Psychometric Properties of the Child Feeding Scale in Turkish Mothers

Sevinç Polat1,Behice Erci 한국간호과학회 2010 Asian Nursing Research Vol.4 No.3

Purpose The objective of this study was to adopt the Child Feeding Scale (CFS) to the Turkish language and culture and to assess the validity and the reliability of the Turkish version of the scale. Methods The research was methodological study design. A convenience sample of 158 mothers at a primary health care center completed a structured questionnaire including the CFS for mothers in 2008. Results In the assessment of construct validity, seven factors were identified; they related to Perceived Responsibility, Perceived Parent Weight, Perceived Child Weight, Concern About Child Weight, Pressure to Eat, Restriction, and Monitoring. The seven factors explained 57.6% of the total variance. The overall internal reliability coefficient of this scale was .75. Conclusions The present study provides evidence of the CFS’s validity and reliability. The scale has potential applications for use in research. The CFS can be used to assess aspects of child-feeding perceptions, attitudes, and practices and their relationships to children’s developing food acceptance patterns, the control of food intake and obesity.

Influence of a glide path on the dentinal crack formation of ProTaper Next system

        Sevinç Aktemur Türker,Emel Uzunoğlu 대한치과보존학회 2015 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.40 No.4

Objectives: The aim was to evaluate dentinal crack formation after root canal preparation with ProTaper Next system (PTN) with and without a glide path. Materials and Methods: Forty-five mesial roots of mandibular first molars were selected. Fifteen teeth were left unprepared and served as controls. The experimental groups consist of mesiobuccal and mesiolingual root canals of remaining 30 teeth, which were divided into 2 groups (n = 15): Group PG/PTN, glide path was created with ProGlider (PG) and then canals were shaped with PTN system; Group PTN, glide path was not prepared and canals were shaped with PTN system only. All roots were sectioned perpendicular to the long axis at 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 mm from the apex, and the sections were observed under a stereomicroscope. The presence/absence of cracks was recorded. Data were analyzed with chi-square tests with Yates correction. Results: There were no significant differences in crack formation between the PTN with and without glide path preparation. The incidence of cracks observed in PG/PTN and PTN groups was 17.8% and 28.9%, respectively. Conclusions: The creation of a glide path with ProGlider before ProTaper Next rotary system did not influence dentinal crack formation in root canals.

Effects of dentin moisture on the push-out bond strength of a fiber post luted with different self-adhesive resin cements

        Sevinç Aktemur Türker,Emel Uzunoğlu,Zeliha Yılmaz 대한치과보존학회 2013 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.38 No.4

Objectives: This study evaluated the effects of intraradicular moisture on the pushoutbond strength of a fibre post luted with several self-adhesive resin cements. Materials and Methods: Endodontically treated root canals were treated with oneof three luting cements: (1) RelyX U100, (2) Clearfil SA, and (3) G-Cem. Roots werethen divided into four subgroups according to the moisture condition tested: (I) dry:excess water removed with paper points followed by dehydration with 95% ethanol,(II) normal moisture: canals blot-dried with paper points until appearing dry, (III)moist: canals dried by low vacuum using a Luer adapter, and (IV) wet: canals remainedtotally flooded. Two 1-mm-thick slices were obtained from each root sample and bondstrength was measured using a push-out test setup. The data were analysed using atwo-way analysis of variance and the Bonferroni post hoc test with p = 0.05. Results:Statistical analysis demonstrated that moisture levels had a significant effect on thebond strength of luting cements (p < 0.05), with the exception of G-Cem. RelyX U100displayed the highest bond strength under moist conditions (III). Clearfil SA had thehighest bond strength under normal moisture conditions (II). Statistical ranking ofbond strength values was as follows: RelyX U100 > Clearfil SA > G-Cem. Conclusions:The degree of residual moisture significantly affected the adhesion of luting cements toradicular dentine.

Different Biopolymers' Effects on the Evaluation and Characterization of Floating Tablets Prepared by Lyophilization Technique to Improve the Quality Control Parameters

        Rukiye Sevinç Özakar,Emrah Özakar 한국고분자학회 2022 폴리머 Vol.46 No.2

Conventional oral drug systems are unable to keep drug concentration within the therapeutic range, and administration of the dosage form several times a day can cause significant fluctuations in plasma drug concentration. Therefore, floating drug delivery systems are being developed. In this study, floating tablets with a model drug (ampicillin sodium-Amp.Na) were successfully prepared using different polymers by the lyophilization technique. This study aims to prepare and characterize floating lyophilized tablets to understand the effect of different biopolymers on quality control parameters more clearly. Within the scope of characterization studies, many parameters were evaluated successfully. All tablets showed 24-hour release and had a mesoporous structure, as understood from the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. It has been determined from the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses that Amp.Na doesn’t interact with excipients and is an amorphous form. These formulations can be used for other drugs in the future, and optimum properties can be easily characterized.

A micro-computed tomography evaluation of voids using calcium silicate-based materials in teeth with simulated internal root resorption

        Vildan Tek,Sevinç Aktemur Türker 대한치과보존학회 2020 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.45 No.1

Objectives: The obturation quality of MTA, Biodentine, Total Fill BC root canal sealer (RCS), and warm gutta-percha (WGP) in teeth with simulated internal root resorption (IRR) was evaluated by using micro-computed tomography. Materials and Methods: Standardized IRR cavities were created using 40 extracted maxillary central incisor teeth and randomly assigned into 4 groups (n = 10). IRR cavities were filled with MTA, Biodentine, Total Fill BC RCS (bulk-fill form) and WGP + Total Fill BC RCS. Percentage of voids between resorptive cavity walls and obturation material (external void), and inside the filling materials (internal voids) were measured. Results: Total Fill BC sealer in the bulk-fill form presented significantly highest values of external and internal void percentages (p < 0.05). Biodentine showed a significantly lowest external void percentage (p < 0.05). WGP + Total Fill BC RCS presented significantly lower values of internal void percentages than all groups (p < 0.05), except Biodentine (p > 0.05). Conclusion None of the filling materials were created void-free obturation in resorption cavities. Biodentine may favor its application in teeth with IRR over Angelus MTA and bulk-fill form of Total Fill BC.

Maternal Identity Development Education on Maternity Role Attainment and My Baby Perception of Primiparas

Hava Özkan,Sevinç Polat 한국간호과학회 2011 Asian Nursing Research Vol.5 No.2

Perpose There are no interventional study results directed at maternal identity development education, including all stages of maternity role attainment, for expectant mothers with healthy babies. This research was conducted to assess the effect of maternal identity development education on the maternity role attainment and my baby perception of primigravidas. Methods The research was carried out by using pretest-posttest quasi-experimental model with control group. A total of 120 mothers and their babies participated in this study. In the collection of the data, Personal Information Form, Semantic Differentation Scale-Myself as Mother and My Baby and the Pharis Self-Confidence Scale were used. Results It was detected that the training of identification development given for the mothers increased score averages taken from the scales of Myself as Mother, My Baby and the Pharis Self-Confidence Scale; this increase was statistically significant. There was a significant positive correlation between the Pharis Self-Confidence Scale post-test score averages and scales of Myself as Mother and My Baby. Conclusions Nurses should offer maternal identity development education, support the baby perception process in the early postnatal stages, and help develop the self-confidence of the mother in order for mothers to develop successful motherhood behaviors. Maternal identity development education should be routinely offered to all expectant mothers by specialized nurses, not just to primigravidas. There is a requirement for similar studies to be conducted on broader populations related to the subject.

Influence of size and insertion depth of irrigation needle on debris extrusion and sealer penetration

        Emel Uzunoglu-Özyürek,Hakan Karaaslan,Sevinç Aktemur Türker,Bahar Özçelik 대한치과보존학회 2018 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.43 No.1

Objectives To determine the effect of size and insertion depth of irrigation needle on the amount of apical extruded debris and the amount of penetration depth of sealer using a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). Materials and Methods Twenty maxillary premolars were assigned to 2 groups (n = 10), according to the size of needle tip, 28 G or 30 G. Buccal roots of samples were irrigated with respective needle type inserted 1 mm short of the working length (WL), while palatal roots were irrigated with respective needle type inserted 3 mm short of the WL. Prepared teeth were removed from the pre-weighed Eppendorf tubes. Canals were filled with F3 gutta-percha cone and rhodamine B dye-labeled AH 26 sealer. Teeth were transversally sectioned at 1 and 3 mm levels from the apex and observed under a CLSM. Eppendorf tubes were incubated to evaporate the irrigant and were weighed again. The difference between pre- and post-weights was calculated, and statistical evaluation was performed. Results Inserting needles closer to the apex and using needles with wider diameters were associated with significantly more debris extrusion (p < 0.05). The position of needles and level of sections had statistically significant effects on sealer penetration depth (p < 0.05 for both). Conclusions Following preparation, inserting narrower needles compatible with the final apical diameter of the prepared root canal at 3 mm short of WL during final irrigation might prevent debris extrusion and improve sealer penetration in the apical third.

Lupus nephritis presenting with massive ascites and pleural effusion (pseudo-pseudo Meigs’ syndrome)

        ( Rabia Deniz ),( Gülşah Hacımurtazaoğlu-demir ),( Bilgin Karaalioğlu ),( Duygu Sevinç Özgür ),( Gamze Akkuzu ),( Fatih Yıldırım ),( Cemal Bes ) 대한류마티스학회 2024 대한류마티스학회지 Vol.31 No.2

The triad of ascites, pleural effusion, and elevated cancer antigen-125 (CA-125) levels in the absence of ovarian malignancy in systemic lupus erythematosus patients is specifically named pseudo-pseudo Meigs’ syndrome (PPMS) or Tjalma syndrome. In this case we reported a 33 years female patient with pleural effusion lasting for 3 years and new onset progressive massive ascites and increased level of CA-125. After she was evaluated for an underlying benign and malign ovarian tumor or any other malignancies, serologic tests were requested with respect to progressive renal dysfunction, proteinuria, lymphopenia, anemia, and effusion. She was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythamatosus (SLE) and renal biopsy showed class-V lupus nephritis. Immunosuppressive treatment led to improvement in both SLE activity and components of PPMS, including massive ascites and pleural effusion and without the need of diuretics. Co-existence of unexplained CA-125 increase, pleural effusion, and ascites might be related to PPMS and detailed examination to exclude malignancy and early and effective treatment of SLE are the mainstay of management.

Analyzing Country Images through Networks : Case of South Korea

Efe Sevin,Kadir Jun Ayhan,Diana Ingenhoff 이화여자대학교 국제통상협력연구소 2020 Asian International Studies Review Vol.21 No.2

As communication moves to social media, countries are losing control over what messages are being circulated about themselves. This article explores how South Korea’s country image is reflected within this contemporary networked communication context. We argue that country images, defined as the perceptions of countries by foreign audiences, can be swayed not only by official actors engaging in public diplomacy and nation branding projects but by any internet user who contributes to a marketplace of images. Using a social listening platform, we captured all the tweets about South Korea sent from June 01, 2019 to Jan 31, 2020. Combining textual and network analyses, our study looked at the main actors, topics, and network structures that influence South Korea’s country image on Twitter. Our findings suggest that there is no unified South Korean country image, rather diverse and relatively dispersed images. We further found that official actors had limited impact on the conversations surrounding South Korea due to their insular activities. Our methodology and findings contribute to the nascent body of empirical works in country image studies.
