The City and the Stranger between Monetary Relations and Spiritual Heritage

This paper focuses on the rapidly-changing, hybrid face of Istanbul in light of the dichotomy between essential spiritual traditions and complex monetary relations and their ability to synthesise by means of intermediate forms. In this article, I ask the question of how the money economy has reformed the spiritual background of the city—which once was associated with the refulgent silhouette of the imperial periods—through the film A Run for Money (1999). This film depicts the complicated confrontation between past and future, between spiritual heritage and change, as well as between value and money. According to this film’s scenario, one day, Selim, the stranger—the protagonist who plays a well-behaved and honest merchant—finds a bag of money and succumbs to its evil, changing his life entirely. This transformation thus reveals, not only the story of a man but also the socio-urban experience of the city.

The spectral problem \[\begin{matrix} -{y}''+q(x)y=\lambda y,{ }0<x<1, \\ y(0)\cos \beta ={y}'(0)\sin \beta ,{ }0\le \beta <\pi ;{ }\frac{{y}'(1)}{y(1)}=h(\lambda ), \\ \end{matrix}{ }\] is considered, where $\lambda $ is a spectral parameter, $q(x)$ is real-valued continuous function on $[0,1]$ and \[h(\lambda )=a\lambda +b-\sum_{k=1}^{N}{\frac{{{b}_{k}}}{\lambda -{{c}_{k}}}},\] with the real coefficients and $a\ge 0,{{b}_{k}}>0,{{c}_{1}}<{{c}_{2}}<\cdots<{{c}_{N}},N\ge 0.$ The sharpened asymptotic formulae for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of above-mentioned spectral problem are obtained and the uniform convergence of the spectral expansions of the continuous functions in terms of eigenfunctions are presented.
LabVIEW-based Remote Laboratory Experiments for a Multi-mode Single-leg Converter

This study presents the design and implementation of a web-based remote laboratory for a multi-mode single-leg power converter, which is a topic in advanced power electronics course. The proposed laboratory includes an experimental test rig with a multi-mode single-leg power converter and its driver circuits, a measurement board, a control platform, and a LabVIEW-based user interface program that is operated in the server computer. Given that the proposed web-based remote laboratory is based on client/server architecture, the experimental test rig can be controlled by a client computer with Internet connection and a standard web browser. Although the multi-mode single-leg power converter can work at four different modes (main boost, buck?boost, boost?boost, and battery boost modes), only the buck?boost mode is used in the experiment because of page limit. Users can choose the control structure, control parameters, and reference values, as well as obtain graphical results from the user interface software. Consequently, the feedbacks received from students who conducted remote laboratory studies indicate that the proposed laboratory is a useful tool for both remote and traditional education.

Background and Objectives: Conflicting mechanisms have been reported about spontaneous reversal of positional nystagmus during head-roll maneuver in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). The objective of this study is to review the reports about the characteristics and possible mechanisms of reversing positional nystagmus and to present seven new cases.Subjects and Methods: Seven cases (5 males, 2 females; 4 left-sided, 3 right-sided) were recruited among 732 patients with BPPV seen outpatient clinic between 2009 and 2019. Diagnosis of lateral canal canalolithiasis was confirmed when transient geotropic nystagmus was documented during head-roll test. Reversing positional nystagmus was analyzed in each case and clinical characteristics of the patients were documented.Results: The age of patients was ranging between 30 to 64 years (46.44±10.91). Duration of symptoms was short (21.34±19.74). Six of them had a story of head trauma. Initial latency was short. First, intense geotropic nystagmus was observed following provocative head-roll position on the affected side. There was short “silent phase”. Then, a longer second-phase of reversed nystagmus was noted. Total duration of nystagmus was 78.40±6.82 seconds. Maximal slow phase velocity was 24.05±6.34 deg/sec. All patients were cured with barbeque maneuver.Conclusions: Ipsilateral reversing positional nystagmus during head-roll maneuver is due to lateral canal canalolithiasis. Mechanism is likely to be due to endolymphatic double flow. Bilateral cases may be due to simultaneous co-existence of canalolithiasis and cupulolithiasis. Longer recording of nystagmus is recommended not to miss the cases with spontaneous direction-changing positional nystagmus.

In this article, the dynamic parameters (frequencies, mode shapes, damping ratios) of the scaled concrete structure and the dynamic parameters (frequencies, mode shapes, damping ratios) of the entire outer surface of titanium dioxide, 80 micron in thickness are compared using operational modal analysis method. Ambient excitation was provided from micro tremor ambient vibration data on ground level. Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition (EFDD) was used for the output only modal identification. From this study, a good correlation between mode shapes was found. Titanium dioxide applied to the entire outer surface of the scaled concrete structure has an average of 11.78% difference in frequency values and 10.15% in damping ratios, proving that nanomaterials can be used to increase rigidity in structures, in other words, for reinforcement. Another important result determined in the study was the observation of the adherence of titanium dioxide and similar nanomaterials mentioned in the introduction to concrete structure surfaces was at the highest level.
The determination of effect of TiO<sub>2</sub> on dynamic behavior of scaled WPC warehouse by OMA

The dynamic properties (frequencies, mode shapes, damping ratios) of the scaled WPC warehouse are compared using the operational modal analysis approach to the dynamic parameters (frequencies, mode shapes, damping ratios) of the full outer surface of titanium dioxide, 70 micron in thickness. Micro tremor ambient vibration data on ground level was used to provide ambient excitation. For the output-only modal identification, Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition (EFDD) was used. This study discovered a strong correlation between mode shapes. Titanium dioxide applied to the entire outer surface of the scaled WPC warehouse results in an average 14.05 percent difference in frequency values and 7.61 percent difference in damping ratios, demonstrating that nanomaterials can be used to increase rigidity in structures, or for reinforcement. Another significant finding in the study was the highest level of adherence of titanium dioxide and similar nanomaterials mentioned in the introduction to WPC structure surfaces.

Objective: Surgical resection of benign intradural extramedullary tumors (BIETs) is effective for appropriately selected patients. Minimally invasive surgical (MIS) techniques have been described for successful resection of BIET while minimizing soft tissue injury. Augmented reality (AR) is a promising new technology that can accurately allow for intraoperative localization from skin through the intradural compartment. We present a case series evaluating the timing, steps, and accuracy at which this technology is able to enhance BIET resection. Methods: A protocol for MIS and open AR-guided BIET resection was developed and applied to determine the feasibility. The tumor is marked on diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using AR software. Intraoperatively, the planning MRI is fused with the intraoperative computed tomography. The position and size of the tumor is projected into the surgical microscope and directly into the surgeon's field of view. Intraoperative orientation is performed exclusively via navigation and AR projection. Demographic and perioperative factors were collected. Results: Eight patients were enrolled. The average operative time for MIS cases was 128 ± 8 minutes and for open cases 206 ± 55 minutes. The estimated intraoperative blood loss was 97 ± 77 mL in MIS and 240 ± 206 mL in open procedures. AR tumor location and margins were considered sufficiently precise by the surgeon in every case. Neither correction of the approach trajectory nor ultrasound assistance to localize the tumor were necessary in any case. No intraoperative complications were observed. Conclusion: Current findings suggest that AR may be a feasible technique for tumor localization in the MIS and open resection of benign spinal extramedullary tumors.
