68Ga‑DOTANOC PET/CT for Screening and Surveillance of Von Hippel‑Lindau (VHL) disease
Shamim Ahmed Shamim 대한핵의학회 2023 핵의학 분자영상 Vol.57 No.5
Purpose Hereditary tumor syndrome Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease is characterized by various benign and malignanttumors that are known to express somatostatin receptors (SSTR). We evaluated the role of 68Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT scan inpatients with positive germline mutation of the VHL gene, presented initially or on follow-up, for the detection of recurrentor synchronous/metachronous lesions. Methods Fourteen patients (8 males; 6 females) with mean age 30 ± 9.86 years were retrospectively analyzed, were testedpositive for VHL on gene dosage analysis, and underwent 68 Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT scan for disease evaluation. The numberand site of lesions were determined. The tracer uptake was analyzed semi-quantitatively by calculating the maximumstandardized uptake values (SUVmax) of lesion. Results Four of the 14 patients underwent scan for initial diagnosis as baseline, 6 patients for post-therapy disease status, and 4 patients for initial diagnosis as well as follow-up evaluation of the disease. A total of 67 lesions were detected in 14patients. The sites of lesions were cerebellar/vertebral/spinal (17; mean SUVmax = 7.85); pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor(NET) (11; mean SUVmax = 20.64); retina (3; mean SUVmax = 10.46); pheochromocytoma (10; mean SUVmax = 16.32);paragangliomas (3; mean SUVmax = 10.65); pancreatic cyst (9; mean SUVmax = 2.54); and renal cyst (8; mean SUVmax= 1.56) and miscellaneous lesions constituted 6 lesions. Conclusion Our results show that 68 Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT may be a useful modality for screening and follow-up of associatedtumors in patients with germline gene mutation for VHL. It can be used as a one-stop imaging modality for VHL patientsand may substitute for separate radiological investigations, making it more convenient for patients in terms of time and cost.

Objectives:Cassia occidentalis L. is a weed belonging to the Caesalpiniaceae family. The root of this medicinal plant is used for the treatment of various ailments, including kidney diseases. The present study was aimed at evaluating the nephroprotective effects of HAE of the roots of Cassia occidentalis L. against gentamicin-induced renal toxicity in albino Wistar rats. Methods:The renal toxicity was induced by subcutaneous administration of gentamicin at 100 mg/kg in the rats belonging to the disease control and treatment groups from the 4th to the 8th day. The rats in the treatment group received HAE of the roots of Cassia occidentalis L. at 67 mg/kg b. w. orally for 8 days, while no treatment was given to the rats in the disease control and plain control groups. At the end of the experiment, renal biomarkers viz; s. creatinine, b. urea, and s. uric acid, were investigated. The histopathological examination of the kidney specimens was also carried out. Results:The results of the present study revealed that renal function biomarkers such as s. creatinine, b. urea, and s. uric acid were significantly reduced in the rats of the treatment group as compared to those of the disease control group. Moreover, the histoarchitecture reports of the treatment group’s kidney specimens showed significant improvements. Conclusion:The results suggested that the HAE of Cassia occidentalis L. roots promisingly prevented kidney injury in gentamicin-induced nephrotoxic rats. This effect might be due to improved clearance of gentamicin from the renal tubule and decreased generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Structural characterization of industrial-grade poly(1,4-phenylene sulfide) (PPS) batch samples (solution- andmelt-polymerized) can only be carried out using expensive and least available solid-state NMR/high-thermal viscometer dueto their insolubility in common organic solvents even at 200 oC. In the present study, we prepared sulfonated PPS (sPPS)which is soluble in common organic solvents even at ambient temperature conditions, thereby facilitating its easiercharacterization in the solution state at R.T. using FTIR, NMR, and solution-viscosity measurements. sPPS was synthesizedthrough the anionic modification of PPS using chlorosulfonic acid (ClSO3H) and dichloromethane as a function of varyingPPS:ClSO3H mole ratio (1:5 and 1:10) and sulfonation time (1 to 48 h). A previously unreported methodology to identify thebranching types (phenylene and sulfide branching) in PPS was carried out using 1H-NMR curve-fitting analysis withLorentzian equation. Melt-polymerized PPS samples were analyzed to contain about two times higher degree of branchingthan the solution-polymerized PPS ones.
Application of Geospatial Technology for the Promotion of Tourist Industry in Srinagar City
Shamim Ahmad Shah,Muzafar Ahmad Wani 보안공학연구지원센터(IJUNESST) 2015 International Journal of u- and e- Service, Scienc Vol.8 No.1
Tourism is a relaxation place for people and people can plan their tourist places based on Information. GIS -based information is gaining greater importance among tourists as it allows to familiarize with places, have profound appeal for the trip planning. Srinagar city is famous tourist destination of India, visited by huge number of tourists from different parts of the world annually. The number of tourists visited the city in 1990 was 10623 which increased to 112012 in 2000 and in year 2013 more than 13 lakh, the number can be dramatically increased, given the nature of tourism potential of the city. But in the absence of Tourist Information System, tourists face various difficulties in locating various tourist related products. The Geospatial technology has transformed every sphere of life and tourism industry cannot be exception. The purpose of the present study is to develop an interactive and user-friendly Geographic Information System (GIS) enabled data base for various amenities viz. hotels, guest houses, house boats, road networks, airport, railway station, parks, shrines, play grounds, golf course, water bodies etc. in ESRI’s ArcGIS 10.1 software which could be easily uploaded on web to disseminate proper information to world over. Toposheets, maps satellite images, GPS and field surveys were used to generate the above mentioned data layers and then multimedia data like video clips, audio narrations and photographs were integrated with each feature to make comprehensive tourist information system. A major strength of this paper is that TIS is one time investment and can be updated as and when needed. It provides tools to display raw data in the form of 3D maps, SQL, understand Patterns, relationships and trends and overlay those databases in highly interactive ways which is not possible with traditional spreadsheets. The present study actively demonstrated the potential of geospatial technology application to explore destination and its facilities like hospitals, ATM Centers, hotels, restaurants, resorts and filling stations etc. and developmental planning, project monitoring and publicity of tourist products. The present study can be indispensable for other allied departments’ viz police, planning, public administration, disaster management, transportation, health etc.
The Psychosomatic Disorders Pertaining to Dental Practice with Revised Working Type Classification
Shamim, Thorakkal The Korean Pain Society 2014 The Korean Journal of Pain Vol.27 No.1
Psychosomatic disorders are defined as disorders characterized by physiological changes that originate partially from emotional factors. This article aims to discuss the psychosomatic disorders of the oral cavity with a revised working type classification. The author has added one more subset to the existing classification, i.e., disorders caused by altered perception of dentofacial form and function, which include body dysmorphic disorder. The author has also inserted delusional halitosis under the miscellaneous disorders classification of psychosomatic disorders and revised the already existing classification proposed for the psychosomatic disorders pertaining to dental practice. After the inclusion of the subset (disorders caused by altered perception of dentofacial form and function), the terminology "psychosomatic disorders of the oral cavity" is modified to "psychosomatic disorders pertaining to dental practice".
