The phase stability, mechanical and in vitro bioactivity properties of hydroxyapatite/alumina composite with and withoutyttria were investigated. Hydroxyapatite without additives decomposed at 1300 oC to beta- and alpha-tricalcium phosphateand calcium oxide phases. Although alumina contributed to the mechanical properties of hydroxyapatite, it not only decreasedthe decomposition temperature of hydroxyapatite from 1200 oC to 900 oC and it's in vitro bioactivity property but alsoincreased the decomposition ratio of hydroxyapatite. An improvement in the properties of hydroxyapatite/alumina compositewas provided by yttria via inhibiting the solid-state reactions between hydroxyapatite and alumina via the formation of yttriumaluminum oxide and calcium yttrium trialuminum oxide phases. The maximum fracture toughness of 2.178 ± 0.251 MPam1/2,microhardness of 4.947 ± 0.191 GPa, a compressive strength of 227.75 ± 27.87 MPa, and a three-point bending strength of90.15 ± 6.93 MPa were achieved for hydroxyapatite/alumina composite containing 1.5 wt% yttria at the sintering temperatureof 1200 oC. The relative density of 92.94 ± 0.11% was also attained. This ternary composite can potentially be used in thehuman body for load-bearing applications because of its sufficient mechanical and in vitro bioactivity properties with adecomposition ratio of 9.4%.
Korean food has countless health benefits and has been used for centuries to keep the body in balance. Food and medicine are usually considered as one and the same thing. The idea that health starts with food means that medical treatment should be tried if any effect is not seen after trying to treat all diseases first with food. In order to help balance the body energies, there are five elements in these foods, namely fire, wood, water, metal, and earth. The dishes of the Korean people are synonymous with being healthy and delicious. Over the years, they have evolved from the culture, country's geography, and traditions of the people of the Korean peninsula under various effects. To keep the body warm and healthy, the Koreans have developed fermented foods that improve metabolism. Korean gastronomy has been established on healthy food. The Koreans do not eat food to become full. Foods are prepared and consumed to be healthy, healthy food is consumed in order to prevent diseases, and individuals who get sick aim to heal with foods and refer to using medications in case these methods are insufficient.
Study Design: Retrospective study. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the incidence of intraspinal pathologies (ISPs) in individuals with Scheuermann's kyphosis (SK) and to validate whether the routine use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is necessary for preoperative evaluation. Overview of Literature: There are several studies on the necessity of routine MRI screening and prevalence of ISPs related to different types of scoliosis have been conducted. However, despite the well-established association between ISPs and a higher risk for neurological complications there is no any study on the scientific literature concerning the prevalence of ISPs in patients with SK has been conducted. Methods: The database of the institution was retrospectively reviewed to identify all patients diagnosed with SK who underwent surgery between 2012 and 2015. Patients were excluded from the study if their hospital database records did not include spinal images, which are routinely collected before surgery. The presence or absence of ISPs, as indicated on magnetic resonance images, was evaluated by a radiologist. Results: Of the 138 potential participants, 120 were included in the study. Of these, seven patients (5.8%) had ISPs, and all the cases involved syringomyelia. None of the seven patients with ISPs required additional neurosurgical procedures before corrective surgery. No complications were reported during the perioperative period, and none of the patients developed postoperative neurological deficits. Conclusions: According to this study, the incidence rate of ISPs in patients with SK was 5.8%, and we recommend that all patients with SK should be evaluated using MRI of the spine before corrective surgery.
Aims: The Korean Association of HBP Surgery firstly launched the protocol of Korean Surgical Quality Improvement Program (KSQIP) for cholecystectomy collaborating with NECA as a multicenter prospective study. I'd like to introduce the study protocol, web based database system and outcome. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is the standard surgical treatment of benign gallbladder disease. However, the incidence of postoperative complication varies, and the risk factor was not well thoroughly investigated. The aim of this study is to develop and evaluate the surgical risk calculator for postoperative outcomes after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. A total of 3,002 patients were registered, and 2,514 patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy for benign gallbladder disease from 18 academic institutes in Korea were included in this prospective, multicenter cohort study. Preoperative or intraoperative variables were evaluated as risk factors for various postoperative outcomes including overall complications, and tendency to increase use of medical facilities including prolonged duration of hospital stay. After risk factor analysis, risk calculator after cholecystectomy was developed using multiple logistic regression analysis. Using standard preoperative variables from this multi-institutional prospective database, we tried to construct a risk calculator for predicting adverse perioperative outcomes after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Such information may be useful for risk stratification before laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Constipation is a side effect of antipsychotic drugs that have high affinity for muscarinic cholinergic receptors. In addition, ileus is an important side effect of antipsychotic treatment, with potentially morbid and mortal consequences if early detection fails. In this report, a colonic ileus case is described in a patient with schizophrenia under the treatment of paliperidone palmitate. Consequently, complete physical examination and close screening of side effects are recommended when antipsychotics are prescribed.

Cerebellum is known to play an important role in coordination and motor functions. In some resent studies it is also considered to be involved in modulation of mood, cognition and psychiatric disorders. Dandy Walker Malformation is a congenital malformation that is characterized by hypoplasia or aplasia of the cerebellar vermis, cystic dilatation of the fourth ventricle and enlargement of the posterior fossa. When the volume of posterior fossa is normal, the malformation is called Dandy Walker Variant. Case is a 32 year old male with a 12 year history of Bipolar I Disorder presented with manic and depresive symptoms, including dysphoric and depressive affect, anhedonia, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, thoughts of fear about future, overtalkativeness and graphomania, increased energy, irregular sleep, loss of appetite, increased immersion in projects, irritability, agressive behavior, impulsivity. Cranial Magnetic Resonance Imaging was compatible to the morphological features of Dandy Walker Variant.
In this study, multi-story structures are actively controlled using metaheuristic algorithms. The soil conditions such as dense, normal and soft soil are considered under near-fault ground motions consisting of two types of impulsive motions called directivity effect (fault normal component) and the flint step (fault parallel component). In the active tendon-controlled structure, Proportional–Integral–Derivative (PID) type controller optimized by the proposed algorithms was used to achieve a control signal and to produce a corresponding control force. As the novelty of the study, the parameters of PID controller were determined by different metaheuristic algorithms to find the best one for seismic structures. These algorithms are flower pollination algorithm (FPA), teaching learning based optimization (TLBO) and Jaya Algorithm (JA). Furthermore, since the influence of time delay on the structural responses is an important issue for active control systems, it should be considered in the optimization process and time domain analyses. The proposed method was applied for a 15-story structural model and the feasible results were found by limiting the maximum control force for the near-fault records defined in FEMA P-695. Finally, it was determined that the active control using metaheuristic algorithms optimally reduced the structural responses and can be applied for the buildings with the soil-structure interaction (SSI).
Knowledge management is rapidly becoming a key organizational capability for creating competitive advantage in the construction industry. The emergence of knowledge management as a key organizational capability for creating competitive advantage poses enormous challenges to executives of construction firms. This paper proposes a model for benchmarking the knowledge management practices of construction firms that can guide and assist construction business executives to meet these challenges. The proposed model incorporates benchmarking and knowledge management concepts with Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) and Comparative Performance Analysis (CPA) maps. The IPA and CPA maps are visual management tools that have been commonly used for continuous improvements in processes and the performance of firms. Yet they have not been used in the construction management literature or for evaluating the knowledge management practices. The proposed model can be used by construction firms as an internal performance measurement tool to evaluate their knowledge management practices. It can provide powerful diagnostic information to construction business executives of construction firms in order to evaluate their firm's knowledge management practices, identify their firm's comparative advantages and disadvantages with regard to each knowledge management practice, and set priorities for managerial actions related to knowledge management practices that need improvement. A real-world case study was conducted by administering a survey to 105 construction firms operating in Turkey and is presented to illustrate the implementation and utility of the proposed model.
A new xanthine (X) biosensors based on a hybrid nanocomposite containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), Pt nanoparticles (PtNP) and gold nanoparticle (AuNP) was presented. X biosensor was fabricated by dropping AuNP/PtNP/MWCNT onto xanthine oxidase (XO) modified glassy carbon paste electrode (GCPE). Resulted XO/AuNP/PtNP/MWCNT/GCPE biosensor showed two linearity between 2.0 and 50 μM and 0.25 and 6.0 mM for X. RSD value was calculated as 2.46 (n = 5). Finally, the biosensor was applied to the X detection in synthetic serum samples and good recovery value was obtained.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship of seminal parameters with the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), which are inflammatory markers, in men with an abnormal semen analysis and men with normozoospermia.Materials and Methods: Fifty-seven men with abnormal semen analyses and 59 men with normozoospermia were included in this cross-sectional study. A complete blood count was recorded, and the NLR and PLR were calculated from the hematologic parameters.Results: The NLR was 1.84±0.78 in the normozoospermic group and 1.80±0.75 in the abnormal semen analysis group. The PLR was 95.32±35.47 in the normozoospermic group and 93.57±28.09 in the abnormal semen analysis group. No significant differences were found between the normozoospermic and the abnormal semen analysis group in the NLR (p=0.828) or the PLR (p=0.768). In addition, no seminal parameters were correlated with the NLR or the PLR (p>0.05).Conclusions: We do not recommend using the NLR or the PLR as markers to screen for abnormal semen parameters or male infertility.
