      • Enhancing Transmission Capacity of Weighted Networks

Fei Shao,Zinan Chang 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.9 No.1

How to control the traffic congestion and improve the transmission capacity of weighted network is of great importance in real world networks. In some weighted networks, the weight is the geographic distance between nodes. The transmission capacity of weighted network is investigated according to different node delivery capability schemes. In the schemes that delivery capability of each node is proportional to its degree and proportional to its strength, the transmission capacity can be enhanced greatly after deleting some edges while the network integrity is still maintained. Simulations show that deleting edges according to their original weight is proved to be more effective. It is of great practical importance in designing the network topological structure.

      • Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Awareness, Acceptability, and Decision-Making Factors among Chinese College Students

        Wang, Shao-Ming,Zhang, Shao-Kai,Pan, Xiong-Fei,Ren, Ze-Fang,Yang, Chun-Xia,Wang, Zeng-Zhen,Gao, Xiao-Hong,Li, Man,Zheng, Quan-Qing,Ma, Wei,Zhao, Fang-Hui,Qiao, You-Lin,Sivasubramaniam, Priya Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.7

Background: College students are recommended as the target groups for catch-up human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. Systematical exploration of awareness, acceptability, and decision-making factors of HPV vaccination among Chinese college students has been limited. Materials and Methods: A multi-center survey was conducted in mainland China between November 2011 and May 2012. College students aged 18-22 years were stratified by their grade, gender, and major for sampling. Socio-demographic and HPV-related information such as knowledge, perceptions, acceptability, and attitudes were collected through a questionnaire. Results: A total of 3,497 undergraduates completed the questionnaire, among which 1,686 were males. The acceptability of the HPV vaccine was high (70.8%). Undergraduates from high-level universities, at lower grade, or with greater prior knowledge of HPV vaccines showed higher acceptability of HPV vaccination ($p_{trend}$ <0.001). Additionally, undergraduates with vaccination experience outside the National Expanded Program on Immunization (OR=1.29; 95%CI: 1.10-1.51) or fear of HPV-related diseases (OR=2.79; 95%CI: 2.28-3.41) were more willing to accept HPV vaccination. General knowledge of HPV vaccine was low among undergraduates, and safety was a major concern (71.05%). The majority of students wished to pay less than 300RMB for HPV vaccine and chose the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention as the most appropriate venue for vaccination. Conclusions: Although most undergraduates demonstrate positive attitudes towards HPV vaccination, challenges pertaining to introduction exist in China. Corresponding proactive education and governmental subsidy to do so are urgently needed by this age-group population. Suggestions and potential strategies indicated may help shape the future HPV vaccination program in China.

      • Effects of Monoclonal Antibodies against Human Stathmin Combined with Paclitaxel on Proliferation of the QG-56 Human Lung Carcinoma Cell Line

        Yuan, Shao-Fei,Chen, Wen-Jun,Zhu, Lin-Jia,Zheng, Wei-E.,Chen, Hua,Xiong, Jian-Ping Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.6

Objective: To explore whether monoclonal antibodies against stathmin and the chemotherapuetic agent paclitaxel have synergenic effects in inhibiting growth and inducing apoptosis in human QG-56 cells. Methods: QG-56 cells were treated with monoclonal antibodies against stathmin or paclitaxel alone or in combination, with untreated cells used as controls. After 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours the cell growth condition was observed under an inverted microscope and inhibition was studied by MTT assay; apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry. Results: The populations decreased and cell shape and size changed after the various treatments. Monoclonal antibodies against stathmin and paclitaxel used alone or incombination inhibited the proliferation of QG-56 cells, especially in combination with synergism (P<0.05). Combined treatment also resulted in a significantly higher apoptosis rate than in the other groups (P<0.05). Conclusions: Monoclonal antibodies against stathmin and paclitaxel used alone or in combination can inhibit proliferation of QG-56 cells and induce apoptosis when applied together. The observed synergistic effects may have important implications for clinical application.

      • Classification of regular embeddings of hypercubes of odd dimension

        Du, Shao-Fei,Kwak, Jin Ho,Nedela, Roman Elsevier 2007 Discrete mathematics Vol.307 No.1

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>By a regular embedding of a graph into a closed surface we mean a 2-cell embedding with the automorphism group acting regularly on flags. Recently, Kwon and Nedela [Non-existence of nonorientable regular embeddings of n-dimensional cubes, Discrete Math., to appear] showed that no regular embeddings of the <I>n</I>-dimensional cubes Qn into nonorientable surfaces exist for any positive integer n>2. In 1997, Nedela and Škoviera [Regular maps from voltage assignments and exponent groups, European J. Combin. 18 (1997) 807–823] presented a construction giving for each solution of the congruence e2≡1(modn) a regular embedding Me of the hypercube Qn into an orientable surface. It was conjectured that all regular embeddings of Qn into orientable surfaces can be constructed in this way. This paper gives a classification of regular embeddings of hypercubes Qn into orientable surfaces for <I>n</I> odd, proving affirmatively the conjecture of Nedela and Škoviera for every odd <I>n</I>.</P>

      • Hsp90 Inhibitor Geldanamycin Enhances the Antitumor Efficacy of Enediyne Lidamycin in Association with Reduced DNA Damage Repair

Han, Fei-Fei,Li, Liang,Shang, Bo-Yang,Shao, Rong-Guang,Zhen, Yong-Su Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.17

Inhibition of heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) leads to inappropriate processing of proteins involved in DNA damage repair pathways after DNA damage and may enhance tumor cell radio- and chemotherapy sensitivity. To investigate the potentiation of antitumor efficacy of lidamycin (LDM), an enediyne agent by the Hsp90 inhibitorgeldanamycin (GDM), and possible mechanisms, we have determined effects on ovarian cancer SKOV-3, hepatoma Bel-7402 and HepG2 cells by MTT assay, apoptosis assay, and cell cycle analysis. DNA damage was investigated with H2AX C-terminal phosphorylation (${\gamma}H2AX$) assays. We found that GDM synergistically sensitized SKOV-3 and Bel-7402 cells to the enediyne LDM, and this was accompanied by increased apoptosis. GDM pretreatment resulted in a greater LDM-induced DNA damage and reduced DNA repair as compared with LDM alone. However, in HepG2 cells GDM did not show significant sensitizing effects both in MTT assay and in DNA damage repair. Abrogation of LDM-induced $G_2/M$ arrest by GDM was found in SKOV-3 but not in HepG2 cells. Furthermore, the expression of ATM, related to DNA damage repair responses, was also decreased by GDM in SKOV-3 and Bel-7402 cells but not in HepG2 cells. These results demonstrate that Hsp90 inhibitors may potentiate the antitumor efficacy of LDM, possibly by reducing the repair of LDM-induced DNA damage.

        Du, Shao-Fei,Kwak, Jin Ho,Nedela, Roman Elsevier 2005 European journal of combinatorics : Journal europ& Vol.26 No.3

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>In this paper, we classify all regular embeddings of the complete multipartite graphs <I>K</I><I>p</I>,…,<I>p</I> for a prime <I>p</I> into orientable surfaces. Also, the same work is done for the regular embeddings of the lexicographical product of any connected arc-transitive graph of prime order <I>q</I> with the complement of the complete graph of prime order <I>p</I>, where <I>q</I> and <I>p</I> are not necessarily distinct. Lots of regular maps found in this paper are Cayley maps.</P>

      • Expression of β-tubulin III and Survivin in Advance Stage Breast Cancer Correlates with Chemotheraputic Effects of Docetaxel

        Yuan, Shao-Fei,Zhu, Lin-Jia,Zheng, Wei-E,Chen, Hua,Wu, Li-Li,Zhang, Wu,Sun, Hong-Yu,Chen, Wen-Jun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.1

Aims: To investigate the relationship between the expression of ${\beta}$-tubulin III and survivin in advanced breast cancers and chemotherapeutic effects of docetaxel. Methods: Clinical pathological data of 74 patients with advanced breast cancer were retrospectively analyzed after docetaxel chemotherapy. Expression of ${\beta}$-tubulin III and survivin was assessed by immunohistochemistry and analyzed with reference to therapeutical and adverse effects of docetaxel. Results: The positive expression rate of ${\beta}$-tubulin III was 38.1% (32/84), while that of survivin was 76.2% (64/84). The effective rate (complete response + partial response) was 52.4%. That for patients with the positive expression of ${\beta}$-tubulin III or/and survivin was significantly lower than for those with negative expression (P<0.05). There were significant differences in the non-progression of median diseases, 1-year and 2-year survival rates of between the patients with positive and negative expression (P<0.05). The main side effects were myelosuppression, alimentary canal response and alopecie, no differences being observed between groups. Conclusions: The combined detection of ${\beta}$-tubulin III and survivin is a predictive index for chemotherapy effects of docetaxel in metastatic breast cancer.

Methods: 64 patients with advanced ovarian cancer were divided into an experimental group (44 cases) and a control group (20 cases). The experimental group was treated with continuous intravenous infusion of gemcitabine at 1000 $mg/m^2$ with a fixed-dose rate of 10 $mg/m^2/min$, on days 1 and 8 and oxaliplatin at 100 $mg/m^2$ on day 1, IVGTT, repeated every 3 weeks. The control group was treated with intravenous infusion of gemcitabine at 1000 $mg/m^2$ within 30 min on days 1 and and oxaliplatin at 100 $mg/m^2$ on day 1, IVGTT, again repeated every 3 weeks. CT scans or MRI were used for review every 1-2 cycles. Results: The effective rate in the experimental group was significantly high than control group (43.2% vs 35.0%; P < 0.05), with no obvious difference of hematologic or non-hematologic toxicity between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: GEMOX regimen is very effective to treat advanced ovarian cancer, with low toxicity, good tolerance and improved life quality in patients.

      • Traffic Driven Epidemic Spreading in Weighted Homogeneous Networks

Zinan Chang,Fei Shao 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.8 No.1

To investigate the impact of weights on the traffic driven epidemic spreading in weighted homogeneous networks, an epidemic model in pseudo-random network with adjustable weights is presented. In the scenario that epidemic pathway is defined and driven by traffic flows, the epidemic spreading velocity of SI model in weighted homogeneous networks is obviously accelerated when the edge weight is different. And in traffic driven SIS model, the epidemic threshold is found to be proportional to the inverse of the average node betweenness. It is better to control the epidemic spreading when the edges have the same weight. Simulation results have confirmed the theoretical predictions.

      • AntagomiR-27a Targets FOXO3a in Glioblastoma and Suppresses U87 Cell Growth in Vitro and in Vivo

        Ge, Yun-Fei,Sun, Jun,Jin, Chun-Jie,Cao, Bo-Qiang,Jiang, Zhi-Feng,Shao, Jun-Fei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.2

Objective: To study the effect of the antagomiR-27a inhibitor on glioblastoma cells. Methods: The miR-27a expression level in specimens of human glioblastoma and normal human brain tissues excised during decompression for traumatic brain injury was assessed using qRT-PCR; The predicted target gene of miR-27a was screened out through bioinformatics databases, and the predicted gene was verified using genetic report assays; the effect of antagomiR-27a on the invasion and proliferation of glioma cells was analyzed using MTT assays and 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) labeling. A xenograft glioblastoma model in BALB-c nude mice was established to detect the effect of antagomiR-27a on tumour growth. Results: qRT-PCR results showed that miR-27a significantly increased in specimens from glioblastoma comparing with normal human brain tissues. Th miR-27a inhibitor significantly suppressed invasion and proliferation of glioblastoma cells. FOXO3a was verified as a new target of miR-27a by Western blotting and reporter analyzes. Tumor growth in vivo was suppressed by administration of the miR-27a inhibitor. Conclusion: MiR-27a may be up-regulated in human glioblastoma, and antagomiR-27a could inhibit the proliferation and invasion ability of glioblastoma cells.
