        Genome-wide investigation of a Korean synthetic breed, Woori-Heukdon using the Illumina PorcineSNP60K BeadChip

        Background: Woori-Heukdon (KWH) is a Korean synthetic pig breed generated using Chookjin-Duroc (KCD), Chookjin-Chamdon (KCC), and their crossbreds. Currently, there is a severe lack of studies investigating the Korean breed populations including wild boars (KWB) throughout the genome. Objective: This study was performed to investigate the genetic characteristics of Korean pig populations at the genome-wide level. Methods: Using the SNP dataset derived from genotyped and downloaded datasets using the Illumina PorcineSNP60K BeadChip, we compared the genomes of 532 individuals derived from 23 pig breeds to assess the genetic diversity, inbreeding coefficient, genetic differentiation, and population structure. Results: KWB showed the lowest average expected heterozygosity (HE = 0.1904), while KWH showed the highest genetic diversity (HE = 0.02859) among Korean populations. We verified that the genetic composition of KWH, showing USD of 74.8% and KCC of 25.2% in ADMIXTURE analysis. In population structure analyses, KCC was consistently shown to be separated from other pig populations. In addition, we observed gene flow from Western pigs to a part of Chinese populations. Conclusion: This study showed that Korean native pigs, KCC have genetic differences in comparison with Chinese and Western pigs; despite some historical records and recent genetic studies, we could not find any clear evidence that KCC was significantly influenced by Chinese or Western breeds in this study. We also verified the theoretical genomic composition of KWH at the molecular level in structure analyses. To our knowledge, this is the first genomic study to investigate the genomic characteristics of KWH and KCC.

      • Comparative Analysis of Cell-to-Cell Voltage and Internal Parameters Variation for the series/parallel battery pack

        This paper presents the effect of the internal parameter for the number of the parallel of battery packs. Battery packs are consisted of high-power INR-18650 25R cells. Internal parameters are extracted by discharge capacity experiments and open circuit voltage (OCV) - hybrid pulse power characterization (HPPC) experiments, which are electrical characteristics experiments. Internal parameters such as OCV, voltage deviation, temperature and internal parameters are compared according to parallel connection. This paper proposes a series/parallel-equivalent circuit model made by cell extension and compares the actual battery pack model with the extended battery pack model at a cell. A comparison of the actual battery pack and extended cell model shows analysis of changes in the parallel connection of the battery pack correlated with the safety of battery packs.

        The Bioenergy Conversion Characteristics of Feedlot Manure Discharging from Beef Cattle Barn

        This study was carried out to assess bioenergy conversion efficiency by biogas and solid fuel production in the cattle feedlot manure discharged from beef cattle barn. Feedlot manure was sampled from the cattle farmhouse located in Yong-in, Gyeonggi during the mid-fattening stage, periodically. The chemical characteristics, BMP (Biochemical methane potential) and HV (Heating values) of feedlot cattle manures were analyzed. Total solid contents of cattle feedlot manure were in the range of 29.98~44.28%, and volatile solid contents were in the range of 23.53~24.47%. In the anaerobic digestion of cattle feedlot manure, the methane production potential has increased from 0.141 to 0.187 Nm<SUP>3</SUP> kg<SUP>-1</SUP> -VSadded. The methane production of fresh cattle feedlot manure showed the range 0.141~0.187 Nm<SUP>3</SUP> kg<SUP>-1</SUP> -Manure (average 0.047 Nm<SUP>3</SUP> kg<SUP>-1</SUP> -Manure), the LHVs (lower heating values) of the produced methane were in the range of 316~560 kcal kg<SUP>-1</SUP> -Manure (average 400 kcal kg <SUP>-1</SUP> - Manure). In the direct combustion of fresh cattle feedlot manure, the LHVs were measured in the range of 747~1,271 kcal kg<SUP>-1</SUP> -Manure (average 916 kcal kg<SUP>-1</SUP> -Manure), and LHVs of solid fuel which have the water content of 20% were in the range of 2,694~2,876 kcal kg<SUP>-1</SUP>-Manure (average 2,791 kcal kg<SUP>-1</SUP> -Manure). Then, the drying energy of average 443 kcal kg<SUP>-1</SUP> -Manure was consumed in the production of solid fuel which has a water content of 20%. Therefore, the direct combustion of cattle feedlot manure showed about 2.3 times higher LHV than the LHV of methane produced by anaerobic digestion. And LHV of solid fuel was about 6.0 times higher than the LHV of methane produced by anaerobic digestion. Then, the production of solid fuel presented more bioenergy conversion efficiency than the biogas production in the bioenergy use of cattle feedlot manure.

        Locoregional recurrence is the most common type of recurrence in surgical operation of gastric adenocarcinoma, and peritoneal dissemination is one of the most difficult problems in advanced gastric adenocarcinoma treatment. Because the peritoneal cavity is the most common site of the first recurrence after gastric cancer resection, intraperitoneal chemotherpy seems a logical choice for cancer chemotherapy. The Mitomycin C(MMC) adsorbed by the activated charcoal particles(CH) is relatively released when the drug concentration surrounding the carbon particles becomes low in the peritoneum of the peritoneal cavity. For the intraperitoneal chemotherapy on the advanced gastric adenocarcnoma, mitomycin C adsorbed on activated carbon particles was administered in the peritoneal cavity just before abdominal wall closure. The closed drainage tubes were inserted in the peritoneal cavity and clamped for tuo hours after completion of operation. MMC concentrations were serially measured in peritoneal fluid, plasma and urine at 2hour, 48 hour, 72 hour and 168 hour following its administration in order to study the efficacy of the MMC-CH as a drug delivery system. There were minimal toxicities in born marrow, liver, and gastrointestinal system after intraperitoneal MMC-CH administration. The data of this study suggested that MMC-CH may have a somewhat more beneficial effect than surgery alone when administered in optimal dose and schedules, but the MMC concentration of the peritoneal fluid was not sufficient to eradicate remnant cancer cells, and effective duration of maintenance was only below 24 hours in the peritoneal fluid and plasma.

        본 연구는 충청북도 영동군에 있는 두 산간마을을 중심으로 공간통사론의 '정량적인 해석을 통하여 공간 구성의 특성을 파악하였다. 취락구조 및 외부공간구성에서 나타난 특성을 살펴보면 다음과 같이 나타나는데, 두 산간마을의 내부도로는 큰길-어귀길-안길-샛길-골목길 등 위계적인(전통적인) 길의 체계를 유지하고 있는데, 마을에 대한 외부인의 방문시에는 안길 등 통합적인 공간에서 영향이 크게 나타나고 있으며, 공간이 깊어질수록 거주자에게 영향이 크게 나타난다. 가옥의 좌향은 일조보다는 길을 향하여 배치가 결정되어 있으며, 주거의 마당은 통로로서 길의 역할도 수행하고 있어 거주자들은 마을에 대한 공동체의식에 대해 개방되어있다. 또한 두 마을은 경사의 형태에 따라 인지도와 접근성에 대해 각각 다른 차이를 보인다. This study examines the Space Syntax theory of the spatial system of settlement in central mountain villages by means of analyzing the spatial organization and the structural characteristics of the two mountain villages in Young-Dong district, Ch'ung-buk province. The conclusions are as follow: The village's street has a grade of rank in the exterior spatial structure, and it is found out one of the most important feature that the unification of inside street with the function for checking outsiders. Also, it is found out important feature that the lay of house in arrangement has been fixed by the street rather than the sunshine, and since a housing yard has been performed the part of street as the path, the residents are open to the community consiousness for the village. Also a couple village is distinct between the recognizability and approachability according to the slanted shape.

      • 생체분해성 망막압정을 이용한 망막고정에 대한 실험적 연구

        Biodegradable retinal fixation devices obtain mechnical fixation of the retina with desirable chorioretinal scarring and with the potential for local, sustained release of antimetabolites and steroids to inhibit proliferative vitreoretinopathy. We manufactured a biodegradable retinal tack with barb that was designed in order to prevent intrusion from implantation of retinal tacks. This study was carried to evaluate the efficacy for retinal fixation and the capability for sustained release of drugs with a newly designed biodegradable retinal tack Biodegradable retinal tacks were made of polymers of glycolic acids and were designed with barbs in a shape to prevent the disinsertion. Biodegradale retinal tacks are divided into 3 parts, a conical portion that is inserted into the sclera, a cylinder portion that remains in the vitreous, and a neck portion between the pin and the cylinder. The tapered conical end was manufactured to allow easy insertion through the retina and choroid into the sclera. A cylinder portion was manufactured with a tapered angle that fixes firmly into the orifice of 19 gauge spinal needle. A neck portion, 0.4 mm in diameter, was designed to prevent disinsertion from following implantation of retinal tack. The applicator was a 19 gauge spinal needle and its orifice was prepared to 15°angle to accept the tapered cylinder portion of the retinal tack. The retinal tacks, secured in the needles, were passed through the formed vitreous and inserted into the retina, choroid, and sclera and were released by pushing the internal needle, usually within 2-3mm of the medullary ray of the posterior rabbit retina A retinal tack was placed in each of 8 pigmented rabbit eyes. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy and fundus photography were performed periodically from 1 day to 8 weeks after surgery. Eight eyes were enucleated and studied by light microscopy at 8 weeks. Biomicroscopic evaluation of the animals revealed edemas adjacent to the retinal surfaces immediately after insertion of the biodegradable retinal tacks in all the animals. These edemas disappeared after 1 week. The first noticeable change in the size of retinal tacks was shown after 2weeks. The size of the retinal tacks gradually got smaller, decreasing to about one-half at 4 weeks and about one-third at 8 weeks. All retinal tacks remained in inserted places without any movement for an 8 week period. On light microscopy, epiretinal proliferations were seen to extend into the vitreous cavity. Cellular capsules that lined the inner aspect of the scleral defect caused by tack insertion were found. However the adjacent retina had a normal cytologic appearance and architecture in all specimens. We manufactured a biodegradable retinal tack that is designed to prevent intrusion from implantation of retinal tacks. All biodegradable retinal tacks reduce in size with time, but no retinal tacks extruded from the inserted place. The newly designed biodegradable retinal tack can be used for retinal fixation and may be used as a vehicle for the introduction of pharmacologic agents to prevent the cellular events that promote proliferative vitreoretinopathy.

      • Rat의 복강에 삽입한 Fluorouracil-Polyglycolic acid 제형의 Fluorouracil 용출에 관한 연구

        A common form of relapse in adenocarcinoma of the stomach is intraperitoneal dissemination, in fact, among gastric adenocarcinoma patients who have undergone surgery intended to cure, approximately 50% of the patients develope initial recurrence in the peritoneal cavity regardless of the anatomic site of the primary tumor within the stomach. The efficacy of systemic postoperative chemotherapy to prevent peritoneal recurrence of gastrric adcnocarcinoma is not satisfactory. There is still a great need for improved therapeutic strategies on the disseminated microscopic disease and small miliary nodules remaining on the peritoneal surface or lymphatics after operation. The authers have made fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid composite disks(Fu-PGA disks) with fluorouracil and biodegradable polymer: polyglycolic acid for more effective intraperitoneal chemotherapy. We inserted the Fu-PGA disk(s) in the peritoneal cavity of rat and pharmacokinetic study was performed to measure fluorouracil concentration in the peritoneal fluid, plasma, liver, kidney and heart tissue at 24 hour, 72 hour and 168 hour after insertion of Fu-PGA disk(s). Myelosuppressive action of this composite also was determined following its administration. The data of this study suggested that Fu-PGA composite will be a new device releasing drugs in a controlled manner and having targetability to peritoneum, and this device will be improving the efficacy of intraperitoneal chemotherapy for gastric adenocarcinoma.

        Radio frequency coil which is capable of transmit and receive the signal has been used for image production in magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). Tuning and matching characteristic of radio frequency coil is major factor determining the image quality. In experiment the used coil was called a staircase type coil which is simplified the birdcage coil and referred to a simple LC resonant circuit. Because the inductance values of the coils are fixed coil performance was examined by changing of the capacitance values. In this study capacitance values were experimentally determined to increase of-tuning and matching effect in junction of the coil between coil endring and BNC cable to obtain the high quality of image.

        아파트경매에서 낙찰가율의 결정요인에 대한 연구

        In this paper, we study the highest bid price determination mechanism of the court auction markets for apartments that are under distraint because of the insolvency of the owner of the apartments. In addition to the typical variables used in previous literatures on the determination of highest bid price, we add the variables that represent the characteristics of the tenants categorized by the priority order of the tenants’ deposits in the distribution process of the money obtained from the auction of the apartments. Unlike our general perception, the results show that the presence of pretense tenants on the priority list of the distribution of dividend from the auction hardly affects the determination of the highest bid price. In addition, the presence of legal counter power of tenants against the landlord does not affect the highest bid price, either. The first policy implication of this paper is that to set up a fair institutional mechanism in court auction market for apartments under distraint, the auction court needs to ask the applicant of the auction to prove whether the listed tenants are true to eliminate the pretense tenants. The second policy implication is that the court needs to disapprove the seniority of the pretense tenants’ claim on the distribution of dividends from auction of the apartments.
