Ergogenic Aids as a Means for Increasing Athlete Working Capacity in the High Altitude Environment

        ( Sergiy Oliynyk ),( V. Shevchenko ) 한국스포츠정책과학원(구 한국스포츠개발원) 2009 International Journal of Applied Sports Sciences Vol.21 No.1

Dietary supplement Antihot(R) was tested as a potential means for increasing human working capacity in a high altitude environment. During three days the volunteers (athletes specializing in mountaineering) climbed to the height of 3,700 m above sea level by marches of 15 km each with a load of 35-40 kg. Twenty nine young men aged 20-35 years old participated in the trip, and 15 of them were taking Antihot(R) in capsules, 1 capsule (0.5g) three times a day during a meal, for 4 days. The other 13 men, who were included in the control group, were taking a placebo under a similar routine. Besides hypoxic hypoxia the ascent was complicated by the night temperature fall to -5℃, preventing the climbers from having rest and recreation. It was registered that with taking Antihot(R) the climbing was easier to tolerate. The number of complaints recorded in a mountain experience questionnaire decreased, and, above all, the course of halt recreation had run much quicker. In the upland environment, the improvement of a feeling of health was recorded, physical loads got easier to overcome, and fatigue was lowered. A distinct decrease of hypoxic hypoxia was registered. Symptomatology relevant to the presentations of acute mountain pathology developed to a minor ratio and virtually did not affect on the volunteers` functional condition and their working capacity. In comparison to the control group the average number of complaints decreased to 4 times less, including cerebral and common complaints which decreased by 6 times less, cardiorespiratory ones -to 2.5 times less, and digestive and excretory complaints -20 times less. These results are sure to argue for distinct antihypoxic action by Antihot(R). Heart rate is a general parameter of physiological function tension. At the post-ascent examination of the climbers who had taken Antihot(R), it remained lower than background meaning both at rest and while conducting a loading test by 5.5 and 11.4%, respectively. In aggregate with a reliable increase of breath-holding (Stange test) by 25.5% against taking Antihot(R), results argue for a favorable preparation impact on the functions of the oxygen transportation system, rapid and complete removal of oxygen debt and, maybe, as a whole, for a decrease of tension level in the body`s physiological systems, thus, facilitating adaptation and working capacity in a high altitude environment. Therefore, Antihot(R) has displayed high efficacy in increasing tolerance to unfavorable factors of environment in high altitude as well as in facilitating tolerance to physical loading and maintaining a feeling of well-being during the whole stay in the mountains.

Reviews : The Pharmacology of Actoprotectors: Practical Application for Improvement of Mental and Physical Performance

        ( Sergiy Oilynyk ),( Seik Wan Oh ) 한국응용약물학회 2012 Biomolecules & Therapeutics(구 응용약물학회지) Vol.20 No.5

Actoprotectors are preparations that enhance body stability against physical loads without increasing oxygen consumption or heat production. Or, in short, actoprotectors are synthetic adaptogens with a significant capacity to improve physical performance. This paper explores the history of actoprotectors` development, their pharmacological properties, mechanism of action, and practical application to the improvement of mental and physical performance. A brief summary of the clinico-pharmacological characteristics of the main representatives of this class (bemitil and bromantane) is provided. Some other synthesized compounds, and even natural ones such as ginseng, also are regarded as potential actoprotectors, and these are treated herein as well. Actoprotectors, owing to their wide-ranging pharmacological activities, high efficiency and safety, can be applied under either normal or extreme conditions.

A Study of the Influence of the Dietary Supplement Antihot(R) on the Parameters of Working Capacity in Athletes Specializing in Kyokushin Karate

Sergiy Oliynyk 체육과학연구원 2009 International Journal of Applied Sports Sciences Vol.21 No.2

Abstract. The author has conducted a study of the influence of the dietary supplement (DS) Antihot(R) on the parameters of working capacity in athletes specializing in Kyokushin karate. Twenty athletes of both genders, who were qualified as Candidates for Master of Sports and upward (rating of Candidate for Master of Sports provides practicing this sports event for at least five years and winning prize places at Ukraine`s championships), participated in the experiment by 10 persons in the control and experimental groups, respectively. The athletes from the experimental group were taking DS Antihot(R) under the following regimen: 3 days-oral intake, 3 days-interval, in the whole-4 cycles of DS Antihot(R) administration. At that, the athletes were taking the parapharmaceutical in doses of one capsule 3 times a day after meals (it amounts to 0.6 g of bemithylum as an active substance of DS Antihot(R) per day), and during the following cycles-one capsule 2 times a day after meals (0.4 g of bemithylum per day). The athletes from the control group were taking a placebo under the same regimen, respectively. To evaluate the level of physical and technical preparedness of the tested athletes, the following pedagogical tests were applied: a 60-meter run-for assessment of speed qualities; a 3000-meter run-for evaluation of endurance; pulls-up-for evaluation of strength abilities; calculation of technically correct kicks made against the special-purpose apparatus "Makiwara" (jodan mawashi geri-circular kick against the upper section) per one minute (Makiwara test)-for evaluation of technical preparedness. The estimation of DS Antihot(R) tolerance was made employing a subjective appraisal of the athletes` health status, electrocardiography monitoring, complete and biochemical blood counts and total urine tests. It was determined that DS Antihot(R) administration during the preparatory period according to the described scheme promoted the boost of general endurance in athletes specializing in Kyokushin karate, but did not exhibit an effect upon speed qualities, strength parameters (strength endurance) and the indices of technical qualification. In the mean time, the investigated parapharmaceutical is well tolerated by the athletes, which can be suggested due to the absence of health status complaints, lack of pathological electrocardiograph changes, findings of complete and biochemical blood counts and total urine tests in the athletes from the experimental group. The obtained data allow considering the administration of this parapharmaceutical to be expedient in the practical training of top-class athletes specializing in combat contact sports.

      • A Population-Based Study with a Spatial Event Approach of Hepatobiliary Cancers in Ukraine

        ( Sergiy Kharchenko ),( Igor Duzhiy ),( Artem Nechausov ),( Vyacheslav Duzhiy ),( Igor Shumkov ),( Oleksandr Kvasivka ) 대한간학회 2017 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2017 No.1

Aims: To analyze the primary incidence of the malignant tumors of the liver, the gallbladder and the bile ducts in Ukraine; To design an aggregated cancer case and cluster mapping on the territory of Ukraine Methods: The study included patients from 2011 to 2016. A raw dataset extracted from the National Cancer Registry of Ukraine. It contained the official annual reports of first time diagnosed patients with C22 (liver, intrahepatic bile ducts cancer) and C23-24 (gallbladder and extrahepatic bile ducts) by regions of Ukraine. For some regions (Donetsk, Lugansk and Crimea) we considered the annual average numbers for the last three years (2011-2013) to substitute missed data. The study involved the ArcGIS software to estimate/visualize the average numbers, Global Moran’s index, hotspot and cluster significant territory identification. The threshold distances were for the following zones: 227 km (2 grades), 555 km (5 grades) and 1110 km (10 grades) within Ukraine. Results: We visualized and designed the diseases mapping for patient population with the studied cancers in Ukraine (the average sum, hotspot and cluster maps attached). The spatial analysis presented randomness of the cluster law (p>0.1). Only patients with C22 had a clear cluster trend (p<0.005, Moran’s index=0.066). Moreover, the hotspot method detected the ‘’hot’’ territorial foci (CI 90% and 95%). Conclusions: The spatial analysis illustrates the cancer incidence is not equally distributed on all the regions. This evidence underlines needs in hepatobiliary cancer prevention policy changes. The geoinformational approach may help to develop a network of regional or local Hepato-centers within the exposed territories (regions) in Ukraine.

        Actoprotective effect of ginseng

Sergiy Oliynyk,Seikwan Oh 고려인삼학회 2013 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.37 No.2

Actoprotectors are preparations that increase the mental performance and enhance body stability against physical loads without increasing oxygen consumption. Actoprotectors are regarded as a subclass of adaptogens that hold a significant capacity to increase physical performance. The focus of this article is studying adaptogen herbs of genus Panax (P. ginseng in particular) and their capabilities as actoprotectors. Some animal experiments and human studies about actoprotective properties of genus Panax attest that P. ginseng (administered as an extract) significantly increased the physical and intellectual work capacities, and the data provided suggests that ginseng is a natural source of actoprotectors. Preparations of ginseng can be regarded as potential actoprotectors which give way to further research of its influence on physical and mental work capacity, endurance and restoration after exhaustive physical loads while compared with reference actoprotectors.

      • Fiber optic long period grating sensors with a nanoassembled mesoporous film of SiO2 nanoparticles.

        Korposh, Sergiy,James, Stephen W,Lee, Seung-Woo,Topliss, Stephen,Cheung, Sammy C,Batty, William J,Tatam, Ralph P Optical Society of America 2010 Optics express Vol.18 No.12

A novel approach to chemical application of long period grating (LPG) optical fibers was demonstrated, which were modified with a film nanoassembled by the alternate deposition of SiO(2) nanoparticles (SiO(2) NPs) and poly(diallyldimethyl ammonium chloride) (PDDA). Nanopores of the sensor film could be used for sensitive adsorption of chemical species in water, which induced the changes in the refractive index (RI) of the light propagating in the cladding mode of the optical fiber, with a concomitant effect on the transmission spectrum in the LPG region. The prepared fiber sensor was highly sensitive to the change in the RI of the surrounding medium and the response time was very fast within 10 s. In addition, chemical infusion into the film was tested using a porphyrin compound, tetrakis-(4-sulfophenyl)porphine (TSPP), which could be saturated within a few min. The lowest detectable concentration of the TSPP analyte was 10 microM. The TSPP infusion led to the development of well-pronounced dual resonance bands, indicating a large increase in the optical thickness of the film. The RI of the film was dramatically increased from 1.200 to ca. 1.540.

Proton-conductive nanochannel membrane for fuel-cell applications.

        Oleksandrov, Sergiy,Lee, Jeong-Woo,Jang, Joo-Hee,Haam, Seungjoo,Chung, Chan-Hwa American Scientific Publishers 2009 Journal of nanoscience and nanotechnology Vol.9 No.2

Novel design of proton conductive membrane for direct methanol fuel cells is based on proton conductivity of nanochannels, which is acquired due to the electric double layer overlap. Proton conductivity and methanol permeability of an array of nanochannels were studied. Anodic aluminum oxide with pore diameter of 20 nm was used as nanochannel matrix. Channel surfaces of an AAO template were functionalized with sulfonic groups to increase proton conductivity of nanochannels. This was done in two steps; at first -SH groups were attached to walls of nanochannels using (3-Mercaptopropyl)-trimethyloxysilane and then they were converted to -SO3H groups using hydrogen peroxide. Treatment steps were analyzed by Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. Proton conductivity and methanol permeability were measured. The data show methanol permeability of membrane to be an order of magnitude lower, than that measured of Nafion. Ion conductivity of functionalized AAO membrane was measured by an impedance analyzer at frequencies ranging from 1 Hz to 100 kHz and voltage 50 mV to be 0.15 Scm(-1). Measured ion conductivity of Nafion membrane was 0.05 Scm(-1). Obtained data show better results in comparison with commonly used commercial available proton conductive membrane Nafion, thus making nanochannel membrane very promising for use in fuel cell applications.

ON THE ORIGIN OF THE HII REGIONS ASSOCIATED WITH MASSIVE AND COMPACT SUPERSTAR CLUSTERS

Silich, Sergiy,Tenorio-Tagle, Guillermo,Munoz-Tunon, Casiana The Korean Astronomical Society 2007 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.40 No.4

This contribution to the IV Korea-Mexico meeting deals with the hydrodynamics of the matter reinserted within super star clusters (SSCs) by both stellar winds and supernova explosions, results recently printed in The Astrophysical Journal (Silich et al. 2007). The motivation of such a project arose from the persistent presence of the small mass and compact HII regions that sit right on top of many massive and compact SSCs, from which one expects a large mechanical energy power. The data used for our calculations appear only recently (see Smith et al. 2006) for the massive and compact SSC M82-A1. We presented in our paper the calculated flow, derived through analytical and semi-analytical methods, which led to almost identical results. We have found out that the only way of accommodating a compact HII region (4.5 pc in radius, in the case of M82-A1) on top of a 6.3 Myr old and massive (> $10^6M_{\bigodot}$) SSC with a half light radius of 3 pc, requires of two assumptions: a very low heating efficiency (< 10%) within the cluster, what leads to a bimodal solution (see Tenorio-Tagle et al. 2007) and a high pressure in the surrounding medium.
