그리고 경쟁주의는 인간을 소외의 구렁텅이에 몰아넣게 되었다. 이 논문에서는 "하느님이 그들을 축복 하사 말씀하시기를 번영하고, 번성하며, 땅을 채우고 정복하라"고 하신 창세기 문헌과 "즐거움을 포기하라"는 이사 우파니샤드 문헌을 참조하여 합리적이고 관계지어진 존재로서 인간은 무한한 존재와 연합하여야 함을 보인다. 이것은 오직 포기의 정신을 가지고 물질적 존재들 및 다른 인간들과 접함에 의해서만 가능하다. 포기의 진정한 의미를 해석하고 그 정점은 기본적으로 사랑을 표현함에 있음을 보인다. 사랑은 스스로를 자발적으로 계속 희생하고 모든 사람을 위해 자신을 죽일 것을 요구한다. 그러나 사랑 때문에 스스로를 희생하고 스스로를 죽이는 것은 인간을 타인으로부터 소외시키기보다는 다른 창조물들과 연합하고 다른 모든 존재들과의 진정한 교감을 자기 안에 이룩할 수 있도록 해준다. 이 교감은 인간으로 하여금 무한한 존재에 영적으로 참여하게 하며 그를 영생으로 이끈다. 그러므로 타인을 위해서 스스로를 희생함으로써 인간은 즐겁게 그리고 영원히 살게 된다. The Paper analyses in the process of globalization how privatization and consumerism lead to exploitation of the poor, natural resources and to destruction of environment. The main reasons of such wrong development during the past years are considered in one-sided emphasis on human rights and negligence of human responsibilities. Thus permeating materialistic attitude, glorification of individual and the spirit of competition have thrown the human being into pit of isolation. Competition leads to the production of the destructive weapons, on the contrary cooperation among nations can lead to development and progress. Taking reference of the Genesis text "God blessed them, saying them, 'be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and conquer it," and the text from Isa Upanishad 'renouncing you enjoy' the paper shows that the human being as a rational and relational being has to be in union with the Infinite being. This is possible to him only through the contact with the material beings and other human beings in the spirit of renouncement. The paper interprets the real meaning of renouncement and shows its culmination basically expresses in the loving service. The loving service demands voluntary continuous sacrificing of the self and dying to the self from every person. However, on account of loving service act of sacrificing of the self and dying to the self don't segregate him from others rather he remains united with other created beings and it constitutes in him true communion with all other beings. This communion gives him a new spiritual participation with the Infinite Being and leads him to immortality. Therefore by sacrificing himself for others he lives joyously and also for ever.
