In this study, we investigated PM_(10), NO₂, and 1-hydroxypyrene(1-OHP) in urine at indoor environments which are 35 houses and 20 hospitals for using air cleaner and non-using air cleaner in Seoul metropolitan area and Kyoung-gi province from April, 2003 to February, 2004. Moreover, we examined effect of improvement for indoor air quality and health effect by concentration of 1-OHP also we investigated removal efficiency by air cleaner for PM_(10), NO₂, and 1-OHP that were 28.5%, 27.4%, and 42.1% respectively. Concentration of PM_(10), NO₂, and 1-OHP were 19.02±18.14μg/m³, 8.66±3.06ppb, and 0.19±0.18μg/g creatinine when air cleaner was no worked. The concentration for PM_(10), NO₂ and 1-OHP were 13.60+10.79μg/m³, 6.29±2.71ppb, and 0.11±0.10μg/g creatinine, respectively. It was significant statistically. Therefore, it is considered using the air cleaner to remove the partial pollutants in indoor environment and is positive effect for health.

Anticancer resistance is one of the major problems in the clinical cancer chemotherapy. Of resistance mechanisms are ATP (ATP-binding cassette) transporters including P-glycoprotein. In this paper, ABC transporters with respect to the physiological functions and multidrug resistance mechanisms as well as the development of chemosensitizers for their reversal have been reviewed.

The high-strength ready-mixed concrete(HS-RMC) which is obtained by adding some mixtures has many differences in mechanical properties, mix-proportions, etc. to normal-strength concrete. Recently, the necessity and the importance of high-strength concrete is emphasized, because the high-strength concrete has been used in constructions of various structures frequently. Until now, the studies on characteristics and behaviors of high-strength concrete have been carried out only through mostly laboratory tests, instead of considering actual construction situation. Therefore, the economical and the stable aspects for high-strength ready-mixed concrete construction should be guaranteed with commonly used materials for concrete and without supervising various conditions of in-situ construction. In this paper, mix-proportions for manufacturing the high-strength ready-mixed concrete which have compressive strengths of 400, 550 and 700kg/㎠ at 28-day are presented by priliminary and actual mix-designs.
전자장 노출에 따른 Melatonin 대사저하 및 리듬 변화

Marked increase of electric use in our daily lives has expanded our exposures to electromagnetic fields(EMF) whose effects on human health have long been out of scientific concern. Exposures to EMF are weakly but consistently associated with incidence of cretain types of cancer, particularly leukemia, brain tumor and breast cancer, and, moreover, may have detrimental effects on reproduction. In spite of many suggestive epidemiological data, biological mechanisms linking/underlying between exposures to EMF and the suggested outcomes have not been clarified well yet. Melatonin(N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine), a principal hormone of pineal gland,is synthesized from serotonin by the action of N-acetyltransferase(NAT) and hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase(HIOMT). The possible linkage between the mechanism of breast cancer incidence and suppression of pineal melatonin production has been hypothesized, based on the results of studies that reduction of pineal melatonin production. This review will discuss the findings from the results of relationship EMF exposure and the change of melatonin secretion and their circadian rhythm.
제브라피쉬에서 transposon을 이용한 enhancer trap 시스템의 개발

The zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a vertebrate model system suitable for fishing/hunting novel functional genes in post-genome era. Researchers are able to observe various developmental stages of transparent zebrafish embryos within 24 hours. Moreover, the genome structure of zebrafish is quite similar to that of mammals, including human. Characterization of various type of mutations revealed that zebrafish is an excellent animal model for the study of various human diseases. For that reason many researchers have used zebrafish in large-scale chemical mutagenesis. So far, a lot of mutants have been made by chemical mutagenesis method. However, it is burdensome and time-consuming to identify the target gene of specific mutant. Recently, insertional mutagenesis was considered as an alternative strategy in comparison with chemical mutagenesis. In this study, we describe the use of zebrafish model system for the experimental possibility of insertional mutagenesis. We have established the enhancer trap vector through Tol2 transposon, which is one of the improvable insertional mutagenesis system. We also introduce several methods of insertional mutagenesis based on Tol2 transposon system. It allows us to easily and quickly screen the target gene of mutant made by Tol2 enhancer trap system, which will be a useful method for the large-scale mutagenesis.

Yongdam multipurpose dam is under construction to divert a part of Geum riverflow to Mankyung watershed and to supply the domestic water to the Chunju region and produce the hydro-electricity. Generally, construction of dam by the method of inter-regional water transfer affects the quantity and quality of water in the down streams and reservoirs. The impact of operation plan of Yongdam dam on the quantity and quality of water in the Geum river and Daechung dam was investigated. It was recommended that the discharge of water transfer from one watershed to another should be minimized as much as possible.
