The contamination of food and feed by Aspergillus has becomea global issue with a significant worldwide economicimpact. The growth of Aspergillus is unfavourable to thedevelopment of food and feed industries, where the problemshappen mostly due to the presence of mycotoxins, which is atoxic metabolite secreted by most Aspergillus groups. Moreover, fungi can produce spores that cause diseases, such asallergies and asthma, especially to human beings. High temperature, high moisture, retarded crops, and poor food storageconditions encourage the growth of mold, as well asthe development of mycotoxins. A variety of chemical, biological, and physical strategies have been developed to controlthe production of mycotoxins. A biological approach, using a mixed culture comprised of Saccharomyces cerevisiaeand Lactobacillus rhamnosus resulted in the inhibition of thegrowth of fungi when inoculated into fermented food. Theresults reveal that the mixed culture has a higher potential(37.08%) to inhibit the growth of Aspergillus flavus (producerof Aflatoxin) compared to either single culture, L. rhamnosusNRRL B-442 and S. cerevisiae, which inhibit the growth by63.07% and 64.24%, respectively.
Longitudinal Penetration of Water through the Vessel and Wood Fiber in Castanea crenate
Sheikh Ali Ahmed,Su Kyoung Chun 한국가구학회 2008 한국가구학회지 Vol.19 No.2
An experiment was conducted to know ultra-pure distilled water penetration depth through large vessel, small vessel, latewood fiber and earlywood fiber in longitudinal direction of Castanea crenata. In heartwood, latewood fiber transported water more than large and small vessel. While in sapwood, small vessel conduction depth was found the highest. Penetration depth of water after 15.0 seconds, no significant difference was observed among earlywood fiber, latewood fiber and earlywood vessel. Whilst in heartwood, no statistical difference was observed among earlywood fiber, latewood fiber and earlywood vessel. At the beginning, the speed of water penetration was high and then gradually decreased.
Impregnation of Castanea creanata Wood by Hydrophobic Oil
Sheikh Ali Ahmed,Kyoung Min Lee,Su Kyoung Chun 한국가구학회 2008 한국가구학회지 Vol.19 No.1
This paper investigates the penetration of essential oil into radial and longitudinal directions of Castanea crenata. Present study was performed to know the essential oil penetration depth in radial and longitudinal direction of Castanea crenata. Essential oil penetration depth was found higher in longitudinal direction than in radial direction and it was about 53 times high at 15.0 second of penetration. In earlywood, fiber conducted oil more than that of large vessel. In heartwood, fiber had played an important role for the conduction of oil. But in sapwood, small vessel conducted oil deeper than wood fiber, which was also significantly different from large. On the other hand, large vessel in heartwood had statistically lower penetration depth than that of fiber and small vessel. At the beginning of penetration the speed was high and gradually decreased in course of time.
ON SOME MODELS LEADING TO QUASI-NEGATIVE-BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION
SHEIKH BILAL,ANWAR HASSAN 한국산업응용수학회 2007 Journal of the Korean Society for Industrial and A Vol.11 No.2
In this paper, we explore some interesting models of the quasi-negative-binomial distribution based on difference differential equations applicable to theory of microorganisms and the situations like that. Some characterizations based on conditional distributions and damage process have been obtained. Further, the distribution of number of accidents as the quasi-negative-binomial distribution in the light of Irwin's theory of "proneness-liability" model has been derived. Finally, the proposed model (QNBD) has been applied to study the Shunting accidents, borne injuries, and strikes in industries.
Longitudinal Conduction of Preservative Solution by Larix kaempferi
Sheikh Ali Ahmed,Jong In Kim,Su Kyoung Chun 한국가구학회 2008 한국가구학회지 Vol.19 No.2
Moisture content of Larix kapempferi was maintained at 28% after air drying. 5% CCFZ solution penetration depth was observed through longitudinal tracheid and axial resin canal. Penetration depth was increased significantly from heartwood to sapwood and the penetration depth was found 1.3 times higher for sapwood measured at 15.0 second of penetration. On the other hand, liquid flow in sapwood and heartwood involved most liquid first entering the resin canals. Overall resin canal conducted 1.4 times more than tracheid. Latewood was found more permeable than in earlywood. At the beginning of penetration, the speed was high and then decreased in the course of time.

Purpose : This study was performed to determine the prevalence of maxillary canine impaction on a basis of a single panoramic radiograph in Bangladeshi population. Materials and Methods : A random sample of seven hundred panoramic radiographs was collected from the patient record of a dental clinic. All the selected panoramic radiographs were taken from January 2009 to August 2010 by a single panoramic radiograph machine with the same exposure time (19 seconds) for all radiographs. One hundred and twenty panoramic radiographs were excluded to minimize the selection bias. In a dim lit room, an observer assessed the radiographs on a standard radiographic light box. The position of the impacted maxillary canine was recorded in line with the longitudinal axis of a tooth using the edge of a metal ruler. Data were subsequently put on SPSS 11.5 software and chi-square (χ^2) tests were applied to find out the association. Results : Among 580 panoramic radiographs it was found that impacted maxillary canines were present in only 7(1.2%) radiographs. A statistical significant difference was found between the age of the patients and the vertical position of the impacted canines (p=0.000) and between the age of the patients and the horizontal position of the impacted canines (p=0.003). Conclusion : The prevalence was found to be low compared with the present study from the limitation of panoramic image. Further study needs to include three-dimensional imaging modality.
Lateral Conduction of Preservative Solution in Larix kaempferi Woods
Sheikh Ali Ahmed,Jeong Hwan Park,Su Kyoung Chun 한국가구학회 2008 한국가구학회지 Vol.19 No.2
An experiment was conducted to observe the 5% CCFZ solution penetration depth through ray parenchyma and ray tracheid of Larix kapempferi. Moisture content was adjusted 28% for both sapwood and heartwood. Even though the moisture content was same, heartwood was 1.3 times less permeable than sapwood and the difference was found statistically significant. Due to anatomical differences between ray parenchyma and ray tracheid, ray parenchyma was about 1.3 times more permeable than ray tracheid. Penetration speed was high initially and it decreased rapidly in course of time.
The Spectrum of Genetic Mutations in Breast Cancer
Sheikh, Asfandyar,Hussain, Syed Ather,Ghori, Quratulain,Naeem, Nida,Fazil, Abul,Giri, Smith,Sathian, Brijesh,Mainali, Prajeena,Al Tamimi, Dalal M Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.6
Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women around the world. About one in 12 women in the West develop breast cancer at some point in life. It is estimated that 5%-10% of all breast cancer cases in women are linked to hereditary susceptibility due to mutations in autosomal dominant genes. The two key players associated with high breast cancer risk are mutations in BRCA 1 and BRCA 2. Another highly important mutation can occur in TP53 resulting in a triple negative breast cancer. However, the great majority of breast cancer cases are not related to a mutated gene of high penetrance, but to genes of low penetrance such as CHEK2, CDH1, NBS1, RAD50, BRIP1 and PALB2, which are frequently mutated in the general population. In this review, we discuss the entire spectrum of mutations which are associated with breast cancer.
