The main purpose of the present study is to perform numerical study on bouncing and separation collision between two droplets considering the collision-induced breakup. In this study, the collision model proposed in our previous study is used for simulation of collision-induced breakup, and we modify this model to consider the effect of liquid property on the behavior of droplet-droplet collision. This collision model is based on the conservation laws for mass, momentum, and energy between before and after collision and provides several formulae for post-collision characteristics of colliding droplets and satellite droplets. Improving the accuracy of the model, in this study, appreciate criterion for bouncing collision is added and dissipation energy during collision process is newly modeled. To validate the new model, numerical calculations are performed and their results are compared with experimental data published earlier for binary collisions of water, propanol, and tetradecane droplets. It is found from the results that the new model shows good agreement with experimental data for the number of satellite droplets. It can be also shown that the predicted mean diameter by the new model decrease with increasing the Weber number because of the collision-induced breakup, whereas the O'Rourke model fails to predict the size reduction via the binary droplet collision.

<P>TmBa<SUB>2</SUB>Cu<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>7</SUB> <SUB>-</SUB> <SUB>x</SUB> films which is one of the (Rare earth)Ba<SUB>2</SUB>Cu<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>7</SUB> <SUB>-</SUB> <SUB>x</SUB> high temperature superconductors with small ionic radius of rare earth element, were deposited on STO (100) single crystal substrates and Y<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>/YSZ/CeO<SUB>2</SUB> buffered metal substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The J<SUB>c</SUB> (77 K) and the value of onset of Tc TmBCO thin film on STO substrate was 4.5 MA/cm<SUP>2</SUP> and 86 K, respectively. The of J<SUB>c</SUB> TmBCO coated conductor on metal substrate was 1 MA/cm<SUP>2</SUP> . In-field property measurement was carried out at temperatures between 10 K and 77 K in magnetic filed up to 6 T in PPMS system. This is the first report, to the best of our knowledge, of TmBCO thin films and coated conductors with TmBCO film as the superconducting layer which have critical current densities at 77 K of 4.5 MA/ cm<SUP>2</SUP> and 1 MA/cm<SUP>2</SUP> , respectively. The superconducting properties of TmBCO films and the possibility of using TmBCO film as the superconducting layer of the HTS coated conductor, were investigated.</P>

The proliferation of bone marrow stem cell compartment is thought to be under both positive and negative controls by cytokines and colony stimulation factors. Macrophage inflammatory protein-1α(MIP-1α) has been assessed for its potential to protect hematopoietic stem cells from cytotoxic effects of a cycle-specific antineoplastic agents. We have tested the ability of MIP-1α to suppress the proliferation of stem cell line Du.528.101 in variety of active status by using [³H]-thymidine incorporation test. The results were as follows. 1. The effect of MIP-1α on steady-state Du.528.101 cell represented the cell growth suppression at the concentration of 10, 50, 100nM of MIP-1α(P<0.001). 2. MIP-α stimulated the proliferation of Du.528.101 cells previously treated with IL-1 at the concentration of 5, 50nM of MIP-1α(P<0.01) 3. The suppression effect of MIP-1 on Du.528.101 cells at the concentration of 5, 50nM was shown when cells were treated with MIP-1α before activation with IL-1β(P<0.01). 4. The growth rate of synchronized cells were slower than that of non-synchronized ones, and MIP-1α represented the similar suppression effect on both synchronized and non-synchronized cells.

This study was aimed at furnishing the data of infraorbital wall fractures and aiding treatment. This is the retrospective study on infraorbital wall fractures. The patients were treated in the Dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of Chon-Buk National University Hospital from Jan. 1, 1996 to Sep. 30, 1999. The result were as follows : Male predominated over female by a ratio of 3.57 : 1. The most common reason was traffic accident(64.1%) . The elapsed time from injury to operation was average 10.4 days. The most frequent site of fractures was Zygomatico-Maxillary complex fracture(61.7%) . The highest department of associated injuries was neurologic Dept. (52.3%). The complication after fractures were the ophthalmologic(20.3%), esthetic(14.8%), facial numbness(4.7%) , etc in this order. The highest ophthalmologic complications was the enophthalmos(7%) .

VPI occurs when the velum and lateral and posterior pharyngeal wall fail to separate the nasal cavity from the oral cavity during deglutition and speech. There are a number of congenital and acquired conditions which result in VPI. Congenital conditions include cleft palate, submucous cleft palate and cogenital insufficiency (CPI). Acquired conditions include carcinoma of the palate or pharynx and neurologic disorders. The speech characteristics of VPI is characterized by hypernasality, nasal air emission, decreased intraoral air pressure, increased nasal air flow, decreased intelligibility. VPI can be treated with various methods that include speech therapy, surgical procedures to reduce the velopharyngeal gap, speech aid prosthesis, and combination of surgery and prosthesis. This article describes four cases of VPI treated by speech aid prosthesis and speech therapy with satisfactory result.
Kirschner wire를 사용한 과두하 골절의 구강내 접근법

The treatment of mandibular subcondylar fractures is a matter of controversy. The majority of mandibular subcondylar fracture are treated by closed reduction, but the displaced or dislocated mandibular subcondylar fractures may be treated by open reduction. The characteristics of open reduction are the anatomical reduction, the functional restoration, the rapid function, the maintenance of vertical ramus dimension, the better appearance and the less resultant TMJ problem etc. When an open reduction is considered, the wire, miniplate, lag screw and Kirschner wire are available with internal fixation. Of these, Kirschner wire is a simple method relatively and correct positioning of the wire achieves rigid fixation. But many open reduction methods for mandibular subcondylar fractures require extraoral approach. The extraoral approach has some problems, the facial scar and the risk of facial nerve injury. On the other hand, the intraoral approach eliminates the potency of the facial scar and the facial nerve injury, but is difficult to access the operation site. Since the intraoral approach was first described by Silverman (1925), the intraoral approach to the mandibular condyle has been developed with modifications. The purpose of this article is to describe the intraoral technique with the Kirschner wire on mandibular subcondylar fractures. Conclusion : The intraoral reduction with Kirschner wire on mandubular subcondylar fractures avoids the facial scar and facial nerve injury and is simple method to the extraoral approach. And it has minimal morbidity and better esthetics.
Modified Hogan 법을 이용한 범인두 부전 환자의 인두피판 성형술

A competent velopharyngeal sphincter is essential for intelligible speech. If the velopharyngeal incompetence exist, the seal will not be complete during speech, with a resultant hypernasal speech quality. The patient with velopharyngeal incompetence(VPI) may develope other compensatory speech problems. There are many approaches available to correct veolpharyngeal incompetence, which include speech therapy, push back palatorrhaphy, pharyngeal wall implants and pharyngoplasty. This is cases report of velopharyngeal incompetence, which were successfully treated by superiorly based pharyngeal flap, covered with splitted hinge flap of nasal lining mucosa of the soft palate, named modified Hogan method. The advantages of this method are precision in the approximation of the flap due to pentagonal shaped flap design, good flood supply due to omission of the midsagittal incision on nasal lining mucosa, and simplicity than Hogan method.

The orthognathic surgery for esthetic and functional improvement has developed for 150 years. Today, we can expect the better prognosis which is based on the early trial & error and advanced analysis technique. However, conservatism which advocates upholding of traditions and passive changes has been obstacle to scientific modernization as a contemporary co-worker. IVRI, ILRO, IVSRO, IVRO-SSRO, SSRO have been used to orthognathic surgery variously. In this article, we are going to compare IVRO, ILO with SSRO and advocate superiority of SSRO.
